Wednesday 25th October 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup 2023 - Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi - Australia won the toss and decided to bat.
Australia - 399-8 (50 overs) Maxwell 106, Warner 104, Smith 71, Labuschagne 62, Van Beek 4-74
Netherlands - 90 all out (21 overs) Singh 25, Nidamanuru 14, Zampa 4-8, Marsh 2-19, Cummins 1-14
Australia win by 309 runs
Cricket World Cup 2023: Glenn Maxwell hits fastest World Cup century as Australia thrash Netherlands..By Callum Matthews, BBC Sport.
Glenn Maxwell hit the fastest men's World Cup century in 40 balls as Australia inflicted a record tournament defeat on the Netherlands in Delhi.
The right-hander beat Aiden Markram's record of 49 balls, set 18 days ago for South Africa against Sri Lanka.
The Netherlands were bowled out for 90 in response, to suffer a 309-run loss.
David Warner also made his second century of the tournament as Australia racked up 399-8, with Bas de Leede conceding an ODI record 115.
Maxwell's innings was full of power and extraordinary strokeplay, and is the fourth fastest in ODI history and Australia's quickest, beating his 51-ball ton against Sri Lanka in the 2015 World Cup.
South Africa's AB de Villiers' 31-ball century is the fastest, coming against West Indies in 2015.
The margin of defeat beats Afghanistan's 275-run defeat by Australia in the 2015 World Cup, while it is also Australia's biggest ODI win.
Australia captain Pat Cummins: "Really happy, that's just about the complete game. As good as I could have hoped for. We're starting to play to our potential and play the style we always talk about." On Maxwell's hundred: "That was crazy. A hundred-run partnership, I think we contributed equally... That was just a freak show, you've got no options as a bowler when someone is running as hot as that."
Australia all-rounder and Player of the Match Glenn Maxwell: "It's probably something I didn't set out to do. I just tried to get a good platform. On this ground, you can cash in and it was nice to get a bit of rhythm finally and hit a few out of the middle of the bat. "It's a huge confidence boost, a few doubts creep in when you haven't got runs. "It's like a perfect game, when you get 400 and bowl a team out for under 100. We've had three good wins now and will look to build on that momentum."
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards: "They are a quality unit and defending 400, they've got world-class bowlers and we should've been better today. "We've just got to look at a few things from this game and move on quickly."

"We stay very level as a group. There is some frustration about not playing how we'd like but there is qualify individually and collectively and we have to play more as group. "We haven't performed as well we'd like throughout the team but hopefully we can get a good start today. "We're changing the balance of the side again with Harry Brook, Reece Topley and Gus Atkinson missing out for Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes." The Teams England: Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (capt & wk), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood. 1st WICKET - Malan c Mendis b Mathews 28 (Eng 45-1)
2nd WICKET - Root run out (Mathews) 3 (Eng 57-2) ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/10/26/d133fd8e-9ef5-44ff-9f67-39e96adee457.jpg That's a poor run. When you're a bit nervy, a bit jittery, running between the wickets becomes a bit difficult. Jonny Bairstow had no interest in that run.

Thursday 26th October 2023 - ICC Men's World Cup 2023 - At M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore - England won the toss and decided to bat.
England - 156 all out (33.2 overs) Bairstow 30, Malan 28, Stokes 43, Ali 15, Kumara 3-35, Mathews 2-14
Sri Lanka - 160-2 (25.4 overs) Nissanka 77 not out, Samarawickrama 65 not out, Willey 2-30
Sri Lanka win by 8 wickets
Cricket World Cup 2023: England facing early exit as Sri Lanka inflict latest sorry defeat..By Matthew Henry, BBC Sport in Bengaluru.
England's World Cup is all but over after a shambolic eight-wicket defeat by Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
The defending champions are not mathematically out but now must win all of their remaining games, including against unbeaten hosts India on Sunday, and hope an unlikely set of results go their way.
Attempting to respond to a record defeat by South Africa, England's campaign slumped into complete disarray as they were bowled out for 156.
They reached 45-0 before the wicket of Dawid Malan, caught behind off 36-year-old Angelo Mathews for 28, began a miserable slide.
Joe Root ran himself out for a nervy three, Jonny Bairstow swiped to mid-on for 30 and captain Jos Buttler was caught behind for eight playing a flashing drive.
Ben Stokes dug in but holed out for 43 from 73 balls as wickets tumbled around him. England's innings subsided in 33.2 overs.
David Willey dismissed Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis to reduce Sri Lanka to 23-2 inside six overs, but they still eased to victory with 24.2 to spare - Pathum Nissanka ending 77 not out and Sadeera Samarawickrama unbeaten on 65.
Sri Lanka, whose only previous win in this year's tournament came against the Netherlands, jump to fifth in the standings while England are ninth, with only net run-rate keeping them off the bottom of the table.
Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis: "Net run-rate going up is good for our team. We've done really well, the bowling team did a really good job. "We have another four games left, I think if we win three games we can make the semi-finals. We can do that."
Former England bowler Steven Finn on BBC Test Match Special: "England have had a less than ideal period of four years. Other forces in world cricket have meant their focus has been elsewhere. "Especially in the final year prior to the tournament, you want to know what your positions are. In the 2015 World Cup, which I played in, we didn't play the right style of cricket, but we didn't chop and change our line-up. "England don't seem to have known their best XI."
IMHO - ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES, PATHETIC, DISGRACEFUL, ABYSMAL, GUTLESS, SPINELESS, EMBARASSING, CLUELESS, APPALLING, SHOCKING, DEFENDING CHUMPS...

i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31195602.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/0_England-v-Afghanistan-ICC-Mens-Cricket-World-Cup-India-2023.jpgEngland captain Jos Buttler at his press conference: "It's incredibly tough, an incredibly disappointing tournament. As captain, you feel that a lot. "We've been short of our best by a very long way. I'm disappointed for myself and the boys that we've not shown a good account of ourselves. "That's the question we're trying to answer. There's no clear answer. If there was one golden nugget that we're not doing then we'd pick that up. "I can't fault the guys' efforts, we're just a long way short of our best. As captain, you want to lead from the front and play well. I've been a long way short of my best and that's filtered through the rest." "It's never through a lack of effort," he says. "This tournament has gone nowhere near the way we wanted to. There is no secret. "I've been a long way short of my best. As a leader you want to lead from the front and I've not been able to do that." "Obviously incredibly disappointing and incredibly frustrating. "We're not just losing, we're losing by a long way and playing well short of our best. A huge disappointment. "It's never for a lack of effort, hard work or preparation. Look around the room, it's not a lack of talent. We've got a lot of fantastic cricketers. It's a huge frustration, this tournament has gone nowhere near the way we wanted it to. "If there was one golden egg that we were missing then you'd hope to see that. But there is no secret, no one else can score your own runs or take your own wickets. "That starts with the captain and I've been a long way short of my best. As a leader, you want to lead through your own performance and I've not been able to do that. "You get on the plan to come to India in a really good position as a team, everything going to plan and it's just not worked at all." More from Jos Buttler at his press conference: "We're a really good team, done a lot of really good things in the recent past in white-ball cricket, 50-over cricket. "You get on the plane with high hopes and a belief we can challenge for the title so to sit here now after the three weeks which have been is a shock. It's a shock to everyone. "I'll go back to the changing room and look at the players sat there and think, 'how have we got ourselves into this position with the talent and the skill that's in the room?' But it's the position we're in, it's the reality of what's happened over the last three weeks. "It's a huge low point. "You're always questioning, as captain, how you can get the best out of players and get the team moving in the right direction. I have a lot of confidence and belief in myself as a captain and leader - and, first and foremost, as a player. "But if you're asking if I should still be captain of the team, that's a question for the guys above me." On losing confidence: "There is a lot of really experienced, tough cricketers in the room, who have been through a lot and are confident people. "They're tough people and you don't become a bad player or team overnight. That's what's so frustrating that we've been so far short of our the standards we set ourselves." On selection: "I think selection is something you want to be consistent with, build that trust and longevity but selection is not our problem at the moment. Performances have been. Whoever has been in the team, in this tournament has been short of their best." On lack of concentration: "It's obvious to say that. A lot of the dismissals, you don't see those kind of mistakes from us. We've all been making mistakes, not building partnerships and doing the basics well with bat and ball. "The biggest thing is personal pride and the way we play as a team. We're not giving a good account of ourselves in this tournament and whatever happens, we want to get back to playing some good cricket." More from Jos Buttler at his press conference: "Sri Lanka played really well, really outplayed us. "There were a number of their players who played really well. "Performance is the obvious thing. A lot of us, including myself, are not performing to the level that you expect of yourself or demand of yourself as an individual. "There's no golden bullet, that one thing that if we did it then everything is right again. We're just not performing to the level we need and expect to compete and play our best. "Whoever we play next, we want to focus on ourselves as individuals and as a team. Absolutely keep asking questions to find out what the problems are and try to fix them. "There is a hell of a lot of pride and a lot of guys who are disappointed with the way they've played. Speaking for myself, you feel that as much as captain. As an individual, you want to perform at your best from here on in in this tournament. "Whatever happens from here in the tournament, we want to play good, hard games of cricket and play well well, get back to playing the way we know we can. "It looks like we'll need a few miracles and things to go our way to progress further in the tournament but the games we have left, we want to play the cricket we know we can play." More from Jos Buttler at his press conference: "In any sport, you can't protect anything, you have to go and create something new. We've touched on experience and having banked stuff before but something we spoke about a lot as a team is that you have to go and create it again. "You can't rest of your laurels or just to protect an image or protect something as a team. That's why at the very beginning of the tournament, I said we weren't here to defend our title, we were here to start something new and win something. "Obviously, we're falling a long way short of that at the moment but, as players, we didn't take anything for granted or just think it'll be alright on the night. You don't get to the level like this by thinking like that. "As players, the schedules are the schedules and we've got a lot of things in our favour. We've got a lot of support from the coaches within the environment, fantastic support from our fans as a country and we've let them all down. "It's been a disappointing few weeks and a shock to perform as we have with the team that we do have. I don't think there is any blame elsewhere, expect with ourselves, and as captain, you feel that the most."

Saturday 28th October - ICC World Cup - Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala - New Zealand won the toss and decided to field.
Australia - 388 all out (49.2 overs) Head 109, Warner 89, Maxwell 41, Boult 3-77, Phillips 3-37
New Zealand - 383-9 (50 overs) Ravindra 116, Neesham 58, Mitchell 54, Zampa 3-74, Cummins 2-66
Australia win by 5 runs
Australia overcame a spirited New Zealand to extend their World Cup winning streak to four games in a high-scoring thriller in Dharamsala.
The Black Caps needed 19 to win from the final over to complete a World Cup record chase of 389.
But James Neesham was agonisingly run out for 58 off the penultimate ball and last man Lockie Ferguson could not hit the six needed from the final delivery.
They finished five runs short on 383-9, led by Rachin Ravindra's stunning 116.
The combined tally of 771 runs made it the highest-scoring World Cup game of all time.
Earlier, Travis Head's brutal 109 from 67 balls, in an opening stand of 175 in 19.1 overs with David Warner, helped Australia to their imposing total of 388.
An uncharacteristically sloppy performance in the field saw New Zealand spill four catches, including Head on 70 and 75, amid a chaotic opening bowling display.
The usually consistent seamers Matt Henry and Trent Boult struggled in the face of Warner and Head's aggressive start, with the pair smashing 118-0 in the 10-over powerplay - an Australian ODI record.
Part-time spinner Glenn Phillips took 3-37 to record the only respectable figures in Australia's total, which included 20 sixes.
Australia have recovered from two successive defeats to start the tournament and are well-placed for a semi-final spot, while New Zealand's hopes are not too severely dented after their strong start of four wins.
Australia captain Pat Cummins: "That was awesome. A fantastic game, they kept coming at us. "That was a good wicket. In patches we bowled really well, sometimes we gave too much width away. Some really good partnerships, it was tough to get into them. "We'll enjoy this one and get stuck in on the back end."
New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "It was a fantastic game of cricket. There were ebbs and flows throughout the 100 overs. Obviously to get so close hurts. It was a fantastic game. "You need to play the perfect game when you are chasing near 400. They put us off to a fantastic start and it was a fantastic knock from Rachin [Ravindra] - one of the better ones you'll see in a chase. "It was pretty special to get close. I'm proud of the guys."

Sunday 29th October - ICC World Cup - Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow - England won the toss and decided to field.
India - 229-9 (50 overs) Rohit 87, Yadav 39, Rahul 39, Willey 3-45, Rashid 2-35
England - 129 all out (34.5 overs) Livingstone 27, Shami 4-22, Bumrah 3-32
India win by 100 runs
England's miserable World Cup campaign slumped further as they collapsed to a 100-run defeat by hosts India in Lucknow. Chasing 230 on a tricky pitch, the defending champions were bowled out for 129 amid raucous home support in their latest batting capitulation. It is their fourth defeat in succession in India and their fifth overall - the first time they have lost five times at a World Cup. After a steady England start, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Dawid Malan and Joe Root in consecutive deliveries to ignite the crowd and spark a horrible collapse of four wickets for nine runs in 27 balls. All 10 wickets went for just 99 runs. Ben Stokes, like Root, was out for a duck. He struggled for nine balls before being bowled playing an ugly slog to Mohammed Shami, who also knocked over Jonny Bairstow for 14 via an inside edge.
England captain Jos Buttler: "Very disappointing. At the halfway stage chasing 230, we fancied ourselves. But it's the same old story. "Whatever way you want to approach the game, it is about being committed to that. For me, it was soaking up pressure, building up partnerships and killing pressure. "It is about executing your skill, chasing 230 there wasn't scoreboard pressure but we are just falling short. Whatever way we are going for it at the minute."
Player of the match Rohit Sharma: "Looking at where we were after the first 10 overs of our batting, it was important to put on a partnership like myself and KL Rahul did. It was a challenging pitch to start with but it got easier the longer you spent in the middle. We are very happy with the performance. "But it was a great performance and we would take that win any day."
UTTER UTTER GARBAGE, THEY SHOULD FORFEIT THE REMAINING GAMES AND JUST COME HOME, IT IS EMBARRASSING AND WE ARE NOW A LAUGHING STOCK...

Saturday 28th October - ICC World Cup - Netherlands v Bangladesh, Eden Gardens, Kolkata - Netherlands won the toss and decided to bat
Netherlands - 229 all out (50 overs) Edwards 68, Baresi 41, Engelbrecht 35, Mustafizur 2-36
Bangladesh - 142 all out (42.2 overs) Mehidy 35, Mahmudullah 20, van Meekeren 4-23
Netherlands win by 87 runs
Paul van Meekeren took 4-23 and skipper Scott Edwards made a crucial 68 as the Netherlands beat Bangladesh by 87 runs to earn their second World Cup win.
Edwards' knock laid a solid platform for the Dutch to post a competitive 229 on a tricky Eden Gardens pitch.
Mehidy Miraz made 35 for Bangladesh but despite some lower-order resistance they were rolled for 142 as the Dutch clinically closed out an emphatic win
The win leaves the Netherlands eighth in the table, and England bottom.
Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards: "We thought if we could get to 220 plus we would be in the game. "Our bowlers were awesome. They have been stepping up. We were great in the field as well. "The system is getting more professional in the Netherlands. We train incredibly hard and expect big things from our players. It's nice to get the rewards. "We have some hard games to come but the semi-finals remains our goal."
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan: "I thought we bowled really well but we were sloppy in the field. We should have restricted them to 160-170 from the position we were in. "We have been poor with the bat throughout this tournament and this is as bad as it gets. We have been struggling big time, "There are three games to come and we have to pick up ourselves and I know it's hard but we have to try to finish the tournament on a high."

Cricket World Cup 2023: Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka to keep semi-final hopes alive..By Sam Drury, BBC Sport.
Afghanistan kept their World Cup semi-final dream alive with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka.
After Fazal Farooqi took 4-34 to help bowl Sri Lanka out for 241, Rahmat Shah made a composed 62 to put Afghanistan on course in the chase.

Sri Lanka had made a solid start after being put in to bat, reaching 134-2 before a middle-order collapse saw them slump to 185-7.
Angelo Matthews and Maheesh Theekshana added 45 for the eighth wicket but both fell to the impressive Farooqi as Sri Lanka were bowled out with three balls of the innings remaining.
Dilshan Madushanka bowled Rahmanullah Gurbaz four balls into Afghanistan's reply but there was no panic from the batting side as Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat put on 73 for the second wicket.
There might have been concern when Rahmat was dismissed with 111 still needed for victory but captain Hashmatullah and Azmatullah held their nerve, calmly ticking off the runs before kicking for home when the finishing line came into view.
With three games to go, Afghanistan jump to fifth and stay right in the mix for a top-four finish, albeit with a significantly worse net run-rate than any of the sides above them.
Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi: "I'm quite happy and proud of the team. I thought we performed well in all three departments. "The Pakistan game gave us a lot of confidence that we can chase down any kind of target. "During matches all the staff are working hard especially Jonathan [Trott], he is always positive. He had a word with me before the game and it changed my mindset a lot."
Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis: "I think we were a little bit short of runs. We needed 280 or 300 on this pitch. I think the bowlers did well in the first 10 overs but it was tough after that."

A mahoosive 98-7 at the mo!! Will they scramble to 100? 🤔 129 all out ...loose by 100 runs..never in doubt...about the defeat anyway 😂 Rumours suggest there is a massive rift in the England camp. One group wants Root to replace Butler as Captain, and have done since before the World Cup started. Bringing Stokes back was apparently unpopular with a lot of the player, especially as he wasn't fit. The best batsman so far, Harry Brook, who is averaging 32 was left out of the last two games. Root has scored four runs in his last four innings! If Mott doesn't survive as Coach then he will be replaced by Eion Morgan. It's not just the defeats but the manner of them. England are being thrashed !

England are being thrashed ! Well Root is a bit of a hypocrite here, one minute complaining that they(England) don't play enough 50 over cricket ( current champions!!...make that out?) And then in the test series complaining about the schedule of cramming too much in 🤔

Cricket World Cup 2023: Pakistan race to victory to eliminate Bangladesh..By Sam Drury, BBC Sport.Fakhar Zaman scored a rapid 81 as Pakistan raced to a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in the World Cup. Set 205 to win, Fakhar and Abdullah Shafique put on 128 to help Pakistan surge to victory in 32.3 overs. Shaheen Afridi earlier took his 100th one-day international wicket as he spearheaded a fantastic bowling effort to bowl Bangladesh out for 204. Bangladesh's sixth straight loss means they are the first side officially out of semi-final contention. Tigers captain Shakib Al Hasan opted to bat first at the toss, but his side were soon in trouble as Shaheen trapped Tanzid Hasan lbw fifth ball to claim his landmark wicket. Shaheen struck again in his next over; and when Haris Rauf removed Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh were 23-3. Mahmudullah and Liton Das led the recovery, but the former was bowled by a beauty from Shaheen soon after reaching his half-century and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals before Mohammad Wasim took three in seven reverse-swinging balls to wrap up the innings. After a frenetic start, Pakistan soon settled into their chase and Fakhar - recalled for his first game since Pakistan's opening match against the Netherlands - showed his intent with a monstrous six over the leg side off Taskin Ahmed. He proceeded to hit a further six maximums before he holed out off Mehidy Hasan Miraz 19 runs shy of a century. By that stage, the result was a formality and Muhammad Rizwan hit the winning runs with 105 balls to spare. Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "I congratulate the boys for the way they played in all three departments. "We know when Fahkar plays the way he can for 20-30 overs it is a different ball game. So we let him play his natural game and it is good to see." Still believe they can finish in the top four: "Yes. We are trying to win our next two matches and let's see where we stand. We will take a lot of confidence into those matches." On the performance of his bowlers: "We started well. Shaheen took early wickets. The built a partnership between 15-20 overs but we brought back our main bowlers and took wickets. "The main thing is we stuck to our length in the middle overs and we took wickets." Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan: "We did not get enough runs. I thought the wicket was really good. We lost early wickets again and from there on there were some partnership but not big partnerships where we could go hard in the last 10 overs. It was disappointing with the bat but we should have bowled better. Credit goes to Pakistan with the way they bowled and batted in the first 10 overs. "Should I bat at number three? We should think about that. At this moment we are not getting runs from the top four batters. I was batting at top four and didn't score runs so my confidence was low too. Luckily I got some runs and I am feeling better so we can talk about it. Changing too many things at this moment makes it difficult but we have to do something. It's not working but we have to keep moving forward and think of something which might work. "At this moment we have to perform together in all three departments. It's not any individual that can win us games. We need collective performances. Two more matches hopefully we can bounce back. The fans supported us and are behind us whether we are doing well or not. We have to give something back to them so they can smile."
