Match report by Alex Brotherton, BBC Sport journalistManchester United’s 100% start in the Women’s Super League came to an end as former Red Devils striker Nikita Parris earned a point for Brighton & Hove Albion. United took an early lead at the Amex Stadium through Grace Clinton but were pegged back early in the second half by Parris. The visitors dominated most of the first half as Brighton struggled to cope with the aggressive pressing of Marc Skinner’s side. United's Hinata Miyazawa forced Sophie Baggaley into a fine save inside the opening five minutes, but the pressure soon told as Clinton converted a pin-point cross from Celin Bizet with a smart near-post finish. Baggaley was called into action again to deny Elisabeth Terland and Miyazawa, while only the crossbar prevented Clinton from doubling the advantage with a curling effort from the edge of the area. Dario Vidosic’s side began to find their rhythm as half-time approached, and would have equalised had United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce not produced a stunning save to deny Madison Haley from close range. Brighton’s resilience was rewarded seven minutes into the second half when a glancing header from Parris redirected Maria Thorisdottir’s strike past Tullis-Joyce. Parris joined Brighton from United on transfer deadline day, a twist of fate leading her to become the first player to score against Skinner’s side this season. The second half was much more even than the first, with United's Ella Toone and Brighton's Fran Kirby both forcing saves with long-range strikes. The visitors cranked up the pressure in the final moments with Baggaley tipping Terland’s volley round the post. With the points shared in front of a record WSL crowd at the Amex of 8,369, United move top of the WSL table on goal difference, tied on 10 points with Brighton and Manchester City.

shekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/A-League-Women-Grand-Final-Melbourne-City-v-Sydney-FC.jpgBrighton boss Dario Vidosic said Saturday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United is an experience his players can learn from going forward: "We started off slowly. That sense of belonging on this stage against a very good opponent and the possibility to go top of the WSL if we want – it’s a good learning curve for us. "Once we settled down, got into our game and did what we wanted to do we matched them and we created a lot of problems. It was a great game. I had a lot of fun as well. "We know that there's still lots of improvement in the squad, but we're taking the right steps." On what he changed at half-time: "We needed something a little bit different, to be more aggressive. We saw that there was space in behind, so we had that threat as well. I thought we were a bit more brave and we played quicker. "We started to get into the spaces quicker and caused them numerous issues. It's a good one to learn from." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/05/14/07/70964517-0-image-a-38_1684044514648.jpgManchester United boss Marc Skinner was disappointed his side conceded their first goal in the Women's Super League but was pleased with the performance overall: "It was a really good game from both teams. We had a couple of big chances which we have to be more ruthless with and then we get a goal. It’s a fantastic goal. Start of the second half we let off the pace a little bit and then we let a goal in which we won’t be happy with. But it happens. "I thought we were exceptional for most of the game. The second part of the second half we took the game to them again and all of a sudden we could have won the game. To go and want to win the game at the end shows a great mindset. We are in a really good space and long may it continue." On the penalty shout for the foul on Celin Bizet: "In my opinion it’s an absolute stonewall penalty. It’s a clumsy challenge and she goes over and it’s in the penalty area. Not even a foul is given. You will hopefully get them in games but it is a big moment. On Maya Le Tissier breaking the record for the youngest player to have started 100 WSL games: "She is brilliant. She has come back to her old stomping ground. She is hugely important to what we do and she is a credit to our captaincy."

Manchester City 2 (Hemp 62, Roord 70) Aston Villa 1 (Nunes 20)
shekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Manchester-City-v-Aston-Villa-Barclays-Womens-Super-League.jpg Jill Roord of Manchester City celebrates scoring her team’s second goal with teammate Lauren Hemp.
Match report by Emma Smith, BBC Sport journalistManchester City moved top of the Women's Super League as they beat Aston Villa in their third comeback win in the space of a week. City fell behind for the third successive match when Villa took the lead against the run of play after 20 minutes, Gabi Nunes flicking in her first goal for the club. The hosts had dominated possession and chances without truly troubling the Villa goal. The closest they came before the break was Jill Roord being inches away from sliding home Lauren Hemp's dangerous cross. But City continued to pressure Villa in the second half, and eventually found the equaliser when Hemp lobbed the ball home after away keeper Sabrina D'Angelo was caught out of position. And with 20 minutes remaining, Roord scored her first goal since returning from a serious knee ligament injury as she fired past D'Angelo following skilful work by Hemp down the left. "I thought we were fantastic in so many ways," City manager Gareth Taylor told BBC Two. "It was a great fightback in the second half. What I loved about it was the fact we stayed calm." It means City take advantage of previous top two Brighton and Manchester United drawing with one another on Saturday, and end the weekend top of the WSL. Villa meanwhile remain winless in the league, picking up just two points from their opening five games.

Liverpool 1 (Kapocs 37) Crystal Palace 1 (Stengel 14)
shekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Liverpool-v-Crystal-Palace-Barclays-Womens-Super-League.jpg Katie Stengel of Crystal Palace puts her team ahead at Liverpool.
Match report by Charlotte Coates, BBC Sport journalistLiverpool boss Matt Beard criticised his side's work-rate after a disappointing home draw with Crystal Palace in the Women's Super League. The Reds fell behind in the 14th minute after their former striker Katie Stengel opened her goal account for Palace, before Cornelia Kapocs levelled with a lovely finish. With the visitors looking the most likely to find a winner, Beard did not hold back in his post-match assessment as Liverpool go into the international break with just one WSL win. "We were lucky to get that point to be honest," said Beard to BBC Radio 5 Live. "I'm disappointed with the whole performance. I think our DNA is work-rate, being aggressive and we were so passive today with and without the ball. "I thought Palace wanted it more than us, pulling out of tackles. On that front, we need to get to the bottom of why that is because it's super frustrating." Stengel, who left the Reds in 2023 after scoring 17 times in 33 games, gave the visitors the lead after prodding home from close range as the home defence failed to clear. Liverpool pulled themselves level 23 minutes later when Kapocs picked up the ball on the left-hand side of the area and powered in a lovely finish. Early in the second half, Gemma Bonner denied Palace when she put her body on the line with a brilliant piece of defending as she threw herself in front of Stengel's goal-bound strike. Liverpool's record signing, Olivia Smith, thought she had won it for the Reds late on but her superb strike from 25 yards struck the foot of the post. Liverpool visit Aston Villa on 3rd November after the international break, while Palace next host Manchester City on the same day.

shekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Leicester-City-v-Everton-Barclays-Womens-Super-League.jpg Sam Tierney of Leicester City shoots under pressure from Sara Holmgaard of Everton.
Match report by Jonty Colman, BBC Sport journalistLeicester manager Amandine Miquel says she felt "stressed until the last second" after watching her Leicester side claim their first win of the season against Everton in the Women's Super League. Yuka Momiki's superb solo goal inside the opening 10 minutes was enough for Miquel's side to clinch their first win in all competitions since her arrival in the summer. They came close to adding a second but Hannah Cain was twice denied by goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, and they were nearly left to rue those misses late on but Everton's Justine Vanhaevermaet failed to find the target. "Of course it feels good but I think we still have a few things to work on to be a bit more comfortable and not stressed until the last second," said Frenchwoman Miquel. "We still have work [to do] but we are happy to have that first win. “Even though it was not a perfect win, we were not there yet, at least it gives us a few points to have more confidence for the next games.”

West Ham United 0 Arsenal 2 (Caldentey 71 pen, Kafaji 89)
shekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/West-Ham-United-v-Arsenal-Barclays-Womens-Super-League.jpg Alessia Russo of Arsenal heads goalward under pressure from Amber Tysiak of West Ham.
Match report by Emma Smith, BBC Sport journalistMariona Caldentey's penalty and Rosa Kafaji's first Arsenal goal earned victory over West Ham in their first Women's Super League match since Jonas Eidevall resigned as manager. Arsenal were underwhelming for long periods under interim boss Renee Slegers, but found the breakthrough when Amber Tysiak brought down Stina Blackstenius in the box with 20 minutes to play and Caledentey tucked away the spot-kick. Balckstenius' cross was then finished first time by summer signing Kafaji to earn Slegers her second win from two games in temporary charge following Eidevall's departure last week. For long periods, amid awful weather conditions in London, there was no immediate evidence of a new manager bounce. Arsenal came closest in the first half when Alessia Russo shot across the face of goal on 20 minutes before West Ham keeper Kinga Szemik saved with her legs from Emily Fox shortly after. Blackstenius was denied brilliantly by Szemik after 62 minutes, before the decisive penalty followed by Kafaji's late strike. West Ham are one of three WSL sides yet to win this season, with just two points from their first five games.

Chelsea 5 (Hamano 10, Nilden 44 og, Rytting Kaneryd 70, 90+1, Baltimore 74) Tottenham Hotspur 2 (Nilden 21, Summanen 84)
shekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Chelsea-v-Tottenham-Hotspur-Barclays-Womens-Super-League.jpg Maika Hamano of Chelsea scores the opener against Tottenham Hotspur.
Match report by Charlotte Coates, BBC Sport journalistJohanna Rytting Kaneryd scored two goal-of-the-season contenders as Chelsea maintained their perfect start to the Women's Super League season. With the injured Lauren James watching on from the stands, Kaneryd scored an outrageous jumping volley to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute. The Sweden midfielder was not finished there, as she added her second with a superb jinking run and powerful finish into the roof of the net to round off the scoring in a dominant Blues win. In an end-to-end first half, Chelsea took the lead through Maika Hamano as she swept home on her first WSL start of the season thanks to a fine cutback from Kaneryd. An equaliser came in controversial fashion as Blues goalkeeper Hannah Hampton was judged not to have kept out a mis**t diagonal pass from Spurs’ Amanda Nilden. As the ball was sailing high towards the goal, Hampton had to jump to palm the ball down onto the goalline but the assistant referee raised his flag and, with goalline technology not available in the WSL, a goal was awarded - much to the dismay of Hampton who picked up a yellow card for her protests. Chelsea regained the lead minutes before half-time with Nilden's attempted clearance skimming off the top of her head and beyond keeper Becky Spencer. The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 74th minute after a handball by Clare Hunt and Guro Reiten's spot-kick slammed against the base of the post only for Sandy Baltimore to finish the rebound. Eveliina Summanen scored a consolation goal late on, curling a brilliant free-kick over the wall and into the bottom corner to make it 4-2, before Kaneryd finished the match in style. Chelsea will look to make it five wins from five when they travel to winless Everton after the international break, while Spurs host West Ham.

Nick Cushing a candidate for Arsenal head coach job..by Emma Sanders, BBC Sport women’s football news reporter

Cushing led Manchester City to the Women's Super League title in 2016 during a seven-year spell before moving to the United States in 2020. He joined men's team New York City as assistant manager before becoming head coach in 2022. The Gunners have been without a manager since Eidevall resigned on 15th October following defeat by Chelsea at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are still considering other options, but would be prepared to wait if Cushing becomes their top target - as the Gunners have confidence in interim manager Renee Slegers. Cushing is set to oversee New York City’s best-of-three Major League Soccer series play-offs against Cincinnati which take place between 28th October & 9th November. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/23/19/91201839-13993543-image-a-70_1729708047545.jpgNick Cushing led Manchester City Women between 2013 and 2020, before moving to New York

Match report by Emma Sanders, BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Wembley StadiumEngland suffered defeat by Germany as the teams that contested the Euro 2022 final at Wembley returned to the same stage and delivered a seven-goal friendly thriller. It was a chaotic evening in north London as England failed to control the game and fell 3-0 down within half an hour. Germany captain Giulia Gwinn scored twice, once from the penalty spot, before Klara Buhl added a third, stunning the Lionesses on home soil. But Sarina Wiegman's side responded when Georgia Stanway's quick-fire double narrowed the deficit, and they could have added more with Alessia Russo striking the outside of the post and having a goal disallowed for offside in the build-up. However, there could be no serious complaints with the scoreline at half-time as England's defence was carved apart countless times and duly punished. Germany were equally as poor in defence but England were not able to capitalise as they conceded a fourth goal in the second half, when Russo was harshly penalised for a challenge in her own area and Sara Dabritz scored from the resulting spot-kick. Lucy Bronze was able to poke in a third for England after goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger spilled a free-kick delivery. However, the home side - dramatic 2-1 winners in that final two years ago - could not find a late equaliser. The woodwork was hit twice and there were three disallowed goals in total - two for England, one for Germany - as fans were treated to an immense spectacle. However, it was a match which exposed England's weaknesses, confirming they have a lot of work to do if they want to defend their European crown next summer. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/25/22/91299139-14003665-image-a-7_1729891204082.jpgEngland manager Sarina Wiegman speaking to ITV: "A game that was of a very high level, two teams that are equal and want to attack, so it was open. For me it was a little too open - we wanted to press the ball but if you don't get that right at moments then they are really dangerous when they go forward. We had moments when we lost the ball, unforced errors, and then they are gone." On defensive concerns: "Losing the ball at moments that we should not lose the ball. Germany challenged us but if we had taken out more of those unforced errors then they can't counter attack. "There were moments that they challenged us tactically - we wanted to press higher but we needed to find out the triggers. When do we stay compact and wait, versus when do we go?" On the final penalty decision: "I haven't seen it back but from how I saw it, I found it very, very unlucky." On work to do: "That is why we play those games. Top level games where you get challenged and if you don't get the things right then you get exploited. That is what we want; to see where we are at, get as much information as possible and get players minutes to build connections. That is what we want to build preparations for the Euros."

'Trailblazer' Steph Houghton honoured at Wembley..by BBC Sport
i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/25/22/91299115-14003853-image-a-2_1729891198478.jpg The former England captain stood alongside the Lionesses as they lined up for a friendlySteph Houghton was described as "one of the most inspirational England players of this generation" after the former Lionesses captain was honoured in a retirement ceremony at Wembley. The 36-year-old was presented to the crowd before leading England out on to the pitch for Friday's friendly against Germany. Houghton won 121 England caps across 14 seasons and featured in three World Cups and two European Championships. "To captain the side for as long as she did and through the times that she did, she really stepped up in the situation," Nikita Parris, the 71-cap England forward, told BBC Sport. "Right now we're playing regular games at big stadiums like Wembley, but before this, people like Steph, Fara Williams and Jill Scott were going in and fighting for us to be on these stages. "Without their hard work and sacrifice, we wouldn't be able to play in stadiums like this in front of 90,000 people to win a home Euros." Parris, who has not been included in an England squad since November 2022, was part of BBC Radio 5 Live's coverage team at Wembley. She played with Houghton for Manchester City and England and praised the defensive stalwart for her leadership qualities. "As a young player coming through, she gave me advice and put her arm around my shoulder but also gave me a kick up the backside when needed," Parris said. "We have been through ups and downs with the national team. Now everything is on the up – but then it wasn't. Those were the players who showed their experience and what it takes to be an England international." Houghton retired at the end of last season and had not featured for her country since 2021. She captained England to the bronze medal at the 2015 World Cup in Canada before runs to the semi-finals at Euro 2017 and the 2019 World Cup. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/25/22/91299113-14003853-image-a-1_1729891195663.jpg Steph Houghton was celebrated at a retirement ceremony at Wembley on Friday

Alex Scott poses for her 40th birthday shoot discusses rejection and causing controversy choice by wearing OneLove armband in Qatar..by Kirsten Murrayi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/25/15/91286005-14002301-image-a-100_1729866985300.jpgAlex Scott looked sensational as she posed up a storm for her sexiest shoot yet as she celebrated turning 40 this month. The footballer-turned-broadcaster flashed her toned abs as in a strapless black bralette and smart suit trousers in a series of stunning snaps. And while the sports star said she is now 'in the best place' she admitted it hasn't always been easy as she detailed her struggles with rejection. Speaking to Hunger magazine she explained: 'Sometimes people just see the end process, but not what it took. 'The rejection, the people not thinking that I was good enough because of my accent and so forth. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/25/15/91285983-14002301-image-a-111_1729867043978.jpg'That constant drive to prove people wrong has always been there from that young girl in Poplar.' Reflecting back on her younger self she added: 'that young Alex in the cage, she had dreams. She wanted to see the world. She could see there was a bigger picture and she didn't want to be stuck in that football cage and think that was her life.' Alex signed with Arsenal when she was only eight years old and later went on to become their captain. After appearing in the Women's Super League 140 times, the star retired from football in September 2017. She began putting her expertise to good use from the presenting chair on BBC Sport landing jobs at the Women's World Cup. She added: 'No one could ever say that I didn't work hard.' Meanwhile Alex also opened up about her controversial decision to wear the OneLove Armband at the Qatar World Cup back in 2022. Alex, who is in a relationship with singer Jess Glynne, wore the armband which was intended as a protest against all forms of discrimination at the tournament in Qatar. Alex confessed: 'I didn't even know I was going to do that an hour before. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/25/16/64773373-14002301-Alex_Scott_donned_the_pro_inclusion_armband_while_working_on_Eng-a-126_1729869086171.jpg'It just came from a place of love. I wanted people to know that they belong and that I stand with everybody.' The star also opened up about turning 40 and feeling content as she added: 'I'm in a great place, a really good spot. 'Obviously, everyone keeps reminding me about my big Birthday. I went into this birthday feeling comfortable in my own skin. 'There's been too many points in my life where I've kind of been that person who wants [their birthday] to go under the radar. 'Now, I'm like, let's celebrate it. You just don't know what's going to happen.' The shoot comes after Alex hit the town to celebrate her 40th birthday in style on last week with her friends and family. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/25/15/91285979-14002301-image-a-112_1729867049180.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/25/16/91287681-14002301-image-a-127_1729869236837.jpg Alex is in a relationship with Jess Glynne (35) after the pair were first spotted together at Wimbledon in 2023 Alex and Jess both share birthdays in October, the 14th and 20th.

Match report by Emma Sanders, BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at CBS ArenaEngland captain Leah Williamson scored but also made an error that led to a South Africa goal in a friendly victory in Coventry. It was an important win for England, who were beaten 4-3 by Germany on Friday, but defensive errors remained. Williamson, who only returned from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in January, has struggled for form this season and was under scrutiny. She was one of three players who kept her place in Sarina Wiegman's side, and gave the perfect response when she opened the scoring in the first half. But it was a mixed evening for the Lionesses' captain as it was her loose pass to midfielder Georgia Stanway which set up Thembi Kgatlana's goal in the second half for South Africa. It was a moment that made England's night a little less comfortable, having gone 2-0 up when Grace Clinton headed in Maya le Tissier's cross. However, Wiegman's much-changed side showed plenty of creativity and confidence going forward, despite ongoing difficulties at the back. Tottenham's Jess Naz - making her first England start - got an assist, while Manchester City's Jess Park was busy and assured. Chloe Kelly, struggling for game time at City this season, showed her desire to regain her place in the starting XI and hit the crossbar in the second half. On the whole it was a disjointed performance given all the changes, but will give Wiegman food for thought, and highlighted further that England must improve defensively before next summer's Euro 2025 tournament in Switzerland.

Man City striker Vivianne Miedema has knee surgery..by BBC Sporti.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/03/11/90407617-13920129-image-a-36_1727951138762.jpgManchester City striker Vivianne Miedema has had surgery on her left knee. The 28-year-old Netherlands international has not played since the Champions League victory against Barcelona on 9th October. City have not revealed the extent of Miedema's injury or said how long she could be sidelined for. "Everyone at City would like to wish Viv a full and speedy recovery," City said. Miedema has scored two goals in five games in all competitions since joining in July after her contract with Arsenal expired. In her final two seasons at Arsenal Miedema played only eight Women's Super League (WSL) games after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee in December 2022. City are top of the WSL after five games, one point above Chelsea.

BBC Sport signs new WSL rights deal until 2030..by BBC Sporti.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/14/20/81271249-13084369-Under_the_terms_of_the_existing_deal_which_expires_in_the_summer-a-1_1707944388201.jpgBBC Sport has agreed a new five-year deal to continue broadcasting the Women's Super League. Under the deal, which runs until 2030, the BBC will show 21 top-flight matches every season. From the 2025-26 season, there will be 14 exclusive matches on BBC television, with seven shared across BBC iPlayer and BBC digital platforms. Selected matches will also be available on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds and on local BBC radio. Goals and clips of every fixture will be available on the BBC Sport website, app and social channels. The broadcast deal means matches will continue to be broadcast on Sky Sports. Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, said: "It's great to see the WSL growing and growing and I'm delighted that the BBC is carrying on as a partner on that journey. "We remain the most-used sports broadcaster in the UK, providing unparalleled cross-platform coverage, so it's brilliant to be able to continue bringing the WSL to audiences as part of our free-to-air portfolio." Women's Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL) chief executive Nikki Doucet said: "Agreeing the next cycle of broadcast rights was a priority for us and we are very fortunate to have two premium broadcast partners in Sky Sports and the BBC who believe in the future and value of women's football as much as we do. "The growth of the game is undeniable, and this deal is another step in the right direction and positive news for the fans, the players and the clubs."

Manchester United 1 (Malard 82) Arsenal 1 (Russo 63)

Match report by Emma Sanders, BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Leigh Sports VillageManchester United substitute Melvine Malard scored a late equaliser to secure a point against Arsenal at Leigh Sports Village. It cancelled out Alessia Russo's first goal of the Women's Super League season, which it looked would give the Gunners victory. The England international has struggled in front of goal this season but looked sharp against her former club and eventually found the net in a dominant second-half display. With England manager Sarina Wiegman watching, Russo drilled the ball past goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce minutes after team-mate Lia Walti struck the post. But it was not enough to take Arsenal over the line as Marc Skinner's second-half substitutions had an impact and Malard's header bobbled over goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar's outstretched hand. It denied the Gunners a third victory under interim manager Renee Slegers as they continue to regroup following the departure of Jonas Eidevall. "You know against the top teams it will be important to win, especially from where we come from, and that's why the disappointment is so big," said Slegers. "We did a lot of things well. We had lots of involvement from the players on what we wanted to achieve in this block of games and we did a lot of those things. "Performance-wise there were a lot of positives, but then again the disappointment was only [gaining] one point." United, meanwhile, remain unbeaten in their opening five matches and this result keeps them within touching distance of league leaders Manchester City. Brighton & Hove Albion 1 (Parris 20) Leicester City 0
Venue: Broadfield Stadium - Attendance: 2,082
Match report by Charlotte Coates, BBC Sport journalistBrighton continued their impressive form as they moved up to third in the Women's Super League with a dominant performance against Leicester. Nikita Parris maintained her purple patch in front of goal as she scored for the third game running for the first time since October 2018. The 30-year-old showed her poacher's instinct in the 20th minute when she reacted first to head in Jorelyn Carabali's powerful cross. Brighton boss Dario Vidosic praised his side after the game: "Even though I'm possession-based, we concentrate a lot defensively. "We tried to attack with the ball and to also defend with the ball and then that way we were solid. I thought we looked really solid even when a lot was thrown at us. "We're just learning, trying to evolve and get better, but we know we've got a tough test on Friday and I'm sure we're all looking forward to that one." The Seagulls started the second half on the front foot too and Parris almost netted her second after fine interplay with talented midfielder Vicky Losada. There was concern from the visitors' bench on the hour mark when midfielder Sam Tierney required a stretcher after injuring her ankle in a challenge with Poppy Pattinson. Despite falling behind early on, Leicester, who remain eighth, failed to trouble Brighton keeper Sophie Baggaley and ended the match with just one effort on goal. The success for the home side - who briefly went second but dropped a place after Chelsea's thumping win at Everton - capped a brilliant few days for Vidosic after he was named WSL Manager of the Month for October. Next up for the Seagulls is a testing trip to Arsenal on Friday, 8 November, before Leicester visit winless West Ham two days later.

Match report by Bobbie Jackson, BBC Sport JournalistManchester City marked their 200th Women's Super League outing with a dominant win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. City controlled the game from the outset but had to be patient for the opener as Palace showed resilience in defence. After struggling to enjoy success from wide areas, City midfielder Jess Park took matters into her own hands and broke the deadlock with a long-range strike in the 40th minute. City doubled their advantage just minutes into the second period when Jill Roord pounced on a loose ball in the box. Palace did not create a great deal but went closest just after the hour mark when Katie Stengel struck the post. That was the only clear sight at goal for the hosts, who suffered further punishment when City striker Khadija Shaw grabbed her fourth goal of the season in the 73rd minute. The victory extends City's unbeaten start to the season, winning five and drawing one, and puts them three points clear of second-placed Brighton, while they have a six-point advantage over third-placed Chelsea, who face Everton at 18:45 GMT. Palace have now lost four of their opening six fixtures and sit ninth. Aston Villa 1 (Nunes 49) Liverpool 2 (Hinds 26, 43) - Villa Park

Match report by Emma Smith, BBC Sport journalist at Villa ParkAston Villa's first-half performance in their defeat by Liverpool was described as "terrible" by manager Robert de Pauw as they remain winless after six games of the Women’s Super League season. Taylor Hinds’ double earned Liverpool victory at Villa Park as the visitors dominated the first 45 minutes. Liverpool took a deserved lead after 26 minutes, a low cross from the right finding Hinds in the box. The Reds captain had time and yards of space on the left to finish high past Villa keeper Sabrina D’Angelo. The second goal saw Hinds run onto Grace Fisk's ball across the box and strike a low shot through the legs of D’Angelo. Having lined his side up in a new-look 3-5-2 formation for this game, De Pauw made a triple half-time change after a lifeless first 45 minutes. "That first half we didn't show up," he told BBC Sport. "That's terrible to see as a coach, as you feel you did everything in the week to prepare. "The first half we looked a little stressed, insecure on the ball, not exact in passing. Liverpool were opportunistic, if you don't do your job and track back then you concede two goals. "Then you have to take risks, in the second half the players looked like, we can go all or nothing. Then suddenly we start to play football like we normally train." Those half-time changes made an immediate impact as Villa pulled a goal back five minutes after the break, Gabi Nunes bundling in from close range. The hosts were much more coherent after the break, Liverpool keeper Rachel Laws making a good save with her left leg to deny Kirsty Hanson. But Liverpool held on to move fifth in the WSL, while Villa remain on two points from six games. They are only above bottom side West Ham on goal difference. It means De Pauw, who replaced Carla Ward as Villa manager in the summer, remains winless in English league football. "Of course there is pressure, but what frustrates me is that the first five games were good in the way we played, but we didn't kill the games off," he added.

Match report by Alex Brotherton, BBC Sport journalistWest Ham United's winless start to the Women's Super League season continued as they lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs' Beth England cancelled out Riko Ueki's opener early in the second half before a bizarre own goal from Camila Saez, who lobbed her own goalkeeper from 18 yards, settled the match in injury time. It was Spurs who started on the front foot at Brisbane Road, with England firing over after some neat build-up play from Martha Thomas. Jessica Naz, fresh from making her first start for England during the recent international break, caused problems with a couple of dangerous runs in behind the West Ham backline, while Ella Morris produced some teasing deliveries. However, Spurs have struggled to deal with set-pieces this season, and it was again their undoing, with Ueki rising highest to head Viviane Asseyi’s delivery past Becky Spencer. Spurs were level six minutes into the second period. Thomas forced a superb save out of Kinga Szemik, before Matilda Vinberg hit the post with the rebound and finally England prodded home from close range. Spurs cranked up the pressure as the half went on, with England and Morris spurning chances to put them ahead, while Naz sent a fierce long-range effort narrowly wide. But with the game heading for a draw, Saez lifted the ball over her own goalkeeper when attempting to clear a hopeful ball forward. Defeat leaves West Ham bottom of the table with two points after six games. Meanwhile, Spurs are up to sixth with seven points.
