TUESDAY 21st NOVEMBER 2023 - WORLD CUP QUALIFYING - ASIA
China 0 South Korea 3 (Son Heung-min 2 goals)

The Tottenham captain netted an 11th-minute penalty before heading home a second just before the break. Son was also involved in South Korea's third, assisting Jung Seung-hyun's bullet header in the 87th minute. After thrashing Singapore 5-0 on Thursday, Jurgen Klinsmann's South Korea side top Group C with six points. Playing in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 40,000 in Shenzhen, Son kept his cool as he slotted his spot-kick past China goalkeeper Yan Junling to give South Korea an early lead after Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan was fouled. Son, 31, was unmarked when he directed a deft header across the China goal and into the far corner to put South Korea in control, before he turned provider late on. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/5C2D/production/_131779532_a75522f5afd1869a039788803caac0b63fa43b2f.jpg

Tottenham could be relegated with FA reviewing 'serious breach of rules' after initially taking no action..by Jack Otway. The FA are reportedly preparing to review evidence of 'potentially serious breaches of agent rules'. The country's governing body are looking at a case involving Tottenham, Portsmouth and striker Jermain Defoe. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/11/21/13/78060757-12775131-image-a-48_1700572959132.jpgAccording to The Times, during a private hearing concerning the transfer of Defoe to Portsmouth in January 2008, an unlicensed agent was involved in negotiations. Defoe, Daniel Levy and Harry Redknapp - who was Portsmouth manager at the time - were also part of the talks. Breaches of FA agent rules have seen clubs docked points in recent years, with directors also banned. In this case, however, the FA reportedly took no disciplinary action. That same year, Luton Town were docked 10 points for breaking agent regulations. During an arbitration hearing over the transfer of Defoe, the panel in question found that Mitchell Thomas, an unlicensed agent, was 'a central figure in the deal'. The FA named Thomas on a list of agents who had been working in the sport without a license back in 2008. It was also heard that Levy had enlisted the services of Stuart Peters to act for Tottenham. A representation contract, which is required under FA rules, supposedly did not appear to be in place. Levy paid Peters a sum of £1 million for his role in the £7.5m deal, it is claimed. Under the FA rules, agents can act for a player, the buying club or the selling club in a transfer. However, they must have a formal representation and hold a licence as well. Tottenham are yet to comment on the matter - and neither has Defoe. FA regulations at the time stated that both “players and clubs are forbidden from using the services of an unlicensed players’ agent." Those same rules remain in place today. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/11/21/13/78060771-12775131-image-m-55_1700573231523.jpg i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/11/21/13/78060911-12775131-image-m-57_1700573251210.jpgAccording to the publication, a failure to comply with the regulations should be regarded 'as an extremely serious matter'. It could lead to 'heavy sanctions' including a points deduction, a transfer ban or even relegation. The agents themselves can face anything from a warning or fine to a ban. The panel concluded in 2010 and deduced Thomas had been involved in helping Defoe to agree to terms of his departure from Tottenham. It sent its findings to the FA but the governing body do not think they are in possession of all the relevant documentation. They will, however, review the case is more information becomes available. “The case was heard by an independent arbitration panel 15 years ago,” a spokeswoman for the FA said. “The FA was not a party to the arbitration. "It is unclear how much information was shared with the FA at the time, and no disciplinary action was taken. "If there is new evidence which was not available at the time, and which suggests serious breaches of our rules took place, we will review it.”

Tottenham 1-2 West Ham: Latest Spurs defeat 'unacceptable', says Son Heung-min..By Joe Rindl, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4C63/production/_131955591_gettyimages-1831283149.jpg Tottenham are the first side in Premier League history to score the first goal in five successive matches without winning any of them (D1 L4)Tottenham captain Son Heung-min called Spurs' latest defeat "unacceptable" and said his fellow players "need to take responsibility" after they dropped points from a winning position for a fifth consecutive game. Ange Postecoglou's men deservedly took an early lead at home to West Ham on Thursday night but were ultimately beaten 2-1 following a second-half comeback. No team has dropped more points from winning positions in the Premier League this season than Tottenham, who have relinquished 16. And Spurs' run of five matches without a win has caused the Lilywhites to drop from first, with a five-point lead at the top of the table, to fifth. "[Whether we] deserved better or not means nothing - we lost the game. It is unacceptable," Son told Amazon Prime. "As players [we] should take responsibility. Attacking players should [especially] feel responsibility because we had chances to kill the game." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/136C3/production/_131955597_gettyimages-1806658819.jpgTottenham hit the post through Giovani Lo Celso's deflected cross in the first half, while Richarlison had a fine chance to restore the hosts' lead in the second period but nodded a close-ranger header wide. Ultimately, though, West Ham were clinical and Tottenham lacked a ruthless touch despite racking up 23 shots. "If you dominate a game of football you have to turn it into something meaningful and we didn't," Postecoglou added on BBC Match of the Day. "We let ourselves down when we should have won the games [we have taken the lead in] comfortably." Tottenham made a brilliant start to the Premier League season, winning eight of their first 10 matches. But they last tasted victory in October and have now lost three consecutive league home fixtures for the first time since September 2008, when they were managed by Juande Ramos. After defeats by Chelsea, Wolves, Aston Villa and West Ham - all having taken the lead - talk of a title push is turning into worries of another finish outside the top four. "The challenges are there. It is no good feeling sorry for ourselves," said Postecoglou. "We still have a long way to go as a team and today shows that. "In a game of football if you don't put those chances away teams are always going to have the opportunity to punish you. In both boxes we were nowhere near where we need to be."

Here are some of the top comments:
Spurs fans
Ernie: After a bright start where we looked comfortably in control, having scored the two goals, they took their foot off the pedal and allowed Everton back into the game. Everton will probably consider themselves unlucky to not be leaving with at least one point. Ultimately, it was a big win but the team need to maintain better focus. Elvis: I thought it was a good performance from Spurs. When Everton came back to 2-1, I felt we really dug in and the goalkeeper was outstanding. Everton have been on a roll but we showed character and in the end deserved the points. Herman: Not our best game but the three points are important. The first 25 minutes were very good but then we got sloppy and didn't keep possession of the ball long enough. Despite all of this, we should have put the game to bed. Noam: I've got to applaud Ange for not changing his tactics one bit. We do need our injured players back soon because our team just isn't as good without them. We were the worse team in this game, however I will take any sort of win against an in-form Everton team. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b4/Tottenham_Hotspur.svg/120px-Tottenham_Hotspur.svg.png

Tottenham: Cristian Romero out for up to five weeks - Ange Postecoglou..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2688/production/_132146890_romero_body_gettyimages-1878229732.jpg Tottenham failed to win in three matches when Cristian Romero was suspended earlier in the seasonInjury-hit Tottenham face losing centre-back Cristian Romero for up to five weeks with a hamstring strain, says manager Ange Postecoglou. The 25-year-old Argentine picked up the injury during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Everton. Defenders Micky van de Ven and Ryan Sessegnon are also out injured, while full-back Destiny Udogie is suspended for Thursday's match at Brighton. "[It's] disappointing to lose [Romero], for sure," said Postecoglou. "He had a scan the other day and has got a hamstring strain. We are looking at probably four or five weeks for him." World Cup winner Romero missed three matches through suspension in November and December after being sent off in Tottenham's 4-1 home defeat to Chelsea. They picked up just one point in the centre-half's absence and lost to West Ham on his return, but have since won their past three matches. Spurs are fourth in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played one game more. "We obviously missed him with the suspension and now we've just got him back and he steadied things up," Postecoglou said. "Now he will be missing again for quite a chunk of time." Netherlands defender Van de Ven had built up a promising partnership with Romero before he injured his hamstring against Chelsea in November. Postecoglou says Van de Ven is "getting closer" to a return to first-team training, but believes the 22-year-old centre-back will not be ready until the Premier League match at Manchester United on 14th January. "He is at the tail end of it, for sure," added Postecoglou. "At some point, middle of January, he could be available, but how we use him after such a long absence will be depending on where he is at."

The 19-year-old joined Kieran McKenna's Tractor Boys in the summer and made 12 appearances without scoring in the second tier. Scarlett will join Ange Postecoglou's squad with immediate effect, having played 11 first-team games for Spurs. Hugo Lloris: Los Angeles FC sign goalkeeper from Tottenham on free transfer.

The 37-year-old has signed a deal through to the end of the 2024 season, with the option for a further two years. Lloris made 447 appearances in 11 years at Spurs, putting him seventh on their all-time list. "Spurs will always be a special place for me and all my family," said the former France international. "It has been a great privilege to be one of yours and one of your captains for many years and it's the end of the chapter, but you will be always in my hearts." LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington described Lloris as "arguably the most successful goalkeeper of his generation and a proven winner". Lloris joined Tottenham from Lyon in 2012 and was appointed captain by former boss Mauricio Pochettino in 2015. He was part of the Tottenham side that reached the 2019 Champions League final but expressed a desire to leave the club in the summer as he entered the final 12 months of his contract. Lloris will come on to the pitch at half-time of Sunday's Premier League match against Bournemouth (14:00 GMT) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to say goodbye to the fans. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/ff60/live/f4cf0a70-a747-11ee-8f07-bbfdfa890097.jpg

Here are some of the top comments:
Spurs fans
William: It is rare to come out of a 4 - 2 loss feeling that you could have come away with something from the game. However, considering the chances Spurs had late on this was not inconceivable. Once again, they looked dangerous going forward and will always score goals, but it was clear that they will also concede goals and missed Romero and Van de Ven. KB: The manager talked about tiredness, however the goals were just very poor defending. No communication, leaving a player free for the first, then the most stupid shirt tug and the third was avoidable if again someone communicates and closes down the shot. The final goal is just plain naivety. Won’t achieve anything if we cannot stop conceding. Paul: For the first time tonight it showed how much the injuries have affected Ange’s options regarding team selection. Brighton were able to carve out chance after chance through the middle. We need to get Van de Ven and Maddison back ASAP, even more so because Sarr, Son and Bissouma will be missing a few games. Our forwards also need to learn the offside rule. John: I am appalled by that inept, dreadful display. Forget the so called late rally. This was just unforgivable. I feel sorry for Mr Levy in being faced with the prospect of having to replace those who go off to represent their countries. Perhaps it is time some should be given a one-way ticket. There was a dreadful lack of courage and intelligence.

SUNDAY 31st DECEMBER 2023 - PREMIER LEAGUE
Tottenham Hotspur 3 (Sarr 9, Son 71, Richarlison 80) AFC Bournemouth 1 (Scott 84)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1274D/production/_132179557_gettyimages-1897222608.jpg Tottenham have scored in 32 consecutive Premier League games, equalling a club record
Report By Jess Anderson, BBC Sport.Tottenham finished 2023 on a high with victory over an energetic Bournemouth in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Pape Sarr opened the scoring when Rodrigo Bentancur latched on to Neto's casual pass out from the back and the ball broke for Sarr, who drilled it into the far corner. Smarting from a 4-2 loss to Brighton in midweek, an injury-hit Spurs watched as Bournemouth enjoyed plenty of chances and looked likely to level. But the visitors lacked a clinical edge in the final third and Son Heung-min doubled his side's lead with a superb left-footed strike which went in off a post before Richarlison swept home to wrap up the points for Ange Postecoglou's side. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/F29C/production/_132180126_gettyimages-1889775161.jpgAlex Scott steered home a consolation goal but the Cherries are likely to wonder how they allowed the scoreline to get away from them and leave London empty-handed. It marked a first defeat in eight games for Andoni Iraola's side as Dominic Solanke's three-match scoring streak came to an end. Spurs remain fifth in the table - three points off top spot and one behind Arsenal in fourth. Match Stats: Possession 51% - 49% - Shots: 12-24 - On Target: 6-4 - Corners: 4-13 - Referee: Simon Hooper - Attendance: 61,780
