Right so who does the mem actually belong to? Is it Dwayne Sports or another company? I said this ages back, could these new owners just be asset strippers who invested for the land. I don't know how much they put in to invest, how much the men land is actually worth etc etc, but isnt their expertise in real estate, not football? I think there's something very dodgy about them. They either don't have money or don't have enough money, either way it seems they don't want to spend anything, the way things are going forget about playoffs, we're going to be in a relegation battle come May.

I was the first one to post any comments on gaschat about the AS ownership. I have done so completely independently of anyone. I cant speak for the rest of them, but having spent sometime with another football club board member this morning in London, hes hearing all the same things from other sources within the football world. DMac at Peterborough hasnt been complimentary about our new directors together with Matt Taylors subliminal messages about the board I'd suggest there is no smoke without fire. Hussain doesnt need to put a protective layer around his son as long as his son shows a measure of competency. So far he is showing himself up to be nothing but incompetent and from what I have been told, albeit from people outside of the club, that Abdullatif wants to do everything himself, makes a cats arse of it and then picks up the phone to Wael to sort it out, which is exactly what happened with the JCH transfer and a carbon copy of meeting the release fee for Conteh. It’s very confusing. Are you saying Abdullatif is incompetent but doesn’t need a protective layer or mentor because he has Wael to go to for advice on how to sort things out. Wouldn’t the more logical step be to cut out the middleman and let Wael make all the decisions with Abdullatif listening in to see how it’s done ? I’m only kidding You’ve already got me into trouble this afternoon with your post about Abdullatif on Gaschat “ It's like he thinks its championship manager and he can knock one out to pornhub whilst the game is going through it simulation. Someone needs to get hold of him by the ears and give him a damn good shake.” I wasn’t familiar with the terminology so googled it and seconds later my wife walked into the room to the sound of grunting and moaning. “ Only the Rovers forum luv” I said.

Or find a proper chief exec he trusts to run us properly as well as installing a Director of Football. The Mem belongs to Bristol Rovers 1883 Ltd which is owned by Dwane Sports Ltd. The land at the training ground belongs to Dwane Colony Ltd but the buildings belong to Bristol Rovers FC Ltd. It is probably safe to assume that ownership of Dwane Colony Ltd is split 55/45 % the same as Dwane Sports Ltd. I don’t think the Al- Saeeds are asset strippers and neither were the Al- Qadis. It’s becoming clearer now that it’s a case of two wealthy fathers buying a football club as an adventure for their son. In the first case it went off the rails after six years and in the second case it may do so a lot sooner unless something changes. But there is still time to alter course and the first step is to acknowledge publicly that the club is in a financial mess and we will all have to pull together and accept that we may have to go backward before we go forward. There is nothing to gain by urging more spending and trying to continue with a business model which has failed. Retrenchment will be understood by Gasheads so long as we are told why it’s being done and what the rewards will be in the future. I would forget about expanding capacity at the Mem and first concentrate on a plan for the training ground. Matt Taylor will have a good insight into how Exeter City were able to produce so many high value players and we must use that knowledge. Improved training facilities will undoubtedly be needed but to jump in and ask property developers “ how much can we get for some of the land” is very short sighted. There may be a way to exploit the land in such a way that we get a first class training facility AND ongoing income rather than cashing in and seeing the money raised drain away within a short period. It will need careful consideration and good professional advice but I think it can be done.

With the current set up, we wouldnt get promoted back up again. IMO, The AS need to spend in this window to stay up. The look at getting a proper Head of Recruitment in to assist MT in identifying players to sign and negotiate with other clubs in windows. Clearly Abdullatif is out of his depth here. Then we can go about building the club from the training ground up as you say.

I respect your opinion about the dangers of going down and not being able to get back up but to secure the long term future we have to bite the bullet at some point and make a fundamental change in our philosophy. The boom and bust approach has taken us backwards over the past 24 years and continually succumbing to the temptation to “put a bit more in and we might just make it” hasn’t served us well. We’ve got to get our cost base down to a level where with, good management, we can compete and at the same time allow owner investment to go towards infrastructure which will enable us to develop players and create our own assets year after year.

The problem I have with L2 is this. Less revenue from the EFL which will have to be made up with owner contributions, smaller gates as a result, loss of ST sales, and a bad season is a trapdoor to non league. We should not be entertaining the thought of relegation whatsoever. We can build forward in L1 with the correct management structures but it needs to be sorted ASAP. If that takes everyone sitting around a boardroom table now and airing any greviences, egos must be put to one side and each person take a measure of responsibility towards building the club. Everyone criticised Wael for a jobs for the boys approach with Barton, Jennings and co. Well Abdullatif appointing his university mates to the board and creating jobs is equally dangerous especially if they are as out of their depth as he is. Their behaviour at certain away games has raised a few eyebrows with fellow directors, especially at Wycombe. They need to grow up a bit if you ask me. We arent broken completely but as you say, structure needs to be put in place and quickly or I fear where this could lead.

How many clubs are actually sustainable and don't rely on cash injections to keep them afloat? Are we a particularly bad example compared to others or is it just they way football has gone in general?

Hi Russian, I have no idea about regular profit but we got beat by a team last night who we haven't managed to beat for 8 years and they are not permitted any investment from outside sources or board members. So, we could be as good as them without blowing 3 or 4 million a year and think how good we could be if we invested that 3 or 4 million better. That has always been the sound of my broken record.

Alfie May is tied up for a year or two on bang bang monies ....I doubt we would consider breaking the bank for someone it wouldn't matter as we're not going anywhere? Only should if for next year and beyond. Agree May now non starter good player though he is. Macaulay Langstaff would fit that bill though

Currently the B***** faithful on social media are having a meltdown. Best manager should never have been sacked, best squad would have got us promoted under B*****, Taylor another Tisdale and should be sacked, manager clueless ..... Window not even closed yet and they want Taylor gone. Remember when they told us all that we needed to get behind B***** the manager when we got relegated. Matt Taylor has a real uphill struggle to face with this lot. A very sad state of affairs. A sad state of affairs Chesh but highly predictable. Wael didn’t want to lose control but with finances in a mess he was forced to put the club on the market. Serious buyers with the resources to transform Rovers and build a new stadium weren’t interested because of the state of the club and Wael’s insistence on retaining a substantial stake. So after being advertised for over a year the only people willing to take a chance and comply with Wael’s wishes were the Al- Saeeds. Six months after the deal was completed we are where we are. But at least on Gaschat Irene’s Toy Boy is putting forward his idea of a solution “ Abdullatif Al Saeed. He's losing control, if he ever had any to begin with and if his old man isnt willing to pull him up on it and give him some counsel then a few more fans might make him pay attention “ Meanwhile, Gasheads who have the capacity to think may wish to check out the difference between Administration and Liquidation. ITB is to Wael as was Baself to Poundland Pep. Absolutely fixated and unable to see or admit to seeing his flaws

How many clubs are actually sustainable and don't rely on cash injections to keep them afloat? Are we a particularly bad example compared to others or is it just they way football has gone in general? Fans on the forums don't like to discuss the nitty gritty of the accounts. On the other hand when someone says the Al-Saeeds are watching every penny and everything has to get their approval they become angry. Personally, as a stakeholder in any business, I am happier when I know the management is keeping a close watch on expenditure and using their resources wisely. But at Rovers we have become accustomed to wanting the owners to spend as much money as possible because we think that's the only way to bring success. It isn't. Not all clubs publish a profit and loss account and the most recent one we have is for the year to 30.06.22. During that season we were in League 2 and here are the comparative figures for the top three clubs : 1. Forest Green Rovers. Total Spending 6.5 million Profit 32K 2. Exeter City. Total Spending 6.7 million. Loss 270K but profit of 1.23 million after player sales. 3. Bristol Rovers Total Spending 10.7 million Loss 3.9 million Why did we have to spend 10.7 million to come third ? Because we are inefficient. At the same time, the 21/22 season, we can compare ourselves to three clubs which came 16th,17th and 18th in League 1. Burton Albion. Total Spending 7.2 million. Loss 579 K Lincoln City Total Spending 9.4 million. Loss 2 million Shrewsbury Town Total Spending 6.7 million. Loss 180 K These figures show that you don't need to spend 10.7 million or more (because our spending will have increased in 22/23) to survive in League 1 it can be done with a much lower budget. The interesting comparison is with Lincoln City because their total costs are closer to Rovers figures but their loss is only half of ours. And they have some justification for gambling on higher expenditure in order to try and gain promotion to the Championship because their infrastructure is already in place. Their training ground was paid for from an FA cup windfall and their stadium improvements made without resorting to bank finance. We need to get our house in order before we attempt to move forward

Macaulay Langstaff would fit that bill though Langstaff is in year 2 of a 3 year deal and has never played above L2. Notts County have valued him at £1M. The one who's really caught the eye this year is Jake Young who was on loan at Swindon from Bradford. 16 goals and 21 goal contributions at 22 years of age would be a much better value prospect imo. However what Rovers need to do is get a HOR or DOF to spot these talents at a much earlier time. Langstaff was a £50k signing from York city in 2022. We should be looking at those types of players and fees and looking to sell on as well as taking advantage of their contributions. If we could pull off the Conteh signing then at least it would show MT eye for a player with huge potential. Josh Stokes who City have just signed was picked up by Jamie Hedges, who used to work for Rovers as an analyst. Another good talent spotter the club let go. We shoot ourselves in the foot by signing crock signings like Rossiter, Wilson and Friend who can barely manage 20 games a season and who's record of poor appearances speak for themselves.

I was explaining Admin v Liquidation to a City fan the other day. He didn't realise that his club were the last EFL club to be liquidated and allowed to pre pack and stay in the EFL. Interesting times and I wasn't shocked listening Matt Taylors interview whilst being blown down the M5 last night. He was very diplomatic but I think many of us know what he meant. He has been hung out to dry and maybe he did jump into the job a little too quickly, he didn't need to. Yes I think you are absolutely right and he probably should have seen the writing on the wall when he was given vague promises instead of detailed plans. The debate on Gaschat has now advanced to the point where ITB is telling us his company never had a problem getting paid by Rovers when Tom was in charge of settling accounts and Wael is very embarrassed that invoices are not being paid on time. As I predicted a few days ago, the next development will be for some fans to say they think things were much better in Wael’s time and that the Al- Saeeds have spoiled everything. In a pre-pack situation, with 12 million of debt secured by real estate, where would we train and play our home games ? Sounds similar to things we were hearing a couple of years back. There was talk of late payments for work at The Mem and The Quarters.

I’m not here to defend thr Al Saaeds - far from it as I am not close enough to them or what they do. Time will be the judge of how they do as it has been for the Al Qadis. You may well prove to be right in time. You’d come across much more credibly if you stopped defending Wael at every opportunity. My opinion from a distance is that Wael has been a benevolent but poor custodian for all the reasons that others on here especially Swiss and SDG provide. It’s not exactly as if selling to the Al Saeeds is his only bad decision is it? Benny, Tisdale, Barton - there’s a long list before we even start on the club finances. Your comments re personal attack are laughable btw. This is your modus operandii.

Agree on better scouting and signing players from lower levels earlier. Langstaff was a counter really to the idea that we should be throwing loads at aging players who are likely on their way down instead of a player who is on the up/perhaps reached their nadir. I’d argue that Langstaff has scored goals at EFL so is less of a gamble than someone scoring at National League North or South for example. Great if there are better out there (definitely will be) and we can get them but the lower you look the more of a gamble it is. Annoyingly we used to be good at this but have thrown it all away
