Options were for Peterborough United owner he stays or go on loan with view to a permanent transfer
wait till January with just 6 months left on his contract and then sale for £250k
accept an offer of £800k in installments and adds on and if 20 goals scored another £200k
or stay till 30 June and move on a free transfer to Saudi Arabia or another club anywhere in the World.

Surprised no-one prised Macaulay Langstaff out of Notts County. If we wanted to gamble £800K on a striker would have preferred it to havd been on him

Not understanding most of that but, Saudi window still open. Loan window in efl closed.

There was all week to get this sorted. Can imagine Posh were trying to make Rovers desperate and therefore increase the fee.
Personally, if the fee was £800k, I think that was too high for the player and too high for us.
Am not in favour of this splash the cash to be in the promotion race. One imagines our wage bill has already increased with the experienced signings.
We still have no real idea about the wealth of the owners or what their real plans are.
On the plus note we appear to have got a fee for Loft, again no idea if it covers what we paid for him.

Transfer always felt a bit off to me as of it was willed into existence by a few fans and the club decided to run with it and have a go rather than being a strategic target. More interesting/concerning to me was did we have any other targets in mind, that we may have missed out on trying to make the JCH deal happen

He was too good for that team. However, he also appears to be too good for L1 but not good enough for the championship. I have a nagging suspicion this may have been a PR stunt. The fact that MacAnthony openly identified Wael at an early stage (which is quite unusual in transfer dealings), the highly publicized nature of the bid (including MacAnthony's 'teasing' on social media)and the convergence of Barton and MacAnthony around a shared imperative of perpetual and never-ending media exposure makes me think this could well be the case. It also offers Barton a convenient excuse if he doesn’t deliver a good season this time around - the club didn’t back me. Feels awfully like another gambler’s fix - if I only had X i’d be able to forge a winning team. A good manager would get the best from the hand they hold not twist at every opportunity It did spring to mind.

For me JCH was the missing piece of the jigsaw - Disappointed! You’ve taken the bait Toteend. Barton doesn’t know which jigsaw he is building imho. This window it will be X piece missing. Next window it will be Y and the one after that Z. Meanwhile he will yeet a handful of pieces to the four winds at each opportunity. We end up with a box of random bits with no picture to assemble it with. JCH may have made a difference to us but there is also every possibility his talent is on the wane and he looked at us as a last(ish) payday. You have to ask yourself why Peterborough were willing to let him go, why he would want to come to us instead of stay and whether or not £800k+ could be used to better effect elsewhere Gasheads have this strange nostalgia and yearning to go back with our players rather than look forward to new horizons. It’s almost as if we think they have the same affinity for the club that we do and that things will be the same as before even though we may have had the best of them first time around

JB did however, engineer one of the most remarkable football achievements ever witnessed with the 7-0 promotion victory - He also thinks outside the box and makes some very interesting footballing observations about the game in general.
There again you might be right!

JB did however, engineer one of the most remarkable football achievements ever witnessed with the 7-0 promotion victory - He also thinks outside the box and makes some very interesting footballing observations about the game in general. There again you might be right! The Scunny game was one of those once in a lifetime games where all the stars aligned and for once everything went our way. Barton does deserve credit for this and also for the run in that season from about Jan onwards when we looked invincible. For me the secret to that was minimal changes especially with the spine of the team. The rest of his time with us has been mediocre at best. He is a complex character and not everything he does is terrible. In my opinion though where he loses it is when he overthinks things and when he starts to believe his own publicity that he is a genius. I do think he has an eye for a player (but like Basil Atkins doesn’t know how to get the best out of them) and i like that he sets high standards around fitness and wanting to improve. His negatives though sometimes make this hard to see. A bit like his public utterings too. I agree with some of the things he says but it is also surrounded by a load of cod psychology bollocks and nonsense. Perhaps not so different from the rest of us but we don’t have the public profile of BRFC manager whereas he does. You equally could be right about him too!!!🙂

Official Club Statement.
This morning an EFL representative confirmed that our contract application for Jonson Clarke-Harris was rejected.
The club had worked throughout the day to agree terms with Peterborough, the player and his representatives, however, late changes to the deal prevented it being completed.
The outcome is a disappointing one for all involved however, everything possible was done to finalise the agreement and register the required documents with the EFL ahead of the deadline.
We now look forward to today's game and the season ahead with the squad that we have built throughout this window.
We would like to thank all fans for your continued support.

This is certainly a strange one. Folklore stuff “the transfer deadline day we had million pound deal, and didn’t get the papers in in time”?

One Bristol club sells its best player for millions and then brought in an unknown right-back from West Brom, while another throws itself into a white-knuckle 800,000 GBP pursuit of one of the best players in L1 that tantalisingly falls through at the last minute.
All things considered, we have had much more fun during this transfer window than our friends across the river...
As I recall, when we sold our players for millions, we at least brought in replacements for up to 250,000 GBP. City truly are in a bad state if they can't do that....

Someone should lose their job for this.
Letting loft leave without jch being tied up is shocking.
We have also announced that we are willing to part with a considerable sum of money which will inflate future purchases.
No idea what the loan criteria is, but if we can get him on loan at any time during season then it needs to happen sharpish.

If Rovers have £800 000 available I’d suggest some of it is allocated to satisfying the planning conditions set by South Glos Council when permission was granted to develop the training ground.
This isn’t something which is optional it’s a legal requirement and by not complying we are storing up trouble for the future.

I’ve just read the “ official” official explanation for the JCH fiasco which has been posted by GH81/ITB on Gaschat after he (quite by chance) bumped into Tom Gorringe at the match today.
No need to go into detail, five words will do, it was not Rovers fault.
Again !
