He is the second signing under new manager Ange Postecoglou, after Sweden midfielder Dejan Kulusevski turned his loan spell into a permanent move. Vicario, 26, impressed in his two years at Empoli, earning a first international call-up last season. Spurs captain and current number one Hugo Lloris has 12 months left on his contract. Vicario is described by the north London club as a "commanding goalkeeper with the ability to play out from the back". He started his career at Udinese and had spells at Cagliari, Perugia and Venezia before joining Empoli in July 2021 following their promotion to Serie A. Empoli were expected to be battling against relegation but the 6ft 4in keeper has helped them to consecutive 14th-place finishes. Last season Vicario conceded just 39 goals in 31 league appearances, keeping seven clean sheets, as Empoli finished 12 points clear of the drop zone. He received his first call-up to the Italy squad in September, when he was an unused substitute in their 1-0 home defeat by England in European Championship qualifying. Vicario has since been named on the bench for friendlies against Albania and Austria, and in their run to this month's Nations League semi-final. Fraser Forster, 35, is another option in goal for Spurs and the England keeper deputised last season when Lloris was injured.

Harry Winks' season with Sampdoria last season finished with them being relegated from Serie ATottenham midfielder Harry Winks is closing in on a move to Leicester City for a fee of about £10m. The 27-year-old has dropped down the pecking order at Spurs in recent seasons and spent last season on loan in Italy with Sampdoria. The Spurs academy graduate has earned 10 caps for England but last played for the Three Lions in 2020. Championship side Leicester are already in conversation with Spurs over the transfer of 26-year-old James Maddison. Midfielder Maddison is set to become the first lucrative departure from the Foxes since their relegation from the Premier League, with the England international poised to join Ange Postecoglou's side for £40m. Winks has made more than 200 appearances for Spurs across all competitions and last featured for them on the final day of the 2021-22 campaign. He played 20 times for Sampdoria in Italy's top flight last season, but his loan spell was a miserable one as they finished bottom and were relegated from Serie A.

The German giants have reportedly bid £70m for the 29-year-old in recent days. England captain Kane, whose Spurs contract expires next June, scored 30 Premier League goals last season. "Kane is one of the premier strikers in the world and I want him involved here," Postecoglou said. "I just want to introduce myself to Harry, give him my vision, get an understanding from him over what his vision is and try to be successful. "My conversation with him will be about how we can make this club successful and there is no doubt that is what he wants as well." Kane will return to pre-season training on Wednesday and the expectation is he will be part of Postecoglou's travelling squad for a three-match tour of Australia, Thailand and Singapore. Asked if he had been given any assurances over Kane's future, he said: "No, I haven't had any assurances and I wouldn't expect any assurances. For me, I am trying to concentrate on what I know now and Harry is part of the squad. "I don't think it is my role to sit there and sort of treat people in a manner because of their circumstances. I am big on treating everyone the same." Kane is Tottenham's all-time record goalscorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances, having come through the club's academy. Postecoglou was named as Tottenham's manager in June after Antonio Conte was sacked in March. Interim manager Cristian Stellini was let go a month after Conte departed, with Ryan Mason leading the club for the rest of the season as they finished eighth in the Premier League. Australian Postecoglou added he is focusing on the squad he has now instead of speculating on what may happen in the transfer window. "What I know right now is Harry is part of this squad and looking forward to coming back among players, training, start working together," he said. "If I spend too much time worrying about impact, I will miss trying to build a team. "Ultimately that is what will make us successful, build a team a certain way. I am not going to miss this initial opportunity to establish what will be important in the long term. It goes beyond individuals. There is an overriding philosophy on who we want to be as a team and key people within that." 'I want to create something that lasts'The new boss, asked about his plans for the club, said he wants trophies. "I want to bring success to this football club," Postecoglou said. "I always take over clubs after they've had a disappointing season or seasons. "The thing I cherish the most is to create something that lasts and stays beyond my tenure. Solomon becomes Tottenham's fourth signing of the summer after winger Dejan Kulusevski, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and England midfielder James Maddison. The deal is reported to be a free transfer. Tottenham finished eighth in the Premier League last season and missed out on European qualification. Solomon joined Fulham on loan from Shakhtar after exercising a Fifa rule allowing Ukraine-based players to suspend their contracts. The rule, applying to players who are not Ukrainian nationals, was introduced by the world governing body following the invasion by Russia. Solomon's performances helped Fulham to a 10th-placed Premier League finish and manager Marco Silva was keen to keep him. "When I came back from Turkey, I found out I needed an operation and I was in a bad place mentally," he told The Overlap. "I decided to go to a modern day rehab facility for mental health. You have to know and make the decision yourself or it's not going to work. I was caught in a bad cycle. "An older person told me that they wouldn't stop a kid on a bike, so I rode around with my football, and then underneath I'd have the drugs. That was eight. "Eleven, I was hung off a bridge by a guy from the next estate, a man. "Twelve, I was adopted - and from then, it was like - I was adopted by an amazing family like I said, I couldn't have asked for better people to do what they'd done for me. If God created people, it was them."
