Paqueta's £85m West Ham release clause becomes active in June and Manchester City do not expect personal terms to be an issue. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted England defender Harry Maguire, 31, wants to play more regularly, with interest from West Ham.

David Moyes spoke to BBC Match of the Day after West Ham's defeat to Fulham: "I thought we started really well, for the first 20-25 minutes we played well. In the main, we had done some good stuff but ultimately didn't have enough to get a win. "We lacked a little bit of energy as the game went on and the second goal was a killer for us. "The difficult part is going Thursday to Sunday, Sunday to Thursday you have more time and I hope we have a chance to do it again, we are enjoying it." West Ham boss David Moyes speaking to Sky Sports, on George Earthy's injury: "It's been a head injury, he is awake and on his way to hospital. His first three or four touches were terrific, really disappointed for the boy. He has been doing ever so well in training. We will all look after him." Report By Emily Salley, BBC Sport.West Ham are searching for their fourth successive season of European football, but today's performance against Fulham shows that may prove difficult. The despair of fans could be seen clearly by the mass of empty seats in London Stadium when the full-time whistle went. Fulham appeared to have more desire and drive to push forward and looked dangerous every time they did so, exposing the gaps left by West Ham's defence. The Hammers are desperately missing top scorer Jarrod Bowen, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings squandering the few chances they had. Antonio should have netted an early opener, while Ings should have equalised before the break when he found himself unmarked in the box. It was another lacklustre performance that piles the pressure on manager David Moyes and dents the team's confidence for Thursday's second-leg Europa League tie. West Ham stand no chance against newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen if they have a repeat of today's showing.

Here are some of your answers:
West Ham fansIan: Thought we started OK and Antonio should score from six yards. They score from a mistake and then sat back. As the game progressed we looked tired and short of ideas. Our lack of depth in the squad is really showing. Earthy looked good on his debut and hope the head injury isn’t serious. Saw him at Borehamwood pre-season and looks like a good prospect. Josh: A really disappointing loss. It was an opportunity to win but the team looked tired and leggy after so many Thursday - Sunday weeks. We’ve played more games than Fulham this season and it showed. The lack of squad depth compared to the teams around us also showed. Need to strengthen significantly this summer if we are to continue to move forward. Martin: No energy, no game plan, no fight. Spent most of our possession on the left wing playing tippy-tappy football before Paqueta gave the ball away. Defence was poor. Antonio was our only chance of a goal and he was hugging the left touchline all second half, very strange. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c2/West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg/175px-West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg.png

West Ham's George Earthy leaves hospital after head injury..

The 19-year-old collided with team-mate Edson Alvarez shortly after coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat. Midfielder Earthy received medical attention for about seven minutes before being carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital. "George is back home," said West Ham performance director Richard Collinge. "We will continue to monitor him over the coming days as he completes the graduated return to play programme." West Ham said Earthy, who made his Premier League debut for the Hammers in the game against Fulham on Sunday, would follow Football Association and Premier League concussion guidelines before returning to play.

David Moyes' side are aiming to come back from a 2-0 deficit from their first leg and inflict defeat on the Bundesliga champions for the first time this season. "They are in a very strong position when it comes to the confidence of the team, with them being unbeaten in the league and already crowned German champions," Fabianski said in the pre-match news conference. "They are a very good side. They have proved that in the whole season but I would say we have to believe." The former Poland international believes West Ham can use their previous European experiences, having won the Europa Conference League last season. Jarrod Bowen, who scored in the final, is back in training and Fabianski believes he boosts their chance of making the next round. "We have experienced already some games under pressure when it comes to European competitions - in the previous rounds and in the previous years," he added. "We have managed to create some special magical evenings so hopefully tomorrow will be a similar situation. "We want to have as big a group as we can because we have really good players within the team and within the squad so while Jarrod is obviously a really important player for us we will see how it goes tomorrow but hopefully he will be able to help us as well."

In response to David Moyes hoping they had been consuming "a few of those big German beers," Alonso said: "A few but not too many! "We had some control in order to get ready for the game. It was a moment to enjoy but now it is about what is coming and that is West Ham. "When you come to England you know the supporters will push the team on. It will be an electrifying atmosphere, so it will have all the ingredients for a special night." Unbeaten in all competitions this season, Bayer Leverkusen remain on course for a remarkable Treble in Alonso's first full season in charge, with the German Cup and Europa League still in their sights. "From Tuesday our focus and our mind has been on the game," added Alonso. "Now is the time as we have a great opportunity to make a great season. So far it has been very good but it can get even better."

Bowen, 27, missed the 2-0 first-leg defeat and last week's Premier League match with Fulham with a hip injury. The England international, who has 19 goals in all competitions this season, returned to training on Wednesday. "It was great to see Jarrod out there," said Moyes. "I would never risk a player if I thought they were injured but you always want your best players back in, your goalscorers as well, and Jarrod has been that this season." Moyes added that Bowen's return would "give us and the crowd a real lift" as his side look to come from behind to reach a European semi-final for the second straight season. The Hammers will, however, be without suspended midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen ( 1-3 on aggregate): What David Moyes Said..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/115f/live/fa8be120-fe1a-11ee-be15-6138ea90ccdd.jpgWest Ham manager David Moyes, speaking after Bayer Leverkusen knocked the Hammers out of the Europa League: "It was a brilliant team performance, I have to say over the two games. "We played a really good team and we had chances to be two or three up. I couldn't fault the players at all. If I was going out of Europe, I wanted to go out like that." Reporter: "I was reflecting on the three years you have had in Europe and the moments you have given these fans..." Moyes: "We have been in three quarter-finals, won two and were narrowly close tonight. The supporters have been treated to big nights against Alkmaar and Sevilla. Leverkusen are a Champions League team and play that way. We have had three fabulous years and we are hoping we can make it four." Moyes has been in the game too long not to realise questions will keep being asked about his future until a decision is made. He is also aware some West Ham fans would prefer he left the club, largely because of what they perceive to be negative tactics. Moyes' side are 8th in the Premier League, and will almost certainly need to climb to 7th to secure European football for a 4th successive season. That will not be easy as they have played more matches than all the teams around them and their final five opponents include Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City. Moyes, who felt his side should have been further ahead at half-time, was vexed by the performance of the Spanish referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez. The West Ham manager, though, was uncomfortable being asked to articulate a view he felt many of the media present would agree with. "I will turn the question round and ask you what you thought about the officiating," he said. When the questioner changed the subject. Moyes replied: "I am asking you." Upon being told "the fans" weren't impressed, Moyes asked: "Are you a fan or just reporting?" If that is how it is, I wouldn't be watching too many Spanish games."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/f06f/live/1c45b3d0-fe21-11ee-a9f7-4d961743aa47.jpgWe asked you for your thoughts on West Ham's Europa League quarter-final defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
Here are some of your comments:
Ian: I thought we gave it everything and the lack of squad depth showed as the players were exhausted. The referee was a mystery and it feels like he only wanted one team to progress. Credit to the team, they gave it everything but two goals down was too much to recover. Leverkusen are a good team and we pushed them all the way. I'm proud of my team! Harry: I have never seen West Ham play like they did in the first half. It was an incredible performance which goes to show what we could do if we had a better suited manager. Moyes messed it up in the second half with late substitutes once again and he took off Alvarez, who was too good to take off. Moyes has ruined our European hopes and I am beyond gutted. Yacob: We showed that when we attack, we can unsettle even the best. The tie was lost through over-defensive tactics last week and wasting the creativity of Paqueta, Kudus and Emerson. The Fornals and Benrahma departures have weakened us, but Moyes' substitutions were much less proactive and impactful than those Alonso chose to make. John: I cannot fault the effort of the players. If David Moyes played like that every week, we wouldn't be questioning him about getting another deal. However, last night showed his recruiting policy is nothing but criminal. A good starting XI but that is it. Our bench is poor and, when we ran out of steam, he couldn't bring anyone on to help. Thanks for the memories. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2318/live/70493af0-fe45-11ee-97f7-e98b193ef1b8.jpgupload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c2/West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg/175px-West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg.png

It was more than 30 minutes but the first 30 minutes really was atrocious "We didn't play well, we didn't defend wel, which was was a big thing really. "We got we deserved and we just didn't really turn up. On whether playing in Europe on Thursday was a factor: "I make no excuses whatsoever nothing anything. We got praise for our performance in midweek and I praised the players for their performance but I'm certainly not not praising them for anything today "We were we were so so poor, ridiculously poor. To be a Premier League club you've got to have a bit about you and a lot of games that are difficult. "This was always gonna be a difficult game. Crystal Palace had done well last week and we had to make sure that we we got into the game and gave ourselves a chance we were so, so bad." West Ham to decide Moyes' future at end of season ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/06d1/live/fdedbcb0-007e-11ef-b6a6-9d941b13ca77.jpg Report by Simon Stone, Chief football news reporter.West Ham are still planning to wait until the end of the season before clarifying manager David Moyes’ future. Moyes’ contract runs out at the end of the campaign and he has refused to say whether his tenure will be extended. The 60-year-old is the seventh-longest serving manager across England’s four divisions, having replaced Manuel Pellegrini in December 2019. Moyes steered West Ham clear of relegation trouble that season and has since presided over a sixth and seventh-placed Premier League finish, plus three notable European campaigns. The highlight came in Prague last year when the Hammers ended their 43-year wait for a trophy by beating Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final. However, Moyes has come under heavy criticism from some fans for a perceived negative style of play. In addition, many feel he has opted not to play West Ham’s youngsters, many of whom were part of the side that hammered Arsenal in last season’s FA Youth Cup final. While West Ham performed creditably in losing 3-1 on aggregate to Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League this month, since beating Manchester United and Arsenal in successive games around Christmas, they have only won four games out of 20 and were hammered by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. They are eighth in the Premier League With games against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City still to come, it had been wondered by some whether that would prompt West Ham into making an early announcement on Moyes’ future. However, BBC Sport understands that is not the intention. Moyes is in his second spell as West Ham manager, having first taken charge from November 2017 to May 2018.

Here are some of your answers:
West Ham United fans
Alan: Time is running out for David Moyes .This defeat is one of a succession of poor performances. We are too negative, our bench is non-existent and our youngsters are never given a chance. It's time for change. Mario: I don't think I can put it in to words. Yes we had Europe on Thursday but come on. Not good enough, squad too small, some players need to question their commitment and the manager - enough said. Lots of good things last three years, lots of very bad things. Time for a change. Bruce: Just how much longer is this farce with Moyes going on? We are now getting thrashed against average teams. Board must wake up to the fact he is out of his depth. Act before this once great club becomes picture of ridicule. Mark: Another capitulation after an outstanding European game in midweek. One week we can challenge the best, the following week we would find it hard to beat a Championship side. Same old West Ham. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/6db2/live/4283b7f0-fcdb-11ee-b809-ed07436f9ef3.jpg

That's the line repeatedly aimed towards West Ham fans who have been calling for a change in manager this summer. There is no doubt David Moyes has overseen one of the most successful eras in the club's modern history over the past four years. Three consecutive years in Europe - a club record. Two top-seven finishes in the Premier League. Silverware for the first time since 1980. It has been a wonderful time since he returned in 2020. His win percentage of 44.93% makes him the most successful manager in the club's history, eclipsing the 43.6% achieved by Billy Bonds in the early 1990s. When he does leave, he should go down as a West Ham hero, and some may argue he deserves legend status for the way in which he has positively impacted our club. But that does not mean he is the best we will ever have. That does not mean we should now stand still. Yet that is essentially what fans are being told by neutrals and pundits alike. Neutral fans appear bemused at the calls for Moyes' departure. A common question is: "Do West Ham fans really believe they deserve better?" The likes of Alan Shearer and Stuart Pearce have both resorted to "be careful what you wish for" statements in recent weeks, suggesting West Ham fans have no right to be looking for more than what they are currently getting. It is bizarre. As things stand, West Ham have just been thrashed 5-2 by Crystal Palace, have the worst defensive record outside the Premier League's bottom three and are on course to blow European qualification, despite sitting sixth at the turn of the year. We have only won four games in 2024 and have failed to beat Bristol City, Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Fulham and Palace. Yet, we are being told we should be happy about that. My question to the likes of Shearer is: if there is no better than Moyes, would you want him at your club next season? I think we all know the answer to that.

'I respect Moyes a lot for what he's done in football' - Cesc Fabregas..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/ca1c/live/6c5b4910-0291-11ef-a2c0-19d8332136a4.jpgFormer Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has questioned where the "line" is when it comes to complaints from West Ham fans about manager David Moyes. The 61-year-old guided the Hammers to Europa Conference League glory last season and has also steered them to the final stages of the Europa League on two occasions. However, with his contract up in June, and West Ham reeling from a heavy defeat at Crystal Palace last time out, his future remains uncertain. "I have a couple of friends that are big, big West Ham supporters and sometimes I ask the question, 'Why do you guys attack David Moyes so much when he's getting the right results?'," Fabregas asked on the Planet Premier League podcast. "Last year they won a European cup, they were fighting for Europe up until not long ago and having good results. They said 'we love him for the results, but we don't like him because of the style', and he says 'we are unwatchable'. These are the words sometimes that they use, which I cannot really say anything because I'm not someone to judge this as I don't watch them week in, week out. "But I think this is the only thing they complain [about]. I said, 'Yeah, but what do you prefer? To play good football and not get the results? Or to play football that suits him and get the results?', because at the end of the day, where is the line?" The Hammers boss is yet to agree a new deal with the club and there has been talk of Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as a candidate to replace him. "Someone else will come and will start playing very good football but they will not win games and then they will be complaining at the other thing," added Fabregas. "He [Moyes] has been successful… I respect [him] a lot for what he's done in football and for the man that I know he is."
