FFS. Anyone else see the foul throw in the lead up to that goal. Frustrates the ***t out of me that officials no longer seem to bother penalising those offenses. May as well get rid of the rule altogether. Half his foot on the pitch? Exactly

Disappointing result but we worked hard and matched them in the second half.
Overall Barnsley deserved the win but lots of positives for us and we will get better.

Hard fought
Chops had a bit more quality, especially in attack
We had several late corners, but it always looked unlikely
We had a purple patch early in the 2nd half when it flowed, and we picked up all the 2nd balls
The subs didn’t really impact
Nowt to complain about tho - we pushed good quality opposition away from home, but aren’t quite there yet

Just switched over to the England game. Nice of them to delay the kick off until the Rovers game was over.

Just can't improve enough to get results at the better 3rd tier clubs.
This has to be our ambition.
I think we'll improve and hopefully enough.
I have a good feeling about Forde.

i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9537865.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200/0_JS344504241.jpg Bristol Rovers players celebrate Ruel Sotiriou's equaliser against BarnsleyDavis Keillor-Dunn marked his Barnsley debut with a goal to help his new side to a 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers. Visiting goalkeeper Josh Griffiths was forced into an early save to keep out Barry Cotter’s well-struck 20-yard effort. Adam Phillips then went close for the hosts, heading narrowly wide after meeting a corner from Keillor-Dunn. Keillor-Dunn struck the opener in the 11th minute with a fine finish after latching onto a neat flick from Luca Connell. Marc Roberts went close to putting Barnsley further ahead with a header which was tipped over by Griffiths, but Ruel Sotiriou equalised for Rovers in the 37th minute after capitalising on a defensive error. Barnsley regained the lead after 65 minutes when Phillips found the net with a close-range header from Cotter’s cross. Keillor-Dunn went in search of his second goal of the afternoon, receiving a flick-on from Sam Cosgrove before a last-ditch tackle cut his run short. Connell saw a 20-yard free-kick deflected wide in the closing stages.

Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Barnsley: as the Gas lost 2-1 away at Barnsley in League One..By Daniel Hargraves
i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9537937.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JS344506873.jpg Josh Griffiths was called into action a number of times for Bristol Rovers in their defeat to BarnsleyJosh Griffiths - 8 Without the goalkeeper it could have been more. A number of big saves in both halves from the Bristol Rovers loanee kept his side in the game but couldn't do anything about either goal. Distribution and catching spot on too. Taylor Moore - 7 Some great bits of individual defending, beating men in red to the ball or getting a crucial touch to steer it away. Admittedly, Barnsley could have scored more than their two, especially in the first half. James Wilson - 7 Like Moore, some excellent individual moments and will feel disappointed to leave on the losing side following his contribution. Clinton Mola - 8 The centre-back was outstanding, even in defeat. So impressive on the ball when bringing it out of Rovers' own box and seemed to get a touch on everything that came his way. You would have to say, like Griffiths, without Mola it could have been more. Luke Thomas (off for Scott Sinclair 78') - 5 Having been so impressive last weekend, the wing-back was uncharacteristically quiet and didn't seem to get into the game. A couple of good interceptions as you would expect but capable of so much more, even against one of the toughest opponents the Gas will face in the league this season. Of course, backing him to get back to his usual self next weekend. Jake Garrett - 6 Eye-catching on the ball but didn't quite have the control he had last weekend, admittedly in a tougher game with it away from home against a stronger opponent. Good spells at both ends and tried to get involved wherever he could. Grant Ward (off for Kofi Shaw 78') - 6 Strong on the ball as always and a great carrier, the midfielder seemed to rotate position with his fellow middle men. Got stuck in as usual. Luke McCormick (off for Shaq Forde 78') - 6 Zipped around here and there as he tried to make himself useful. No doubt a tricky game to come into but you would expect Kamil Conteh to come straight back in next weekend. Bryant Bilongo (off for Lino Sousa 67') - 6 Put his excellent feet to good use in a number of scenarios but in an attacking sense the final ball wasn't quite there. Put in a brilliant cross that should've lead to a goal. Busy day defensively against a great team at this level. Ruel Sotiriou (off for Gatlin O'Donkor 62') - 7 Great for the striker to get off the mark with both of Rovers' additions up front brought in earlier in the transfer window now off the mark. Could argue the way in which the goal came about was lucky but the 24-year-old was in the right place at the right time. Pressed well off the ball too in a difficult game. Promise Omochere - 6 The striker's hold up play really is brilliant to watch at times as he outstrengths defenders and brings down the ball with ease. However, Omochere was also guilty of a miss that you would assume will be replayed in his head on repeat tonight. SubstitutionsGatlin O'Donkor (on 62') - 6 Made himself available when he could and saw an effort deflect behind late on he probably thought might have been going in. Lino Sousa (on 67') - 7 Plenty to like about the left-back's cameo. Tried to get in behind where he could and put in a brilliant tackle in the penalty area that had to be timed perfectly. Kofi Shaw (on 78') - N/A Came on late but showed his quality where he could as a defender got booked for a foul he drew. Scott Sinclair (on 78') - N/A Wasn't far away from scoring an equaliser, hitting an effort first time that curled just over the crossbar. Shaq Forde (on 78') - N/A Tried to get himself involved where he could. Will need to build up his fitness.

Just can't improve enough to get results at the better 3rd tier clubs. This has to be our ambition. I think we'll improve and hopefully enough. I have a good feeling about Forde. We beat Bolton away last season? But I agree, we don't do it consistently enough. These away games against the top teams follow a set pattern. Struggle manfully, concede through a stupid error or switching off, and end up losing by a goal or two-goal margin. We have to be better and we have to be on the game from the start to get results in these games. Forde/Sinclair, and Sotoriou/Thomas playing off Omochere/Martin with Conteh and Lindsay/Garrett as holding mids and Hutchinson in the middle does sound quite tasty. Hunt/Senior and Sousa/Bilongo as overlapping full-backs. If Ward is injured again, we really have to look at his long-term future at the club.

Fleetwood's fans warned us his finishing and heading were raw and needed development. We have to be patient and hope to see sustained improvement over the season. However, at the same time, the price tag means that our patience has a time premium and will run out sooner than for cheaper signings. Sinclair should be introduced around the 60-minute mark, not in the 78th minute. Introducing subs this late when you are chasing the game breaks up the momentum. Kofi, I can understand - 12 minutes will extend into 20 minutes and then, perhaps in the later stages of the season, into 45 minute appearances.

Don't get this with teenagers surely they are fit enough to perform over 90 minutes?

Don't get this with teenagers surely they are fit enough to perform over 90 minutes? Yes, but they aren't ready to impact the game. Regardless of how talented players like Shaw are, the game will generally pass them by at D1. They will also burn out quite quickly and will struggle to adapt to the physical requirements. We've had a few exceptions - Bryant being the main one. But generally players of this age need to be gradually brought into the side and protected. Give him full games in the pizza and FA cup and sub appearances in the league.
