Rishi Sunak announces a 4th July general election in a statement outside Downing Street After discussing the Covid pandemic, the furlough scheme, and the war in Ukraine, he says the question is "who do you trust?" Sunak says he's proud of what his government has achieved, including on NHS spending and education The PM revealed the date in a rain-soaked Downing Street speech, as Labour's 1997 election anthem 'Things Can Only Get Better' blared from a nearby street The Labour leader Keir Starmer says the election is the "moment the country's been waiting for" And he says with "patience and determination" there is "so much pride and potential to unlock" in the UK

Well, that was a surprise. I had imagined that Sunak was hoping that the economy would continue to get marginally better and we were looking at a Nov/Dec General Election. My conclusion is that there must be even more bad news in the pipeline!

I wonder if RS thought a December election would have had people all wrapped up in the Christmas vibe, shopping, partying and the weather..
Another thought is let's just get this done and dusted which ever way it goes, at least we could sit in a pub garden and drown our sorrows.

A long summer of channel migrant crossings, Rwanda policy not taking off (literally), NHS services not improving, inflation headlines not reflecting reality for people, unstable interest rates.

A long summer of channel migrant crossings, Rwanda policy not taking off (literally), NHS services not improving, inflation headlines not reflecting reality for people, unstable interest rates. The NHS will never improve until there is a deep reform of it's structure and funding. We all know that. The problems with the NHS are down to successive governments not having the balls to tackle the issue of "our NHS". It is a treated as a religion, so will never ever improve in it's current state. Inflation is down and still going downwards. There will be interest rate cuts next month. There should have been already but the BoE were slow to raise them, and now they are being slow to cut them. Don't forget, it's the independent BoE that sets the interest rate, not the government. Migrant crossings? Nothing will change under Labour. In fact it will probably get worse. I'm not supporting the Tories here. Just pointing out things in a non-biased way.

Food inflation is way above that headline number.

Food inflation has continued to ease, falling to 7% (CPIH). High food inflation has been a major contributor to rising overall inflation and recent decrease have played a large part in inflation slowing. However, inflation that remains above 0% indicates that prices are still continuing to rise but at a slower rate.14 Fe

Nigel Farage is not to stand for Reform. He'll help out,but will be spending time in the States helping Donald Trumps Presidential campaign.
This may prove wise in time.

Don't suppose anyone knows of him?

In the scenario your main concern is immigration , illegal and legal, then Reform may look a good alternative to our usual suspects.
The conservatives have been an abject failiure and one last desperate 'promise' about flights to Rwanda if you vote them into power,is'nt likely to cut it imo.
Labour won't even offer a number of immigrants they think an acceptable level of net Immigration. They talk of amnesty for thousands.More cheap labour, crime ,dole-ites,strain on our already broken services,Islam ,terrorist attacks Etc.
The Reform Party,on this issue alone may well attract voters.

Would Labour be stupid enough to make an 'enemy ' out of Israel?
Are Labour scared of losing the Muslim vote?
Will there be more 'men' using womens changing rooms with weird right on Labour?

I'm working in Germany this week and the increases in restaurant/food prices is quite alarming. Last night I paid 30 euro for a simple meal that cost 22 euro twelve weeks ago ! The night before, in an Irish Bar, myself and a friend had 8 chicken wings, a plate of chips, a cottage pie, one coke and one apple juice. Total cost 34 quid!

My point exactly We are talking about the overall inflation rate, not just food. If food is above the average figure quoted, then other things must be below the average figure. Why don't you mention them for balance?
