L/d now saying they’d pay carers £2 above the min wage , whats that , £13.50 ph ? Doesnt sound much to me ,can’t see that rate encouraging many to go into the care sector But anything I guess is better than nothing Which brings us nicely back to Reform and immigration policies. Last year we granted 83,000 visas to immigrants to work in the care sector. Now Farage and Reform want to stop that. What happens to the elderly and vulnerable the ? We get our own people to do the job , pay decent wages , then we won’t need to import cheap labour

It probably won't be black & white Oldie. Nobody expects a system where someone is waiting to come in but they can't until Bob & Martha retire to Spain. "Farage himself has said that his policies may well cause Labour shortages. He then claimed this will force employers to recruit and pay more for local people. Who is going to pay for that?" - Employers. Is there a problem with employers training people and paying them more money? The cheap immigrants are driving down the wages. Do you think there is enough elasticity in care providers margins for that? There is certainly not the funding in local authority budgets meet demand now let alone if we start driving up the cost base. I always find it amazing how statements like this Farage always fall at the first hurdle under challenge My boss said we’d shut down with the ending of cheap Labour ( as I told you the other day ) after brexit , surprisingly or not surprisingly we’re still going , the boss is still getting a new Bentley every year . I remember years ago when I was on a works Committee going to the yearly wage negotiations, we asked the boss for x amount pay rise , to be met by I was thinking of a pay cut / job losses as things are that bad , I didn’t get taken in but after the boss left us to discuss things the majority of the committee voted to withdrawal the request for a pay rise 🙄, we then went back in with the boss & he said he would do everything possible to stop job losses As we left he said we could all leave by the main entrance & have a look at his brand new Porsche 928 🙄🙄🙄 I’ve heard over the years all the stories about how companies haven’t a penny to rub together , no money for pay rises Go and tell your stories to Those daft enough to believe that bloody rubbish , you & my boss would make a good fit 🙄🙄

Equally I am entitled to mine and I find yours utterly ill informed, poorly argued, at best and so much more at worse. But you carry on with your one eyed views.

Rishi answers with a "yes",he would use private health if a loved one was seriously ill.
Sir Kier tells the nation he would'nt use private health for a loved one even if they were seriously ill.
I don't believe Sir Kier.

So, we now know that Labour will tax the State Pension. Starmer avoided answering the question and didn't deny it. Both stated they will not raise income tax or vat. What they both didn't say is that they will freeze threash holds, which is basically raising taxes.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/6802/production/_133362662_mediaitem133362661.jpgRishi Sunak and Keir Starmer clash over the NHS, cost of living, education and immigration in the first head-to-head TV debate of the election Security and the environment have also been the focus of audience questions, with both leaders told to lower their voices during heated moments In opening pitches, Starmer says the election on 4 July is a choice between "chaos" with the Conservatives or turning the page with Labour Sunak says he will cut taxes, protect pensions and reduce immigration and that the Conservatives have a secure plan for the future ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/4/17b0f4ff-b363-4ebe-a875-c1ec05e7bae7.jpgJulie Etchingham, who is hosting debate, says audience members are asking how Labour and the Conservatives plan to fund their plans. Starmer says the Labour Party will raise tax through ending the non-dom status, closing equity loopholes, and stopping the tax break for private schools. He adds oil and gas companies should also pay their fair share. Sunak weighs in now, saying he's announced the triple lock plus and would ensure pensioners are not subject to tax. He adds that Starmer hasn't matched that pledge. The Labour leader says the government under former Conservative leader Liz Truss made unfunded tax cuts and that Sunak is now pledging to do the same. This isn't the first time tonight Starmer has referred to Liz Truss's time as prime minister. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/4/999cbdeb-12c2-475c-ac50-e034c217f9e6.jpgIn opening statements, Starmer said this election was about a choice between "chaos" with the Conservatives or "rebuilding with Labour". Sunak said "uncertain times call for a clear plan and bold action" The first question was about relieving the cost of living. Sunak said the economy is growing, wages rising and that he plans to cut taxes. Starmer referenced financial hardship in his family growing up, and said the government had lost control of the economy The debate then turns to the NHS, with a question about fixing the "broken" system. Starmer says he would engage with striking doctors to resolve the industrial action. Sunak says it would not be right to raise taxes to resolve the strikes Then, we turned to the education system. Sunak said his party was backing schools with "record investment". Starmer said he would recruit teachers to fill gaps in the workforce Lastly, we turned to taxes. Starmer said his party would raise specific taxes, such as on private schools and would scrap the non-dom tax status. Sunak spoke of his triple-lock on pensions and said he'd ensure the state pension is not taxed ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/4/17b0f4ff-b363-4ebe-a875-c1ec05e7bae7.jpg

What really grips my s**t is that both of them are trying to find ways to take more of our money. The government already take too much. Why can't they spend more time on cutting government waste and spending our money more wisely? They both talk bollux. We know it, and they know it. Why oh why can't they be honest?

The amount of waste at both national and local level is where they should be looking. The money is there.

Sadly That is the state of our economy. We are not generating enough income for the services we have let alone those that are being demanded. I disagree. The amount of waste at both national and local level is where they should be looking. The money is there. If we look hard enough I am sure we could find waste, inefficiency and poor management practice. That's probably true of any well established organisations that have become sclerotic. But it's no longer good enough to just say it, the areas for improvement have to be clearly identified and costed with the risk analysis around any proposed radical change. But we don't get it, do we, as taxpayers. We get sound bites. Like the rather desperate "extra £2k income tax for everyone" claimed by Sunak last night. My first thought was wow, where did that come from when manifestos have yet to be published. It turns out it was a back of an envelope calculation made by political advisors at No 10. Yet here we have the PM telling the voters that this is fact. Farage will find his natural home in the Tory party
