Xisco Munoz: Sheffield Wednesday sack boss after winless start to Championship..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/10CE1/production/_131333886_gettyimages-1610628422.jpg Xisco Munoz departs Hillsborough with Sheffield Wednesday bottom of the Championship and seven points from safetySheffield Wednesday have sacked boss Xisco Munoz after he failed to win any of his 10 Championship games in charge. The Spaniard arrived at Hillsborough to replace Darren Moore, who left in June after leading them to promotion from League One. However, Munoz picked up just two points as Owls manager as the club made its worst ever start to a season. The 43-year-old's final game in charge was the 1-0 league defeat at West Brom on Tuesday. Under-21s boss Neil Thompson will take charge for Saturday's home game against Huddersfield. Munoz had guided Watford to promotion to the Premier League in 2020-21, his only previous spell managing in England. Wednesday fell to a narrow defeat by Southampton in the first game of the Championship season and then succumbed to further losses against Hull, Preston and Cardiff. A 0-0 draw with Yorkshire rivals Leeds got them on the board, but their only other point came in a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough on 19 September. The Boro match was briefly halted as fans threw tennis balls on to the pitch in protest against Dejphon Chansiri's ownership and defeats followed against Swansea, Sunderland and the Baggies. Last week Chansiri said he would not put any more money into the club and was unhappy with treatment towards him and his family from some fans. Munoz's only triumph in his unhappy spell came via a penalty shootout against League Two Stockport in the first round of the EFL Cup, but they were then knocked out on penalties by fourth-tier Mansfield in the second round. Xisco's backroom team - Miguel Munoz, Miguel Gomila, Roberto Cuesta Roman and Antonello Brambilla - have also departed. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/2D0D/production/_131333511_gettyimages-1692063852.jpg

Mark Hughes: Former Wales boss sacked as Bradford City manager..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7AA0/production/_131329313_c3fc6e02862aba65f8fc25fa21a95548dfedf94d.jpg Mark Hughes led Bradford to the League Two play-offs last season, losing to Carlisle in the semi-finalsFormer Wales boss Mark Hughes has been sacked as Bradford City manager with the team 18th in League Two. The 59-year-old guided the Bantams to the play-offs last season but they have only won three out of 11 games since the start of the 2023-24 campaign. And he was booed by supporters after Bradford were beaten 3-1 at home by Walsall on Saturday. "After 11 league games we find ourselves a long way away from where we expect to be," said CEO Ryan Sparks. "As a result, the decision has been taken to move in a different direction in an effort to get our season on track. "On a personal level, I have very much enjoyed working alongside Mark and [assistant manager] Glyn [Hodges], and we go our separate ways on good terms." Kevin McDonald has been named interim player-manager. Hughes was appointed in February 2022, having been out of management since December 2018 when he was sacked by Premier League side Southampton. He steered Bradford to a 14th-place finish at the end of that season and they finished sixth last term, only to lose to Carlisle in the play-off semi-finals, meaning a fifth successive season in League Two. "They made a great impact when they arrived at the club, both on and off the field, and last season came close to delivering on our aims," Sparks told the club website. "Unfortunately, since our defeat at Carlisle in the play-off semi-final, results have been disappointing."

Neil Harris: Gillingham sack manager 'to go in different direction'..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/6647/production/_131338162_shutterstock_editorial_14083500ay.jpg Neil Harris won 31 of his 90 games in charge of Gillingham in all competitionsLeague Two club Gillingham have sacked manager Neil Harris after a run of three games without a win. The Gills topped the table after winning their first four league games, but four defeats in seven since then have seen the Kent club drop to eighth. Former Millwall and Cardiff City boss Harris, 46, had been in charge at Priestfield since 31st January 2022. A statement on the Gills website said the club have decided "to go in a different direction". "The club will begin the process of identifying a head coach to take the team forward," the statement added. Harris is the third EFL boss to lose his job in less than 24 hours after Sheffield Wednesday sacked Xisco Munoz and Bradford parted company with Mark Hughes on Wednesday. Gillingham owner Brad Galinson, who took over the club in December last year, has targeted promotion to League One following a 17th-placed finish last season. Harris' final game in charge was the 2-0 defeat at Crewe on Tuesday - a result which left the Gills one point off the automatic promotion places. His assistant David Livermore will also depart. Keith Millen - who has been in charge of the club's academy - will take control of first-team matters on an interim basis, with his first game at home against MK Dons on Saturday. The 53-year-old has previously had stints managing Bristol City and Carlisle United, in 2010-11 and 2021-22 respectively. He has also had caretaker spells in charge of the Robins (twice), Crystal Palace (three times) and MK Dons. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/14CBF/production/_131338158_gettyimages-1646937261.jpg

Wayne Rooney linked with Birmingham City job as head coach John Eustace is sacked..By Ged Scott, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E8D7/production/_131370695_gettyimages-1715452054.jpg Birmingham City appointed John Eustace as head coach in July 2022Birmingham City have parted company with head coach John Eustace after 15 months in charge. The Championship club are sixth in the table after Friday's 3-1 derby win over West Bromwich Albion. American-owned Blues have been linked with ex-England captain Wayne Rooney, who has just left his role as coach of Major League Soccer side DC United. The club said the appointment of a new boss is imminent and will be encouraged to adopt a "no fear" approach. "A new first-team manager will be announced in the coming days who will be responsible for creating an identity and clear 'no fear' playing style that all Birmingham City teams will adopt and embrace," a club statement said. "It is essential that the board of directors and the football management are fully aligned on the importance of implementing a winning mentality and a culture of ambition across the entire football club." Eustace leaves after 15 months in charge, a period for the club that included two failed takeover bids, potential risk of points deductions and the threat of relegation before new owners Shelby Companies Limited, led by American businessman Tom Wagner, took charge on 13 July. Blues have since been further backed by financial input from global sporting superstar Tom Brady - and the early indications are that they want another big name and are waiting to install former Everton, Manchester United, Derby County and England striker Rooney. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12490/production/_131369847_tomtoms.jpgCo-owners Tom Brady and Tom Wagner visited St Andrew's for the first time in AugustWayne Rooney's name has been circling on social media for several weeks, before he left DC United - and while the highly-thought-of Eustace's name was first being linked with Rangers. He told Talksport on Monday that he was returning to England to see his family, but would be interested if any suitable job offers came up "in October or November". If Rooney is offered the job, as expected, he will become the club's seventh appointment in just over six years. The club are now without a game until the trip to Middlesbrough on 21st October because of the international break. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/15E11/production/_131371698_gettyimages-1394631485.jpg Wayne Rooney won 24 of his 85 games in charge of Derby County at a time when the club was in severe financial difficulty

Yes - makes little sense. They looked to be well placed under Eustace.
If they wanted a household name as a manager they could at least have looked 90 miles south. The compo would have come in handy. Grandads in Birmingham are probably now quite worried

Micky Mellon: Oldham Athletic appoint former Tranmere Rovers boss as manager..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/13D4F/production/_131413218_shutterstock_editorial_13640619bm-1.jpg Micky Mellon has won five promotions during his time as a managerOldham Athletic have appointed former Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Mellon as their manager on a three-year deal. Mellon, 51, had two spells with Rovers, the most recent of which came to an end in March this year. The Scot has twice won promotion from the National League, with Fleetwood Town as well as Tranmere. "This is a hugely exciting opportunity at a wonderful club and I am determined to deliver the success that everyone here craves," he told the club website. "The aspirations of the club and the developments in recent times mean it is a genuine privilege to be joining Oldham Athletic at this juncture. There is so much potential here and the scope to achieve something very special. "The supporters of this club deserve success and together I want us to embark on a journey that will create lasting memories for us all." Mellon takes over from David Unsworth at Boundary Park after the former Everton defender was sacked last month after a poor start to the season. Steven Thompson and Neil Redfearn took over on a caretaker basis and led the team to three wins and three draws to lift them up to 12th in the table. They both left the club on Thursday and academy manager Paul Murray will take Saturday's FA Cup qualifying tie at Altrincham. Mellon, who has also had spells in charge of Shrewsbury and Dundee United, will lead the Latics for the first time in the trip to local rivals Rochdale on 21st October.

Danny Rohl: Sheffield Wednesday appoint 34-year-old as new boss..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11711/production/_131414417_gettyimages-1345091858.jpg Dany Rohl left his job as Germany assistant when Hansi Flick was sacked in SeptemberSheffield Wednesday have appointed former Germany assistant coach Danny Rohl as their new manager. The 34-year-old replaces Xisco Munoz after the Spaniard was sacked last week having overseen the club's worst ever start to a season. Munoz failed to win any of his 10 Championship games in charge and the Owls are seven points adrift of safety. Rohl has previously worked as an assistant at RB Leipzig, Southampton and Bayern Munich. This is the German's first managerial role and makes him the youngest boss in the English Football League. He has said he will bring four coaches from Germany and also look to appoint an experienced British coach to his staff. His first game in charge of Wednesday will be at fellow strugglers Watford on Saturday, 21st October. "When you are an assistant and work with some great coaches like Ralf Rangnick, Ralph Hassenhuttl and Hansi Flick you can take something from all of them and now it's the time to be a manager and decide things on the pitch," he said in a news conference. "I think all my experiences are helpful for my first step as a manager. "I prepared the past 10 years for this situation and now the dream has come true. I have a clear philosophy and identity in my mind and that's why I'm here now."

Adding to the post of lostinspace above: Graham Alexander: MK Dons sack head coach after just 16 games in charge..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DC68/production/_131442465_shutterstock_editorial_14149592gv.jpg Graham Alexander made more than 1,000 appearances during his playing careerThe 52-year-old former Scotland international was appointed in May following last season's relegation. But the Dons have failed to win any of their last eight league games and are currently 16th in the table. Alexander previously managed Fleetwood, Scunthorpe, Salford and Scottish club Motherwell, who he guided to a Europa Conference League place in 2021-22. His assistant Chris Lucketti has also left the club. Alexander's final game in charge of the Dons was Saturday's home 2-2 draw with Barrow, when they conceded twice in added time at the end of the game, having led 2-0. Afterwards, a downbeat Alexander told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It should be three points in the bag. But we have unbelievable ways of shooting ourselves in the foot. "We had opportunities to see that game out and we're not making good decisions, and then it's a blind panic at 2-1." He continued: "It's nothing to do with luck - 'I hope our luck changes, I hope someone sprinkles some magic dust over us' - we've got to stop believing in fairytales, it's about what we do every single day, and then go and do it in a game. "I can't defend losing the three points. It's not a bunch of kids who hadn't played football before. Surely we understand we have to do this for this five minutes, or that for this five minutes, whatever you've been taught over the years? "We can't walk them through it. We're trying to teach them and give them responsibility. You've got to make 1,000 decisions in that 90 minutes, or 95 minutes, you can't look over to us (coaches) and ask 'what do I do right now, what do I do at this throw-in, set-piece, corner?'." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/8E48/production/_131442463_shutterstock_editorial_14149592p.jpg

Gary Rowett: Millwall manager leaves club after four years in charge..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/14C54/production/_131467058_gettyimages-1414627447.jpg Rowett has previously managed at Burton Albion, Birmingham City and Derby CountyMillwall manager Gary Rowett has left the Championship club by mutual consent after four years in charge. The 49-year-old guided the club to top-half finishes in each of those years but was unable to secure them a place in the play-offs. Rowett took over in October 2019 following a short stint at Stoke. "I have thoroughly enjoyed being manager of Millwall and depart with a feeling that the club has progressed during my tenure," Rowett said. A successor has not yet been appointed and assistant manager Adam Barrett will take charge of the team in the interim period. Millwall sit 15th in the Championship with four wins from their opening 11 league matches, three points off the play-off places. Rowett said in a statement: "I would like to thank the fans for all their support during my time at the club. The atmosphere they create is truly unique. "As is sometimes the case in football, the time just feels right to part ways." Chairman James Berylson said: "We greatly appreciate Gary's efforts throughout his time in charge and he departs with the best wishes of everybody connected with the club. "While my time working directly with Gary has been short, I have thoroughly enjoyed all our interactions and feel that he leaves us having enhanced the club's on-pitch status during four successful years in charge." Rowett took charge of the Lions after Neil Harris resigned and following his own unsuccessful spell at Stoke, where he was in charge for just eight months. The former Derby player had signed a new contract with Millwall in 2022 after keeping the London side in contention for a Championship play-off place until the final day of the season, when they lost 1-0 at promoted Bournemouth. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/D724/production/_131467055_gettyimages-1722478209-1.jpgGary Rowett Millwall Stats: P 196, W 76, D 57, L 63 - Win % 38.8

Lincoln City: Results not reason for Mark Kennedy sacking, says CEO..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/161DB/production/_131478509_gettyimages-1676991019.jpg Mark Kennedy replaced Michael Appleton as Lincoln City boss in May 2022Mark Kennedy's public criticism of midfielder Danny Mandroiu and not Lincoln City's results were among the reasons the head coach was sacked, says Imps chief executive Liam Scully. Kennedy had said Mandroiu could become "just another statistic" unless he changes his approach. The midfielder had been sent off in Lincoln's defeat by Burton - the Imps' third loss in four league games. "Certainly, it was not purely a results-based decision," Scully said. "Of course we are ambitious and our aim is to be higher in the table at this moment in time, but it is very early on in the season and there are lots of mitigating factors. "One thing we want to be clear on is that we are not naive, this is about winning but this isn't purely about results. Far from it." Kennedy, 47, became the first Lincoln manager in almost nine years to be dismissed rather than leave by mutual consent or move to another club. In an interview with BBC Radio Lincolnshire, Scully added that style of play and development of talent under Kennedy were reasons for parting ways on Wednesday. And while trying to avoid "a warts and all" explanation, Scully went on to say that Kennedy's treatment of Mandroiu was also among the reasons. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/ECAB/production/_131478506_gettyimages-1723682413.jpg"One thing I can say, and please let's not let this run away, but I don't think it was helpful in terms of our characterisation of Danny Mandroiu after the game," Scully said. "Is that part of it? Yes. Is that the reason? No. "I keep going back to it, and I know I will bore people saying this, but there are many different facets and parts of this. "This is looking at it from an elevated pitch, the progress that we are making and not necessarily the progress we have made so far, but how do we hit the measures we would like to achieve going forward? "And fundamentally that was why we felt it was in the best interests of all parties." Kennedy was just 11 leagues games into his second season with the club, and had the Imps 16th in the League One table - five points off the play-off spots and seven clear of the relegation places. The former and Republic of Ireland, Liverpool, Manchester City and Wolves winger guided them to an 11th place finish last term, his first in senior management. "Mark and Danny [assistant Danny Butterfield] in many parts did what was asked of them, and above and beyond," added Scully. "We are very grateful for them doing that, but this is about about Lincoln City here and now and going forward as well. "We will never do anything knee jerk at Lincoln City, certainly not with Clive Nates at the helm. We are process driven in terms of looking at the overall objective of the football club."

Joey Barton sacked just hours after he called rival boss "fat man" in final game..By Kieran King, Sports Writer.i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31118525.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/1_GettyImages-1601917182.jpgThe Gas currently sit 16th in League One and have won just one of their last five matches, with Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Stevenage proving to be Barton's final game at the helm. They had previously been beaten by Oxford and Burton either side of the international break and have collected just 16 points from a possible 39 this season. Barton led the club to promotion to League One in his first full season and guided Rovers to a respectable 17th place finish last term. Andy Mangan has been appointed as Rovers' interim manager and is expected to lead the team for their home game against Northampton on Saturday. A club statement read: "Bristol Rovers Football Club can confirm that today the club has relieved First Team Manager Joey Barton of his duties. "Everyone at the club would like to thank Joey for all his efforts and wish him well in the future. In the interim, Andy Mangan will lead the team supported by Glenn Whelan, Danny Ventre and Anssi Jaakkola who will remain in post." Barton was appointed as Rovers' new boss in February 2021 and couldn't stop them from dropping into League Two. However, the following year he led them to automatic promotion, losing just one of their final 19 matches and thrashing Scunthorpe on the final day to pip Northampton to promotion on Goals Scored. It was a remarkable achievement for Barton and Rovers as they somehow secured an automatic promotion place alongside Forest Green and Exeter. That ended up earning Barton a new three-year contract extension to keep him at the club until 2026, and Rovers consolidated in the third tier last season with 14 wins, 11 draws and 21 defeats from 46 matches, finishing eight points above the relegation zone. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31287198.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_Joey-Barton.jpgFollowing a difficult start to this campaign, Barton's time at the Memorial Stadium has come to an end. During his final game in charge against Stevenage on Tuesday, Barton allegedly called rival boss Evans a "fat man" and a "weeble". Chris Martin earned The Gas a point in a fiercely contested clash after Jamie Reid opened the scoring. It wasn't the first time the duo have came to blows, either. Back in October 2022, Evans suggested that Rovers didn't deserve to get promoted from League Two. The ex-Leeds boss said that Scunthorpe's decision to field a youthful side on the final day "had no place in football" and added that Northampton "should be in League One", not Rovers. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31287305.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_Joey-Barton-2.jpgBarton ruthlessly responded to Evans' comments at the time. He told the Bristol Post: "It's a helluva lot different looking at the fixture list and seeing a trip to Pride Park and a trip Hillsborough, rather than Crawley and Stevenage and big Steve Evans charging up and down the touchline. JOEY BARTON'S BRFC MANAGERIAL RECORD - 22.02.2021 TO 26.10.2023 - P143, W53, D30, L60 = 37.1 WIN % - OMG THE END OF A TURBULENT ERA IN THE HISTORY OF BRFC.

Paul Hurst: Grimsby Town sack manager after fourth League Two loss in a row..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1E55/production/_131556770_gettyimages-1654106708-1.jpg Grimsby only won three of 16 League Two games under Paul Hurst this seasonGrimsby Town have sacked manager Paul Hurst after Saturday's League Two defeat at Doncaster Rovers. The 1-0 loss leaves the Mariners 21st in the table, having only won one of their past 10 league matches. Hurst, 49, was in his second spell in charge of the club having returned to Blundell Park in 2020 and guided them back into the EFL in 2022. "It is with sadness and disappointment that we've reached this point," said Grimsby's chair Jason Stockwood. He added: "We're proud of our achievements under their leadership: our promotion from the National League, the historic FA Cup run, and attaining our highest league position in 17 years. "However, it's time to embark on the next phase of the club's development." Hurst won promotion from the National League in the 2021-22 campaign via the play-offs, just as he did during his initial five-year spell in charge in 2016. Last season, Grimsby became the first fourth-tier side to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup since Cambridge United in 1990, but went on to lose 5-0 against Brighton and Hove Albion. Assistant manager Chris Doig has also left the club. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/4565/production/_131556771_gettyimages-1654106953.jpg

Adding to the post above: Gareth Ainsworth: QPR sack head coach after poor start to season..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7AAE/production/_131360413_hi088502657.jpg Gareth Ainsworth spent almost seven years as a player with QPR before moving to WycombeQueens Park Rangers have sacked head coach Gareth Ainsworth after a run of nine Championship games without a win left them six points from safety. The 50-year-old was appointed in February following 11 years at Wycombe. Ainsworth won only five of his 28 games in charge, and the R's have now lost six consecutive matches including Saturday's defeat by Leicester. Assistant boss Richard Dobson also leaves Rangers, with the club 22nd and with just eight points from 14 games. "Making a call such as this is never easy, and it is even more difficult when you have such respect on both a personal and professional level for the individuals concerned - which we all do for Gareth and Richard," chief executive Lee Hoos said. "Many supporters have told me in recent months that they have never wanted someone to succeed more than Gareth, which is an indication of the fondness everyone associated with QPR has for him. "Unfortunately, results this season haven't gone the way we all wanted and we feel a change is necessary." The appointment of a new head coach will follow "in the coming days", Hoos added in his statement. Asked by BBC Radio London after Saturday's defeat by the Foxes whether he expected to still be in charge despite another loss, Ainsworth said: "I can hold my head up high whether I'm here next week or not, saying I've given absolutely everything every single day. "I'm proud to be the manager of this fantastic football club but at the moment we are up against some really good teams, the club has changed over the years and hopefully there's some understanding in the fans. "If not, no worries. I can always hold my head up high and say I've given everything I could for this club and done the best I possibly could." QPR's form at home has been particularly poor, having gone 11 Championship matches without a win in front of their own fans - a run stretching back to last season and including nine losses. Yet their woes at Loftus Road predate Ainsworth's arrival, with just one victory in 22 games on home soil in all competitions since the start of November 2022. Rangers have only scored four goals at home this season, and they have not scored more than once in a home game since they overcame Wigan 2-1 on 22 October last year. Ainsworth did lead QPR to Championship survival last season, securing their place in the second tier by beating Stoke in their penultimate game, despite losing six of his first seven matches in charge.
