ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/1875/live/b73a0e00-eb6a-11ee-860f-4b0b053e4cd0.jpgWe asked for your thoughts on Tuesday's Premier League game between West Ham and Tottenham.
Here are some of your responses:
West Ham fans
Ian: Time to give Moyes some credit for the tactics. West Ham's low block had Spurs running up a lot of blind alleys and ensured they were unable to create many clear-cut chances. Had West Ham been more clinical it would have been three points in the bag rather than just the one. Eric: West Ham are in a good enough place in the league so Moyes should take the brakes off and let the players play with a bit more freedom. That might appease some of the fans. Clacton Rd Iron: Spurs made five substitutions, Moyes made none - despite Antonio, Ward-Prowse and Coufal looking exhausted. At least 10 of the same players will be picked on Saturday and for the biggest game of the season against Bayer Leverkusen next Thursday. Change the personnel when needed, not the formation - this team will be totally burned out and done in before the second leg against Leverkusen. Harry: I’m still frustrated at Moyes. I was begging for him not to make a defensive change but I got something worse instead: zero subs. Spurs were there for the taking - we just needed fresh legs and for Ings or Mubama to come on to help push our front three forward more, especially when our defence was more solid and structured. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c2/West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg/175px-West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg.png

Bowen has eye on Tony Cottee goal record from 1986-87..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/55b6/live/ce8d71c0-f1a8-11ee-a0d9-0bccfe78f605.jpgJarrod Bowen has his sights set on becoming the first West Ham player to hit 20 Premier League goals since Tony Cottee. Cottee was the last Hammers player to reach 20 in a top-flight campaign, back in 1986-87. Bowen has currently recorded 15 league goals this season with seven games remaining and looks likely to surpass the 40-year-old record. The England international is currently one goal behind Paolo Di Canio's best mark in a West Ham season of 16 in 1999-00. "I just want to keep on doing what I am doing," said Bowen. "I've spoken all season that I just want to keep that consistency level in my game and keep getting goals, assists and I think that is all I can do. "I just want to keep on doing what I'm doing and getting those goals involvements and want to break the goalscoring record."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/72ba/live/b429d500-f142-11ee-af87-9747554eff7b.jpgDavid Moyes has been speaking to the media before Saturday's Premier League game at Wolves.
Here are the key lines from the West Ham boss:Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola is unavailable after tweaking his groin against Newcastle last weekend. Moyes added: "We hope it's not going to be too long, but we'll have to wait and see." Centre-back Nayef Aguerd is also a doubt but he will be "monitored" in training today to make a final decision. Moyes said West Ham are "excited" to play Wolves and then Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter-final on Thursday, adding: "It's great to be in the position we're in." On the possibility of rotating his squad: "I've not even thought about that. It's difficult and there are teams around us, but we just need to take each game as it comes." He said Edson Alvarez "has been hugely important to the team" and they "have missed his presence" in the last two games when he has been suspended. On opponents Wolves: "Gary O'Neil's done a really good job, and we're up against a difficult opponent. "He's a young manager but he's come in and steadied Wolves. I've been very impressed with him." He said he is "happy" with this season overall so far, but "we'd like to be a bit higher up in the table and we have to work with that".

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/cb27/live/721dbe10-f327-11ee-8900-c7401aa65ed0.jpgWest Ham striker Michail Antonio netted in the recent games against Aston Villa and Newcastle United, his first club goals since August. "It's been a long time coming and it feels good," he told the Footballer's Football Podcast. "It's not just scoring the goals, but it's performing and playing well - and I'm buzzing. Hopefully I can keep it going." However, those goals have come during a four-game winless run in the Premier League for the Hammers and Antonio continued: "In a situation where we want to be winning games, we're getting in the lead and not keeping the lead, so it is frustrating that I'm scoring and we're not winning games - especially against Newcastle where we were 3-1 up. "It's one of those things where we'll keep trying to perform and doing well and our luck will turn." Looking ahead to Saturday's match at Wolves, Antonio said: "We fancy ourselves most places we go. I won't say we're in good form, but I wouldn't say we're in bad form. "We honestly believe we've got enough to go there and get three points on the form we're running on. We believe and I believe we'll do it."

Saturday 6th April 2024 - Premier League
Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 (Sarabia 33 pen) West Ham United 2 (Lucas Paquetá 72 pen, Ward-Prowse 84)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/64EF/production/_133093852_gettyimages-2136568578.jpg James Ward-Prowse's goal was his sixth for West Ham since joining from Southampton last summer
Report By Simon Stone, BBC Sport chief football news reporter at Molineux.James Ward-Prowse scored direct from a corner to give West Ham a precious Premier League win at Wolves - but the victory was marred by an injury scare around Jarrod Bowen. Ward-Prowse's 84th-minute effort swerved over Wolves keeper Jose Sa and dipped in at the far post to complete a second-half comeback after Lucas Paqueta cancelled out Pabio Sarabia's penalty with his own coolly-taken spot-kick. The game ended in controversy though as Wolves were denied what they thought was an equaliser in the ninth minute of stoppage time for an offside against young substitute Tawanda Chirewa. He was deemed to have impeded Lukasz Fabianski, even though the Hammers goalkeeper was getting nowhere near Max Kilman's header. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/f9ab/live/0ed7cb70-d8ce-11ee-abfa-c3d2a448be5f.jpgWest Ham boss David Moyes has been speaking to BBC Match of the Day following the game: "Wolves played well in the first half and we came out and played well in the second half. I have to say the substitutions - they don't always work, but they did today. The boys who came on did a great job. "I am still not convinced it [Wolves' goal] was a penalty-kick but the referee gave it. Although we played poorly in the first half, the biggest positive we took from it was we were only one goal down and that was from a dubious penalty. "We made a couple of changes to see if we could bring something else to the party, because we had shown nothing in the first half. All the basic things were missing, our play in the first half was so bad, but the second half was completely different." On James Ward-Prowse scoring direct from a corner: "James has a great delivery, as we know, and I still think we should be scoring more from them. But, if he puts them straight in from there, I'm happy! "The conditions were a bit blustery but I don't want to take anything away from James' technical ability to score from there." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/d62e/live/f8c802e0-dc61-11ee-ad4f-d7e60f67be04.jpgOn the late VAR drama that denied Wolves an equaliser: "I think nearly every decision today was a VAR call. We were all unhappy. We are all pretty disappointed generally with a lot of the things going on. "We have certainly had a terrible run of decisions - that last one might be one that has gone in our favour. When I've seen it back, he is definitely standing in front of the goalkeeper. "I think it was probably the right decision, but I can understand how Gary O'Neil would see it as a very harsh call. But I thought the penalty kick in the first half was a really harsh call for us."

David Moyes sweats on Bowen fitness..Simon Stone, Chief football news reporter.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/abbc/live/5dc19290-f442-11ee-afee-b166be1e697e.jpgThere are some anxious hours ahead of David Moyes when it comes to Jarrod Bowen. The West Ham manager's wait to find out if Bowen has any chance of facing Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday, or, indeed, in the second-leg the following week, will feel like a lifetime. The Hammers' chances of advancing past Xabi Alonso's men do not hinge entirely on the England man. But, if anyone is likely to breach the Germans' defences, it is the man who famously scored West Ham's Europa Conference League final winner. Without Bowen, Michail Antonio would start up front and, probably, Lucas Paqueta would be wide left. It is not terrible - West Ham did well at Wolves in the second-half. But, at Molineux, they needed a penalty and a goal direct from a corner. Bowen is the man most likely to find the net - as he has done 19 times this season. Moyes could really do with him, as his side get ready for their stiffest test in three seasons of European combat. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/55b6/live/ce8d71c0-f1a8-11ee-a0d9-0bccfe78f605.jpg

Wolves 1-2 West Ham: Gary O'Neil says disallowed equaliser 'possibly worst decision I've ever seen'..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport chief football news reporter at Molineux.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7697/production/_133095303_gettyimages-2143564804.jpg Gary O'Neil's side have been on the wrong end of decisions on a number of occasions this seasonWolves boss Gary O'Neil says the decision to disallow a last-gasp equaliser for his team against West Ham was "possibly the worst decision I have ever seen". Skipper Maximilian Kilman thought he had levelled in the ninth minute of stoppage time with a header that beat Lukasz Fabianski and found the far corner. However, video assistant referee Tim Robinson spotted substitute Tawanda Chirewa in an offside position in front of Fabianski and after being sent to the pitchside monitor, referee Tony Harrington decided the 20-year-old was in the West Ham keeper's line of vision. O'Neil, whose side have been on the wrong end of decisions on a number of occasions this season, starting with their opening-day defeat at Manchester United, was incredulous. He went to see Harrington after the final whistle but explained he was so angry the referee refused to speak to him. O'Neil accepts his words might land him in trouble, but he feels the injustice was so great that he had to try and make his feelings known. "It was a terrible decision," O'Neil said. "It is possibly the worst decision I have ever seen. "If your knowledge and understanding of the game is really poor, you could reach the conclusion that is offside. "If you are a Premier League official working at the highest level, I would be really disappointed if you thought that was offside. The only way that can be offside is if he stops Fabianski's ability to move or impedes his vision. Only the referee and VAR think that could possibly be offside." O'Neil went to have a better look at the incident while the match was continuing, knowing that another yellow card would lead to a touchline ban given he has had two cautions already this season. However, he was not placated. He spoke to Harrington on the pitch and then said he went to the referee's room afterwards which "didn't go too well". "I wasn't able to control my emotion well enough to get an explanation," O'Neil said. "The referee said he would rather not discuss it given how I was acting." O'Neil was unsure whether he would be reported for his emotional reaction. "Possibly. I don't know," he said. "If he reports it and I get told off, so be it. I have been told off many times before. "I will apologise if I have stepped over the line, but I can only react on how I feel in the moment and I was in a fairly bad mood at the final whistle." O'Neil said he has had to stop his players taking their grievances further already this season, given they do not believe they are being "respected". However, he added that in light of Saturday's events, there was nothing he could do to stop them. "I have talked them down before, but I can't expect to do that this time. They are incredibly frustrated at the decisions this season," O'Neil said. "It is very hard for me to stand in front of them with any integrity and tell them they are wrong. We will see how they feel about it next week."

Here are some of your responses:
West Ham fans
Adrian: We were dreadful in the first half and I thought Wolves deserved a comfortable half-time lead. We were much better in the second half and Wolves will wonder how they managed to lose that game. VAR is killing the game. We were poor but we won. Wolves will feel robbed. Liam: I can’t understand why we never get out of first gear until we are a goal down. I will forever wonder what would happen if an attacking-minded manager got hold of this squad. Poor officiating was unfortunately the talking point again. The first penalty was never a penalty and the last goal shouldn't have been disallowed. I hope Bowen makes a quick recovery. KB: I can't understand Moyes' decision to play Paqueta, Bowen and Kudus out of their favoured positions in the first half, when we were not under any pressure to. Surely that is tactical incompetence. He has made too many of these poor decisions - it is inexcusable. He should know his players better by this stage of the season. It was a better second half when it was rectified. Ray: It wasn't the best performance, but a result is a result. Unfortunately, our game management at the end hasn't been great but thankfully VAR stepped in and a decision has gone our way. Three points and now the focus is on Thursday. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c2/West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg/175px-West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg.png

Jarrod Bowen will miss the first leg of West Ham's Europa League quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday because of a knee injury.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/FD22/production/_133120846_edf2bd871c5208822d1b6da014d375e4509eefea.jpg Jarrod Bowen was substituted after sustaining an injury at WolvesThe forward, who has scored 19 goals this season, sustained the injury against Wolves on Saturday and might also miss the return leg on 18th April. "Jarrod isn't with us. He's twisted his knee and there's some sort of damage," said Hammers boss David Moyes. "We can't give any dates of when he might be back, unfortunately." Bowen came off after 54 minutes during the win at Wolves and has been a key player for West Ham this season. "He's an England international and we know how important he is to our team, so he'll be a miss for sure. But we have good players who can come in, so we'll stay positive," added Moyes. West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez is suspended, while midfielder Kalvin Phillips and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola will also be absent through injury. "I see it as a great opportunity," said Moyes. "We've had a good run in Europe and played a lot of good teams, and we play another one. "Hopefully, we can rise to the challenge and perform well. Both teams have 11 players, so it's an even game at the start. "We know Leverkusen are a very good team, but we believe in our abilities." Leverkusen have a 16-point lead in the Bundesliga with six games to go, and are unbeaten in all 41 matches this season in all competitions. "It could be the toughest challenge yet. They haven't lost for a long time, and we know how well they have played this season," said West Ham defender Kurt Zouma. "But we are still confident. We know the qualities we have and we showed that against Freiburg in the last round. "We always play to win. We know we might be missing some key players, but we have a good squad and we'll all give 100%." Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was linked with replacing Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss but recently confirmed he would be staying at the German club. "We know what West Ham can do. They have experience in Europe - last season they were champions of the Conference League," said Alonso. "We want to go further and starting tomorrow and then next week in London, we have to play to our own game. We are ready."

Manchester City have agreed terms with West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta before a summer move. The Brazil international, 26, was heavily linked with a move to Etihad Stadium last year. Everton can expect offers for Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana with former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness saying the club could get up to £70m for the 22-year-old amid interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United and West Ham.

'It's a shambles' - Antonio on VAR..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/4974/live/509d0a90-f744-11ee-a194-713bf48d15b4.jpgWest Ham striker Michail Antonio says VAR is "a shambles" in light of controversy in their win over Wolves. Wolves thought they had found a late equaliser in the fixture, when Max Kilman's goal was ruled out when a player was judged to be offside in front of West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. "It's a shambles. VAR is an actual shambles. Even though it's gone for me, we nicked a win because it's a shambles," Antonio told The Footballer's Football Podcast. "Honestly, that's not offside mate. In any shape or form. "VAR, I'd prefer if we just went back to normal. It has not helped football. Because they have spent so much money on it, they are scrambling, trying their hardest to keep it. "Sometimes in life you meet people and they just don't fit in your life and you have to let them go. You have to let it go mate." Asked if using ex-players in the VAR decision process, Antonio said: "It doesn't matter who is in there. At the end of the day it's a matter of opinion. Why VAR doesn't work in football is there are so many grey areas. So it will always be a matter of opinions. It doesn't make any sense. We've lost a bit of passion from the game. It hasn't helped. So, it's time to call it a day." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/45ee/live/650cc390-f725-11ee-8369-47dc4454b972.jpg

Kurt Zouma - Captaining West Ham in Europe 'a huge honour'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/c7ac/live/130498d0-f765-11ee-a4af-1f3d37d7d6d9.jpgWest Ham defender Kurt Zouma says he is "very proud" to be leading the side out as captain in Europe. The 29-year-old took on the armband following the departure of previous captain Declan Rice in the summer. Zouma has been a key player in helping the side reach the quarter finals of the competition for a second time where they take on Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen in Germany on Thursday. Speaking in the pre-match news conference, he said: "It's a huge honour for me, especially leading the team in the Europa League. It's something I thought would never happen to me. "To lead such a great group makes me very proud. "I've been through a lot of ups and downs, like everyone. My team-mates and coaches throughout my career have helped me, and I think all of that has helped me get to where I am today." Opponents Leverkusen are set to be crowned champions of the German top flight for the first time and Zouma believes this match "could be the toughest challenge yet" for the team. He added: "They haven't lost for a long time, and we know how well they have played this season. "But, we are still confident. We know the qualities we have and we showed that against Freiburg. Agree, as you may know WHU are my boyhood team, as soon as i heard about Bowen my heart sank, but hey you never know, a draw would be a minor miracle... BTW, good luck v Augsburg on friday, with only 6 games left and 6 points clear UB are safe as houses, yeah...!!!

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/4c10/live/a5beb8b0-ecf0-11ee-9410-0f893255c2a0.jpgWe asked for your thoughts on West Ham's Europa League quarter-final performance against Bayer Leverkusen.
Here are some of your responses:
Matthew: What a waste of my time. Defending was at times respectable, but the number of times we had to rely on Fabianski was incredible! Perhaps if Kudus had scored that one (and only) chance then maybe we wouldn't be out of this tie. Second leg looking dim. Chris: So unlucky. We didn't deserve that. The difference was the subs. They made four subs that changed the game. Our squad, being wafer thin again, meant we couldn't freshen it up. Same thing happened two years ago when we ran out of energy and got knocked out in the semis. Agrito: The lads put in a full shift against a Champions League-level team. Credit for them for making the effort. Even the anti-Moyes whinging brigade surely cannot find fault. Let's double-down and try our luck next week. Gerald: An expected result. At this level parking the bus just encourages the other team to break you down eventually. With our players I want to see attacking football just like most of the teams above us in the Premier League. With the suspensions and injuries let the youngsters show us what they can do! Terry: You just can't defend for 90 minutes and expect to keep a clean sheet. Sorry, but it's just horrible to watch your team play like this. I would rather we lost 2-0 having a go than just go out with a whimper. So old school - Moyes, please leave. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c2/West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg/175px-West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg.png
