Sunday, 19th February - Arnold Clark ResultEngland 2 (Daly 32, 71) Italy 1 (Cantore 62) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/CAB9/production/_128679815_gettyimages-1467630484.jpgRachel Daly scored twice as England survived a scare from Italy in Coventry to win their second match of the Arnold Clark Cup. The Aston Villa striker, 31, was given the nod up front in place of Manchester United's Alessia Russo and delivered with two crucial headers either side of the break. Daly nodded in Katie Robinson's cross to make it 1-0, but Italy rocked the hosts with a surprise equaliser in controversial fashion as Sofia Cantore bundled in a cross which appeared to go out of play. Despite protests from the Lionesses, including defender Maya Le Tissier who had slid in attempting to block the cross, there was no goalline technology at the CBS Arena to confirm the decision. England regrouped, however, with Daly once again providing a crucial impact, heading in substitute Lauren James' cross to restore their lead. "I haven't seen the footage back but that's not really important. The decision had been made so we had to move on and score a second goal," said manager Sarina Wiegman. "Maybe the goal was out of bounds but we don't have VAR so you have to keep going." Daly went off to a standing ovation shortly after scoring her second in front of 32,128 - a record attendance for a sporting event at the arena - and England comfortably held on to make it two wins from two in the tournament they won last year. Wiegman's side travel to Bristol on Wednesday for their final match against Belgium and success would seal the defence of their title just five months out from the Women's World Cup. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/13310/production/_128680687_gettyimages-1467630918.jpg

Ann-Katrin Berger: Chelsea and Germany goalkeeper on overcoming second cancer diagnosis..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9C70/production/_128684004_gettyimages-1240691437.jpgAnn-Katrin Berger has won three Women's Super League titles, two FA Cups and two League Cups with Chelsea since joining in January 2019 Chelsea and Germany goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger says she refused to let the return of her thyroid cancer prevent her enjoying a "positive" year on the pitch for club and country. The 32-year-old confirmed in August that, after four years of being cancer-free, her illness had returned and she would undergo treatment. She received the news during Germany's run to the Euro 2022 final. "It was a tough year. But I have come out of it even stronger," Berger said. "To be at a Euros [when] nobody knew then, the emotion of the Euros took the negative part away from my brain," she told BBC World Service's Sportsworld. "It was a good year. I didn't let my illness come across and say 'hey, you shouldn't have a good year because I'm back again'." Berger, initially diagnosed with cancer in late 2017, helped Chelsea win a historic third successive Women's Super League title in May - part of a domestic double alongside the club's FA Cup triumph. She was an unused substitute in Germany's Euro 2022 final defeat by England at Wembley. Of her cancer diagnosis and treatment, she added: "I actually quite like to talk about it. It's a topic nobody likes to talk about but in my position I think I can help people. I'm not sitting here saying everything was easy, because it's not, but whatever your main focus is - and mine was football - you can achieve everything you want to. "That's why I think it's really important for me to be open. I did it, so why can't everyone else?" Berger is one of three finalists for the Best Women's Goalkeeper award in the Fifa Best Awards, alongside England and Manchester United's Mary Earps and Christiane Endler of Chile and Lyon. "If I'm honest I never thought I would be on the best three again after the illness I had," said Berger, who only missed her side's opening WSL loss to Liverpool following her treatment. "I had to come back again and prove myself, so I was really surprised. It's a nice feeling and I can't deny it, but I'm already a winner in my head because I maybe don't have the platforms of the others in national teams because the competition [in Germany] is quite high. "To be on the best three is phenomenal. I'm a little bit proud of myself as well." Despite Germany's extra-time loss in the Euro 2022 final, Berger feels like she has benefitted from England's success because of its subsequent impact on the women's game in the country. "I'd say England winning the Euros was the best thing that could happen for the country. For me, even though I lost the final, I also won at the same time," Berger said. "Now we play multiple times in big stadiums, we're getting more fans every Sunday - not just against the top teams. For me it's a win-win situation. That's what we train for, so we can get the recognition we deserve." Chelsea continue to fight on four fronts this season, while the Women's World Cup takes place in Australia and New Zealand from July. Berger has been restricted to four international caps to date, with Wolfsburg's Merle Frohms preferred by Germany boss Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, but the former Birmingham City and Paris St-Germain player is optimistic as she aims to be part of her first World Cup squad. "It would be amazing to go to a World Cup, especially because I came late to the national team, so that was always my target. I hope it looks pretty good that I will be there," Berger said. "We have a lot of energy from the Euros, we have set our standards and we can only go higher now. If everyone is pushing as hard as they are now I don't think there are big problems that we can reach the final again."

The Lionesses, now unbeaten in 29 matches, were on top throughout at Ashton Gate, needing only a draw to seal the title. The familiar image of captain Leah Williamson lifting a trophy afterwards - her third in 12 months - was met by huge cheers, followed by a chorus of 'Sweet Caroline' which became synonymous with their Euro 2022 triumph. Williamson had an enjoyable evening, getting on the scoresheet twice, as England dominated from the outset and brushed Belgium aside. Manchester City winger Chloe Kelly, who scored the winning goal in the Euro 2022 final, also netted twice to finish as the tournament's top scorer. In a busy ending, Lucy Bronze poked in Rachel Daly's knockdown and former Bristol City midfielder Julie Biesmans diverted into her own net to add to England's tally, while Elena Dhont's superb curling strike for Belgium prevented a clean sheet for Mary Earps. England's preparations for the Women's World Cup continue to go smoothly. With just five months to go until the tournament kicks off in Australia and New Zealand, the Lionesses have maintained winning momentum and are still yet to lose under manager Sarina Wiegman. They conceded just two goals at the Arnold Clark Cup, the other in a narrow 2-1 win over Italy, who finished third behind Belgium and ahead of South Korea.

Best Fifa awards 2022: England manager Sarina Wiegman named women's coach of the year..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/832B/production/_128797533_hi082703705.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/0DFB/production/_128797530_hi082703704.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/BAA3/production/_128797774_microsoftteams-image.pngEngland manager Sarina Wiegman has been named women's coach of the year at the 2022 Best Fifa Awards. England's Mary Earps won the women's goalkeeper award at the Paris ceremony. Alexia Putellas 29, who scored 34 times last season, won the player award for the second year running. The Spanish international, who missed Euro 2022 with a knee injury, beat England forward Beth Mead and United States international Alex Morgan to the honour. Dutchwoman Wiegman guided England to European Championship glory on home soil last year, the team's first major trophy. Mary Earps, who plays for Women's Super League side Manchester United, started every game as England won the tournament. Wiegman, who won the Euros as Netherlands boss in 2017, has claimed the Best Fifa women's coach award for the third time, having also earned it in 2017 and 2020.

Everton Women: Identical twins Karen and Sara Holmgaard on their footballing journey..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17FD4/production/_128806289_sara-landkarenholmgaard-0061.jpgMany of us have wondered what it would be like to have a twin. Now, imagine the fun you could have if you both went into the same profession, had the same employer and worked side by side throughout your careers. Karen and Sara Holmgaard, the identical twin sisters who play for Everton and Denmark, have been confusing team-mates and managers alike since they started out in football. On the pitch, it is easy to distinguish the 23-year-olds. Karen is right-footed, Sara favours her left. Karen plays in midfield, while Sara is in defence. Karen prefers a possession-based game, while Sara's strength is being powerful and winning duels. But off the field it becomes much more difficult to tell the pair apart. Even Everton's Danish boss Brian Sorensen, who previously worked with the twins in their homeland, can struggle. "With Brian, we have worked with him for two or three years and there are some times when he is still confused," Karen tells BBC Sport. Karen tends to wear her hair in a high bun and is slightly taller, while Sara usually opts for a low bun. "If one morning I went to training and I had my hair down they [team-mates] can't see the difference," said Sara. "After one game where Karen had scored I put my hair up and I went into the room where Brian was and he said to me 'oh what a goal'. And I said 'erm Brian, I'm Sara'." The pair say they have often pretended to be each other over the years and have got used to being referred to by the wrong name. "Sometimes I switch but I'm not thinking about it," said Sara. When it comes to personality, Sara says she is the quieter of the two with Karen leading the way in conversations - but they also have similar characters. "We are basically the same I think. I'm a bit more quiet, but I think we are nearly the same," said Sara.

Aston Villa star Alisha Lehmann offered $100k from adult subscription site..i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article29359320.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_GettyImages-1443067347.jpgAston Villa star Alisha Lehmann has been offered a whopping $100,000 (£83.7k) from an adult subscription site in a bid to get the Swiss forward her own account. The 24-year-old has been plying her trade in the WSL since 2018 after joining West Ham from Young Boys Frauen. She has since represented Everton and Villa in what has turned into a promising footballing career. She has now been offered the chance to add $100k to her bank account with a bizarre offer from adult subscription site My.Club. Vice President of the site Mike Ford has offered the forward $50k (£41.8k) personally, with a further $50k to be donated to the Swiss Women’s Super League should she create an account and join the site. An official statement from the website suggested that Lehmann would be able to “post training photos, thirst traps and personally field questions”. The Swiss star is almost certain to reject the offer. Recently Lehmann appealed for fans to focus their attention on her career on the pitch, not her life off it. As quoted by The Times, she said: "A lot of people only see the social side [of my life, via Instagram ] and not actually how I play football. About this, I’m sometimes disappointed, because I work hard every day. "I train every day and I want to be the best player I can be. They don’t really know how I play. I’m always saying, ‘Watch a game please’ — and then they’re surprised.” "The message I want to give to people [is] that you can literally be however you want and still play football. Use make-up or do the things you like, do your nails, do your eyelashes, and still play football. It’s not a side you have to pick. “It’s really important that no one changes because people tell you to. When I was younger a lot of people told me, ‘Oh, you can’t wear make-up. You can’t wear your lashes when you play’. "At one point I thought, ‘Why not?’ It’s normal and it doesn’t hurt anyone if I do it. I feel like we should see this as normal. Because I’m someone that likes it a lot. I want to look really feminine. It’s my passion.” Lehmann has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season for Villa, scoring one goal and notching two assists. Her Villa side currently sit fifth in the WSL standings and will be aiming to secure another victory this weekend as they take on Everton. Aside from her WSL career, Lehmann has also put together a successful career on the international stage. She has 36 caps for the Switzerland national side since her debut in 2017, scoring seven goals. She however did not play at the 2022 European Championships won by England after confirming that she did not feel “mentally ready” to take part in the tournament.

Women's League Cup Final - Sunday 5th March - Arsenal v Chelsea - Venue: Selhurst Park, London - 3pm - Live on BBC 1ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/149D8/production/_128804448_gettyimages-1317131371.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/FBB8/production/_128804446_gettyimages-932336142-1.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/3C50/production/_128804451_bbc-sport-index-imagery-2-split-images-gradient-4ec7269e-acca-4cbe-bf51-bfb2689f8685.pngArsenal and Chelsea are two clubs used to winning silverware in the women's game, but it has become far less frequent for the Gunners in recent years. Once the envy of other clubs in England - a dominant force in the league and domestic cups - Arsenal have been supplanted by Chelsea as the team to beat. Emma Hayes' side have become serial champions in England, winning three successive Women's Super League titles and five cups in as many years. On Sunday the teams meet in the League Cup final, but will Chelsea continue their domestic supremacy or can Arsenal win their first silverware for four years? BBC Sport has spoken to both team captains to find out the mood in the camps before the match at Selhurst Park. Arsenal remain the only English side to have won the Champions League, doing so as part of a historic quadruple in 2007, but their record in domestic cup finals has been poor of late. Since 2017-18, they have lost four out of their last five cup finals, while opponents Chelsea have won five of their last six. It is a record captain Kim Little is all too aware of. "Chelsea have been dominant the last few years and we haven't picked up a trophy - we obviously want that to change," Little says. "We keep aiming for that and are taking the right steps to get back to the position we have been in before as a club." No-one knows Arsenal better than the 32-year-old midfielder, who has spent 11 years at the club across two spells. She first joined aged 17 - the season after they won the quadruple. The Scot helped them pick up a domestic treble in her debut season and has won 13 trophies in total with the Gunners - although just two of those have come since she re-joined in 2017 after a spell abroad. Chelsea captain Magdalena Eriksson is not afraid of spelling out the team's ambitions. She says that attitude stems from manager Hayes, whose mentality spreads "out into the veins of the team". "We feed off of that, winning these kinds of titles," says Eriksson. "We're not shy about the fact that we love to win." And the competition between Chelsea team-mates is fierce. "Winning 3 v 3 in training almost feels like winning the FA Cup because it matters a lot," she says. "We keep scores and talk about it consciously because we want people to really celebrate winning. "It is at the heart of everything we do. You can still talk about winning and the process at the same time and we have developed as a team, but winning is everything for us." The 29-year-old defender, who joined the club in 2017, has become used to lifting silverware, having won nine major trophies during her time with the Blues.

THE FA WOMEN'S SUPER LEAGUE - Sunday 5th March 2023 - Results.Manchester United 5 (Russo 15, 36, 53, Galton 64, Garcia 84) Leicester City 1 (Siemsen 48) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1153F/production/_128857907_gettyimages-1471412683.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11481/production/_128858707_gettyimages-1471427661.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/1635F/production/_128857909_d6f755b1af5e79e8b12225ee8086be3d56e16591.jpgAlessia Russo scored a hat-trick as Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the Women's Super League by overpowering Leicester City. The England striker netted twice in the first half, before Foxes debutant Remy Siemsen reduced the deficit. However, Russo immediately tapped home her third and set up Leah Galton for a fourth, with Lucia Garcia also netting. Victory moves United four points above Chelsea before they face the defending champions on Sunday, 12th March. .................................................................................................................... Everton 0 Aston Villa 2 (Dali 5, Finnigan 67 og) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C71F/production/_128857905_gettyimages-1471418549.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/44A7/production/_128857571_gettyimages-1471418226.jpgAston Villa extended their unbeaten run in the Women's Super League to five games with victory over Everton at Walton Hall Park. A strike from Kenza Dali and an own goal from unfortunate Everton defender Megan Finnigan helped Villa close the gap on fourth-placed Arsenal. In a tight game, Everton went close through Rikke Sedecke and Jess Park, but could not find a way through. They remain in sixth with a game in hand on Villa. Villa took an early lead when WSL top-scorer Rachel Daly turned provider. Her clever pass teed up Dali, whose shot took a slight deflection and kissed the post on its way past Courtney Brosnan. Carla Ward's side mostly held Everton at arm's length and consolidated their lead when Mayumi Pacheco's low cross was inadvertently turned in by Finnigan. With the Toffees having only scored 16 goals this season, Villa saw out the game with relative ease and Daly was inches from a third when heading over in the dying seconds. .......................................................................................................................................................... Manchester City 3 (Shaw 45+2, 47 pen, 83) Tottenham 1 (Bizet Ildhusøy 31) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7841/production/_128858703_ce824f4769149bc28a938428b248c87fbf489f91.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/0311/production/_128858700_gettyimages-1471437432.jpgKhadija Shaw boosted Manchester City's Women's Super League title bid with a hat-trick as they came from behind to beat struggling Tottenham Hotspur. Celin Bizet's opener stunned the Blues as Spurs threatened to repeat last season's shock win at Academy Stadium. Shaw equalised with a header before half-time, made it 2-1 with a penalty and struck late to seal victory that lifted City up to second place. The win is boss Gareth Taylor's 73rd in 100 games in charge of the club. ........................................................................................................................................ Reading 2 (Wellings 66, Rowe 85) West Ham United 1 (Asseyi 76) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12809/production/_128858757_microsoftteams-image.pngichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/651D/production/_128858852_gettyimages-1471446902.jpgRachel Rowe scored a superb late winner as Reading picked up their first points of 2023 with victory over West Ham at Select Car Leasing Stadium. Charlie Wellings' drive into the far corner from 14 yards gave Reading the lead halfway through the second half. Viviane Asseyi equalised when she poked home a stunning curling cross from substitute Izzy Atkinson. However, Rowe drove into the top corner from 20 yards, despite Mackenzie Arnold getting her fingertips to the shot. The win sees Reading open up a four-point gap on the league's only relegation spot which is currently occupied by Leicester, who were beaten by Manchester United earlier on Sunday. It also sees them climb above Tottenham, Tottenham, who lost at Manchester City, and Brighton, who are not playing this weekend. Kelly Chambers' side have played a game more than Leicester and Tottenham and three more than Brighton though so remain in trouble. WSL Table..www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/womens-super-league/table

Jonas Eidevall's side trailed within two minutes when Sam Kerr headed Chelsea in front but the Gunners responded and were much the better side at Selhurst Park. Buoyed by a strong Arsenal following among a record crowd in London, they outplayed and outwitted their long-standing rivals to claim a sixth League Cup. Striker Stina Blackstenius calmly slotted in the equaliser after Kerr's opener, before Arsenal captain Kim Little netted from the penalty spot to make it 2-1. The Gunners continued to dominate, although the combination of Kerr and midfielder Guro Reiten provided an ongoing threat for Chelsea, and Eidevall's side extended their lead on the stroke of half-time when the ball deflected off Blues defender Niamh Charles and into her own net from a corner. Chelsea manager Emma Hayes made several tactical changes throughout the match but her side could not find a way back into the game as Arsenal saw out the win. It is a huge result for Arsenal and coach Eidevall, who has won his first trophy with the club and ended a significant period without silverware for a side who had previously dominated English women's football. "These are the games we want to play," Eidevall told BBC One. "To get results creates belief. It was really important to get that reward and now we can be filled with belief for all the games going forward." Chelsea, on the other hand, have now suffered defeat in back-to-back League Cup finals despite winning three successive Women's Super League titles. Hayes said: "Everything has to be top class and today it was not at Chelsea standard. Sometimes you have to lose games like this to be reminded."

The 26-year-old will join the Blues on July 1st after the conclusion of the Belgian Women's Super League season. Evrard, who has 61 caps, has agreed a three-year contract with the WSL champions until the summer of 2026. "It's really crazy, dreams do come true. I'm really happy, excited and honoured to play for a big club like Chelsea," said Evrard. Evrard played for Gent, Twente and Sporting Huelva before joining Leuven last season. Earlier this year she won the Belgian Golden Shoe for best Belgian female player, becoming the first goalkeeper to win the female award. She was part of the Belgium side that reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2022 in England last summer. Chelsea boss Emma Hayes said: "Nicky will be a great addition to our squad, certainly she showed her quality and her talent in the Euros last summer. "Coming into a full-time, professional environment will certainly help her take the steps in the next direction."

Women's Super League: Emma Hayes a doubt following illness..
Hayes a doubt for Man Utdichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/12C19/production/_128952867_gettyimages-1471528258.jpgChelsea face being without manager Emma Hayes at Kingsmeadow on Sunday after she missed both training and her press conference on Friday through illness. General manager Paul Green stepped in for Hayes at the conference, and will take charge of the team alongside assistant Denise Reddy on Sunday if the manager is unavailable. The pair have recent experience in the dugout, having taken charge of Chelsea for six weeks earlier this season when Hayes took time off to recover from an emergency hysterectomy. Hayes remained connected to matters on the pitch via an earpiece - and the same method will be employed this weekend if she does not recover in time. Green described Hayes as a doubt but added that she had a "higher than 50-50 chance" of being well enough.
