I’ve just read the “ official” official explanation for the JCH fiasco which has been posted by GH81/ITB on Gaschat after he (quite by chance) bumped into Tom Gorringe at the match today. No need to go into detail, five words will do, it was not Rovers fault. Again ! In case people haven't seen it, here's a copy & paste from ITB / GH1981's post on Gaschat... gashead1981 said:
This is what I was told today by Tom when I bumped into pre match.
He said they agreed a deal at 5:30pm verbally with JCH and P’boro.
Jonno arrived at 8-8:30pm and then changed what he wanted. They agreed terms which took an hour of discussions.
His agent is banned from representing any players on valid contracts the validation has to go to a 3rd party who didn’t travel with JCH. By the time it was emailed, ratified and sent back ready for JCH to sign and then submitted to the EFL missed the deadline by 4 seconds.
He said that if Jonno had said what he wanted when he was in the taxi rather than when he arrived they could have negotiated when in the car and had all the paperwork good to go.Thats exactly what I was told and before anyone thinks I have been sought out to relay this, which is the usual accusation, think again. I literally bumped into TG on the way back to my box after taking my 5 year old to the toilet about 5 mins before the start of the match and I asked what went on. As i said on the other side. No one comes out of this with much honour in terms of getting the deal done. DMAC is notoriously hard to deal with at the best of times, mainly, because he likes to smell like a bunch of roses on SM to keep up his veneer. However they knew JCH wanted to leave earlier in the week and is also transfer listed, so why make him part of the squad for this weekend and travel if he is expected to leave? That makes no sense. It makes even less sense for DF to include him in his starting 11 if thats the case. That's like us planning to start Ryan Loft or Belly. So JCH could have travelled directly to us earlier in the day and sorted out what needed to be sorted out. By the sounds of it we had already agreed agreed to terms and then he wanted different terms when he arrived late in the day. Do we say, of course JCH, we'll agree to anything, or do we have to renegotiate? It could be that he wouldnt have fitted into the wage structure, he was asking far too much or wanted a 4 year deal rather than a 3. Whatever he wanted it had to be renegotiated and then the contracts redrawn. Thats poor form from JCH in some ways and daft to leave it late on what is also a late transfer. Then there is us. If JCH is number 1 target, why are we dicking about at the 11th hour with it. We should have either paid agreed to what Pboro wanted earlier in the week and accepted the premium of getting him in early and into the team or moved on to someone who was another target. Does not having a club secretary contributed to this? Probably is the answer and just signs a light on other areas of professional failure or lack of care over the past few months. Why didnt we get on the phone and explain the situation and at least given ourselves a chance? I have been told (not from TG but another previous board member) that EFL registrations and contracts amount to around 25 pages and that if 1 term is not signed/done properly the whole contract is null and void and needs to be checked and double checked. So all of this just adds to the timeframe. The agent. Why is a banned agent still allowed to represent the player and use 3rd parties to sign contracts? It shouldnt be allowed. Is what we know between whats been said the truth and nothing but the truth? Unlikely, but it seems there many factors all which contributed to being a bit of a shambles on all fronts in the end.

Nice account for whatever reason it's not the club's fault....like you've implied, why didn't the club have a plan b to sign other targets and connected, why did they allow this situation to arise?
Nothing is ever the club's fault! I smell something very fishy...

Finding people who are defending the club at the moment is making me laugh.

Wtf!? Not a conspiracy, but you do hear of this with other clubs.....why can't the situation see jch mutually terminate his contract leaving him free to sign for who he wants? Obviously, with Peterborough in some way complicit.

Don't you just love conspiracy theories
Smoking gun spotted on the grassy Knole
Some say we may have dodged a bullet with JCH (pun intended)
Just need the full explanation from CEO
We had JFk now we have JCH

The big irony is JFK conspiracy makes more sense than the official version.... similarly, if you believe everything that comes out the club is the whole truth and nothing deceptive, I would be inclined to think you're naive.
Given that this situation has rarely if ever occurred before, little or no explanation reported, what other conclusions would you think most disappointed Gas would draw?

How a dramatic transfer deadline day unfolded as Peterborough United striker missed his move by 50 seconds..From the Peterborough Telegraph.
It was without doubt one of the most dramatic transfer deadline days in recent Peterborough United history.
Here’s a timeline of how it all unfolded.
September 1st - Deadline day...
9am The Posh squad had already set off for Portsmouth and a League One fixture the following day. The two players heavily tipped to leave London Road today, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Ronnie Edwards, were on the team bus. Back-up striker Kabomgo Tshimanga and transfer-listed defemder Joe Tomlinson were not.
9.30am The PT reveals Posh received close to £1 million from Brenford for Benjamin Arthur, a 17 year-old centre-back who had yet to break into a first-team squad.
10am The PT receives word from London Road that Edwards will probably leave, but Clarke-Harris is set to stay as no clubs have got near the Posh valuation. West Ham United were in negotiations for Edwards.
10.30am Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton said his side might not make any signings today amid rumours his club were willing to break a 31-year-old transfer record to sign Clarke-Harris. The PT dismiss this story as ‘unlikely.’
12.38pm Posh sell Tomlinson to League Two side MK Dons for an undisclosed fee. Tomlinson started three Football League games in two years at Posh. ‘MK is where I want to be,’ said Tomlinson.
1.05pm SKy Sports, in a less than decisive piece of reporting, say Championship side Swansea City 'might have had’ a bid for Edwards rejected.
1.30pm The PT learns there will be the announcement of a Posh sale and a signing around tea-time. “Hopefully we’ll then be able to go home early,” said an optimistic club official.
3pm Posh trained on the way down to Portsmouth. They had their usual team meeting. Clarke-Harris and Edwards were present. They were both due to start Saturday’s game.
5pm Just six transfers to League One clubs have been recorded.
5.15pm Make that seven, as Tshimanga has moved to Fleetwood Town on loan after failing to score in six playing months with Posh. In completely unrelated news Fleetwood sacked manager Scott Brown two days later.
5.19pm Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony is live on Sky Sports admitting his Bristol Rovers counterpart has been face-timing him re Clarke-Harris all day. He says no bids for any Posh player have been acceptable (apart from Tomlinson obviously). He also says he’s happy to keep Clarke-Harris and Edwards at the club if necessary.
5.30pm It went unreported at the time, but Posh accept a bid for Clarke-Harris from Bristol Rovers.
5.45pm Ferguson meets with Clarke-Harris and they mutually agree it’s best for the striker to move on. Clarke-Harris bids an emotional farewell to his manager and teammates and jumps in a taxi to Bristol.
8.30pm Talks between Clarke-Harris and Bristol Rovers went smoothly and a copy of the agreement was sent to the buying club.
9pm Bristol Rovers confirm transfer deal. It looks like Clarke-Harris will make his Rovers return.
9.45pm MacAnthony reveals last bid for Edwards included an offer to loan him straight back to Posh, but the chairman said ‘no deal.’
10.28pm Posh sign a striker, but it wasn’t the one expected to sign earlier in the day. Swindon striker Jacob Wakeling (21) agreed a three-year contract with the process completed while the player was on a team coach to Doncaster Rovers.
10.35pm Posh are getting twitchy about the Clarke-Harris deal. They’d expected the relevant paperwork to be lodged and accepted by now. Phone calls are made reminding Bristol Rovers they can apply for a 20-minute extension to the 11pm deadline.
10.50pm MacAnthony reveals transfer-listed defender Josh Knight will now be offered a new contract by Posh.
10.51pm MacAnthony confirms Edwards is staying, but Clarke-Harris expected to leave.
10.52pm Posh are told Clarke-Harris has still not been registered by Rovers. Confusion reigns. Bristol media report the fee for Clarke-Harris is £800k.
11.50pm Bristol media dramatically reveal the Clarke-Harris deal has collapsed as paperwork wasn’t lodged in time. It emerges Bristol Rovers didn’t even apply for the 20-minute extension. Posh are furious.
September 2nd
12.05am The PT is told Posh will not be commenting on the saga until later today.
12.30pm Posh reveal they have signed former Chelsea and Everton forward Malik Mothersille. He was technically a free agentm but compensation was paid to Chelsea.
1pm Bristol Rovers claim ‘late changes to the (Clarke-Harris) deal prevented it going through,’ but this is suspected to be an attempt to pass the blame on to an agent.
6pm It emerges Bristol Rovers missed the deadline to sign Clarke-Harris by 50 seconds...

Although it feels like we have missed out on the specific type of player who could have made other rovers players better - using strength to hold ball allows team to transition like get Collins into space - changing our mind and walking away might not prove a mistake at all in the fullness of time. Like I said before, I might have blown my budget on duff old motors if I hadn’t second thoughts many times in past. Can we expect to see some of this 800K + bonuses used in January and next summers market? When you think some of our better players in last decade, snake, sincs, etc we’re non league, and we payed little for them, with some money and good list of targets we can cherry pick the cream of divisions below us in next window?

Don't think you've got anything to worry about in your first para. And agree that all 3 parties are partly to blame for the whole thing. And even after all the delays, we still had 90 minutes to get the forms in, and we were reminded we could apply for an extension and didn't take it up. If he'd turned up asking to change things I'd have said we've made an agreement, if you want to play for us then sign it. But then again, I wouldn't have been chasing him on the final day.

This does sound as if the right hand wanted to do the deal but the left hand didnt. It makes you wonder if someone holding down a position of responsibility at the club took instruction from the left hand to find a reason not to proceed with the deal for whatever reason ? Can see plenty more of this type of thing happening in the future. One ball, one dog, two owners who think its their dog.

Listening to the podcast I picked out two key sentences.
" Wael, the previous owner, is a lovely guy"
" The new owner wants value for money"
Could it be that Wael was trying to please everyone and got carried away on a wave of emotion until Hussain stepped in and told Tom not to complete the deal ?

That could well be the case especially if TG keeps his job.

Surely stand fiasco and jch fiasco could be step too far for new owners?
Might be considering getting his own ceo and manager/coach in at the Mem ?

As per the other Thread "Who's running this outfit?". Until we get a clearer indication of who is actually responsible for making key decisions and in which key areas, We are going to get more of this muddled thinking and cock ups.

As per the other Thread "Who's running this outfit?". Until we get a clearer indication of who is actually responsible for making key decisions and in which key areas, We are going to get more of this muddled thinking and cock ups. MacAnthony said he had been told the new owner wanted to make some kind of statement of intent with this signing which could only have come from WAQ, JB, EJ or TG. But from the way the negotiations were conducted I do wonder if that is somewhat misleading and whether Hussain actually sanctioned the initial £300K bid and perhaps a two year contract but then the enthusiasm of the others involved got the better of them and it was they who agreed to ratchet it up first to £500K and then to £ 800K with a three year contract. In money terms the implications of that would be for Rovers, in two days, to have gone from making a total commitment of about £800K to nearly doubling that to a commitment of about £ 1.55 million. This would mean absolutely nothing to those without any sort of financial discipline who are used to spending in an uncontrolled way but would mean a great deal to someone who is experienced in building businesses through detailed planning and careful financial calculation.
