Courtney Nevin: Leicester City sign Australia full-back on loan..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F1EA/production/_128403916_gettyimages-1441614419.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/A3CA/production/_128403914_gettyimages-1441614318.jpgLeicester City have signed defender Courtney Nevin on loan from Swedish side Hammarby IF. The 20-year-old Australia full-back joins the Women's Super League side for the rest of the season. Nevin said: "It feels really good to be here. Leicester City have so much potential, and I'm excited to get stuck in and work hard for this team." She began her career with the Western Sydney Wanderers before joining Melbourne Victory in 2021. A move to Europe with Hammarby followed a year later, where she has made 22 league appearances for the Damallsvenskan club. The 10-cap international added: "The Swedish league is very similar to the WSL. It's very physical, very technical, and hopefully I can bring those attributes to the team and help get some more points on the table."

Emma Hayes: Chelsea boss says solutions needed to stop WSL call-offs..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/434E/production/_128403271_gettyimages-1458849767-1.jpg"We've got pitch covers and heaters that are designed to prevent frozen pitches. If they don't do that job, then we have to have another solution," said Hayes. "That's not my job - that's for the league and the clubs to sort so we never have to cancel games. I've said for years that cancelling games has a detrimental impact on our sport. "Whatever it takes, to ensure that fans travelling up and down the country aren't having games cancelled six or seven minutes in, is something we should all work towards." Only four WSL clubs - Manchester City, Manchester United, Leicester City and Reading - have undersoil heating at their primary grounds. "In general, if this is the top division for women's football, then we should be afforded exactly the same opportunity," said Hayes when asked if clubs should invest in undersoil heating. "This isn't about Chelsea, it's about women's football and being in a place to build a fanbase, a business and all of those things without equal access to things for many years. "Someone pointed out that undersoil heating is not environmentally-friendly so maybe in an ideal world you would have an environmentally-friendly pitch so you can play in the top division." Arsenal Manager Jonas Eidevall urges WSL to avoid 'emotional decisions' on undersoil heating..ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/1A41/production/_128412760_gettyimages-1456782444.jpg"The easy thing is to try and fix the topic of the day," said Eidevall. "I completely agree with [Chelsea manager] Emma Hayes that to try to play that game and what happened was really bad for the league. "But when we look at it from a zoomed-out perspective, we need to really see what the priorities should be with investment and we can't make it emotional and because this was a problem yesterday, that all money should go into that. "We need to take good decisions on where the investment should be going to grow the game in the long term and I'm very doubtful that should be put into undersoil heating at the moment." Arsenal boss Eidevall urged clubs to explore "short-term solutions" to preventing postponements until long-term solutions are decided, highlighting communication as a necessity. "Early communication saves fans money and time for not travelling to grounds. I also think from a league perspective it saves us from not seeing the pictures we saw from Chelsea v Liverpool," he said. "It was really bad advertising for women's football and the WSL more specifically. Long term, how do you solve that? "I think you have to look at all the investments you need to make in the game and you need to prioritise. There's so many things you would like to invest in the women's game at the moment."

THE FA WOMEN'S LEAGUE CUP - QUARTER-FINALS..
Wednesday 25th January...Results.Bristol City 0 Manchester City 6 (Raso 8, 12, Hemp 35, 60, Shaw 30, Fowler 44)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1635B/production/_128417909_gettyimages-1459428944.jpgEngland international Lauren Hemp left Bristol City in 2018 to join Manchester CityHolders Manchester City cruised into the semi-finals of the Continental League Cup with victory over Championship side Bristol City. Gareth Taylor's team were 5-0 up at half-time following a brace from Hayley Raso, while England winger Lauren Hemp scored either side of the break. Returning to her former club, Hemp was assisted on both occasions by Khadija Shaw, who also got on the scoresheet. Summer signing Mary Fowler netted on the stroke of half-time. Manchester City have won all four matches in the competition this season without conceding a goal. Bristol City, who sit second in the Women's Championship, failed to have a shot on target on a chilly evening at Ashton Gate. Liverpool 0 West Ham United 1 (Dagny Brynjarsdóttir 87)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B145/production/_128418354_gettyimages-1459438559.jpgWest Ham captain Dagny Brynjarsdottir scored a late winner against Liverpool to seal her side's place in the Continental League Cup semi-finals. Brynjarsdottir headed in a superb curling ball from Viviane Asseyi in the 87th minute at Prenton Park. Liverpool had earlier had a goal ruled out when Katie Stengel was flagged offside after chipping into the net. The Reds had the better chances in the second half before West Ham grabbed victory in the closing stages. Stengel, Liverpool's top scorer in the Women's Super League this season, was their biggest threat, but denied by visiting goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold. Asseyi also came close for West Ham, while defender Kate Longhurst had an effort pushed behind by Reds goalkeeper Faye Kirby. Tottenham Hotspur 1 (Spence 90+4) Chelsea 3 (Kerr 38, 86, Kirby 68)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/3FFD/production/_128418361_gettyimages-1459437173.jpgSam Kerr scored twice as Chelsea overcame Tottenham to book a place in the Continental League Cup semi-finals. Last year's runners-up took the lead seven minutes before half-time when Erin Cuthbert's shot was turned in by Kerr from close range. Substitute Fran Kirby coolly flicked in Chelsea's second after the break when she was teed up by Lauren James. Kerr made it 3-0 with a dinked finish late on, before Drew Spence claimed a consolation for Spurs. On-loan Arsenal midfielder Mana Iwabuchi made her debut for Tottenham and almost set up Rosella Ayane in the first half but was otherwise fairly quiet. There were late chances for Tottenham's Bethany England, who joined from Chelsea this month, before Kirby missed a golden opportunity at the other end. The draw for the semi-final takes place on Thursday, 26th January at 4.30pm.

The former England Under-19 international is available for Leicester's FA Cup fourth-round match with Reading on Sunday. Jen Beattie: Scotland legend leaves second family behind as she announces international retirement..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12C68/production/_128440967_gettyimages-1150836616.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/45F0/production/_128440971_gettyimages-1432652403.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/128EE/production/_128441067_gettyimages-1452173835.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/B738/production/_128440964_gettyimages-1288396764-2.jpgJen Beattie has dedicated more than half her life to playing for Scotland. Now 31, she was just 14 years old when she was first called up to her country's under-19 squad. At 16 she made her senior debut, before going on to earn 144 caps, captain her country and lead Scotland to their first women's World Cup. No wonder then that the team feels like family. Having played her whole club career outside of Scotland since 2009, she admits she often saw her fellow players more than her own flesh and blood. "I was 18 when I moved to England to play, then Montpellier, so I was always abroad," she told BBC Sport. "To meet up every six or seven weeks to be with Scottish people, to be home, that's why I've stuck at it so long. "Meeting with mates, playing for the badge, the off-pitch stuff is what I will miss the most. Being around mates for so long, that comfort when you're playing a lot. I probably saw them more than family." It is a family with which she has seen the women's game in Scotland, Britain and further afield grow massively. Having played all over the country - from McDiarmid Park to the Strathclyde Homes Stadium in Dumbarton in the early days of Beattie's international involvement, Scotland's women now play all their home games at Hampden Park, which Beattie picks out as being the biggest difference since the early says of her career. "Playing at Hampden has been huge for the women's game," she says. "We always dreamed of playing at Hampden and it has been so special for the fans coming as well. "It is now home for Scotland, whether men or women."

Mary Earps: England and Manchester United goalkeeper's remarkable career turnaround..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F125/production/_128433716_gettyimages-1458515609.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/7FDD/production/_128433723_gettyimages-1242238912.jpgA few years ago Mary Earps was contemplating retirement after being dropped from the England squad - now she is a European champion and one of six goalkeepers nominated for the Fifa Best Award. It has been a remarkable turnaround for Earps, 29, who could not have imagined the successes that came her way in 2022 when she sat on the bench as a third-choice goalkeeper at the 2019 World Cup. In the past 18 months, Earps has consolidated her position as England and Manchester United's undisputed number one, started every game as the Lionesses won Euro 2022 and recently became the first goalkeeper to keep 50 clean sheets in the Women's Super League. Recognition has since come thick and fast for Earps and there may be more at the Fifa Best awards. "I was blown away [to be nominated]. There aren't loads of awards around for goalkeepers," Earps told BBC Sport. "I texted my mum and dad straight away. They humbly replied with just 'well done'. It was a standard Earps family reply, super chilled. It's really nice and the real icing on the cake. "It doesn't happen often and it never really happens to me so I forget [these awards] exist in a way. To be named on the shortlist, it came out of the blue, and it was really cool." When Earps started at Wembley against Germany in 2019, she thought that was her chance to prove herself to then-England manager Phil Neville. But she was left out of the next squad and would not represent her country for another two years. She came to accept her international career was over and considered retirement. "Without rain you don't get rainbows," Earps said as she reflected on her achievements in 2022 and how much things have changed. "People keep asking how I'm ever going to top 2022 and I'm like, 'I have no idea.' It's more about having a different perspective on things. "Life's been pretty great the last 12-18 months with everything that's happened. The stuff we've achieved has been so much fun. But there is a very real dark side to this game and to life. "Sport is an intense window into what life looks like. Life isn't always fantastic and you don't always feel great. Work isn't always amazing. I've experienced that in a very real way in football. "I like to see it as the beauty of where I've been to where I am now and appreciate it that little bit more." Earps, who has a degree in information management and business studies, has had to adjust to her new-found success. She is stopped for photographs, spotted at airports and in the street - she even has a bus named after her in her hometown West Bridgford, near Nottingham. Before the Euros she took a step back from social media, deactivating her Twitter account to avoid any "distractions". "I didn't think people would want to take pictures with me or want to talk to me. I never expected that," said Earps. "In general, if there's a billboard, a striker is going to be on it. I'd been out with [England striker] Alessia Russo for example and she'd get asked for a photo. That was normal. "It started happening to me too! I wouldn't say I'm famous in any way but it's nice to be recognised within my industry and the women's football industry. "To have people talk about my performances as a goalkeeper has been so fun. People would only talk about me when something had gone wrong. Now it's nice." When Sarina Wiegman joined England in September 2021, she recalled Earps after a two-year absence and made the goalkeeper her number one for the Euros. "The reality is my life before Sarina Wiegman and my life after Sarina Wiegman is totally different," said Earps. "I will always have the utmost respect and admiration for her. It's about the way she has dealt with me, communicated with me and tried to get the best out of me. "I had lost a lot of confidence and belief in myself before she came around. Having the floor completely taken from under you out of nowhere is something that's really hard to process and deal with. "When Sarina came in and picked me for the squad I just thought I'd go, do my best and have no expectations. The way it all went... I could never have written it in a million years. "I was just so thankful I was given an opportunity. That's all I've ever wanted and Sarina gave me that." Earps said Wiegman's trust in her is an "incredible feeling" and the goalkeeper is able to express herself on the pitch. "I feel really good. I'm really enjoying my football and playing. I want that to continue," she added. "I still want to win more things but I have to keep grafting. I want to play at the highest level I possibly can." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0AAD/production/_128433720_gettyimages-1431489895.jpg

Women's World Cup 2023: Organisers aim for record two billion audience..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DFF6/production/_128443375_gettyimages-1356675426.jpgFootball Australia chief executive James Johnson is aiming to double the 2019 event's global TV audienceWomen's World Cup organisers believe a record two billion people could watch the tournament this year. Football's world governing body Fifa said the 2019 tournament in France attracted 1.12 billion viewers. But the 2023 edition in Australia and New Zealand could double that, Football Australia chief executive James Johnson told BBC Sport. "We think that's achievable. We know we'll get a good audience from the traditional football markets," he said. "We're also in a time zone where all the big populations are. Our neighbours are China, our neighbours are Indonesia. We're very close to the west coast of the United States. And we're also very close to India. So there's going to be so many people that would tune in and watch this competition. "You're going to have two billion people that are going to watch this tournament from all over the world." Johnson said the 2022 Women's European Championships, won by hosts England, had proved "extremely inspiring" to the organisers, adding: "We were watching that tournament very, very closely. And we took a lot of learnings from that tournament." That European final was played in front of 87,192 at Wembley last July and Johnson said full, large stadiums would make the World Cup a spectacle for television audiences. He said Football Australia was lobbying Fifa to change the venue of Australia's opening match from the 45,000-seater Sydney Football Stadium to the 80,000-capacity Stadium Australia, and expects 1.5 million people to attend games. Johnson is hoping Australia's Matildas can emulate England's Lionesses in going far in the July and August tournament, which he says would help to boost the women's game in the country. But he also says a successful World Cup could leave a lasting legacy globally: "I think that given this tournament is in a different time zone the women's game is going to tap into new markets and if we can get into China, if we can get into India, if we get into Indonesia, and if we can win the battle, not just against other sports with different entertainment competitors in those markets, that's great for women's football because that's where the future growth is."

Women's Super League - Transfer..
Ruby Mace - Manchester City - Leicester City - Loan
Ruby Mace: Manchester City midfielder joins WSL strugglers Leicester on loan..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E780/production/_128446295_gettyimages-1246336764.jpgManchester City midfielder Ruby Mace has joined Leicester City on loan for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old becomes the Foxes' fifth new arrival of the January transfer window. Mace, an England Under-19 international, made her senior debut for Arsenal aged 17 before moving to Manchester. Leicester are bottom of the Women's Super League with just three points so far this season. Mace told the Leicester website: "I'm really happy and it feels good to be here. I want to showcase my ability and help the team as much as possible. "I can see how hard the girls are working and I want to be in that kind of environment where you are constantly pushing." Mace, who can play as a midfielder or central defender, joined City from Arsenal in 2021, signing her first professional contract on her 18th birthday, but has made just one WSL appearance so far this season. She follows the permanent signing of defender Georgia Eaton-Collins and forward Remy Siemsen, as well as the loans of goalkeeper Janina Leitzig and defender Courtney Nevin into the King Power Stadium. Leicester are in the WSL relegation spot, but beat Brighton and Hove Albion 3-0 in their most recent league game for their first victory of the campaign.

Alessia Russo honoured by Canterbury Christchurch University..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/240/cpsprodpb/15C1A/production/_128441198_russo1getty.jpgEngland star Alessia Russo has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Canterbury Christchurch University. The Manchester United forward, who was born in Maidstone, received the award during a ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral on Friday. The university said the award was for her work inspiring other women and girls to take up football. Ms Russo said Canterbury was a place that would always "hold a special place in my heart". "It's home of a lot of sports, and I used to come down as a little girl to compete here," she said. "It's nice to come back to these places because it's where you remember all your fond memories from when you were young." Ms Russo signed for Brighton and Hove Albion in 2017 and made seven appearances in the Women's Championship. The footballer returned to Kent last week to speak at a school in Tonbridge about women's football. "I got involved with one of their PE sessions. That stuff is what fills me with a lot of joy," she said. "Being a footballer, you have a lot of responsibility on the pitch, but off the pitch when you can do stuff like that, [it] means a lot." After a spell in the US, she returned to play for Manchester United, which currently sits at the top of the Women's Super League table. The 23-year-old also scored four goals as England won the European Championships in the summer of 2022. Russo's backheel goal in the semi-final of the competition against Sweden was nominated for the Fifa Puskas award, which will be decided on 27 February.

Alessia Russo: Man Utd boss 'hopeful' striker will sign new deal..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12172/production/_128489047_gettyimages-1448381158.jpgManchester United manager Marc Skinner is "very hopeful" England striker Alessia Russo will sign a new contract to remain at the club next season. United rejected a second world-record bid of almost £500,000 from Arsenal for Russo on transfer deadline day. Russo's current deal at United expires this summer and she turned down a contract extension in June. "I will try everything in our power to do so. There are always factors in it. I don't hide things," said Skinner. "There's definitely parts we need to work out but actually I think she has a real love for this club and we have a real love for her. "I would be very hopeful and we're going to try to work off the field to do that. But on the field Alessia and I will continue to work towards this club's success." United are top of the Women's Super League and three points ahead of third-placed Arsenal. Russo, 23, has scored five times in nine WSL appearances this season and is free to talk to other clubs outside of England as she has fewer than six months remaining on her contract. Asked if he had spoken to Russo since Tuesday's deadline, Skinner said: "I spoke with Alessia this morning and we had a really good meeting, really positive. "She has a great attitude and is exactly the type of person we are looking to keep here, keep having negotiations with and keep conversations around that. "She wants to win here. I can't speak any more highly of her attitude. She just gets on with her job. We had a good moment this morning, had a good meeting and she trained really well this morning." Skinner also said it was "huge" for United's title challenge to keep Russo for the remainder of the season. "What's clear from this window is that as Manchester United we don't want to be a selling club," he added. "We want to be a team that builds to try and push for titles. We're a club that has fierce ambition."

Women's World Cup 2023: Co-hosts Australia and New Zealand write to Fifa over Saudi sponsor..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1615A/production/_128485409_gettyimages-1244139756-1.jpgCo-hosts Australia and New Zealand have asked Fifa to "urgently clarify" reports that Saudi Arabia's tourism authority is to be named as an official sponsor of the 2023 Women's World Cup. A deal with Visit Saudi is set to be announced and has already been criticised by human rights groups. The Gulf Kingdom has been accused of human rights abuses. Football Australia and New Zealand Football said they were not consulted and are "disappointed". They have both written to football's world governing body, while Amnesty International called it "crude exploitation" of the sport. The Women's World Cup takes place from 20 July to 20 August in cities across Australia and New Zealand, and organisers believe a record two billion people could watch the tournament. The sponsorship deal - yet to be formally announced - is part of a new commercial partnership structure that Fifa set up to allow brands to specifically support the women's game. While the size of the deal has not been revealed, insiders claim it will provide a significant boost to the women's game, and the money generated will be reinvested back into football. "Football Australia understands Fifa has entered into a destination partnership agreement in respect to the Fifa Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023," Football Australia said in a statement. "We are very disappointed that Football Australia were not consulted on this matter prior to any decision being made. Football Australia and New Zealand Football have jointly written to Fifa to urgently clarify the situation." New Zealand Football added: "If these reports prove correct, we are shocked and disappointed to hear this as New Zealand Football haven't been consulted by Fifa at all on this matter." Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in sporting events in recent years but has been accused of using events to 'sportswash' its reputation. There are concerns over human rights in the country, women's rights and the use of the death penalty. Women's rights campaigners have been imprisoned, despite some reform under crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, such as an end to the ban on women driving. Western intelligence agencies claim the crown prince ordered the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 - which he denies. "It would be quite the irony for Saudi's tourism body to sponsor the largest celebration of women's sport in the world when you consider that, as a woman in Saudi Arabia, you can't even have a job without the permission of your male guardian," said Amnesty International Australia campaigner Nikita White. Saudi Arabia's sports minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal previously told BBC Sport that he believes the country will always face global criticism. "I think we will always be criticised but we have to look at what's best for our country and our people, and what is actually developing our youth towards the future," Prince Abdulaziz said. On Wednesday, the nation was awarded the hosting rights to stage the men's Asian Cup in 2027. Saudi Arabia is also bidding to host the Women's Asian Cup for the first time in 2026. Although Saudi Arabia only sent women to the Olympics for the first time in 2012, it has taken steps to develop women's football in recent years, with female fans allowed to attend football matches for the first time in 2018. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has appointed two women to its board of directors and created a women's football department in 2019. In 2020, a Women's Football League was launched, and last month Saudi Arabia hosted and won a four-nation women football tournament in their bid to feature in the Fifa women's world rankings for the first time.

Vicky Losada: Roma sign Spain midfielder from Manchester City..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/CD81/production/_128490625_gettyimages-1244245236.jpgManchester City midfielder Vicky Losada has left the Women's Super League club to join Italian side Roma. The Spanish international signed for City in 2021 from Barcelona. During her two seasons in Manchester, Losada made 30 appearances, scored nine times and won the Women's League Cup. In a post on Instagram, the 31-year-old thanked "the club, staff and all the workers at Manchester City" adding "you've been great to me since day one". The 2020-21 Champions League winner said: "Thank you to all the fans that have been supporting us every game and helping the growth of women's football, you are a key part in this." Losada, who has played 65 times for Spain, spent two seasons at Arsenal from 2015, winning the Women's FA Cup and the League Cup, before joining Barcelona. Manchester City are fourth in the WSL and will face bottom side Leicester City on Saturday 4th February. Easther Mayi Kith: WSL strugglers Reading sign Cameroon defender..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/43F5/production/_128479371_gettyimages-638448688.jpgReading have completed the signing of Cameroon defender Easther Mayi Kith from Kristianstads DFF on an 18-month deal, subject to visa approval. Kith, 25, reached the last 16 at the 2019 Women's World Cup with her country before losing to England. Earlier on transfer deadline day, Reading loaned forward Natasha Dowie to Liverpool until the end of the season. Reading boss Kelly Chambers said she was "really looking forward" to working with Kith in the Women's Super League.

Amalie Thestrup: Danish striker joins WSL side West Ham on loan..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C2CB/production/_128476894_gettyimages-1240066211.jpgWest Ham United have signed forward Amalie Thestrup on loan from PSV for the rest of the season, subject to international clearance. Thestrup, 27, is the Hammers' third signing this month, joining defenders Amber Tysiak and Anouk Denton. "Amalie will bring a non-stop work ethic on and off the pitch," said West Ham head coach Paul Konchesky. "She will make defenders know they have been in a game with her work rate and never-say-die attitude." Leicester City's Natasha Flint joins Celtic Women on loan until summer..ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/5CAF/production/_128472732_flint.jpgLeicester City striker Natasha Flint has joined Celtic on loan. The 26-year-old, who signed from Blackburn Rovers, was top scorer in the 2020-21 season as Leicester won promotion to the Women's Super League. Having scored 25 goals in 63 appearances, she will now aid second-top Celtic's bid to win the Scottish Women's Premier League. Celtic head coach Fran Alonso knows Flint from his time in English football. "I suffered a few times when she scored against my previous team," he told Celtic's website. "Tash is a gifted player with fantastic finishing ability, has great one-v-one skills and very good long-range shooting, so in terms of weapons, Tash brings a lot to the team. On top of that, Tash brings lots of experience at the highest level." She moves from a Leicester side currently propping up the Super League and in danger of relegation to a Celtic side sitting three points behind SWPL1 leaders Glasgow City.

WSL Results - Saturday 4th February..
Leicester City 0 Manchester City 2 (Shaw 61, Kelly 74)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9616/production/_128522483_dc997e6f853887ddbc6b69b5e2862441f5eee2c7.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/007A/production/_128522100_5ee9c8cb4806b3cac3a31df171b5ee63e15304b7.jpgChloe Kelly scored her first Women's Super League goal of the season as Manchester City beat bottom side Leicester City to move up to third. WSL top scorer Bunny Shaw's 61st-minute looping header - her 10th league goal of the season - put Gareth Taylor's side in front. Kelly's superb strike made sure of the points 13 minutes later. The England forward cut in from the right before arrowing a low left-footed strike into the far corner. It took an inspired performance from Leicester goalkeeper Janina Leitzig to keep the hosts level for as long as they were but she had no chance with either goal. Aston Villa 1 (Green 33 og) Brighton & Hove Albion 1 (Olme 74)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/314E/production/_128522621_gettyimages-1456417223.jpgBrighton earned a potentially vital point at Aston Villa as they battle against relegation from the Women's Super League. The visitors handed Villa the lead when Kayleigh Green turned a cross into her own net on 32 minutes. However, they snatched a second-half equaliser through Julia Olme following a Villa defensive mix-up. A draw lifts Brighton five points above bottom club Leicester, who were beaten by Manchester City earlier. Jens Scheuer's side are on eight points from 10 games after earning their first point under the German coach, while Villa stay sixth in the WSL with 17 points from 12 matches.

Sunday 5th February...Results.
Manchester United 0 Everton 0ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C924/production/_128529415_f955ce187758e48dd392b7bb6d72cc15ddd88528-1.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/1310C/production/_128529087_gettyimages-1463075909.jpgManchester United were overtaken at the top of the Women's Super League as they were held to a hugely frustrating goalless draw by Everton at Leigh Sports Village. Marc Skinner's side missed a number of huge opportunities on a frantic afternoon and it opened the door for rivals Chelsea to go top of the WSL with a 3-2 victory over Tottenham. United did more than enough to win the game as England international Ella Toone hit the post in the second half after Lucia Garcia struck inches over the bar before the break. Everton's Jess Park, on loan from Manchester City, almost caused an upset late on when she sliced wide after a period of intense pressure from United. But the Blues held on to claim an impressive point as United fell two points behind Chelsea in the title race. Liverpool 2 (Kearns 62, Holland 65) Reading 0ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/451C/production/_128529671_gettyimages-1463104076.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/03E0/production/_128529900_gettyimages-1463105942.jpgTwo quick-fire goals earned Liverpool a vital win against Women's Super League relegation rivals Reading. Missy Bo Kearns scrambled in the opening goal in the 62nd minute, before Ceri Holland slammed in from close range three minutes later. Victory moved Liverpool eight points above the WSL relegation places. Reading have lost all seven of their away league games this season, and are four points above bottom club Leicester having played two matches more. Kelly Chambers' side had come closest to scoring at Prenton Park, as they sought a first league away point in this campaign. Emma Harries hit the crossbar early on and both teams had efforts cleared off the line, but neither found a breakthrough until the second half. Emma Koivisto latched onto a looping cross from midfield and slid through for Kearns to slot into the bottom left-hand corner. Megan Campbell's massive throw-in was then nodded on at the near post to set up a simple tap-in for Holland to claim Liverpool's second goal. Tottenham Hotspur 2 (England 16, Karczewska 88) Chelsea 3 (Carter 8, James 27, Reiten 64)ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/332F/production/_128530131_38b927db7b065192c73d7c05ce16f3245f67c187.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/3518/production/_128529531_gettyimages-1463092502.jpgEmma Hayes called her Chelsea team "sloppy" despite returning to the top of the Women's Super League by beating Tottenham 3-2. Chelsea lead Manchester United by two points after they were held at home by Everton. However Hayes felt Chelsea were below their best and she was relieved they were able to "grind" out a win. "It was just sloppy. I thought it was sloppy from us defensively," she told BBC Two after the game. "Both goals we could've prevented as a result of us switching off. We can control those things and we as a team have to be mindful of that. "This is a tough league and to everybody who thinks it's going to be near-perfect performances, it's not. It's going to be a grind to the end and I'm happy to have three points." Jess Carter headed the Blues in front after seven minutes, however they were pegged back when Bethany England scored against her former club. Lauren James cut inside and fired in off the post to restore Chelsea's advantage, before Guro Reiten secured the win. However Nikola Karczewska's late strike ensured a nervy finish for Chelsea, which annoyed Hayes. Chelsea are unbeaten in 19 matches in all competitions, having not lost since a 3-2 defeat by Liverpool in their opening game of this season. They condemned Spurs to a sixth straight defeat in the league, while Chelsea have now won all seven of their WSL matches against their London rivals.
