India will start out as hot favourites, especially as the last three World Cup's have been won by the host country. However, will the dew play a big part? We saw when the T20 was held in Dubai/Emirates (?) that if a team won the toss, they always batted second because the dew made bowling difficult and batting easier in the second innings. I hope not. I like the format where every team play each other in one big group with the top four going into the semi's. With India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan all capable of beating each other on the day it will be a real dogfight to get into the top four.

England's defence of their World Cup title began with a nine-wicket hammering at the hands of New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
The rematch of the final four years ago offered none of the tension of that Lord's epic with the Black Caps cantering home in pursuit of 283.
They reached their target with 13.4 overs to spare - Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra both hitting stunning centuries.
Conway ended 152 not out and Ravindra unbeaten on 123 as the pair combined for a sensational 273-run partnership - the fourth-highest in men's World Cup history - which rendered England's attack toothless.
In contrast, England struggled to 282-9 in a lacklustre batting performance. Joe Root made 77 but a series of soft dismissals checked their progress.
They have to wait until Tuesday for their next match - a meeting with Bangladesh in Dharamshala.
England captain Jos Buttler: "A very disappointing day. We were very much outplayed by New Zealand and it's a tough defeat to take.
"We were a long way short of our best.
"But it is just one loss at the start of a long tournament. We've beaten teams like this before and we've suffered defeats like this before as well, we won't read too much into it."
Player of the match, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra: "It's a little bit unbelievable. It was great to have a great day out.
"The boys bowled and fielded really well to restrict them to 282 and then lucky I had Devon out there with me to show me how to do it.
England batter Joe Root, speaking to BBC Sport: "A disappointing day from a number of aspects. Batting-wise, we just couldn't get that significant partnership like they did that would have allowed us to really set the game up.
"We also didn't bowl as well as we can do, which does happen when you're below where you want to be with the bat. When the conditions change as well, it all just adds up to making that gulf enormous."
New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "A fantastic performance. It was a brilliant partnership between Devon and Rachin but going back to our bowlers, they did a fantastic job to set us up.
"We're super proud of Rachin, batting at three for the first time in an ODI, and he played beautifully."

Pakistan overcame a spirited Netherlands to claim an 81-run win in their World Cup opener at Hyderabad.
Pakistan were bowled out for 286 off 49 overs, with both Saud Shakeel and Muhammad Rizwan scoring 68.
The Netherlands reached 120-2 as they started well in their chase, but stalled after losing four wickets for 38 runs in the middle overs.
All-rounder Bas de Leede took 4-62 and hit 67, but his fine efforts were in vain as his side finished 205 all out.
Pakistan had slipped to 38-3 early on, with captain Babar Azam falling for just five, before Shakeel and Rizwan put on a vital stand of 120.
De Leede struck twice in the 32nd over to drag his side back into contention, before claiming two wickets in two balls in the 44th over to break a partnership of 64 between Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.
Netherlands opener Vikram Singh made a gutsy half-century in reply, but De Leede struggled for support from the middle and lower order as Pakistan's experienced bowling attack withstood the pressure, led by seamer Haris Rauf's 3-43, with the Dutch dismissed off 41 overs.
The Netherlands play New Zealand in their next fixture on Monday, while Pakistan face Sri Lanka the following day.
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards: "It's probably a game that got away. We were in a good position to win at 120-2.
"Losing wickets in the middle held us back. Bas de Leede is a quality cricketer and we just needed someone else to go with him."
Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "I'm pretty satisfied. All credit to the bowlers, the wickets in the middle order really put pressure on them.
"Muhammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel gave us the partnership to give us momentum. We are very happy."

Aiden Markram hit the fastest World Cup hundred as South Africa made 428-5 - the highest score in the tournament's history - in a statement 102-run victory over Sri Lanka in Delhi.
Markram made his ton off 49 balls, one quicker than Ireland's Kevin O'Brien against England in Bangalore in 2011.
He finally fell for 106 from 54, after Quinton de Kock had earlier hit 100 from 84 balls and Rassie van der Dussen a 110-ball 108.
David Miller, who struck 39 from 21, and Marco Jansen then took the score beyond the previous record of Australia's 417-6 against Afghanistan in 2015.
Sri Lanka, who are coached by former England coach Chris Silverwood, crumbled amid the carnage on the flattest of pitches.
They leaked 21 wides and had to bowl the final two overs with another fielder up inside the ring because of a slow over-rate.
Matheesha Pathirana conceded 26 runs from the 43rd over, with the seamer's 10 overs costing 95 for one wicket.
They fought admirably with the bat - Kusal Mendis' thrilling 76 from 42 balls with eight towering sixes even giving them hope of the most unlikely of victories early on.
Charith Asalanka smacked 79 from 65 and captain Dasun Shanaka held up South Africa's progress with a defiant 68 off 62, but Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for 326 in 44.5 overs.
With 754, it is the most runs scored in a Men's World Cup match.
Player of the match, South Africa batter Aiden Markram: "It obviously feels fantastic. The platform was laid beautifully by Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen, which allowed us to go out and play naturally.
"I am pretty clear with what is expected of me. Assess the situation and play accordingly. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it does not."
Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka: "I expected a high-scoring game. The execution was not there, we were missing the right length. On these kind of wickets that's very tough.
"We had the momentum, especially the way that Mendis and Asalanka played, but their total was a little too much for us."
South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma: "Happy for us. I can't find fault with the batting. We were not quite clinical with the ball but we will take that confidence into the next game."

Bangladesh cruised to a six-wicket victory over Afghanistan to begin their World Cup campaign in Dharamsala.
Afghanistan batted first on a good pitch but squandered the opportunity as they were bowled out in a haze of loose strokes for 156 in 37.2 overs.
The Tigers were 27-2 in reply, but a stand of 97 between Mehidy Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto helped them reach their target with 15.2 overs to spare.
Bangladesh next meet England at the same venue on Tuesday (06:00 BST).
Afghanistan, who have now lost 13 consecutive World Cup matches dating back to 2015, play hosts India in Delhi on Wednesday.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan: "It wasn't easy but I am very happy with the way we bowled.
"All five bowlers chipped in, the spinners played a bigger role but it's a long tournament, I am sure the fast bowlers will contribute more."

After being put in, the Kiwis made 322-7 with opener Will Young, Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra all making fifties. The Netherlands, who have lost their opening two games, were always behind the rate and lost regular wickets. Fingers crossed next game, we will be fully available." Netherlands captain Scott Edwards: "I thought we were pretty good for the first 47 overs and then they got away from us in the last three overs and it pushed the score a little bit further than we were hoping for. "You're not going to chase 320 down with 40s, 50s and 60s. We'll speak about that with the guys and in the next couple of games we'll need to put on bigger scores and partnerships." Player of the match, New Zealand's Mitchell Santner: "Not too bad! Credit to the boys up front with the bat, they gave us a good platform. "The nature of the surfaces, it was nice tonight because there was a bit of purchase. I didn't bowl my best but it was nice to get some rewards. "I've been lucky to be in India for a few years now and every time you play, you bank experience on different pitches. Today it was a little bit slow and that faster pace where it held in the wicket did a job."

Cricket World Cup 2023: England bounce back by thrashing Bangladesh as Dawid Malan hits century..By Matthew Henry, BBC Sport in Dharamsala.England responded to defeat in their World Cup opener by comprehensively beating Bangladesh by 137 runs in Dharamsala. After last week's heavy nine-wicket loss to New Zealand, Dawid Malan's superb 140 from 107 balls formed the basis of a much-improved England's 364-9. Malan put on 115 for the first wicket with Jonny Bairstow and 151 from just 117 balls with Joe Root, who made a typically composed 82 from 68. Root and Malan took the score to 266-1 in the 38th over but the loss of eight wickets for 96 runs meant England failed to take full advantage. Their score still proved plenty, however, with seamer Reece Topley, brought in to replace spinning all-rounder Moeen Ali, bowling a fine new-ball spell. He took two wickets in as many balls in the second over and bowled Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan for one in the sixth. Liton Das held firm with 76 and Mushfiqur Rahim made 51 but the required run-rate was always climbing. Topley returned to dismiss Mushfiqur - the left-armer finished with figures of 4-43 - and Bangladesh slowly slid to 227 all out in 48.2 overs. The win means England move to Delhi, where they play Afghanistan on Sunday, with momentum and confidence boosted. England batter and player of the match Dawid Malan: "I'm going to say experience if anything. It's nice to contribute, it's been a long journey to get here. I don't know what it's down to but hopefully, it continues." How much do you think you've worked on your game against spin?: "I think sometimes, people create a narrative of something that isn't there to support their writing or views, it has always been there, sometimes you play good shots, sometimes you play bad shots. It is about cashing in when you can." Does it help when your number three batter is Joe Root, can you express yourselves more?: "When you've got Joe Root at number three, it allows us to play with freedom." Is it your experience that is allowing you to score big hundreds recently when you have got settled in a game?: "Maybe a bit of hunger, I'm desperate to do well in this format and prove a point that I deserve to be in there." England captain Jos Buttler: "I think it was a really good performance to bounce back from a disappointing first game and we still feel there are areas to improve." What did you hope to improve on?: "I thought it was a fantastic score on that pitch, it got harder towards the end but we could've got more at the back end. Some big partnerships at the start, excellent from Dawid Malan to take a lead." How do you strike the balance of being as good as possible in all areas of the game?: "I think you're always looking for the perfect performance, the turnover from 30-40 we scored about 100 runs. That 30-40 period was very smart. There's not many times you come off and don't think there's many areas to improve which is great." How do you see your squad and rotation going into the next game?: "It's going to be one of the challenges of the tournament, reading the pitch well and our options. The guys on the bench are great, we've got different options. Reece Topley was great today coming in and got big early wickets in the powerplay."
