Neil Critchley: Blackpool reappoint former boss as head coach..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/14C48/production/_129846058_gettyimages-1245681139.jpgNeil Critchley was sacked after just over two months at QPRBlackpool have reappointed former boss Neil Critchley as head coach following their relegation from the Championship. The 44-year-old took the Seasiders up to the second tier via the League One play-offs in 2021 before leaving the club in June 2022 to join Steven Gerrard's staff at Aston Villa. He then had a 12-game stint in charge at QPR this season, winning just once, and was sacked in February. "It feels special to be back," Critchley told the club website. "Looking back on my departure 12 months ago, I didn't handle that in the manner I should have done. I enjoyed a fantastic relationship with Simon [Sadler - owner] previously, and I thank him for this wonderful opportunity to come back to this special football club. "I look at the club now, and it has had a bump in the road but there is no reason why we can't get back on track. It's up to us - and I include myself in that - to reset and become who we were as a group again." Stephen Dobbie will move back to his role as senior professional development phase coach, after his interim stint as first-team boss following the departure of Mick McCarthy in April. Dobbie was unable to save Blackpool from the drop as they finished 23rd in the Championship. Critchley's impact in his first spell was quickly felt at Bloomfield Road, despite it being his first managerial role having predominantly worked as a development coach at Liverpool. He took over from Simon Grayson in March 2020 and having steered the Tangerines to a mid-table finish in League One, rebuilt the squad and won promotion the following season. Jerry Yates scored 20 goals on his arrival from Rotherham, while Keshi Anderson and Marvin Ekpiteta both became first-team regulars, as a third-place finish and victory in the play-off final against Lincoln took Blackpool back to the Championship. The signing of Everton winger Josh Bowler was another example of shrewd recruitment, as he played a key role in retaining their Championship status, before joining Premier League Nottingham Forest for a fee of about £4m last summer. "After an extensive recruitment process, which included many interviews with various candidates over the past few weeks, I kept coming back to Neil as being the right man to take us forward," owner Simon Sadler said. "He gained promotion with us, kept us in the Championship in our first season back in the division and has an impressive record when it comes to developing players. "He was the clear front-runner for the position and I hope everyone gets behind him and the squad as we push to get back into the Championship. "I'd also like to thank Stephen Dobbie for stepping up for the final six matches of the season. He did a wonderful job in what were challenging circumstances, and I am confident he will have a successful career in first-team management in the years to come."

Mauricio Pochettino: Chelsea appoint ex-Tottenham boss as new manager..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/66BB/production/_129899262_gettyimages-1383827516.jpgChelsea have appointed former Tottenham and Paris St-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager. The Argentine, 51, begins his new role on 1 July 2023 on a two-year contract, with an option of a further year. Interim boss Frank Lampard took Chelsea to 12th in the Premier League - their lowest finish for more than 25 years. "Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board," the club said. Chelsea say Pochettino was first choice and the only manager who was brought into the club for talks. He will work with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart. "Mauricio's experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward," Winstanley and Stewart said in a statement. "He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate."

So " big Sam" walks out on Leeds united... Lost cause basically, only for the money comes to mind...and " relegation not my fault" maybe not but the money was good for the bank!! Confirmed - Sam Allardyce: Leeds United manager leaves club after Premier League relegation..ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/2/830939ed-f9f2-4847-9f5c-e7d81ad5e966.jpgSam Allardyce has left Leeds United after the club confirmed he would not be continuing beyond the end of his temporary contract. The former Bolton and West Ham manager was brought in as replacement for Javi Gracia with four game remaining of the Premier League season. But the 68-year-old was unable to lead them to safety after picking up one point from a possible 12. "Leeds United and Sam Allardyce can confirm that both parties have mutually agreed for Sam's spell at the club to end following the completion of the 2022/23 season," read the club statement.

Steve Cotterill: Shrewsbury Town manager's departure confirmed by League One club..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1843/production/_130011260_shutterstock_editorial_13894378ae.jpgShrewsbury Town manager Steve Cotterill has left the League One club after two and a half years in charge. The 58-year-old was appointed in November 2020 and guided Town to 12th in 2022-23, the club's best finish for five seasons. Cotterill missed the second half of the 2020-21 campaign after spending 33 days in hospital with Covid-19. "I am confident this team will continue its progression next season," he said in a statement. Shrewsbury was Cotterill's ninth managerial job, with Stoke City, Burnley, Birmingham City ,Nottingham Forest and Bristol City among his former clubs. BBC Radio Shropshire reported last week that Cotterill was set to leave the club after choosing to depart and his exit was confirmed in a brief statement on Tuesday. "Steve Cotterill has left his post as first-team manager," it said.. "The club would like to place on record their thanks to Steve for all his hard work and commitment during the last two and a half years, taking us from a relegation place in League One to 12th in the table and also for working from his hospital bed during the Covid-19 pandemic." In his statement, released through the League Managers' Association, Cotterill said he was proud of the work that had been done during his time at the club. "Working through Covid was tough and I have to thank my incredible staff for their help throughout," he added. "I would also like to thank the players. It is a fantastic group that gave me absolutely everything, right up to the last game of the season. The relationship I had with them was very special. "When I joined Shrewsbury Town, I wanted to create a connection between the supporters and the team. Thankfully, after a lot of hard work and your help we achieved that." Chairman Roland Wycherley said: "From time to time, circumstances arise when difficult and unpopular decisions have to be made to safeguard the very future of our club. "We currently find ourselves in such a position and we would be failing in our duty if we shirk those decisions." He added: "Going forward, be assured that management structures and new football strategies are already in place - the rationale for the actions we have taken will become evident in the coming weeks and months." Cotterill's departure comes a month after chief executive Brian Caldwell left. "The club has lost a good guy. I will miss him without a shadow of a doubt," Cotterill told BBC Radio Shropshire at the time. "When I came here two and a half years ago, the chairman said he wanted me and Brian to work closely together - and we did just that. He was very supportive, especially when I had Covid."

New direction for new Bournemouth owner..ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/19/dcedb0d8-c947-46bc-a72f-88f537af9fb4.jpgBusinessman Bill Foley completed his takeover of Bournemouth in December. It's the first major call made by the American, who owns the 2023 Stanley Cup-winning NHL franchise the Vegas Golden Knights, as he looks to "build upon Bournemouth's recent accomplishments". Foley said in a statement: "As a club, we have put plans in place for long-term success with improvements being made to infrastructure, most notably the development of a new state-of-the-art training facility and the ongoing discussions around upgrades to our stadium. "We have also identified a number of significant targets in the transfer market this summer and believe this change in direction will provide us with the best platform from which to build. "Gary will go on to have a long career as a head coach or manager, but we feel that, at this moment in time, a change is in the best interests of this football club. "I would like to place on record my thanks to Gary and wish him all the best for the future." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/19/9244ca92-29c2-4da0-8cc6-78282b8d549d.jpgWhat do you think about the Gary O'Neil sacking ?Absolutely ludicrous decision by Bournemouth. O'Neil averaged more than a point a game with one of the worst squads ever to play in the Premier League. He did wonders there and was up there with one of best managers of last season given the squad he had. They should have backed him with some transfers this window to improve the squad and sure he could have pushed them slightly further up the table. Would love to see Crystal Palace make a move for him if Roy Hodgson isn't staying on...(Anonymous) When will these wealthy business people with very little or zero football knowledge maybe, just maybe, put the footballing decisions in the hands of those who do have football knowledge and experience? They expect miracles on the pitch and better balance sheets off it, and it just doesn't work like that. The funny thing is that Gary O'Neil will get a payoff and another job no problem...(Marc, Villa fan) Gary O'Neil couldn't have done more with Bournemouth, they came ahead of huge clubs like Leicester and Leeds. 15th is their ceiling level unless they seriously invest in the team, training and move to a new stadium.and even then they're competing with billionaire owners. As a Reading fan, I'm wondering whether he would manage us? Not sure as our owners don't inspire confidence...(Elliot, Wokingham) This sacking may seem harsh but as a Bournemouth fan I am definitely not disappointed. O'Neil did a good job in achieving his objective of Premier League survival but we were terrible for long stretches of the season and he totally failed to fix any of our weaknesses - for example looking like conceding from every single set piece all season. I would rather he was replaced now than 10 games into next season....(Ed) Owners prerogative but it’s a risky move, hope for Bournemouth fans it’s been advised from a football person as part of a larger change of style and not just because they want a bigger name. Foley will get all the blame if they go down this season...(Matt, Croydon) Gary O'Neil: Will be weird going from rooting for a club all season, to hoping they finish dead last the next...(Graeme, Scotland)

'A random time, but almost a good time to sack the manager'..BBC Radio Solent's Rob Sills on Gary O'Neil's sacking as Bournemouth manager.ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/19/980e3bc7-c8ac-43be-89d5-07af67460c14.jpg"Keeping them in the Premier League he was everyone’s hero, he was everyone’s favourite son at Vitality Stadium a few months ago. "Obviously now times have changed and I think it does seem to be quite a random time to sack the manager, but also in the same breath it’s almost a good time at the start of a new pre-season. "The transfer window has just opened so clearly Bournemouth are thinking ahead, they are thinking how can they best prepare? "They must have certain transfer targets they want to lure in and the best way to do that is potentially bring in a manager with a slightly higher calibre - but that is still yet to be seen." ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/3d99/live/8bad8a70-0e9b-11ee-9e94-25f17ea6acca.png

Darren Moore: Sheffield Wednesday boss leaves by mutual consent after two years..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/5A2C/production/_130148032_shutterstock_editorial_13934108gm.jpgSheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore has left the club less than a month after guiding them to promotion to the Championship. The 49-year-old joined the Owls in March 2021 and led them to victory in May's League One play-off final against Barnsley. In addition, Moore's backroom staff have also left Hillsborough. "Both parties believe that now is the right time we go our separate ways," chairman Dejphon Chansiri said. "The journey of Sheffield Wednesday with Darren has been in many ways unique and always as a team. In the football industry, journeys come to an end and now is that time, which we both agree. "The mutual respect we have for each other is immense on a personal and professional basis and I offer my sincere thanks for the dedication and commitment Darren has given to our club."

Michael Duff: Swansea City name Barnsley manager as new boss..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9143/production/_130178173_gettyimages-1466120698.jpgSwansea City have named Barnsley's Michael Duff as their new head coach. The Championship club had lined up the former Northern Ireland and Burnley defender as a successor to Russell Martin, who has joined Southampton. Duff, who won the League Two title with Cheltenham in 2021, led Barnsley to the League One play-off final last month. The 45-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Swansea, who have had to pay compensation to the Tykes for his services. "Michael has a proven track record of galvanising a group of players into a collective unit, and he has consistently outperformed expectations at his previous clubs," said Swansea chairman Andy Coleman. "Every conversation I had with him only reinforced the view that he is exactly the type of leader we need here at Swansea City. "He is a proven winner, both as a player and as a manager, and I'm confident he will bring that mentality here. "I believe in his ability and his belief in the Swansea way, while he also possesses the capability to adapt within games to drive results. "This is a results-driven business. Our position in the table matters to all of us and we are focused on supporting Michael with everything he needs to succeed."

The 41-year-old joins Town in his first managerial position since being sacked by Walsall in February 2022. He succeeds Steve Cotterill, who guided Town to 12th last season before exiting after two and a half years in charge. "What's important now is that everyone understands just how hungry I am for this opportunity," Taylor said. "I'm very aware the football club has a successful playing style - something that has worked when you look at the finish last season "There is a lot that is going right at the football club. So, what do I want to bring? "I hope to allow the players to really express themselves. There are some exceptional footballers here and part of my role is to give them a platform and a structure so they can go and express themselves and entertain our loyal supporters. "If I look back at my career and what made me successful - it was hard work and energy."

The 40-year-old Spaniard will take over subject to him obtaining a visa, which the club applied for last week. Selles took charge of Southampton following Nathan Jones' departure in February but only won two of his 17 matches at the helm as Saints finished bottom of the Premier League. Hannah Dingley: Forest Green Rovers name first female boss of a men's professional football side..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/13B3A/production/_130289608_shutterstock_editorial_12605575cv.jpgForest Green Rovers have named Hannah Dingley as their new caretaker boss, making her the first woman to manage a professional men's team in English football. The League Two side sacked Duncan Ferguson on Tuesday after just six months in charge. Forest Green announced Dingley, the club's academy head, would be put in caretaker charge of the first team. Her first match in charge will be a friendly at Melksham Town on Wednesday. The 39-year-old said: "I'm really excited for this next step of my career. Pre-season has just begun, and the full season kicks off very soon. "It's an exciting time in football. I am grateful for the opportunity to step up and lead such a progressive and forward-thinking club." She first joined the club in 2019 to take charge of the academy and remains the only woman to manage a men's English Football League academy. Dingley also initiated the club's girls academy which launched in 2021. She has a Uefa Pro Licence and previously worked at Burton Albion "Hannah was the natural choice for us to be first team interim head coach - she's done a fantastic job leading our academy and is well aligned with the values of the club," club chairman Dale Vince said "It's perhaps telling for the men's game that in making this appointment on merit, we'll break new ground - and Hannah will be the first female head coach in English [men's] football." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/1E04/production/_129148670_shutterstock_editorial_12605575l.jpg.................................................................................................................................................................... Duncan Ferguson: Forest Green Rovers boss leaves after less than six months..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/14D00/production/_130284258_shutterstock_editorial_13891691n.jpgDuncan Ferguson has left his role as Forest Green Rovers head coach after less than six months in charge. The former Everton assistant manager and player was appointed in January with the club bottom of League One. They were subsequently relegated to the fourth tier in April, with Ferguson overseeing one win in 18 matches. The 51-year-old had signed a five-year contract with the Gloucestershire side and had talked about his and the club's long-term plans after their relegation. "It's been a privilege to work with Dunc these last few months and this was a very difficult decision to make," said Forest Green owner Dale Vince. "I'm grateful to Dunc for joining us in such difficult circumstances and for all of his hard work at the club. "But I feel this is overall the right decision for everyone and I wish Dunc well in his next coaching role. We are parting as friends. You can't ask for much more than that." Ferguson scored 73 goals for Everton as a player in two spells between 1994 and 2006 and was also capped seven times by Scotland. He joined the Toffees coaching staff in 2014 and twice acted as caretaker manager before leaving the club last summer to pursue his first managerial position. While Forest Green returned straight to League Two after one season in the third tier, Ferguson had been talking about rebuilding for next season - with three players brought in so far this summer transfer window. Newly appointed chief executive, Marcus Reynolds, also spoke about the club needing "stability and progress" going forward.
