West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell says it is "up to us to react" after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Bristol City in the third round.

The Hammers - without key trio Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus - struggled to create clear chances and had Said Benrahma sent off early in the second half.

"Credit to Bristol City, but we know we weren’t good enough and it’s up to us to react now," Cresswell said.

"We wanted to go as far as possible in the FA Cup - as we do in every competition we play in - so we’re all gutted we’re out.

"We’ll go back to the training ground and do what we can to make sure we’re ready for Sunday now. We have another big game back in the Premier League, and hopefully we can come back from that with the right result.

"I felt the sending-off changed the game. I haven’t seen it back so I’m not sure whether or not it should’ve been a red card, but it did have an impact.

"Throughout the game we could have done more and been in better positions at times, but I felt we were somewhat in control until then. After that, we couldn’t really get going and we found it difficult."

Sheffield United's Oli McBurnie scored the latest ever goal in the Premier League, dispatching a 103rd-minute penalty to rescue a point for Sheffield United against West Ham.
Sheffield United were awarded the spot-kick in the 98th minute when Hammers keeper Alphonse Areola took out McBurnie.
And having been made to wait to take it, the forward smashed his effort beyond substitute stopper Lukasz Fabianski with Areola forced to leave the pitch after receiving treatment.
West Ham had been cruising towards a 2-1 victory after James Ward-Prowse's successful penalty in the 79th minute.
Maxwel Cornet had given the Hammers a first-half lead with his first goal for the club before Ben Brereton Diaz equalised on the stroke of half-time on his Premier League debut.
In second-half injury time, the match intensified with two red cards and two penalty shouts.
Sheffield United substitute Rhian Brewster was sent off after video assistant referee intervention (VAR) for a high, late tackle on Emerson.
And Vladimir Coufal was given a yellow card for demanding Brewster's sending off, before receiving a second booking minutes later for a cynical trip.
The drama continued even after the Blades' late equaliser, with the Hammers wanting a late penalty of their own after Jarrod Bowen went down in the area.

At full-time, sections of the West Ham fanbase were questioning manager David Moyes' position on social media.
West Ham are winless in their past four matches and were knocked out of the FA Cup last week but they are still sixth in the league table and remain in Europe having won the Europa Conference League last term.
Moyes' decision to replace winger Cornet with full-back Ben Johnson was met with boos and chants of "you don't know what you're doing" by some visiting supporters midway through the second half.
But, despite rumblings of discontent from the away end, victory looked almost certain up until Coufal's 97th-minute red card which made the fixture 10 versus 10.
And in the final seconds Bowen and Sheffield United defender Anel Ahmedhodzic clashed in the area trying to reach Ben Johnson's cross, but the Hammers forward was penalised for handball with West Ham players certain they should have been awarded a second penalty.

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to BBC Match of the Day:
"Disappointed in the end because we should have comfortably got ourselves three points today. I see it as two points dropped.
"Look, I'm not going to come out and say much because we're the ones who would get in trouble. We'd like to, but we're getting to a stage now where the managers, we're seeing a level of officiating where we're shrugging our shoulders and saying, 'this is what we're getting now'.
"We should have done better, we had 11 v 10 and we got caught in midfield to go down to 10. We were a little bit late in the challenge which I don't think was enough for a booking but it warranted one, the referee thought so and that's all we can do.
"So, 10 v 10 should still be fine, we shouldn't concede at that point. I'm not sure the decision was correct, but other people will have other thoughts on it.
"We were so poor, probably as bad as we have been with the ball. It was another call which did go against us which, on another day, could have gone for us and we could have come away as winners and we'd be talking a lot more positively.
"Our standards are not where we want them to be."


West Ham manager David Moyes on TNT Sports:
"We should never have got ourselves red carded, we got caught on the ball in midfield.
"Really, we had the chances to win, we had great chances to make it 3-0.
"We went down to 10 v 10 in the last minute but even so that wasn't a problem, we should have defended it.
"We defend as well as we could have done and a couple of decisions didn't go our way.
"It was not good, probably our worst performance of the season as far as quality on the ball and quality of decisions.
"I wouldn't like to blame the pitch but the pitch was quite hard, but I'd only be making excuses if I'd done that. That may be a reason for some of the poor passing in the first half.
"We're disappointed, we feel as if things have gone against us. We'll only blame ourselves but ultimately we could look at other people as well."

Kalvin Phillips transfer news: West Ham agree loan deal with Manchester City for England midfielder..

West Ham have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan for the rest of the season.

Phillips, 28, signed a six-year contract when he arrived at City from Leeds in a £45m deal in July 2022.

However, he has struggled under Pep Guardiola and has only started twice this term in all competitions.

Phillips, who is also interesting Juventus, now appears set to have a medical in London later this week.

Personal terms are not expected to be a problem, with the Hammers set to cover Phillips' salary and there will be an option to make the move permanent.

Numerous clubs had expressed an interest in the player but City's demand for a sizable loan fee has dissuaded clubs such as Newcastle from pursuing Phillips.

Phillips, who remains a member of Gareth Southgate's England squad, is flying back to the UK today with the rest of the City squad from a warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi.

The temporary recruitment of Phillips will come as a boost to Hammers boss David Moyes, who has been eager to strengthen a squad weakened by a succession of injuries.

Meanwhile, Phillips, who has started just two games in the English top flight in 18 months, is likely to view it as an opportunity to showcase his talents prior to this summer's European Championship in Germany.

Mike: Pleased. This would be a great option, and it's the one he should have taken two years ago. He was only ever going to be a squad player at City. Moyes had a plan for him to be an integral part of the team. He chose to chase money and glory and it didn't work out.

Jillian: Philips is a great signing. However, if Moyes resorts to the usual 'bedding in' nonsense, I wonder how much game time he'll really get by the end of the season.

Mel: I think the loan move is good for all parties. Kalvin gets game time and basically is in the shop window for all clubs to judge him. West Ham may benefit as a result and it may mean that his value increases if he is sold at the end of the season.

Brian: Great news, he hasn't been given a chance at City to really prove himself. He will certainly get that at West Ham, just hope he is not too injury prone. With him alongside Alvarez, this will be a strong midfield for us. Looking forward to seeing him.

James: As a West Ham fan, we are buzzing with this deal. Low risk for us, especially if correct about the option to buy in the summer, which avoids the Lingard situation from a few years ago. Nobody seriously describes us as rivals to City, but credit to them for being open to selling/loaning to strengthen other teams in the league. Great move for player and both clubs.

West Bromwich Albion have signed Northern Ireland striker Callum Marshall on loan from West Ham United.

The 19-year-old made his senior Hammers debut in their FA Cup defeat by Bristol City earlier this month.

He has 19 goals for the Premier League side's under-21 team this season.

Meanwhile, Albion winger Tom Fellows has signed a new deal with the Championship club until 2027, having made 17 appearances this season and scored in his past two games.

The 20-year-old came through the club's academy and was given his first-team debut in 2021, before spending last season on loan at Crawley Town.

"I feel like I can keep getting minutes here and for someone my age, I think the only way you get better is by playing games and being around the senior environment. Hopefully I can keep doing that," he told the club website.

West Brom, fifth in the Championship table, are at home to Black Country rivals Wolves in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Marshall is cup-tied so will not be able to feature in the match, but said of his move: "I know the team are flying - I've watched a few games from my digs in London. Carlos [Corberan] seems like a top coach and I'm really excited to get working under him."

Benrahma signed for West Ham from Brentford in 2020, in a deal rising to £30m

West Ham have accepted an offer from Lyon to sign winger Said Benrahma on loan until the end of the season.

If the deal goes through, it would include an obligation to buy for £15m, with the final decision now in the 28-year-old Algerian's hands.

Benrahma joined West Ham from Brentford in October 2020 and his current deal runs to 2026.

But he has been an inconsistent performer during his three years with the Hammers.

He started last season's Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina and scored the opening goal from the penalty spot in West Ham's momentous 2-1 win.

However, Benrahma has failed to find the net in 22 appearances this season and was sent off in the FA Cup replay defeat at Bristol City on 16 January.

He was controversially left out of Algeria's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Meanwhile, West Ham have rejected a bid from Real Betis for Spain midfielder Pablo Fornals.

A second offer is expected, with West Ham willing to let Fornals leave given he has started just four Premier League games this season.

West Ham boss David Moyes hopes Kalvin Phillips can have a similar impact to Jesse Lingard at the club.

England midfielder Phillips has joined the Hammers on loan from Manchester City for the rest of the season

Lingard scored nine goals in 16 league matches to help West Ham finish sixth after signing on loan from Manchester United in January 2021.

"This time a couple of years ago we got Jesse Lingard, he really helped us," said Moyes.

"I'm hoping Kalvin can have a similar impact as what Jesse had."

Defensive midfielder Phillips, 28, struggled for first-team football at City after signing for the club from Leeds United in a £45m deal in July 2022.

He made just two starts and 16 Premier League appearances in total during his 18 months at City, although continued to be picked by England manager Gareth Southgate.

"His pedigree over the years has made me feel he's a player I'd like to have at the club," said Moyes.

"For some time he's been a mainstay of the England national team. He's someone who has been a really good player. The move to City hasn't worked as well as he would have liked."

West Ham are sixth in the Premier League this season and Phillips could make his debut for the club against Bournemouth on Thursday.

"Everybody has something to prove," added Moyes. "Jesse had something to prove and Kalvin has as well.

"There is a big competition at the end of the season where he'll be hoping to be in good form.

"We're talking about a boy with really good character. I think he's got a chance now to get himself back on track. We've brought in another England international to our squad and that's a big plus."

John: Everybody knows we need to make at least two signings. A striker is a must as relying on Danny Ings is wishful thinking. No doubt we will end up with no new signings apart from loans. If we let players go then we are going to be desperately thin on the ground, knowing Moyes' reluctance to play his youngsters.

John: My dream deadline day would be a left-winger coming in to replace Said Benrahma to help us continue this great momentum the club is continuing to build post-Covid. Plus of course, three points against Bournemouth on deadline night.

Pep: I would like to see Benrahma, Pablo Fornals, Ings and Maxwel Cornet sold, with two proven strikers bought in. Also let Divin Mubama go out on loan to get some playing time after he signs a new deal.

Mike: It was great getting Kalvin Phillips as he deserves to keep his England spot. I just hope the centre-backs are in the right head space for the rest of the season and that the fringe players try to step up to the plate.

Luke: I'd like to say offload Ings, Benny, and Fornals... however, we have quite a depleted squad anyway. If we are going to progress further in Europe and stay fighting for Europe for next season, we have to bring some players in. Can't just rely on Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta.

Steve: IMO we need a striker who knows where the goal is, a winger that can cross a ball, like Devonshire and 3 points just before the window shuts...
