Fletcher's acrobatic first-half finish proved decisive as the visitors failed to turn their possession into goals, The visitors thought they had equalised, but David McGoldrick's effort was ruled out for handball. Wrexham rise a place to third in League Two, two points behind second-placed Mansfield and three behind Stockport. Notts County drop two places to ninth as new manager Stuart Maynard suffered a first loss. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "It was a hard game, Notts are a good side, we know that. There is always an edge between the two teams. I thought it was a really good game and a great advert for the division. "In the second half I thought we upped our game for the first 20 minutes, we needed that next goal and it didn't come in that period. "Obviously towards the end Notts are going to throw caution to the wind and we had to go back into that disciplined mindset. "I thought the lads put in a real shift today."

Tuesday 20th February 2024 - League 2
MK Dons 1 Wrexham 1 (McClean 22, Boyle sent off 77)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7153/production/_132711092_gettyimages-2027665368.jpgWrexham missed an opportunity to close the gap on the League Two leaders as the points were shared away at MK Dons. James McLean put Wrexham ahead with a diving header before Dan Kemp lashed home from 12 yards to level for Dons. Dons captain Dean Lewington - on his 900th appearance for the club - was sent off on the hour mark after a confrontation with referee Sam Purkiss. And both sides finished with 10 men as Will Boyle picked up a second yellow card late in the game for a foul. MK Dons remain in fifth in League Two, three points behind Wrexham who stay in third. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Radio Wales:"It was some game of football, two good sides again, I was pleased with the early exchanges, our pressing was good. "We got the goal and out of nothing they got one back, their goal gave them a lift and Arthur Okonkwo has had to make some good save. "Second half I thought we played really well, at 11 v 10 we looked like we were going to score so the Boyle sending off evened the game up which is a shame."

Gillingham 1 Wrexham 0ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11C93/production/_132715827_gettyimages-2027652947.jpgTimothee Dieng's winner sent Gillingham into the League Two play-off places and pushed Wrexham out of the automatic promotions spots. Home goalkeeper Glenn Morris denied Jacob Mendy in the early stages. But there was no stopping Dieng at the other end as he broke the deadlock after the break from a set piece. Morris also kept Steven Fletcher's bicycle kick at bay and Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson made a glut of changes as he sought an equaliser in vain. Gillingham ended the afternoon seventh while Wrexham dropped from third to fourth. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Sport Wales:"It's another game where we've had so much good possession in good areas and haven't produced, we need to rediscover that killer instinct. "We did a lot of good things but that clinical edge we need to rediscover, it's about making the right decisions. We're passing when we should shoot and shooting when we should pass. "It got a bit scrappy towards the end but we had enough situations to score two or three today."

Tuesday 27th February 2024 - League 2
FGR 1 Wrexham 1 (Mullin 90+3 pen) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4EC5/production/_132756102_gettyimages-2043807484-1.jpgPaul Mullin rescued a point for Wrexham deep into stoppage time after winning and converting a penalty to earn a 1-1 draw at Forest Green Rovers on a foggy night in Gloucestershire. Struggling Forest Green were minutes from a third win in four matches thanks to Emmanuel Osadebe's sweetly-struck shot after just three minutes. Forest Green defended stoutly and looked set to seal a surprising win. However, Mullin was fouled by Jamie Robson and smashed home the penalty. The result has big ramifications at both ends of the League Two table. Forest Green came close to a win that would've moved them to within one point of safety, but the draw leaves them three points adrift in 23rd, while fourth-placed Wrexham missed out on the chance to climb back into the automatic promotion places. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "We had loads of possession and loads of good positions, but we struggled to work the goalkeeper enough. "It wasn't for the lack of trying. We just couldn't find that bit of quality. "They were organised and structured and worked exceptionally hard to stop us, but we kept going and never hid from the ball. There was no lack of trying to make it happen. We got the moment eventually, and it could be an important point for us. "At the moment we're having a period where we're not producing, we know that, but it will come. We need something like the penalty tonight to get us up and running again."

Saturday 2nd March 2024 - League 2
Wrexham 4 (Mullin 17, 25, 35, Lee 41) Accrington Stanley 0 (Shipley sent off 90+1)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/6D04/production/_132180972_gettyimages-1654678344.jpgPaul Mullin struck a first-half hat-trick as Wrexham hammered Accrington Stanley at The Stok Racecourse to move into the automatic promotion spots. The striker's instincts brought him the three goals in an 18-minute spell, as Wrexham refound their clinical edge. Top goalscorer Elliot Lee added the a fourth for Wrexham before the break. Lewis Shipley and Tommy Leigh were among the visitors to see chances go begging as Accrington dropped two places to 16th in League Two. Shipley was sent off in added time Victory for Wrexham paired with a defeat for Crewe sees the Welsh side rise a place to third. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson: "[I'm] pleased, a really good performance from the lads and yes, it's a great win. "I've been saying we've dominated a lot of games without really getting our rewards, but we've kept believing that dominance will be turned into goals because in the last few years, it normally has. "It's probably the first time where we've had periods where we haven't punished teams and today, we were excellent in around that final third, which is obviously the most important part of the football pitch. " Mulls [Mullin] was brilliant today. He was back to his sharpest."

Paul Mullin: Striker not driven by records as he reaches Wrexham top 10..By Chris Wathan, BBC Sport Wales.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16B74/production/_132844039_gettyimages-1914909018.jpgPaul Mullin says he is not interested in records despite entering the list of Wrexham's greatest goalscorers. Mullin's hat-trick against Accrington Stanley led co-chairman Rob McElhenney to claim the striker has "inspired millions of people all over the world". It also took Mullin's goal tally for the Hollywood-owned League Two side to 95, placing him 10th in the all-time scoring charts for Wales' oldest club. "Records don't tend to drive me on," Mullin said. "It's just a personal thing - I want to score because I want to win." Club legend Tommy Bamford leads Wrexham's all-time list of leading scorers with an incredible 207, a tally which included 16 hat-tricks. Mullin's 95 goals for Wrexham have come in just 129 games since he signed from Cambridge in 2021. His Accrington treble last weekend was his sixth Wrexham hat-trick. Mullin has 16 goals in 2023-24, which did not begin for him until September as a result of a punctured lung suffered in pre-season. "It's not bad after missing 10 games at the start of the season," the 29-year-old said. "I always want to do better. I did 47 [goals] last year. It'll be tough to beat that, but that's still the aim." Mullin went eight games without scoring - his longest barren run since arriving at the Racecourse - before ending the drought with a last-minute penalty at Forest Green last week. Manager Phil Parkinson suggested that goal has lifted the Wales-eligible forward going into the Accrington game. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E02F/production/_131819375_shutterstock_editorial_14228825n.jpgBut Mullin said: "It was not so much a personal boost to be honest, I don't tend to worry if I haven't scored goals in a couple of games. "If you're not getting the chances to put them away, then there's not much you can do about it. I felt fine and I knew goals were going to come eventually. Every team goes through spells like that." Parkinson revealed after the Accrington win that Mullin was to due have injections because of a problem he has been nursing around his back and hamstring. "I've had it for a couple of months,," Mullin said. "It's more from my back. It's not something that bothers me too much when I'm playing and the adrenalin takes over. "It's more just the morning after, but it's something I'm looking to take care of."

Wrexham to face Chelsea in pre-season friendly at San Francisco 49ers' stadium..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/22DF/production/_132872980_gettyimages-1556947933.jpg Chelsea won 5-0 when they faced Wrexham in a pre-season friendly in North Carolina in 2023Wrexham will return to the United States in the summer after announcing another pre-season friendly with Chelsea in California. The match will be held at Levi's Stadium, home of Super Bowl runners-up the San Francisco 49ers, in Santa Clara on Wednesday, 24th July. Wrexham will play two other games on the trip, with details to follow. The League Two club toured the US last year, facing the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. Wrexham enjoy strong American support thanks to their film-star owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - who bought the Welsh club in 2021 - and the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham. "It is great to be playing Wrexham once again, following the success of last year's encounter in Chapel Hill," said Chelsea chief executive officer Chris Jurasek. "We look forward to playing in front of our loyal supporters based in California at the Levi's Stadium, which is sure to create a wonderful atmosphere." Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "We're looking forward to returning to the United States for our summer tour, and the match against Chelsea promises to be an exciting and memorable occasion - as well as an important part of our pre-season preparations. "It was a great privilege to meet fans in the US last summer, and we're excited to see more of our passionate supporters in San Francisco in July." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/13BAC/production/_130521808_gettyimages-1555044370.jpg

Saturday 9th March 2024 - League Two
Morecambe 1 (Melbourne 49 sent off) Wrexham 3 (McClean 32, Mullin 55 pen, Fletcher 80)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/36FD/production/_132877041_mclean.jpg James McClean's goal at Morecambe was his fourth of the season in all competitions for WrexhamWrexham remain in the League Two automatic promotion spots courtesy of a 3-1 comeback win at Morecambe. Ged Garner put the hosts ahead after just four minutes before James McClean levelled proceedings. The Shrimps had Max Melbourne sent off before Paul Mullin notched his 17th goal of the season from the penalty spot following a handball. Substitute Steven Fletcher capped off a fine away performance with his eighth goal of the season late on. Victory means Wrexham stay third with just 10 league matches left to play this season. Morecambe sit 10th, one point adrift of the play-off places. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson:"They're (Morecambe) a team in form and fancy their chances of getting into the play-offs. It's a bad start for us and it took us a little while to get going but as the second half wore on we got better and better. "We needed to scrap out a result in those conditions and I felt we did that really well today. "I'm very pleased with the professionalism of the team today. We've come through it with a great win."

Ollie Palmer: Wrexham striker savouring starting record after understanding team role..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C42A/production/_132881205_palmerbody.jpg Ollie Palmer has netted six goals in all competitions for Wrexham so far this seasonOllie Palmer feels he is reaping the rewards of being patient after Wrexham maintained their stunning run with the striker in their starting line-up. The Dragons came from behind to beat Morecambe 3-1 on Saturday, keeping Phil Parkinson's side third in League Two. The victory also means Wrexham maintain their record of not having lost a league match in which Palmer has started this season. Asked about the record, Palmer said: "Not just this season." He added: "It's good to be involved, I know my role within the team." Palmer's outing at Morecambe was his 17th league start of the 2023-24 campaign, with Wrexham unbeaten in those fixtures. Indeed, the Dragons have not lost the previous 42 league matches when the forward has started - a run stretching back to a 1-0 defeat at Notts County in October 2022. And Palmer, 32, believes a month spent on the sidelines with injury over the festive period has helped him maintain his remarkable record. "Everyone wants to play but we've got a big squad," he added. "With hindsight maybe it's been nice to have a bit of a rest to come back flying and trying to help the team as much as I can now." Goals from James McClean, Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher earned Wrexham all three points at Morecambe after Ged Garner had given the hosts an early lead. The victory came after Wrexham had won only one of their last seven League Two matches away from home. But Palmer is not concerned by talk of Wrexham's struggles on the road this term. "I don't think our away form is as bad as people make out," he explained. "If you're going to refer to yourselves as one of the top teams in the league, obviously we want to try and be right up there, but we're probably seventh or eighth in the [away] form table, which is not horrendous. "If you want to get to where we want to get to, we know we've got to better that. "We have fantastic home form, but you can't have everything." Wrexham return to action against Harrogate Town at the Racecourse on Tuesday night. Parkinson's men boast the best home record in the fourth tier having won 13 of the 17 League Two matches on their own patch so far this season. And Palmer says that with 10 matches of the regular season remaining, the Wrexham squad can relish the run-in. "A big 10 games to go and it's really important that everyone stays tuned in and fit," he added.

Tuesday 12th March 2024 - League Two
Wrexham 0 Harrogate Town 0
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0D48/production/_132900430_paul.jpg Wrexham had won ten of their last 11 home league games prior to the clash with Harrogate TownWrexham rose to second but missed the chance to go joint-top of League Two after a frustrating draw with Harrogate Town. Chances were limited in the opening half at the Racecourse, with Ollie Palmer and Will Boyle going closest in the second half. But neither side could find a winner as Phil Parkinson's men were held to a goalless draw at home in the league for the first time since November 2021. Wrexham sit second, Harrogate are 14th. Something clearly had to give between the sides, with Wrexham boasting the best home record in League Two while Harrogate had the second-best away form in the division. Derrick Abu and George Thomson both had efforts for Town early on, with Boyle and Elliot Lee having the best openings for the hosts in what was a cagey affair. The contest was finely balanced after a goalless first half, although clear cut chances remained at a premium in the early stages after half time. Wrexham did improve though, with striker Palmer firing a low effort wide after latching on to Lee's through ball. James Belshaw then kept out a Boyle header as the home side pushed for a late winner. Parkinson was dealt a blow in the 73rd minute as James McClean was yellow carded for a cynical foul, meaning he is suspended for his side's matches with Tranmere Rovers and Grimsby Town. And Wrexham failed to find a late goal as they had to settle for a share of the spoils, with Town not managing a single shot on target in north Wales. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson:"I think we did a lot of things right, we dominated the game, but the crossing was not of the standard it needed to be to create enough chances. "I thought the lads gave everything, there was nothing left out there tonight, but we just couldn't find that killer moment to open the game up. "We know Harrogate have done well away from home all season, they sit in, they make it difficult. They worked hard, you've got to give them credit for that, but really it was a game that, on the balance of play, we should have won comfortably."

Saturday 16th March 2024 - League Two
Wrexham 0 Tranmere Rovers 1 (Norris 8)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0A04/production/_132946520_gettyimages-2079452501.jpg Wrexham have won just two of their last seven games in League TwoLuke Norris' early strike earned Tranmere Rovers a shock win at League Two promotion challengers Wrexham. Norris' pace caught out the home defence and he produced a classy finish from Regan Hendry's well-placed assist. Elliot Lee and Jordan Davies were among those to be thwarted at the other end late on as Wrexham searched in vain for an equaliser. The visitors rose two places to 14th after a fourth successive unbeaten game while Wrexham dropped a spot to third. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "We had some great moments where we needed to do better, we need to look at that. "To have 25 attempts on goal, I don't think many teams will have had that, but only four were on target which is not enough for the quality we've got. "Football is all about taking chances and we weren't able to do that."

Wrexham still in the mix for promotion says manager Phil Parkinson..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/3755/production/_132956141_gettyimages-2043644349-1.jpg Phil Parkinson was appointed Wrexham manager in July 2021Manager Phil Parkinson says Wrexham must prepare for an "eight-game season" as they chase promotion to League One. Wrexham are third in the League Two table after a goalless draw at home to Harrogate followed by 1-0 defeat by Tranmere Rovers. They remain in the automatic promotion places but are level on points with fourth placed Milton Keynes Dons. "It's a very, very tight division. Very competitive and we're in the mix, where we want to be," said Parkinson. "We could be in a much stronger position after these two home games [Harrogate and Tranmere] but we're not, so we look at the league table and say 'OK. it's just an eight-game season' and we've got to be ready for that." Luke Norris' early strike earned Tranmere a shock win at the Stok Racecourse on Saturday and Parkinson's side must pick themselves up for a midweek trip to Grimsby Town. "This week going to Grimsby, we have to have the same kind of spirit and intensity and fighting spirit but have a little bit more coolness in and around the opposition box and if we do that like against Morecambe, like we have done in the past then we will punish teams," Parkinson added. "There's so much to play for - this isn't a defining defeat [against Tranmere]. "Obviously, a local derby, we know what it means for supporters, players and staff as well but it's not a season-defining defeat. We're in a strong position. "We have to dust ourselves down and come back against Grimsby next week and get ready to go again." Asked if he would have taken this potion if offered at the start of the season, Parkinson said: "We certainly would. "Obviously it doesn't feel like that at this moment because we've just lost a local derby but the effort of the boys, trying to do the right things, I can't fault that. They have given so much. "It's still all to play for but defeats, you've just got to take them. "It hurts but we'll come back and we'll be ready to go at Grimsby next week with a really spirited performance and if we play like we have done today and against Harrogate and Morecambe, we won't be far off. "We've got a staff and players who have been here before, but it's key moments in games, when you get to this stage of the season it's about making the right decisions. "Whether it's the manager, making the right decisions or a player in that final third, just picking the right pass."

Phil Parkinson: Wrexham must forget 'frustration' of defeat..By Aled Williams, BBC Sport Wales.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/5E40/production/_132282142_gettyimages-1910719432.jpgManager Phil Parkinson says Wrexham cannot let the "frustration" of recent results affect them in the closing weeks of the League Two campaign. Wrexham lost 1-0 at home to Tranmere last Saturday having been held to a goalless draw by Harrogate in the previous game. Parkinson's side are third ahead of Saturday's trip to Grimsby. "We've got to make sure we don't let the frustration of the defeat affect us going into the next game," he said. "You analyse the game back, with the emotion taken out of it, and the reason we didn't win was because not a large percentage of our decision making was good enough. "Some of it was excellent and we still produced some real moments of quality but probably not enough for the pressure we had. "Secondly Tranmere defended incredibly well, some of the last-ditch blocks that they got were probably a level that won't defend like it again this season and thirdly nothing fell for us in the box. "But if we keep playing in the manner that we've done, improve our decision making and also increase our ratio of hitting the target then something's going to fall for us." Parkinson has insisted his team remain "in the mix" in the League Two title race despite failing to win their last two games. The manager said that Saturday's game at Grimsby Town was the start of an "eight-game season" for the Dragons, who won last season's National League title. "At this stage of the season there's that added importance because we're in that countdown period," Parkinson added. "It's a very important game like the last eight are going to be. "We're looking to go there to build on the Morecambe win." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/103EA/production/_132983566_gettyimages-1543064309.jpgTom O'Connor, who made his comeback for the reserves in midweek, joined Wrexham from Burton Albion in January 2022Midfielder Tom O'Connor played an hour in the reserve side's 7-1 win over Salford City in midweek having recovered from a broken foot he suffered against Newport County in January. Ryan Barnett has had a scan on a foot injury that forced him to go off following a heavy tackle in the loss to Tranmere Rovers. Parkinson said it was a "relief" that the scan had shown there was no break and that the winger would be monitored on a daily basis. Defender Callum McFadzean has been added to Wrexham's EFL squad for the remainder of the season. The 30-year-old missed out on a place in the squad, limited to 22 players, for the league campaign last September. "There was a space spare and Callum's been working very hard and done really well in training," Parkinson added. "One of the reasons he got left out initially was because he hadn't recovered from his injury at the back end of last year in pre-season. "He was playing a bit of catch-up and then we obviously had to make the decision and he fell the wrong side of that."

Saturday 23rd March 2024 - League Two
Grimsby Town 1 Wrexham 3 (Cannon 5, 36, Mullin 42)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1837F/production/_132999199_shutterstock_editorial_14399180ag.jpg Andy Cannon's two goals at Grimsby took his season's tally to five in all competitionsAndy Cannon scored twice as Wrexham returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Grimsby Town. Wrexham's work was done during a first half in which Cannon's brace and Paul Mullin's volley put them firmly in control. Grimsby pulled a goal back nine minutes from time, Arthur Gnahoua scoring. The win sees Phil Parkinson's side move up to second in League Two, three points behind leaders Mansfield Town. Grimsby remain 21st, five points above the relegation zone. Wrexham's win was a timely boost after failure to win their previous two games - a goalless draw against Harrogate Town and a 1-0 loss at home to Tranmere Rovers. Cannon's opening goal came five minutes into the game, an effort from 20 yards which gave keeper Harvey Cartwright no chance. The midfielder unleashed an unstoppable drive to double his side's lead after good work from Mullin and the returning Tom O'Connor. Mullin's volley from close range completed an emphatic and ruthless first-half display from the visitors. Gnahoua scored a consolation late on for Grimsby, who finished strongly, but Wrexham held on for a valuable three points. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "First half I thought was outstanding in very difficult conditions, which was always going to impact on the game. "But I thought the professionalism the game management was very good today, particularly in the first half. "It was going to be a first and second ball game and making the right decisions in the conditions but when the moments came it was important that we showed the quality that we did to create those chances and ultimately take them."

Paul Mullin: Wrexham striker wants promotion over personal 100-goal milestone..

Mullin, 29, is three goals shy of reaching a century for Wrexham after scoring in the 3-1 win at Grimsby Town. The Dragons are third in League Two, three points behind leaders Mansfield Town, who they host on Good Friday. "If I didn't score another goal and we went up then my job's done," Mullin said. "It will be a great achievement, but it's not something I really think about. "It will be lovely to get there as quickly as possible, but equally if I don't get there at all but we keep winning every week then I'll be happy." Wrexham's win at Blundell Park came after they failed to win in their previous two home games - a goalless draw against Harrogate Town and a 1-0 loss to Tranmere. Phil Parkinson's side have seven games remaining, starting with a home game against leaders Mansfield on Friday. "They're a brilliant side and have been brilliant all season," Mullin added. "It's up to us to go and give a really good account of ourselves and hopefully go and win the game. "If we win every game we'll be promoted. It's not going to be simple as that, it's going to be a really tough challenge. "Everyone's going to be up for the fight in our changing room and in other changing rooms also. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E02F/production/_131819375_shutterstock_editorial_14228825n.jpg"It's going to be a really exciting end to the season. "But I don't worry about the other teams - we concentrate on ourselves." Manager Parkinson has previously said Wrexham must 'enjoy' the pressure of the League Two title race. Mullin, who joined from Cambridge United in the summer of 2021, does not feel the heavy burden of expectation. "Sometimes it does feel like it's a lot of pressure on me to deliver," Mullin said. "But also I put that pressure on myself. "I think that's where I thrive, being under pressure. I really enjoy being in those situations where you overcome them. "It's something that I embrace and something that I love doing. "If you haven't got pressure in your job then you're not doing the right job." Paul Mullin Career Stats: Age: 29, Played: 436, Goals: 183, Clubs: Vauxhall Motors, Morecambe, Swindon, Tranmere, Cambridge and Wrexham

Doncaster looked lively early on, playing with the confidence of a side who have won their last four league games on the bounce. Home winger Luke Molyneux showed real pace down their right hand side and set up Maxime Biamou for a shot which was blocked by the impressive Wrexham defender Eoghan O’Connell. Needless to say, Paul Mullin has already shown his predatory instincts with a snapshot from the edge of the box which went wide. Wrexham’s best chance fell to Ollie Palmer who headed wide, after defender Will Boyle had risen at the far post to turn a teasing Elliott Lee free kick back across goal. All the time the Wrexham travelling contingent were in good vocal form kept in rhythm by a persistent drummer. GOAL: Doncaster 1-0 Wrexham - Owen Bailey (44 mins)Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has wasted no time in making a change with wing-back Luke Bolton replaced by Ryan Barnett down the right-hand side. The visitors are playing towards the travelling fans now and, sensing the promotion-chasers need help, the volume has increased. It almost worked as defender Will Boyle headed just wide from close range. For all that, Wrexham were grateful to see goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo claim the ball from a shot after a goalmouth scramble. Wrexham have come on strongly in the closing stages. Paul Mullin thought he had reached his 100-goal mark for the club from a corner slung in low from the right-hand side. But the celebrations of the 2,240 travelling fans were curt short when an assistant’s flag rose for offside! FULL-TIME - Doncaster 1-0 Wrexham

Saturday 6th April 2024 - League 2
Colchester United 1 Wrexham 2 (Mullin 62, Cleworth 85)

After a bright but goalless first half, John Akinde put Colchester ahead with a fine half-volley into the far corner. But Mullin soon levelled with a close-range header from Ryan Barnett's cross. A point would have moved Colchester out of the relegation places on goal difference, but Max Cleworth's late header to snatch victory for Wrexham was a hammer blow to the hosts' hopes. Wrexham are now three points clear of fourth-placed Mansfield Town, who suffered a 4-1 loss at home to Crawley Town to fall out of the automatic promotion places. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/105F4/production/_133106076_shutterstock_editorial_14421014ba.jpgWrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:"I thought the lads responded really well to going a goal down, it's a difficult place to come. "It was all about character today, we went a goal down and we responded brilliantly... Colchester are a lot better than the league position suggests. "Once again we've had to dig deep and show that Wrexham resilience which we're renowned for."

Wrexham: Ryan Reynolds' club set up promotion sequel..By Chris Wathan, BBC Sport Wales.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/18539/production/_133114699_shutterstock_editorial_14421014cg.jpg Wrexham could claim successive promotions for the first timeHollywood has always loved a good sequel. And, true to form, the club owned by red carpet stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are close to wrapping up promotion: part two. Having jumped from the National League last season, Wrexham could seal a place in League One this weekend. Victory over bottom side Forest Green - if results elsewhere work out - would earn the first back-to-back promotions in the club's 159-year history. "It would be very nice. There's not many clubs who've achieved that," said assistant manager Steve Parkin after Tuesday's confident 4-1 win over play-off chasing Crawley. It is an impressive feat, but not totally uncommon. Since the start of direct promotion from non-league, some 10 sides have managed to achieve the jump from fifth to third tier in the space of two years, Tranmere Rovers the last to do so five years ago. Of course, none had the profile of Wrexham, who are now forever followed by camera crews and celebrities et al. It is uncertain whether either Reynolds or McElhenney will be jetting in this weekend. After all, Phil Parkinson's side need both Barrow and MK Dons to drop points in order to return to the third tier for the first time in two decades this week. That is why Parkinson's number two Parkin and the players were doing their best on Tuesday to contain excitement. "It's difficult to ban people talking about it or not mention it," said Parkin. "But in the dressing room, they know how hard it was last year, they know what it takes to get promoted." Second in the table and assured of a play-off place at least, Wrexham need a maximum of five points from their remaining three games for a top-three finish, regardless of how others fare. Two of those games, starting with Forest Green on Saturday, are at the Racecourse, with Wrexham boasting the best home record in the division. They have taken 48 points and scored 54 goals in 21 games at home, and have lost just four regular league fixtures in three years. A trip to play-off chasing Crewe before the visit of current leaders Stockport are the final two fixtures, with supporters both eager to get the job done before any unnecessary final-game drama. Or, as Reynolds posted on social media after last weekend, there is "life-threatening tension and gut-wrenching suspense as we come to the close of another bonkers season". With the third series of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary scheduled to premiere in the US less than a week after the end of the season, the finale is yet to be filmed. Wrexham's intent, though, is to stick to the script that has earned them this chance of repeat celebrations.

Saturday 13th April 2024 - League 2
Wrexham 6 (Lee 17, Mullin 23, 44, Inniss 33 og, Barnett 63, Marriott 84) Forest Green Rovers 0
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/14F85/production/_133139858_hi093810352.jpg Paul Mullin celebrates scoring Wrexham's second goal against Rovers
Report By Aled Williams, BBC Sport Wales at the Stok Racecourse.Wrexham sealed promotion to League One with a rampant display that left Forest Green Rovers on the cusp of relegation. Elliot Lee, Paul Mullin's double and a Ryan Innis own goal put the hosts firmly in control at the interval. Ryan Barnett and Jack Marriott struck after the break to round off the win. The stylish victory, coupled with defeats for MK Dons and Barrow, sees Phil Parkinson's team book a return to English football's third tier for the first time since 2004. It is a second successive promotion after last season's National League title win. Supporters raced on to the Stok Racecourse at the final whistle to celebrate another memorable chapter in the club owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. With five wins in their last eight games, manager Parkinson said ahead of the match that Wrexham's "destiny" was in their own hands. Guaranteed a place in the play-offs after Tuesday's impressive 4-1 win over Crawley Town, Wrexham knew that five points from their final three games would secure automatic promotion from League Two. But they went into Saturday's game knowing a win over Forest Green and dropped points for rivals MK Dons and Barrow would see the Dragons seal promotion by the end of the afternoon. Wrexham, unchanged from the midweek win, made a bright purposeful start and although they controlled the opening quarter of an hour, the home side only had a couple of half-chances to show for it. But there was no denying the hosts for much longer and following a Tom O'Connor corner which wasn't cleared, Mullin had a shot blocked before the ball eventually fell for Lee at the far post to poke in from close range. Mullin fired a shot from distance wide of the post but Wrexham's top scorer soon doubled the lead. Lee found James McClean out wide and the Republic of Ireland international's cross found Mullin unmarked at the far post to net his 24th goal of the season. The Dragons' superiority continued and Eoghan O'Connell's shot from the edge of the area took a deflection off the unfortunate Inniss before trickling over the goalline for the third. Mullin, League Two's player of the month for March, wrapped up an impressive first half when after O'Connor's corner was not cleared, saw his shot take a deflection to wrong-foot keeper Vincente Reyes. Forest Green made very little inroads into Wrexham's half during the opening 45 minutes and can be fortunate not to have gone in further behind at the interval. The home side's domination continued after the break, with Barnett's fierce volley from the impressive McClean's pinpoint cross from the byeline. Lee's curling shot flashed past the post, while at the other end, substitute Dominic Thompson's effort sailed harmlessly over the crossbar and summed up Forest Green's afternoon. Another McClean cross into the area resulted in a sixth goal with substitute Marriott scoring. Wrexham had done what they had to do and with news that both MK Dons and Barrow had lost sweeping through the Racecourse, the supporters began celebrating a second promotion in two years. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:"Immensely proud of the lads today. If you look at the Tuesday performance and today, when it mattered most we put in two of our best performances of the season. "Some of the football was of a very high standard today. "Realistically the game should have be over at half-time but it was just about keeping our focus and seeing the game through. "It's nice to do it in convincing style, with a really good performance."
