Shaka Hislop - Former West Ham United Goalkeeper 'conscious' after collapsing on air in California..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1241B/production/_130497747_gettyimages-1397574570.jpg Hislop played in England for West Ham, Reading, Newcastle and Portsmouth
Former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop is conscious and recovering after collapsing on air before Sunday's friendly between Real Madrid and AC Milan in California. The 54-year-old was working as an analyst for US broadcaster ESPN. He stumbled and fell to the ground face forwards during a pre-match pitch-side interview at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Dan Thomas, presenting alongside Hislop, called for assistance as the channel cut for a commercial break. Temperatures in California on Sunday were reported to be about 30C, but it is unclear if heat was a factor in Hislop's collapse. In an update at half-time, Thomas said: "My mate, Shaka, not here, but as it stands, it's good news. "He's conscious. He's talking. I think he's a little embarrassed about it all. He's apologised profusely. Not a man who likes people to make a fuss of him. "Obviously far too early to make any sort of diagnosis, but the important thing is that Shaka's conscious and we spoke to his family as well, because you imagine seeing that happen live." Hislop played 121 games for West Ham in two spells from 1998 to 2002 and 2005 to 2006. He won 26 caps for Trinidad and Tobago.

Conor Gallagher: Chelsea reject bid from West Ham..By Alex Howell, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B3B1/production/_130510064_conor_gallagher_getty2.jpgConor has played in 174 career games, scoring 19 goals..
Chelsea have rejected a bid from West Ham for England midfielder Conor Gallagher worth a reported £40m. Gallagher, 23, has two years left on his contract and is currently on the club's pre-season tour of the USA. The Chelsea academy graduate enjoyed a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace in 2021-22, winning player of the season and making his England debut. He made his Chelsea debut last season and went on to score three goals in 45 appearances. Chelsea's ownership group has been trying to avoid letting players enter the last two years of their contracts, a situation that played out with Mason Mount's £55m move to Manchester United. Chelsea like Gallagher but accept there is a chance he could leave.

Uefa fines AZ Alkmaar for fan trouble at European tie with West Ham..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1821F/production/_129774889_gettyimages-1255962913.jpgAZ Alkmaar have been fined 80,000 euros (£68,670) for the behaviour of their fans at their Europa Conference League semi-final second leg match against West Ham in May. The Hammers, who won 3-1 on aggregate, went on to win the tournament. During that game at the AFAS Stadion in the Netherlands, AZ fans attacked an area in which West Ham players' friends and family were seated. Players tried to intervene to protect their family members. Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma were among those who tried to step in, moments after the Premier League team had reached the final. The Dutch club gave stadium bans to 43 fans, and several arrests were made after an appeal was made on television. AZ, who are in the Europa Conference League again this season, have been ordered to play one Uefa match behind closed doors, although that sanction has been suspended for two years. Their fine has been broken down as £6,115 for throwing of objects, £12,870 for lighting fireworks, £6,867 for blocking public passageways and £42,918 for crowd disturbances and failure to ensure that spectators cannot move from one sector to another.

Harry Maguire: Manchester United reject £20m West Ham bid for England defender..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8595/production/_130579143_gettyimages-1573204040.jpg Harry Maguire was stripped of the Manchester United captaincy by manager Erik ten Hag earlier this monthManchester United have rejected a £20m bid from West Ham for England defender Harry Maguire. Hammers boss David Moyes is keen on Maguire and has funds to spend following the £100m sale of England midfielder Declan Rice. Maguire's Old Trafford future is uncertain after he was stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag earlier this month. The Dutchman has said the move could help the 30-year-old regain his form. United would be prepared to listen to offers that matched their valuation - if Maguire indicated a willingness to leave. However, the centre-back is believed to currently be earning £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford, which is significantly more than the highest earner at West Ham. Maguire was appointed skipper by Ten Hag's predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2020 - five months after signing for £80m from Leicester City. The England international, who has 57 international caps, said he was "extremely disappointed" to lose the armband but would "continue to give my all" in the shirt. Maguire played in 31 of the club's 62 matches in all competitions during the 2022-23 season, including eight Premier League starts, with Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes captain in his absence. Maguire's contract at Old Trafford ends in 2025.

West Ham are expected to agree a deal for Ward-Prowse with a bid closer to Southampton's £40m valuation. Ajax have hijacked West Ham's £14m pursuit of Manchester City's 19-year-old Portuguese winger Carlos Borges. Everton could move for West Ham's 33-year-old Jamaica striker Michail Antonio after he failed to secure a move to Saudi Arabia.

West Ham tensions..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
West Ham are still to make a signing of note this summer despite selling Declan Rice for up to £105m to Arsenal.
It is understood there is tension behind the scenes at the London Stadium as manager David Moyes is looking at targets that don't align with new director of football Tim Steidten.
The Premier League stars Moyes is believed to favour - there has been interest in Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and James Ward-Prowse - are proving difficult to secure at the right prices.
With a week to go before the opening league game and another European campaign in front of them, it is not the ideal scenario for the Hammers, who ended last season on such a high with their Europa Conference League triumph.

Is Rice fee the issue in West Ham transfer window struggles ?..by Nicola Pearson, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/4/35d35d19-2e03-421c-9900-9db5b15eb71e.jpgWest Ham have a well documented £100m burning a hole in their pocket and yet, they are the only team in the Premier League not to have made a first team signing this summer. Declan Rice's departure had been on the cards for a number of transfer windows and was all but confirmed by chairman David Sullivan after their Europa Conference League victory. The Hammers proved to be tough negotiators and weren't going to let their prized asset leave for less than they deemed him worth, turning down two offers from Arsenal and one from Manchester City before finally agreeing a deal with the north London side. But are the funds other clubs know West Ham have hindering them in bringing in players ?..It's not like they haven't tried. Since Rice completed his move to Arsenal, West Ham have reportedly had a £45m bid rejected for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, a £40m offer turned down for Chelsea's Connor Gallagher, £20m rejected for Manchester United's Harry Maguire and are now understood to be walking away from a deal to sign Southampton's James Ward-Prowse after a second bid was also turned down. On the one hand, the issue could simply be that the Hammers are chasing players that clubs don't want or need to sell. But, in an already inflated transfer market, there is the chance that other clubs will be increasing the value of their players in the knowledge that West Ham have the Rice transfer income to spend. West Ham's need to find replacements looks all the more pronounced given former Hammer Joe Cole previously said "everything good that West Ham do goes through" Rice. Time is still on the east London club's side however, with four weeks remaining in the transfer window and options such as Ajax's Edson Alvarez still on the table. London rivals Chelsea have had to be prepared to sell players for less than they might be worth in their need to get wages off the books and in contrast the Hammers may have to be prepared to pay more than their board had hoped in the pursuit of replacing their former captain before the window shuts on 1st September.

West Ham United are thrashed in friendly v Bayer Leverkusen..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/543E/production/_130666512_gettyimages-1549447778.jpg Manager David MoyesWest Ham were thrashed 4-0 by Bayer Leverkusen in their final pre-season friendly, while new Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was lobbed from the centre circle against RC Lens. Growing unease among fans about West Ham's lack of signings will only have been heightened by their side's defeat. There is understood to be a difference of opinion between manager David Moyes and technical director Tim Steidten. A total of 13 Premier League teams were in pre-season action on Saturday. The thrashing by German side Leverkusen - who were 3-0 up at half-time - will increase the scrutiny on Moyes' side before next Saturday's first league game at Bournemouth. Moyes is thought to favour established Premier League players, such as James Ward-Prowse, Chelsea's Conor Gallagher and Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. However, West Ham believe they are too expensive and Steidten has suggested other options. The Hammers believe any tensions that do exist will settle down once the season starts, but results like this will increase the demand to spend some of the £105m raised from the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal last month. Talks are thought to be at an advanced stage over signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, who was outstanding in Mexico's Gold Cup final triumph against Panama in Los Angeles earlier this month, although no deal has been finalised yet. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/ef70/live/b4ecebf0-339a-11ee-ba55-3bd963c970a8.jpg

West Ham United are keen to sign Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay from Manchester United..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4338/production/_130680271_scott.jpg Scott McTominay (centre) made his Manchester United debut in 2017 while Harry Maguire moved to Old Trafford for £80m from Leicester City in 2019West Ham are keen on Manchester United pair Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay as they look to bolster David Moyes' squad. The Hammers are yet to make a signing this summer despite selling Declan Rice to Arsenal in a deal that could end up being worth £105m. The club are in advanced talks with Ajax over Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez but after Saturday's 4-0 defeat by Bayer Leverkusen, there is greater momentum behind their recruitment drive. Whether West Ham can reach either the fee or salary to conclude a deal is open to question. It is understood United would be open to a deal but both England defender Maguire, 30, and Scotland midfielder McTominay, 26, are part of Erik ten Hag's squad and the club know they would need replacements for either if they were sold.

West Ham bid above £50m for Man Utd pair Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11F5B/production/_130436537_gettyimages-1474620556.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A75C/production/_108344824_mctominay_rex2.jpgWest Ham have made a combined bid worth more than £50m for Manchester United's Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. The Hammers have yet to make a signing this summer despite selling Declan Rice to Arsenal in a deal that could end up being worth £105m. They are also in advanced talks with Ajax over 25-year-old Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez. Meanwhile, Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca, 24, has left the club to join Atalanta for an undisclosed fee. After Saturday's 4-0 defeat by Bayer Leverkusen, there is greater momentum behind the Hammers' recruitment drive. Whether West Ham can reach either the fee or salary requirements to conclude a deal for the Manchester United pair is open to question. It is understood United would be open to a deal, but both England defender Maguire, 30, and Scotland midfielder McTominay, 26, are part of Erik ten Hag's squad and the club know they would need replacements for either if they were sold. Scamacca spent one season with the Hammers having joined on a five-year contract from Sassuolo for £30.5m last July. He made 27 appearances and scored eight goals, including five strikes in their victorious Europa Conference League campaign.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/c419/live/47c62650-33cb-11ee-bde6-7ffba94c56ae.pngWhy does nobody seem to want to join West Ham ?..by Simon Stone, BBC Sport.I think West Ham are an attractive club but they are caught in a tricky position. After successive European campaigns – and a trophy – they have got themselves to a certain level when it comes to recruitment. Those players cost a lot of money. If you buy from the Premier League, it costs even more. It feels like West Ham are one of the clubs who might lose out due to the money being offered in the Saudi Pro-League. It is easy to see some of the players who have moved over there being of value to West Ham. But the Hammers will not get close to those kinds of salaries. It means they have to either take a risk on untested players from overseas, or spend more on players with experience in England. Why didn't we make signings before the Declan Rice money left us held to ransom ?ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/585b/live/35929d50-33cc-11ee-af8f-91e85ea31cf4.jpgThis all comes down to negotiation doesn’t it ? If you spend money you have not got, that reduces your negotiating position regarding the player you want to sell because the buying club know you have to do a deal. West Ham presumably reasoned if they got the best price they could for Declan Rice, they could spend the money more easily. What they probably did not bargain for was the lack of consensus over who to spend it on. Man Utd open to a double deal...West Ham are keen on Manchester United pair Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay as they look to bolster David Moyes’ squad. The Hammers are yet to make a signing this summer despite selling skipper Declan Rice to Arsenal in a deal that could end up being worth £105m.
