Let's be having your squads of 23 and 26.
Who is the most shocking player you are leaving out and the most shocking one that you are leaving in.
I personally would leave Rashford out. That is my shocking omission.

Jevani Brown has done nothing to convince me. Jed Ward, may not be experienced enough, but have earned their pace in the Irish side, for me. I'd take Conteh: he looks a player.

That is my shocking omission. It sounds strange, but club form is not necessarily the most important factor to take into consideration when selecting a squad. There are a lot of players who under-perform for their club and then perform well for their country - Wales seems to have a whole team of them. There is a lot of stuff going on off the pitch at Utd, which has inevitably impacted Rashford. Given his level of under performance, attitude and lack of basic professionalism, I would include Rashford as my most shocking 'in'. Jordan Henderson has been extensively involved but I've never particularly rated him and he has made very bad career decisions with the moves to Saudi and then Ajax. He would be my shocking 'out'. I also don't think Maguire should be in the team. Also worth remembering that the quality of international football has declined quite substantially, so players who aren't particularly good will fancy their chances of inclusion.

It's not just form for me. I think Rashford is overrated, he doesn't work hard, he's not mentally got it. We have an embarrassment of riches in his position. He can't even get in Utd's first 11 at the moment and they're awful. Henderson I wouldn't take but I would understand taking him from a dressing room point of view. The 26th player on the list is unlikely to get a look in anyway so you might as well as get someone who can lead might example and help out the younger lads.

Southgate is overly cautious. Plays negative football when it really counts. An unhealthy obsession with Maguire. A bit of a creep. A squad of no alarms and no surprises. However the squad will be fitter, happier. Chests pumped out as we hear the National Anthem played for the first time. England will look good in the early stages. Fans will be optimistic. They dream. Nice dream. A settled 3-5-2. Hopefully England will finally have everything in it's right place. Bellingham will be the stand out performer. The final piece of the jigsaw falling into place. I might be wrong, but I think England will lose in the first big game they face. Knives out. Southgate will get slaughtered as we look to burn the witch. Ultimately supporters will feel let down. Left high and dry. People get too emotional. Too emotionally invested. Tears before bed-time. There, there. Advice: Don't get sentimental, it always ends up drivel.

He's far from perfect but nobody has stood out and he does take responsibility on the pitch. I think that's why Southgate likes him. I'm not sure 3-5-2 will suit our players that play wide forward? Positive is it would be a way to get both Walker and Trent in. Lb we look weak imo. I hope Luke Shaw is back. Then how does he fit Bellingham and Foden in the same team? Bellingham as number 8 and Foden as number 10 in a 4-3-3? I guess in your 3-5-2 you could maybe play Foden off Kane up front. Foden is nowhere near as effective in a 4-3-3 play wide of Kane. I think playing Bellingham as a number 8 effects him less than it does playing Foden out wide. I'm hoping Mainoo gets some game time but worried Southgate will prefer Gallagher.

"optimistic" and "there there". "Don't get sentimental, it always ends up drivel" (Killer line from Let Down). But good effort Sir. B+. GGMI. See me after school.

I think a double detention is in order. I don't think a suspension is appropriate. Yet.

I read Uncle Eppers's rubbish about England and Southgate and entirely missed the Radiohead connections, so I am extremely disappointed with myself. In my defence, I stopped listening to the band after Pablo Honey and The Bends, both of which I enjoyed, although there were a lot of B-sides then very worth listening to, as I recall.

Somewhere between The Bends and OK Computer, Radiohead got big, and I stopped listening to angsty boys whining over distorted guitars. I will put it on my listening list.

If you found something interesting in Pablo Honey, then I think you will find the two aforementioned albums may quite possibly be life changing! OK Computer is regularly ranked in the "Top 10" albums of all time by music journos. Often top 3 alongside Dark Side and Sgt. Pepper. Hey, as GGMI said, it is all very subjective. Each to their own. What do music journos know? What do I know? Silence at the back. No back chat.

There's a music thread which I think covers Radiohead (somewhere). Suffice to say, I think we can agree that the best piece of contemporary music based on Franz Kafka's novelette "The Metamorphosis", is "Let Down" by Radiohead.

Saudi was a bad move for Henderson, but Ajax was probably necessary to avoid a massive tax bill for returning too early. Deals like that used to be taxfree for a certain number of years, two I think.

I would leave Pickford at home, he's just an old-fashioned hoof ball merchant imo. Good enough for Everton but no higher than that. Rashford is classes above Ten Hag's hop, jump and fall flat on your face merchants. Seeing how well Sancho is playing again on his return to Dortmund, I think Rashford should get out of there double quick and progress his career at one of Europe's elite clubs that know how to get the best out of him. Maguire should be nowhere near an England team. There's always an accident waiting to happen there.
