Cricket World Cup 2023: Rassie van der Dussen & Quinton de Kock star as South Africa thrash New Zealand..By Sam Drury, BBC Sport.South Africa are on the brink of clinching a World Cup semi-final berth after a 190-run thrashing of New Zealand in Pune. Rassie van der Dussen made a superb 133 and Quinton de Kock hit his fourth century of the tournament in a 200-run stand as the Proteas posted 357-4. New Zealand then slumped to 167 all out, with Keshav Maharaj taking 4-46. Victory returns South Africa to the top of the table while New Zealand drop to fourth after a third straight defeat. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/1/3aafed98-ca9d-4aa7-b110-57680e2027e7.jpgSouth Africa wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock: "I'm feeling really good lately. It's nice that everything is coming together at an important time for us. "They bowled really well up front. I felt quite scratchy, I couldn't find my rhythm. I just want to keep batting, bat for longer. My career is coming down to a finish, I'm trying to bat as much as I can." South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen: "We had to work hard, when Quinny got to 50 he said it was a hard-working 50. He played brilliantly, he guided me through my options, we batted together quite nicely. "As it got later in the innings, it was going to get better, the ball was going to get softer, luckily for us it worked out perfectly." New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "If we'd had those partnerships and got through those first 10 overs we'd have had a chance, with those small boundaries and a good surface. I think 330 or 340 would have been chaseable. "We're faced with a bit of adversity when it comes to injuries, we'll wait and see how they come out. "It's important we reflect on this one quickly and go into the next game with a positive mind, you don't become a bad team overnight."

Sri Lanka - 55 all out (19.4 overs) Matthews 12, Rajitha 14, Theekshana 12 not out, Shami 5-18ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/12D03/production/_131595077_gettyimages-1759662459.jpgIndia post 357-8, a very daunting task for Sri Lanks The lowest total ever in World Cup history by a side is Canada scoring 36 against Sri Lanka in 2003. SL 37-8 - Sri Lanka have climbed over the lowest ever ODI team score.. Sri Lanka's lowest ever world cup score is 43, that's their next target.. It is now definitely not Sri Lanka's lowest ODI score, but their lowest in a World Cup match is 86. Quite the ask from here. Sri Lanka 55 all out, India win by 302 runs - India - outstanding. Sri Lanka - woeful.

Cricket World Cup 2023: Afghanistan beat the Netherlands to boost semi-final hopes..By Tom Mallows, BBC Sport.Afghanistan continued their late surge for a place in the World Cup semi-finals with a comfortable seven-wicket win over the Netherlands in Lucknow. The victory moves Afghanistan level with Australia and New Zealand on eight points, with only net run-rate now keeping them out of the top four. Hashmatullah Shahidi hit an unbeaten 56 as Afghanistan passed their target of 180 with 18.3 overs to spare. Netherlands were earlier dismissed for 179 inside 47 overs. The win tees up a potentially pivotal encounter against Australia in Mumbai on Tuesday, though the five-time winners have a game in hand against England on Saturday. Netherlands captain Scott Edwards: "The run-outs were hard to come back from, we set ourselves up for a good total. They have quality spinners through the middle and we didn't have our top order batters to face them. "We've done well batting first, defending scores. We thought if we scored 280 we'd be well in the game. "We weren't thinking about the Champions Trophy before this game, our attention will probably turn to that. We'll have to re-group for that England game." Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi: "The fielding and the run chase are both equally pleasing. It is the third time now that we have chased and achieved a target. "We like to have a target and that helps us play accordingly because we know what we need to do and the situation is clearer for us. "Mohammad Nabi is a special player. He is so talented and he loves to take responsibility with the ball like he did today. "We have good team unity. We are very united and we are always playing for the team and winning for the team. "We are still dreaming and we are still trying our best to make the semi-final. That would be such a big achievement for our country and for me. "A message to our country back home. We know that people are struggling, we are with them. I dedicate this win to them."

The ground felt really dewey, really wet. Length control, attacking the stumps, trying to guess what the batter was going to do was really important. The ball has come out as well as it ever has." On his batting performance: "We had to stay positive, try to bat out to the 50 and not throw it away. We came out at 240-odd and it was important to rotate the strike and stick it out to the end." Is the best still to come? "I hope so!" ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/4/9fb945c0-e93e-4298-95c8-6422d7d98047.jpgEngland captain Jos Buttler: "Disappointment. I feel like we are having the same chat after every game at the minute. There were improvements again today. We got back to more like how we can play but still short of it to lose by 30 odd. "There's plenty of ways to find those 30 runs we needed. It certainly feels like a low point. I've had a few but definitely as a captain. To be stood in this position having arrived in India with high hopes is incredibly tough and disappointing. It hurts a lot. "We haven't done ourselves justice. Coming into the tournament we fancied ourselves to have a real go and push whoever it was going to be all the way. It's incredibly tough to reach those highs absolutely. Everyone knows how much hard work goes into that, and even when you come up short. "We've let ourselves down. We've let down people down at home, who support us through thick and thin and we wear that on our own shoulders." More from England skipper Jos Buttler: "We did well in the field and it could have been better. It was a frustrating partnership from Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa at the end. It would have been nice to wrap the innings up quicker. "We were happy at the halfway point. You look at the dew on the field, and to come up 30 runs short having not played our best... there's areas we could have found those runs." On the shot which led to his dimsmissal: "It was the right shot to play, but the execution was off. It was a time to be positive and take the game on. It was the time to throw something back. My own form has been the biggest concern. Coming into the tournament I felt in a great space. So to have not played as well as I can in such a pivotal role is disappointing. My own performance with the bat has hurt us." On facing the Netherlands next, with qualification for the Champions Trophy on the line: "The only way to get back into form and winning games is to front up and go again. You have to keep putting in the hard work as individuals believing it's not far away. The longer it goes on the closer you are to coming out the other side of it." Australia captain Pat Cummins: "It's been great. The boys have played brilliantly, every game we've found a way to win. I feel like every game we've improved a little bit. I still don't think we've played the complete game. But we've had different matchwinners. "We have a lot of pride. We knew at the start of the tournament we weren't at our best. Everyone's been diving around - I'm all muddy. "Adam Zampa's been bowling beautifully. He scored 30-odd, took a hanger out there, he's a match winner. You always feel he's close to a wicket. "Maxy and Mitchy are going to be back at some stage. We've got a squad where everyone can perform if they need to." "Honestly the dew wasn't too bad tonight. We dried the ball a fair bit, in T20s it can get slippy and you slide around, but it wasn't too bad."

Saturday 4th November 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup - At M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore - Pakistan won the toss and decided to field
New Zealand - 401-6 (50 overs) Ravindra 108, Williamson 95, Phillips 41, Wasim 3-60
Pakistan - 200-1 (25.3 overs) Fakhar 126 not out, Babar 66 not out
Pakistan win by 21 runs (DLS Method)
Cricket World Cup 2023: Fakhar Zaman century leads Pakistan to crucial win over New Zealand..By Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport.
Set 402 to win, Pakistan raced to 160-1 in 21.3 overs with Fakhar Zaman hitting a sublime 63-ball century before the rain fell.
Pakistan were given a revised target of 342 in 41 overs but only four more overs were possible.
Fakhar finished with 126 and captain Babar Azam 66 in a crucial 21-run win.
The Black Caps piled up 401-6 after Rachin Ravindra's masterful 108, but struggled with a depleted bowling line-up after injuries to seamers Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson.
Pakistan's batters capitalised on a good batting pitch, with Fakhar smashing 11 sixes in his knock while Babar played a supportive role.
Despite their bowling woes, New Zealand's batting was strengthened by the return of captain Kane Williamson, who made a majestic 95 in a second-wicket stand of 180 with opener Ravindra.
Cameos from Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman and Glenn Phillips propelled New Zealand past 400 as Pakistan's bowlers also struggled.
Haris Rauf's figures of 1-82 were the most expensive by a Pakistan bowler in World Cup history, only for Shaheen Afridi to break the record minutes later with 0-90.
The result keeps the group stage open, though New Zealand remain favourites for a semi-final spot because of their superior net-run rate to Afghanistan and Pakistan, with all three teams on eight points.

Bangladesh need 280 to win - Wow, That was a chaotic end, wasn't it ?The biggest talking point arrived in the 25th over immediately after the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama. Angelo Mathews came out to the middle and took his guard to face his first ball, but realised the strap on his helmet was broken. He then called for a replacement to be brought out, resulting in a lengthy delay. In the ensuing delay Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpires for timed out and it was given. Mathews was on his way without facing a ball, the first player to be given timed out in international cricket. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/6/d6d7c119-1f8b-45e4-9103-929fff18d0f3.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/6/b29ebf87-474c-4c8c-88cd-c0270e7d3d67.jpg Shakib and Matthews

Angelo Mathews timed out: How Sri Lanka batter made international history at Cricket World Cup..By Callum Matthews, BBC Sport.i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/sport/cricket/article31370800.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/1_Angelo-Matthews.jpgSri Lanka's Angelo Mathews became the first batter to be timed out in international cricket during Monday's World Cup group-stage match against Bangladesh in Delhi. There have only been six other instances of a batter being timed out in top-level cricket since the law was introduced. So what happened, what do the Laws say and what has the reaction been? Mathews walks to the crease after Sadeera Samarawickrama is dismissed by the second ball of the 25th over. The 35-year-old is standing in his crease and about to take guard when he readjusts his helmet. The chinstrap, which goes around the jaw, breaks as he tries to tighten it. Mathews notices immediately as it snaps in his hand and calls for a new helmet. He speaks to Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, showing him the damage to his helmet and asking for time to be allowed for a replacement to be brought out. Mathews is then seen speaking to umpires Richard Illingworth and Marais Erasmus. Erasmus then speaks to Shakib, potentially to ask if he is appealing for a dismissal. Mathews then speaks to Shakib and the Bangladesh team huddle again before Erasmus tells the Sri Lankan to leave the field. Mathews eventually accepts his fate, after another exchange with Shakib, and trudges off, throwing his broken helmet into the drink boxes on the sidelines as he walks off. He throws more equipment as he walks up the stairs towards the dressing room, from where Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis comes down and is seen having an animated conversation with fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock and Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha. Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood is seen speaking to Holdstock later on. During the change of innings, Holdstock said "the batter wasn't ready within those two minutes even before the strap became an issue for him", suggesting the helmet delay was not the reason for his unusual dismissal. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/sport/article31371396.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_Angelo-MathewsJPG.jpgWhat is the Law?To make matters even more confusing, the International Cricket Council (ICC) applies a different timeframe than the Laws of the game, which are determined by MCC. The Laws apply to all cricket, except where specific playing conditions are implemented for particular tournaments, leagues or matches. Law 40.1.1 refers to a batter timed out, and reads: "After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within three minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out." However, the ICC's playing conditions for this World Cup read: "After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within two minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out." In essence, Mathews only had two minutes, rather than three, to be ready to face his first ball. BBC Sport has re-watched the incident, frame by frame, and from the moment of the ball landing in the fielder's hands for the previous wicket to the time Mathews touches the strap on his helmet, it took one minute and 54 seconds, with Mathews unlikely to have been in any position to receive the ball in time before two minutes were up. Others batters before him were ready to face inside 100 seconds. Samarawickrama was dismissed at 10:19:05 GMT and Mathews started to make his way off the field at 10:25:30, more than five minutes after the previous dismissal. Mathews could have batted without a helmet - they are not required in matches overseen by the ICC, unlike in England and Wales - but opted not to.

Tuesday 7th November 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup - At w**khede Stadium, Mumbai - Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat.
Afghanistan - 291-5 (50 overs) Zadran 129 not out, Rashid 35 not out, Hazelwood 2-39
Australia - 293-7 (46.5 overs) Maxwell 201 not out, Marsh 24, Rashid 2-44

Australia had slumped to 91-7 in pursuit of 292.. Highest ODI chase at the w**khede Stadium in Mumbai and Australia's highest World Cup chase.. Glenn Maxwell battled through injury to hit a sensational double century against Afghanistan and guide Australia into the World Cup semi-finals. Maxwell arrived at the crease to face a hat-trick ball after Australia slumped to 91-7 in pursuit of 292 in Mumbai. He was dropped twice and struggled with a back injury and cramp but played a remarkable innings, often on one leg post century, to finish 201 not out. He shared 202 with Pat Cummins (12*) as Australia won with 19 balls to spare. Afghanistan, who had earlier made 291-5 with Ibrahim Zadran hitting their first World Cup century, were well set to join Australia in the current top four after a rampant start in the field before Maxwell produced one of the all-time great innings. He had already hit the fastest World Cup century earlier in the tournament against the Netherlands and returned to the Australia side for this game after missing Saturday's win over England because of a concussion sustained after falling off the back of a golf buggy. It was a truly breathtaking innings, with remarkable reverse sweeps for six, flicks and whips over the leg side on one leg, which will also be remembered as an incredible show of grit and determination. He is the first Australian to hit a double century in a one-day international and was mobbed by his ecstatic team-mates, who could barely believe what they had seen. Australia's sixth win in a row sees them set up a semi-final clash against South Africa on Wednesday, 15 November. Player of the Match, Australia's Glenn Maxwell: "Horrific, I feel shocking. It was quite hot when we were fielding, I haven't done a whole lot of high intensity exercise in the heat. It got a hold of me, I was lucky to stick it out until the end. "It would've been nice if it was chanceless, I've lived a very charmed life out there. To make the most of it, be not out with Patty out there at the end I'm proud of." Australia captain Pat Cummins: "Just ridiculous. I don't know how you describe that. "A great win but Maxi was just out of this world. It's got to be the greatest ODI innings that has ever happened. "It's important. Not only from our team, thinking you can win from anywhere, but opposition look at that as well. It gives us real belief and we're into the semi-finals now so that's great." Afghanistan captain Hasmatullah Shahidi: "Really disappointed. Cricket is a funny game, it was unbelievable. "Our bowlers started really well, we dropped chances for the eighth wicket. Maxwell doesn't stop, I have to give credit to him. "I am proud of the team, the team will be disappointed because we didn't think that could happen. We will try our best to come out stronger against South Africa."

Wednesday 8th November 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup - At Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune - England won the toss and decided to bat.
England 339-9 (50 overs) Malan 87, Stokes 108, Woakes 51, Dutt 2-67, de Leede 3-74
Netherlands - 179 all out (37.2 overs) Nidamanuru 41 not out, Edwards 38, Ali 3-42, Rashid 3-54
England win by 160 runs
Cricket World Cup 2023: Ben Stokes hits 108 to set up England win over Netherlands..By Matthew Henry, BBC Sport in Pune.
Ben Stokes hit a superb century as England boosted their beleaguered World Cup campaign with a 160-run victory over the Netherlands in Pune.
The defending champions' hopes of progressing were already over but the result does improve their chances of qualifying for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Stokes hit 108 from 84 balls, his fifth one-day international century but first at a World Cup, to rescue England's batting line-up from more misery and drag them to 339-9.
Dawid Malan's 87 gave England a platform at 133-1 before a collapse - Malan, Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook and Moeen Ali were all out in quick succession - had them teetering at 192-6 in the 36th over.
But Stokes, crucially dropped at fine leg on 42, powered on from a steady start in a partnership of 129 from 81 balls with Chris Woakes, who made an important 51.
The Netherlands' chase never got going after early blows by Woakes and David Willey.
They were dismissed for 179 in 37.2 overs, with Willey taking 2-19, Moeen Ali 3-42 and Adil Rashid 3-54.
England's second win in eight games lifts them from bottom of the table to seventh with one match to play - a meeting with Pakistan on Saturday.
They must finish in the top eight to make the Champions Trophy and, while victory in Kolkata would all but guarantee qualification, they could already have enough if other results go their way.
Defeat here mathematically ended the Netherlands' chances of finishing in the top four and they face leaders India in their final game on Sunday.
Player of the match, England's Ben Stokes: "I'm more pleased for us to get a victory over the line, it's been a tough World Cup and it's nice to get back to winning ways . "I use the scoreboard as my friend a lot. Whenever pressure feels like it's building or if it is, I just look up and you realise you've got more time than you think."
England captain Jos Buttler: "We were desperate for the win. We got off to a great start, had a bit of a speed bump in the middle. "We needed someone to stand up and take charge. There was some very smart cricket between Stokes and Woakes to get us to that score. "The Pakistan game is huge. At the end of a disappointing tournament we finish with a game that means a lot."
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards: "We didn't start well, our bowlers did well to drag it back but they took it away from us and got just above par. Same old story with the bat. "We've been in good in patches, we just need to do it for longer. England are a quality side and they took it away from us."

Thursday 9th November 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup - At M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore - New Zealand won the toss and decided to field
Sri Lanka - 171 all out (46.4 overs) Perera 51, Theekshana 38 not out, Boult 3-37
New Zealand - 172-5 (23.2 overs) Conway 45, Mitchell 43, Ravindra 42, Matthews 2-29
New Zealand win by 5 wickets
Cricket World Cup 2023: New Zealand cruise past Sri Lanka and edge closer to semi-finals..By Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport.
New Zealand all but sealed a World Cup semi-final spot with an easy five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
Sri Lanka, who were already eliminated, were bowled out for 171, with Black Caps seamer Trent Boult taking 3-36.
In a chaotic start, they slumped to 70-5 in 9.3 overs, with opener Kusal Perera smashing 51 from 28 balls.
New Zealand reached their target in 23.2 overs to give their net run-rate a significant boost and make it unlikely they can be overtaken in fourth.
Pakistan and Afghanistan can still match the Black Caps on 10 points but would need highly improbable margins of victory over England and South Africa respectively to overhaul New Zealand's superior net run rate.
Sri Lanka could not make the most of a decent pitch after being put into bat, with Perera the only member of the top five to reach double figures.
Only stubborn resistance from final pair Maheesh Theekshana, who made 38 not out from 91, and Dilshan Madushanka, who added 19 from 48, helped them avoid a total capitulation.
The Kiwis started brightly in reply through Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra's classy opening stand of 86, then losing five wickets for 76 as they looked to seal victory as quickly as possible, before Glenn Phillips wrapped up the win.
Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis: "We lost too many wickets in the first 10 overs - 300 would have been a good score on that pitch. "I am very happy to see a couple of players putting their hands up and performing. Those guys will be our guys for the future."
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "There are a few teams that could end up on similar points so it's out of our control. "Hopefully, if it goes our way and we get to a semi, to play the host team will be a great opportunity. We'll look forward to the challenge if we get there."
Player of the Match, New Zealand's Trent Boult: "It was a big game for us and must-win, so it is pleasing to get the result. "We want to push for a big finish. Everyone wants a piece of the host nation. They are playing phenomenal cricket. I'm sure it will be an exciting game."

Friday 10th November 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup - At Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad - Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat.
Afghanistan - 244 all out (50 overs) Azmatullah 97 not out, Rahmat 26, Noor 26, Coetzee 4-44
South Africa - 247-5 (47.3 overs) van der Dussen 76 not out, de Kock 41, Phehlukwayo 39 not out
South Africa win by 5 wicketsichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/164B5/production/_131671319_gettyimages-1774895685.jpgRassie van der Dussen hit an unbeaten 76 to take South Africa to a tense five-wicket win over Afghanistan in their final World Cup group game. Gerald Coetzee took 4-44 as the Proteas bowled Afghanistan out for 244 after Azmatullah Omarzai made an unbeaten 97 to rescue the innings from 116-6. South Africa made hard work of the chase but held their nerve to get over the line in the 48th over. Defeat officially ended Afghanistan's chances of making the top four. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma: "My leg is sore. I don't know the extent of it yet but I'll have to be fine. I am stubborn, it will have to be fine. "Part of me is dreaming. We want to be back here [in the final]. But Australia are a big hurdle for us to overcome. We will enjoy today, take the learnings and then get our minds set on that game." Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi: "We gave a good message to the world in this tournament. We played big teams and we fought. The Australia game was in our hands, it was a shock that defeat. There was a lot of learning." Player of the Match, South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen: "Someone always has to play the anchor role in a chase and I was happy to do that. The platform I had from Temba and Quinton made my job a lot easier, too. "We do so well batting first and that makes people think we chase badly. We would like to improve our chasing, yes, and I think being in that situation tonight will hold us in good stead."

Saturday 11th November 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup - At Eden Gardens, Kolkata - England won the toss and decided to bat.
England - 337-9 (50 overs) Stokes 84, Root 60, Bairstow 59. Malan 31, Rauf 3-64
Pakistan - 244 all out (43.3 overs) Agha 51, Babar 38, Rizwan 36, Willey 3-56
England win by 93 runs
Cricket World Cup 2023: England beat Pakistan to end tournament with consolation win..By Matthew Henry, BBC Sport in Kolkata.
England ended their World Cup campaign with a commanding consolation victory over Pakistan in Kolkata.
With their hopes of reaching the semi-finals long gone, the defending champions put in their best performance with the bat throughout their time in India by scoring 337-9.
Ben Stokes top-scored again with 84, sharing a stand of 132 in 131 balls with Joe Root, who made 60.
Openers Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan scored 59 and 31 respectively, while Jos Buttler's 27 and Harry Brook's 30 also boosted the score.
David Willey struck with the second ball of Pakistan's chase and two further wickets took him to 100 one-day international wickets in his last game before international retirement.
Pakistan began the day with the most unlikely hope of a semi-final spot but England's impressive total meant they had to complete their chase in 6.4 overs to overhaul New Zealand's net run-rate.
They were bowled out for 244 without seriously threatening to pull off a tournament-ending win as England completed a 93-run win.
England finish the group stage in seventh to qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025, with Pakistan, who host that tournament, finishing fifth.
England captain Jos Buttler: "It's nice to put in a good performance. It probably sinks in more right now. There's lots to reflect on. "The World Cup as a whole has been a disappointment. Wherever we go from here, today was a good day. "It's not going to be a drastic change of playing style, like 2015. We know where we need to go. That doesn't mean a huge clearout, it's just pushing on from here."
Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "Very disappointing with the performance of my team, all the players. "We are trying our best but unfortunately we had a couple of loose games. "We'll sit together and let's see. We take a lot of positives from the last six weeks and we will discuss our mistakes also. I will try my best to pitch in with my experience."
Player of the match David Willey: "Obviously the tournament hasn't gone to plan for us as a whole which is a real disappointment. Obviously it would have been nice to go out on a high but for me personally to perform and enjoy the last few games, get to 100 wickets is special for me. It was a nice way to finish. It would have been have that and to make a final as well, but it's a small win. "Did the contract situation motivate me? Yes. I think Keysy [Rob Key] said 'I hope you can prove me wrong' so maybe I have done it over the last few games. People might have frowned upon the timing there, but for me personally there's not many opportunities to walk away from cricket on your terms."

Saturday 11th November 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup - At Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune - Australia won the toss and decided to field.
Bangladesh - 306-8 (50 overs) Hridoy 74, Hossain Shanto 45, Das 36, Tanzid Hasan 36, Zampa 2-32
Australia - 307-2 (44.4 overs) Marsh 177 not out, Smith 63 not out, Warner 53, Taskin 1-61
Australia win by 8 wickets
Cricket World Cup 2023: Mitchell Marsh's unbeaten century helps Australia cruise past Bangladesh..By Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport.
Mitchell Marsh smashed a brutal unbeaten 177 as Australia beat Bangladesh by eight wickets in their final World Cup group game.
Marsh struck nine sixes in his 132-ball knock as Australia reached their target of 307 with 32 balls to spare in Pune on Saturday.
Opener David Warner scored 53 and Steve Smith added 63 not out as both shared century stands with Marsh.
Bangladesh earlier posted 306-8 with Towhid Hridoy top-scoring with 74.
It was a frustrating innings for Bangladesh who squandered promising positions on a good batting surface, with all top seven batters passing 20 - but Hridoy the only one to capitalise.
They were set for a strong finish at 239-4 but Australia's bowlers closed out the innings expertly, with just 65 runs and four wickets coming from the final 10 overs.
Travis Head was bowled for 10 by Taskin Ahmed in the third over but Warner continued his fine form with his fourth 50-plus score in the tournament as he anchored the innings around Marsh's aggression.
Australia had already qualified for the semi-finals, where they will face South Africa, before this match.
Player of the match Mitchell Marsh: "It feels great, it's nice to finish off the group with another win and we're on to the semis. Hopefully that game will be a ripper. "I want to play with the same intent at number three as I do when I open and I lost that at times, so it was nice for that to come off today."
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto: "We started really well with the bat but two run outs in the middle stopped our momentum. We should have got about 340 or 350. "It has been a disappointing tournament, we haven't played our best. Individuals have put in some very good performances but we need to improve as a team."
Australia captain Pat Cummins: "Great to get a win leading into the semis. It was such a good pitch and we backed ourselves to chase that score. "We have got a few selection headaches but that's a nice problem to have. "Mitchell Marsh was incredible, he played beautifully and he is a scary prospect for bowlers."

India - 410-4 (50 overs) Shreyas 128 not out, Rahul 102, Rohit 61, Gil 51, Kohli 51, de Leede 2-82
Netherlands - 250 all out (47.5 overs) Nidamanuru 54, Engelbrecht 45, Ackermann 35, Siraj 2-29
India win by 160 runsShreyas Iyer and KL Rahul hit centuries as India made it nine wins from nine group-stage games with a 160-run victory over the Netherlands. After the top three all made fifties, Shreyas and Rahul put on 208 in Bengaluru to take India to 410-4 - their second highest World Cup total. Shreyas ended unbeaten on 128, while Rahul's 62-ball ton is the hosts' fastest at a World Cup. In reply, the Netherlands started well but fell away to be bowled out for 250. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/133E4/production/_131702887_gettyimages-1788968041.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/D002/production/_131705235_gettyimages-1789425950.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/12/b662e50c-70b7-4f14-8cbd-81efc43a4444.jpgIndia skipper Rohit Sharma gave the coin a toss a little while ago. INDIA WIN BY 160 RUNSAs expected after posting 410, it is a comprehensive victory for India in the end. The Netherlands finish their World Cup campaign with defeat but they have performed admirably, while India march on to next week's semi-final with a confidence-boosting performance. Player of the Match Shreyas Iyer: "It was a bit like deja vu when I was getting nearer to the century, because when I got close against Australia I threw my wicket away so I wanted to kick on. "I hurt my arm on 95 so I had to settle down and take a bit more time. "My last few innings have given me a lot of confidence. It wasn't an easy wicket to start on so I knew I had to make the most of getting a good start." Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards: "I think we played two really good games of cricket in the tournament and gave ourselves opportunities in other games. It's tricky to say where we were compared to where we wanted to be. "We are pretty confident with the style we play. We knew it was going to be a tough tournament. We have a lot to get better at ahead of the T20 World Cup next year. "I think India showed pure class with the bat, I thought we bowled well in periods. They soaked up the pressure. They are going to be a hard side to beat in the rest of the tournament. As for ourselves, we are a young side still and it's about growth for us." India captain Rohit Sharma: "Honestly, since we started the tournament it was always about taking one game at a time and playing that game well. "11 games in all if you go all the way, that's a lot of games. It's important for us to break it down and focus on one game and play it well. "That's what everyone did. You play in different conditions, you've got to adapt and that's what we did. "We're very pleased with how we played in these nine games. We've been very clinical from game one until today. That's because different individuals have stepped up at different points. "This is a good sign for a team when everybody wants to take the responsibility and get the job done."
