The Gunners, who attempted to sign Alessia Russo for a world record fee on transfer deadline day, missed several good chances and were shut out by the Hammers. They also found West Ham keeper Mackenzie Arnold in fine form - the Australian making several good saves. This draw leaves Arsenal five points off WSL leaders Chelsea. Arsenal have dropped points in back-to-back league games, after being held at home by Chelsea following a last-minute Sam Kerr equaliser. Jonas Eidevall's side have a game in hand, but are clearly missing star forwards Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema who are both out for the season with anterior cruciate knee ligament injuries. Eidevall told Sky Sports: "It was one of those days. We grew into more control in the second half. "We definitely deserved to win today from an opportunities standpoint - but if you don't score, you won't win." West Ham meanwhile stay seventh, having drawn for the first time in 18 WSL fixtures.

Beth Mead: England boss Sarina Wiegman says it is 'too early' to prepare for a World Cup without forward..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1BFD/production/_128556170_gettyimages-1413143392.jpgEngland manager Sarina Wiegman says it is "too early" to prepare for a World Cup without Euro 2022 top scorer Beth Mead. Mead, 27, ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in November and could miss the tournament in July. The Arsenal forward will also be absent for this month's Arnold Clark Cup tournament, which England won in 2022. "It's a little early to say. I don't want to push it. She's had so many things going on," said Wiegman. "We'll see how her rehabilitation goes then we'll look at the future. I don't want her to look too far forward right now because of her situation." Mead's mother June died after "a long and brave battle with ovarian cancer" in January shortly after the Euro winner won BBC Sports Personality of the Year. "She had of course other private issues. I left the knee situation until now as I just wanted her to be OK and get settled with the situation and sadness she had around her," added Wiegman. "She told me she's doing well. She really wants to make [the World Cup]. First, she needs to settle and we will see from there. For now, I won't push that."

However, captain Leah Williamson returns to Wiegman's squad as they look to retain the Arnold Clark Cup later this month.
The Arsenal defender missed November's fixtures with Japan and Norway due to injury but is included in the 26-player squad along with uncapped goalkeeper Emily Ramsey and Manchester City midfielder Laura Coombs, who last featured for England in 2015.
"Laura Coombs has done really well with Manchester City and shown so much consistency," said Wiegman.
"She can also play a little higher and deeper and I think we need more of that to balance our midfield.
"I'm very happy [Williamson's] back too. It's good to have your captain back with the quality she brings."
The Lionesses play South Korea in Milton Keynes on 16th February and Italy in Coventry on 19th February.
Their concluding fixture is against Belgium in Bristol on 22nd February.
England finished ahead of Spain, Canada and Germany to win the round-robin competition in 2022.
Jess Park, who scored 79 seconds into her debut against Japan, is included in the squad after impressing on loan at Everton this season.
But there is no place among the forwards for Manchester United's Nikita Parris, nor Bethany England following her January switch from Chelsea to Tottenham.
Midfielder Jordan Nobbs, who moved from Arsenal to Aston Villa last month, has also been left out along with Everton's Gabby George and Manchester City's Esme Morgan.
"Those players are competing for selection. We have conversations with them all the time. They have moved to clubs where they are playing a lot now," said Wiegman.
"I think it's good for competition but you can't control what your competitors do. We can see now where they are at and how they're improving. Then we look at what they do and make a choice.
"It's good, they get minutes and it makes their position better, but it doesn't guarantee they will be selected."
The tournament comes as Wiegman's side look to build on a historic 2022 - when they were crowned European champions - as they head to this summer's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand which is being held between 20th July & 20th August.
England, who will travel down under as one of the favourites, will continue their preparations with a match against Brazil at Wembley on 6th April in the inaugural Uefa Women's Finalissima.
Full squad Goalkeepers: Mary Earps, Sandy MacIver, Emily Ramsey, Ellie Roebuck.
Defenders: Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles, Rachel Daly, Alex Greenwood, Maya Le Tissier, Leah Williamson, Lotte Wubben-Moy.
Midfielders: Laura Coombs, Fran Kirby, Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone, Keira Walsh, Katie Zelem.
Forwards: Lauren Hemp, Lauren James, Chloe Kelly, Jessica Park, Alessia Russo, Katie Robinson, Ebony Salmon.

Mary Earps: England Euro 2022 winning keeper shortlisted for Fifa Best Award..ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/D90E/production/_128566555_gettyimages-1242235450.jpgEngland Euro 2022 winner Mary Earps is on the final three-strong shortlist in the women's goalkeeper category at the Fifa Best Awards. Manchester United goalkeeper Earps, 29, makes the list along with Chelsea and Germany's Ann-Katrin Berger, and Lyon and Chile's Christiane Endler. The Fifa Best Awards are presented annually by world football's governing body. The 2022 winners will be announced in Paris on 27th February. Earps started every game as the Lionesses won Euro 2022 and recently became the first goalkeeper to keep 50 clean sheets in the Women's Super League. Berger, 32, is a three-time Women's Super League winner with Chelsea, while 31-year-old Endler helped Lyon win the Champions League courtesy of a superb victory over tournament favourites Barcelona last May.

THE FA WOMEN'S LEAGUE CUP - The 2nd Semi-Final Result..
Thursday 9th February..
West Ham United 0 Chelsea 7 (Kerr 3, 22, 45+1, 60, Kirby 10, James 55, Reiten 65)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17B77/production/_128634179_gettyimages-1464569184.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/11C86/production/_128583827_gettyimages-1464559748.jpgSam Kerr struck four goals in a scintillating display as Chelsea ruthlessly brushed aside West Ham to reach a fourth successive Continental League Cup final. The Women's Super League leaders, who won the cup in 2020 and 2021, were 3-0 up after just 22 minutes, with Kerr scoring twice, either side of a neat Fran Kirby finish. West Ham errors contributed to each goal and their generosity continued to hand Kerr her third, with Hawa Cissoko's stumble allowing the Australian to run clear and slot home. After Lauren James struck a fifth goal, Kerr was again left unmarked to net her fourth before Guro Reiten netted the Blues seventh with a deflected effort. The Blues, beaten by Manchester City in last season's final, will face Arsenal for the trophy at Selhurst Park on 5 March. The only concern for Emma Hayes' side was Kirby limping off with an injury in the first half. In the three seasons prior to this, Chelsea have won seven of the nine major domestic trophies on offer. That could become 10 from 12 by the end of 2022-23 if all goes to plan, with the Blues top of the WSL, into the fifth round of the FA Cup and now through to a fourth League Cup final. Few would bet against them in this form.

THE FA WOMEN'S SUPER LEAGUE - Fixture.
Saturday 11th February.
Manchester City v Arsenal - 12.30pmichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8BFF/production/_128593853_gettyimages-1464443160-1.jpgHaving met in the League Cup on Wednesday, Manchester City and Arsenal face off again less than 72 hours later in a game that could be decisive for either's WSL title ambitions. They both sit five points behind leaders Chelsea - Arsenal with a game in hand - and Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall thinks they could use the 1-0 midweek win to their advantage, although it could all depend on which side recovers best. "It's going to be a good guessing game for them," he said after Wednesday's win at Meadow Park. "But that's part of the reason also why it's important to have two different systems to make it harder for opponents to prepare for us. If we know how we can use it, then our opponents will never know for sure whether we're using one or the other. That of course makes their preparation much harder. "Mostly it's what the players do on an individual basis to recover, who's the best at sleeping or taking ice baths. You have to be a world champion in those things now for Thursday and Friday; that'll make the difference on Saturday." Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor played down the significance of the game as a decider. He said: "Both teams have good knowledge of each other. From kick-off, you will see them get into it straight away, knowing what they are up against. "When you play a team repeatedly it can be a good thing. You don't have to overthink it. "No one here needs telling about the importance, but we don't overegg it as must-win game. Performance levels are what we concentrate on. If we get those levels right, we can win."

Mead won the Golden Boot and player of the tournament awards as she helped England win Euro 2022. She is up for the Best Fifa women's player, while Messi is nominated for the men's award. Messi inspired Argentina to win the 2022 World Cup, scoring seven goals and being named best player. The Paris St-Germain forward is up against club-mate Kylian Mbappe - whose France side were beaten by Messi's Argentina in the final - and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. Arsenal forward Mead, who was also named 2022 BBC Sports Personality of the Year, is up against Spain's Alexia Putellas and Alex Morgan of the United States. The 27-year-old, who finished second to Putellas in the women's player category at the 2022 Ballon d'Or, scored six goals and provided five assists at Euro 2022. She made her 50th England appearance against Japan in November last year, before suffering a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury the following week in Arsenal's home Women's Super League defeat by Manchester United. Mead also scored 11 goals in 23 WSL games for Arsenal in the 2021-22 season. Fifa's 'The Best' awards cover games played between 7 August 2021 and 31 July 2022 - the day of the Euros final. The winners will be announced on 27th February in Paris.

City started the day fourth, behind the Gunners on goal difference, but scored in only the fourth minute when Kelly's low cross from the right was calmly finished by Hemp. Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger made a number of saves but was beaten again just before half-time, Kelly getting on the end of Khadija Shaw's pass to double the hosts' advantage. In the second half, Gunners striker Stina Blackstenius raced on to a long ball forward and had enough strength and power to hold off Steph Houghton, but saw her shot bounce off the foot of the right post. The visitors pulled a goal back thanks to Rafaelle Souza's looping header from Frida Maanum's deep free-kick, but it was not enough to deny City. Indeed, the hosts could have won by a larger margin but Yui Hasegawa fired against the crossbar from 30 yards out while Kelly shot just wide from outside the area. The victory takes Gareth Taylor's side above Arsenal into third, level on points with second-placed Manchester United, who play at Tottenham Hotspur against Spurs on Sunday. City, WSL champions in 2016, are also only two points behind leaders Chelsea, although the reigning champions, without a match this weekend, have a game in hand.

With United leading 2-1 in a nervy affair, England international Toone appeared to hit out at Summanen amid a scramble on the ground, leading to a straight red card. Summanen appeared to hold her face as the incident occurred in front of the touchline where Skinner was standing. "We want our players to show passion, commitment and energy," Skinner told Sky Sports. "It was play acting in my opinion. Obviously, with Ella [Toone] we'll look at that but I want to see that from her - I want to see passion in our players. "It's something we'll work on internally because we have to be accountable. I will appeal that red card." United returned to the top of the Women's Super League table after a dramatic and frantic second half in which they took the lead through Leah Galton. Shortly afterwards, Tottenham's January signing Bethany England scored in a third successive WSL game to make it 1-1, but team-mate Molly Bartrip diverted the ball into her own net less than a minute later. Toone's sending off followed but, despite the wild turn of events after the hour mark, United held on to claim a crucial victory, restoring their place at the top of the table and a one-point lead over Chelsea, who have a game in hand. Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on Tottenham and the side's manager Rehanne Skinner as their losing streak extends to seven WSL matches.

THE FA WOMEN'S SUPER LEAGUE - Results - Sunday 12th February.Brighton 2 (Olme 3, Carter 49 pen) Aston Villa 6 (Staniforth 15, Hanson 17, Daly 36, Nobbs 23, 43, 69) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/14B90/production/_128608848_gettyimages-1465308017.jpgJordan Nobbs scored two of Aston Villa's five first-half goals before completing her hat-trick after the break ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4C18/production/_128608491_gettyimages-1465301224.jpgKirsty Hanson scored the second of three Aston Villa goals in the space of eight minutes ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/D660/production/_128608845_gettyimages-1465301626.jpgJordan Nobbs scored a hat-trick as Aston Villa thrashed Women's Super League strugglers Brighton. Julia Olme headed the home side in front after three minutes but Villa came storming back with five first-half goals to stun their hosts. Carla Ward's side drew level when Lucy Staniforth nodded in a 15th-minute corner and were ahead two minutes later as Kirsty Hanson volleyed in from Kenza Dali's cross to finish off a lovely move. Hanson then turned provider with a hat-trick of assists before the break, twice teeing up Nobbs either side of squaring for Rachel Daly to score her 10th WSL goal of the season. Danielle Carter pulled a goal back for Brighton from the penalty spot early in the second half but any thoughts of a comeback soon faded. Nobbs completed her hat-trick with the pick of the goals in the 69th minute, the former Arsenal midfielder giving Brighton goalkeeper Lydia Williams no chance as she picked out the top corner from fully 30 yards out. Victory takes Villa up to fifth in the table, while Brighton stay 10th, just two points clear of bottom side Leicester. Liverpool 0 Leicester 1 (Cain 8)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/ABCC/production/_128608934_gettyimages-1465302368.jpgWillie Kirk says Leicester City are "far from done" after Hannah Cain earned a Women's Super League win at Liverpool to lift their survival hopes. The Foxes forward peeled off her marker and guided a short Courtney Nevin corner through a sea of bodies into the net. CJ Bott was inches from doubling their advantage as Liverpool goalkeeper Rachael Laws scrambled to divert her well-struck long-range effort on to the crossbar. Victory moved Leicester, bottom of the table, to within a point of a position of safety. "Everybody wrote us off," Kirk said. "Everybody said it was gone, it was done. People were almost playing as a build-up to next season. "This group is far from done. We've got a lot of points left in us yet, I think. I think it will be really sweet come the end of the season when we've proven a lot of people wrong." Liverpool looked sluggish for most of the first half after their slow start to the game but came out re-energised after the break and put Leicester under continued pressure. Their best chance of the game went begging as Ceri Holland was denied by Janina Leitzig inside the six -yard box before substitute Natasha Dowie hit the crossbar with the rebound, while Missy Bo Kearns came agonisingly close in injury time. And a Leicester side who seemed reassured by their early goal remained composed in the face of pressure as they clung on to secure only their second victory of the season. The Foxes, who have six points, now sit one point behind second-bottom Reading with a game in hand. Liverpool are eighth with 11. "The three points is huge," Kirk added. "I think the biggest thing today was the girls have seen and felt that you don't always need to play well to get three points. "It wasn't pretty, it was definitely relentless [from Liverpool] and we needed that. We spoke this morning about how the match is about 12% of your working week and it's about how hard you're working the rest is how you get these results. "They're working so, so hard in training, so diligently in everything they do. That's the reward you get." The FA Women's Super League Tablewww.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/womens-super-league/table

Emma Hayes: Chelsea boss says women's football is 'middle class'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/BDB6/production/_128666584_emmahayes.jpgWomen's football is "middle class" and girls do not have the same access to playing football as boys, says Chelsea boss Emma Hayes. In April, the UK government announced a major national review of domestic women's football. Earlier this month, the Football Association also announced plans to ensure every girl with talent has access to high-quality training. "We should be thinking differently," Hayes said. "Women's football is quite middle class in my opinion, in terms of the locations, and the pedigree of players that are coming are often coming from suburban, urban belts around the training grounds," added the Blues boss. "They're not the Alex Scotts, the Rachel Yankeys - (they're) not coming to our facilities in the same way. "If you want a diverse group involved with our game at an elite level, then perhaps we should be travelling into the cities more." A lack of diversity and opportunity have been long-term issues in English women's football. The number of black, Asian and minority ethnic players in the England team for a major tournament decreased from six in 2007 to two mixed-heritage players at the 2019 World Cup. There were three mixed-heritage players - Jess Carter, Nikita Parris and Demi Stokes - in the Euro 2022 squad, but none were part of the starting 11 which went unchanged through the tournament. Compared with the men's game, the pool of black, Asian and minority ethnic players to choose from in women's football is a lot smaller. It is estimated the proportion of players in the Women's Super League is lower - between 10-15% - compared with about 33% in the Premier League. "Boys, generally, in the academy game, they're having parents that are taking them somewhere or they will get on trains to do it - girls won't," said Hayes. "Families won't let the girls go to games." Following their success at Euro 2022, the Lionesses wrote a letter to Conservative party leadership candidates to ensure "every young girl" can play football at school. The team highlighted only 63% of girls can play football in PE lessons, according to a FA campaign published in 2021. "My nine-year-old niece goes to school and says to me, 'why do I have the girls' sessions only once a week and the boys have three?'," added Hayes. "I don't know, why is that? I bet you that's probably the case across the board. "I wonder in the community how often those pitches are available for girls in much the same way they are for the boys. "I don't know what to tell my niece when she cries, when she says, 'why don't I get to play it more like (the boys)?'."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/ECF9/production/_128656606_gettyimages-1247199855.jpgEngland's defence of their Arnold Clark Cup title got off to the perfect start as they comfortably beat South Korea at Stadium MK. Chelsea's Lauren James was a standout performer as she scored her first goal for England in the second half after earlier winning a penalty, which Georgia Stanway coolly fired in for the opener. England had dominated possession and were cruising in the second half after Chloe Kelly made it 2-0 within 16 seconds of the restart, before Manchester United's Alessia Russo smartly dinked it past the goalkeeper at the near post. James' thumping strike late on sealed victory for the European champions, who won the inaugural Arnold Clark Cup tournament last year. Sarina Wiegman's side made light work of South Korea, ranked 15th in the world, and already move to the top of the standings on goal difference after Belgium's Tessa Wullaert scored a late winner to beat Italy 2-1 in the tournament opener earlier on Thursday. Victory also extends England's unbeaten run under Wiegman, going 674 days without defeat - their last coming in April 2021 - as they prepare for this summer's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Tottenham-Man Utd: Eveliina Summanen charged with simulation as Ella Toone red overturned..ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/DC04/production/_128642365_toone.jpgTottenham's Eveliina Summanen has been charged with deceiving a match official in an incident that led to Manchester United's Ella Toone being sent off. Toone had her red card overturned on Wednesday and is available for Manchester United's next three games. The England midfielder was sent off late on in United's 2-1 win on Sunday after appearing to hit out at Summanen. The Football Association said Toone had made "a successful claim of wrongful dismissal". Finland midfielder Summanen could face a two-match suspension if the charge of "successful deception of a match official" is proven. The Football Association said: "It is alleged that the midfielder committed a clear act of simulation during the 80th minute which led to a opponent being sent off, and therefore her behaviour amounts to improper conduct." After the match, United boss Marc Skinner said he believed Summanen was "play acting". United returned to the top of the Women's Super League table with the win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They hold a one-point lead over Chelsea, who have a game in hand.
