Former Conservative donor Sir John Hall switches support to Reform UK..by Luke Walton, Political correspondent, BBC North East and Cumbria.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/27/4fbd47ad-35c6-441f-86fb-abf927896a76.jpgFormer Conservative donor Sir John Hall has confirmed that he is switching support to Reform UK. The businessman and former owner of Newcastle United Football Club said concerns about the level of immigration had prompted his switch of allegiance, adding he was moving away from the Conservatives with a "heavy heart". Asked if he would be donating to Reform UK, Sir John confirmed that he would, but refused to say how much he would be giving the party. Sir John was attending a Reform UK rally near Sunderland - where he was introduced to around 1,000 party supporters by Nigel Farage.

Ed Davey outlines plan for legalising cannabis in UK..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/27/6672c0ac-e1a0-42ab-949d-9df11f95d067.jpgLiberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey is facing questions from BBC Radio 5 Live listeners - one of whom points out the party is in favour of legalising cannabis but wants to ban cigarettes. Davey says there is an "overwhelming" health case for banishing cigarettes, and he is opposed to high-strength strains of cannabis being available legally. The Lib Dems want a regulated legal cannabis market with "much less potent" products available, adding he also doesn't oppose people having nicotine in vapes. Asked whether he has ever smoked cannabis, he admits to "a few occasions" at university - underlining it was "very seldom". A further question is put to Davey about legalising cannabis and mushrooms to generate more tax revenue. "All we're trying to do is have evidence-based health policies," he adds, saying politicians need to listen to those who have done the research. He says the Lib Dem approach will free up police resources to go after the drug barons.

I watched it over here in the States. I found it profoundly dispiriting. Sunak thought by shouting Starmer down, like a bully in a playground he could win a debate. He couldn't and didn't. But he did expose Starmer as being a bit slow in response and perhaps a bit to nice. But hey, after the bull**it bravado of the last 14 years, particularly the last 8, perhaps that's what we need. In reality Sunak and Farage are little runts, whose suits and jackets don't fit, who shout loud and you just want to get in their faces and challenge them. Which is why people like me should steer a wide berth from party politics. The best question of the night was from the elderly gentleman who asked "are you two the best we can do" Excellent question It's quite ironic that you prefer a party called 'Democrat' in the US. We all witnessed what you thought of democracy after Remain lost the Brexit referendum. Starmer, running after Islam. Off goes his Poppy! Perhaps you could explain your understanding of democracy? Then reflect on that within the context of a Parliamentary democracy.

Immigration....again That's because it's no good sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting, "la, de dah, de dah" and hoping the issue will go away. Whether you like it or not it is a primary issue in many elections across Europe. It affects the Health Systems, Housing, Education and many other areas of life for people. One problem you actually highlight without realizing it is the use of the word "again". Yes, it will be mentioned "again" because the politicians are ignoring the issue. It won't go away and it is an issue of real concern for many people.

Just the lines in bold. Wow Now you are responding to me Epping despite your protestations that you had blocked me. Pity then that in doing so you couldn't find it in yourself to address any of the points raised.

So I ask again, why are the current government issuing over 1.2 million immigrant visas annually? Why?

After all, I doubt any Government Minister is signing these Visas off. Once again though, you are ignoring the real issue of illegal migrants! Just what are Labour going to do about them? It's no good Starmer saying, "they will be processed"!.

Because health care, tech industry, education requested visas. I repeat these are the replacement for free movement from the EU. On steroids. When faced with economic realities post Brexit the government provided this gateway for immigration. It's just another example of a Brexit lie being exposed. So to Reform. Any party actually. You could stop this now. Just commit to not issuing any new visas. Why don't they?
