Should Harry Kane stay or should he go...

Marco: I think Spurs have let Kane down yet again. He has ambitions but they just don't seem to share the same vision. Spurs are a club that hold others to ransom but happily poach players off smaller clubs for next to nothing. Kane has been a loyal servant and yet they blocked him joining man city a year ago. Personally I think Bayern are paying over the odds for a 30-year-old and he should sit out the last year of his contract and then join whoever he wants to join rather than who will meet Spurs demands.

Iain: Kane is holding all the cards now. He might see out his contract and head to Manchester next summer assuming Ange doesn’t work a miracle this year. He’s still got a few years to go. Henrik Larsson left Celtic aged 33 and went on to win La Liga, Champions League, and Premier League titles. …. Of course Henrik was better than Harry!

Rob W-G, gardening on the sunny Isle of Wight: Harry Kane has earned the TOTAL right to choose whatever he wants England and Spurs LEGEND. He'll be back in a couple of seasons for a Spurs swansong when we win the Champions League.

Mike Hughes: Harry Kane can take the same paths as Teddy Sheringham and Gareth Bale. Leave Spurs to go to a big club and get those trophies. After a few years return to Spurs and be welcomed back as a legend.

Amrul Choudhury: Please spare a thought for Dortmund. Missed out on the Title on the last day, sold arguably their best player Bellingham and now they see Bayern sign Kane to all but seal Bundesliga for the next 3/4 years.

Rich, London: When push comes to shove, Kane will stay in his comfort zone. If he was desperate to win trophies he'd have left Spurs years ago.

Graham, Sussex: It’s a strange one. Could understand the appeal of Barca or Real but the Bundesliga is a real step down from the Prem. Maybe a couple of seasons there then a return to Tottenham?

Rory: No brainer for Kane. He has to go. He will always be a legend in England. Time to become one in Germany.

Stupots: I don't understand the rhetoric that Kane has to win something to prove himself? Really... He wins a German title in a league where one team are dominant and then are people going to say he's world class? Stay in England and breaking Shearers record has to mean more?

Martin: If Kane really did not want to make a change he would have signed an extension long ago, his continued silence says it was just about deal being made, not his desire, and for all optimism for manager and signings it’s going to be a long season for Spurs you feel without Kane's goals.

Alec: If Kane has wanted to move to Bayern supposedly all summer, why is there a "decision to be made"? Something doesn't feel right.

Anon: What I can't quite understand now is why people are saying "it's up to Kane", when it's almost certain he wants to leave because Bayern have been pushing and negotiating for him all summer? Just a matter of time.


Former England, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle striker Michael Owen says Harry Kane should stay at Spurs:
"I know Bayern Munich are a massive club and I have huge respect for them but if I were Harry Kane, I'd stay put.
"There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them.
"Real Madrid I would understand. Or one or two top Premier League clubs for that matter. Becoming the all-time Premier League top goal scorer with Spurs is a bigger achievement than winning the league in a country dominated by one team.".

England striker Harry Kane has reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to leave Tottenham and join the German champions on a four-year deal.

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel made Kane his number one target and will be stunned if the England captain does not move.

Tottenham will consider a shock move for Chelsea's Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku, 30, if Kane does complete his move to Bayern.

Bayern Munich fans could not have been more excited when Harry Kane finally arrived in Munich on Friday.

After more than a month of negotiations between Bayern and Tottenham, much of it in the public eye, Kane had finally become a player for the German champions.

However, only a little more than 24 hours after his arrival, the mood was already dampened, as Bayern lost 3-0 to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup final.

Kane made his first appearance in Munich's Allianz Arena when Thomas Tuchel brought him on to replace Mathys Tel in the 63rd minute.

The Bayern manager felt bad that Kane's debut came as a part of a losing effort.

"I just feel sorry for him," Tuchel said after the game. "He probably thinks we haven't trained for four weeks.

"Our performance today had nothing to do with what we wanted to do. It's a very bitter evening, I'm sorry."

James Maddison registered more shots, attempted more crosses and engaged in more duels than any of his team-mates in the win at Bournemouth

James Maddison's Tottenham career is almost two months old, yet with the way he has settled it almost feels like the England man has been at the club for years.

After following up his two assists at Brentford with an influential display against Manchester United last weekend, Maddison is going up through the gears.

He scored his first goal in Tottenham colours at Bournemouth on Saturday and delivered a superb all-round display to help Ange Postecoglou's side continue their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Maddison was sensational at Vitality Stadium, dropping deep on numerous occasions to collect possession, threading passes into the path of team-mates and producing a composed finish to set Spurs on their way to a second league win of the season.

It may be early days but the former Leicester man, named as a vice-captain to Son Heung-min following Harry Kane's summer departure to Bayern Munich, looks set to play a key role as Postecoglou aims to rejuvenate a Spurs side that was low on creativity and invention under previous managers Nuno Espirito Santo, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

"I'm at my best when I have responsibility on my shoulders - that's when I thrive," Maddison told BBC Match of the Day after Saturday's 2-0 win. "I'm a player who loves to be on the ball and that fits with how the manager wants his players to play."

A delighted Postecoglou added: "He's the kind of guy that when the ball gets to his feet, things happen. He also works hard for the team. He embraces that side of it.

"I thought it was a really good performance from him."

Tottenham have offered Bayern Munich the chance to sign 29-year-old England defender Eric Dier.

Brentford have pulled out of the race to sign Wales forward Brennan Johnson, 22, leaving Tottenham as the frontrunners to strike a deal with Nottingham Forest.

Spurs have also been in contact with Barcelona over the availability of Spain forward Ansu Fati, 20, but face competition from Chelsea.

Joshua: The only thing that Spurs need to do is sign a striker as Richarlison will not get you 30 goals a season like Kane could.

Patrick: Ideally, a half-decent striker who can pop a goal in here and there, like Vlahovic. It's unfortunate that Juventus are so against the transfer as it would be of real benefit both teams.

Luca: Simple. In comes Brennan Johnson, out goes Sanchez, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Dier, Lo Celso and Tanganga.

Brian: Would like to see them go for Gift Orban as opposed to Johnson. A dynamic player with the attacking and goalscoring ability we need.

Mark: I think that Eze would be good. But realistically, we need a new striker to either be a Richarlison back-up or a replacement.

Burnley fans

Howard: Too early to be despondent. Burnley must keep playing attractive football whilst sharpening their possession as Spurs did. There's a long way to go. Keep the faith.

Bob: Early days I know but it’s the worst possible start for us. I just hope that we can improve quickly enough. Possibly a little too risky playing quite so many inexperienced youngsters at the same time?

Alan: No surprise. The team last season was adequate only because of the experienced players who came down with the club from the Premier League. They have now been jettisoned in favour of people who can run for long periods. It needs more than simply being fit to win games. Relegation is nailed on.

Tottenham fans

Harry: We finally have our attacking Spurs back. I literally cannot stress enough how wonderful it is to see us not sitting back and trying to absorb pressure when we start to lead games. We have the quality to put games to bed and that’s exactly what we did. Son finally firing. Maddison is an absolute gem, what a piece of business to acquire him.

Stephen: There are going to be blips along the way but all teams have them. This Spurs team look the complete unit. Son, Maddison and Bissouma look like they have played together for years rather than months. Long may it continue. Still got to master not giving that first goal away though, must start quicker.

David: Brilliant display. Great to have a manager who has such a connection in such a short period with the players and with the fans. This will only grow from here. Exciting times ahead.

Michael: It's always good when you win but, unlike wins in the past few seasons, I'm not left feeling disappointed in the manner of the win. Now it seems any one of our players can score because the attacking intent is there. We will concede goals but as long as we take some of the chances we create we will be in with a shout in most games.

Murray: Was Harry Kane holding Spurs back?

Of course he wasn't - it was probably the other way around.
What we can say is that Spurs do not, as yet, appear to be suffering for his absence as they play exciting football under new manager Ange Postecoglou. James Maddison looks an absolute snip at £45m and Son Heung-min is in the goals.
A bump in the road at Fulham in the Carabao Cup, but so far so good in the post-Kane era.


Michael: As much as Spurs fans will miss Harry Kane and will always thank him - especially for last season - do you think this is a case where a player leaving may well have a positive effect, somewhat inadvertently?

"Early days, Michael. Any team would miss the world-class talent and goals of Harry Kane, but I sort of take your point. Others may have room to step forward, although I still have my doubts about Richarlison as the long-term answer.

"James Maddison will bring so much added creation to Spurs after the drudgery of the Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte eras. Brennan Johnson is a top young talent, while Son Heung-min is a class act.

"I still think Spurs will need to sign a potent striker, but it's all looking good so far under Ange Postecoglou - Fulham aside - and they are also so good to watch at the moment."
