Clarke-Harris was all set to join Rovers after Posh accepted a bid believed in the region on £800,000 on Friday’s deadline day, however, the move collapsed after 11pm when the Gas failed to complete the paperwork on time. Clarke-Harris had left Posh’s base at Portsmouth and remained absent for Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Fratton Park following the breakdown of the move. Instead, Ephron Mason-Clark filled the role on central striker as Posh retained Ricky-Jade Jones on the wing from Tuesday’s EFL Cup victory over the same opponents. Bristol Rovers released a statement on Saturday afternoon confirming their attempts to sign the 29-year-old but the club blamed “late changes to the deal” that prevented it from being completed. Speaking about what was a hectic ending to the transfer window, Ferguson insisted that Posh could have done nothing more to make the deal happen. He said: “It was a very hectic last day but up until ten to 11, it was quite smooth. “Jonno travelled with the team in the morning, we had the team meeting about Portsmouth and he would have been in the team, he played very well last week. “At about five o’clock the chairman told me there might be a chance that he’ll get permission to talk to Bristol and at quarter to six, I went down to see him and we agreed it was the right time for him to move on. “He was getting a three year deal at 29, which is very good, and a large part of his family is down there. “He got in the car, Liz (Elsom, Head of Football Operations) sent over the agreement at 8:30, which they agreed with and told us so at nine o’clock. At ten to 11, we were told he was still not registered. “Before 11, you can put a request in to get another 15 minutes and they didn’t do that until 20 past 11. Unbelievable, we were just like ‘what?’ “They just failed to get him registered, nothing else can be done. "That’s the danger if you leave it until the last minute to try and sign someone rather than doing it three or four days previous. That’s the risk they run and they’ve made a mistake. We did everything we could.” Posh have now ended the window with three strikers after bringing in Jacob Wakeling from Swindon on Friday and confirming the signing of former Chelsea forward Malik Mothersille prior to Saturday’s kick-off. Kabongo Tshimanga was also allowed to leave to join Fleetwood Town on loan. Ferguson added: “Jonno is back with us, I spoke to him at quarter past 11 and you can imagine how he was. I felt for him because it was a blow. I’ll have to manage that situation. “Obviously he wasn’t going to play today after that, his head wasn’t there after that and he’d been travelling so much. “I have to speak to him tonight and lift him, he’s very down but he’s 29- he’s not a kid and he’ll get on with it and he knows he’s got competition now. He’ll be fine with that. “I’ve got many choices now about who I play up front and we’ve now got pace and youth, which is exactly what I want. "That doesn’t mean he won’t play again, that would be foolish, so he’ll just get on with it.” “The chairman was brilliant because he went and got two players in before Jonno signed. I thought he might have pulled out of one of those deals but credit to him. "We let Kabby go because the move has just not worked out for him."

I thought he might have pulled out of one of those deals but credit to him. "We let Kabby go because the move has just not worked out for him." it pretends to be precise, but it doesn’t actually shed any light on what “Bristol Rovers Mistake” actually was. I also don’t know what it was they accepted on Friday posh couldn’t have accepted, or we hadn’t offered Thursday. Sometimes it’s only press go button when replacement is in, that poor lad at Fulham missed his dream move to Bayern because of that yesterday. maybe agreeing personal terms led to late changes, but that wouldn’t be forgivable as you are allowed to agree them before the finer details of the deal with club, so should already have that in place before posh pushed go button. although we can put a good 11 out, are we lacking in depth behind it now. Jono a good 9 in league 1 because he scores goals, has a good shot. But so often a strong 9 who can hold a ball makes a difference to a team without a weight of goals, just by holding it allowing transition to happen, transition being the likes of Collins getting into a dangerous bit of space to receive it in.

This morning an EFL representative confirmed that our contract application for Jonson Clarke-Harris was rejected.
The club had worked throughout the day to agree terms with Peterborough, the player and his representatives, however, late changes to the deal prevented it being completed.
The outcome is a disappointing one for all involved however, everything possible was done to finalise the agreement and register the required documents with the EFL ahead of the deadline.

This has already been posted a few pages back, this is the clubs statement of proceedings. I am now of the opinion that the word ‘however’ being used was an attempt to spark wild scenes of jubilation that the club had sent all documents and files in a timely manner and that no blame whatsoever can be placed on the club. perhaps that is so, I guess we will never know.

I listened to a 7 minute post match interview with the Posh manager, and heard him say that JCH left Portsmouth around 6pm in a car which should have taken a couple of hours. Not sure how long a medical takes but it is unlikely to have been completed by 9pm, when the clubs agreed the transfer details were correct. I guess we will never actually know what the last minute changes were but now Posh have a lot of forwards to select from and how JCH will view the gas after this disappointing episode is going to be interesting.

I’ve just read the “ official” official explanation for the JCH fiasco which has been posted by GH81/ITB on Gaschat after he (quite by chance) bumped into Tom Gorringe at the match today. No need to go into detail, five words will do, it was not Rovers fault. Again ! In case people haven't seen it, here's a copy & paste from ITB / GH1981's post on Gaschat... gashead1981 said:
This is what I was told today by Tom when I bumped into pre match.
He said they agreed a deal at 5:30pm verbally with JCH and P’boro.
Jonno arrived at 8-8:30pm and then changed what he wanted. They agreed terms which took an hour of discussions.
His agent is banned from representing any players on valid contracts the validation has to go to a 3rd party who didn’t travel with JCH. By the time it was emailed, ratified and sent back ready for JCH to sign and then submitted to the EFL missed the deadline by 4 seconds.
He said that if Jonno had said what he wanted when he was in the taxi rather than when he arrived they could have negotiated when in the car and had all the paperwork good to go.

What about an appeal heard other clubs have been successful using this option. Thanks for the quote didn’t see that before.

Official Club Statement. This morning an EFL representative confirmed that our contract application for Jonson Clarke-Harris was rejected. The outcome is a disappointing one for all involved however, everything possible was done to finalise the agreement and register the required documents with the EFL ahead of the deadline. We now look forward to today's game and the season ahead with the squad that we have built throughout this window. We would like to thank all fans for your continued support. The questions for me are: What are these changes that prevented the deal being completed? - The paperwork should have been ready for JCH to sign when he arrived. - If someone starts talking about changes, I'd say we have an agreement and you either stick to it or the deal is off - especially at such a late time. Were there really any changes? - ITB's chat with TG mentions changes, and an hour of discussion. Again, what are we discussing for an hour at such a late point?? TG says we missed by 4 seconds / DF says we could have asked for a 15 minute extension. - Who to believe? 4 seconds?? What the hell are we doing trying to get this deal done at such a late stage? - We should have moved on to another target before the final day. - If we've got £800k plus to spend there are surely other options we could have gone for.

So his agent can only act for players without a contract. Eh? Is this true? Bizarre if it is, and if it is, why wasn't BRFC aware of this? Sounds like a lot of scrabbling around and desperately trying not to come across as tin-pot and thoroughly unprofessional. What will Hussain think of all this? #newmanagementrequired

Let's say it was 8.30pm, then an hour of discussions, there were still 90 minutes left before deadline. Like I say, I don't like all this last minute stuff (becoming a common theme), but surely 90 minutes is enough time to get the paperwork in??

I wonder if it’s the complete opposite, now the deal was real and surmisable at last, could whoever’s money was being used to buy it have got cold feet? We have all been there haven’t we, hovering over a button on the computer that will buy it, and we don’t. I can think of numerous motors I was about to throw my money at, but never bought them, had second thoughts. two 400K signings could make a big difference in January. Or 4 200K signings 😄

No matter how this is presented it’s an utter s**t show, Laurel and Hardy on speed. I see we have a tent back on the South end for away support, perhaps a few elephants and one particular clown could be added to the billing considering the circus we continually find ourselves watching.

Watching on ifollow, only around 50 Lincoln sat in the Tent, entrance is from the front, saw a few Lincoln fans walking out of the tent, they were almost on the grass of the pitch, as you say a real Circus.

Strange no one had a problem in a pen and pencil era, or even a fax (remember them!?)...?
The deal not going through suits more than one party, and only time will tell whether us fans will be included in that...
