I get that, b.....but isn't it the same for every club in top 4 divisions? If that's the attitude, it feels like the first 10 matches, like 20% of the season, is: "oh well the season hasn't started yet because we haven't gotten in the players we want..." So many variables after window closes. What happens if we don't recruit as required? We've lost the initiative, momentum and new season bounce. It is the same for all top 4 division clubs, yes. FCs in say the Prem and Championship would of used their first few games to check out good young players (probably young),to see if they want them in the first team squad,if not they will probably be loaned out. These players are more than likely good players already, but are not yet quite good enough for eg Barnsley, Stoke City or Newcastle United. Also, there are players and agents holding out for an offer from a 2nd tier fc,but as we get nearer to the window closure, these people start to look more favourably at the 3rd tier. In the same way Joe is experimenting with his squad right now so are other clubs and significantly top two tier clubs. Joe has identified the 5 or 6 he wants. Why settle for other when there is a reasonable chance of getting his targets. To use the band theme again (as Joe did post Pompey),why have eg a drummer that can't jump from 4 time,to 3.Or why settle for a drummer that insanely wants to stick Keith Moon-esque solos twice in every verse, when 4 weeks later,4 gigs later if you will ,you can get the drummer that appreciates the song and therefore is happy playing it. Rovers would of played 6 3rd tier games by the close of window. Imo a risk period of 6 games to get the squad/band members together and then to play sweet music. In the scenario we fail to sign these 5 or 6,I'll take a 5 from bottom finish now thank you and try again next season.I think we would stay up. Granted o2o2bo2ba, there is an element of risk in Joe's strategy, but his record is good,I admire him holding his nerve and insistinghe wants his targets.Adds spice and excitement to this era. "Don't panic Captain Mainwaring"! 🤞👍 You see, I like that post, even though I intrinsically don't agree with it....!? That's why I like this forum. It's all about opinion on what we see and hear. I just think post match comments were borderline b s... I get the spice excitement etc, but would prefer 1 or 3 points legitimately, without yellow card tackles, changed enforcement on opposition and a genuine passion. I kinda get the band/music metaphor. And to a certain extent, although am pains to see it, the top clubs experiment first few games....but: We're Bristol Rovers FFS. We need all the help we can get. As much as I hear a bit of excuse in post match comments (BG was cr@p at it too), I think it should be called out. Hey, b, if you're Happy with that consumption, I'm Grumpy, and we'll agree to disagree as we are mere dwarves in scheme of things.....but your 🤞 says a lot...... where is the Steve White who'll score us a tally to a) keep us up? b) present us with a credible promotion challenge in this division? As ever, we'll see.

We have earnt a decent reputation for improving good loan signings, last season.
Youngsters allowed to leave ,well that's because they were not going to get a game.
Unlike Lucca Hoole.

Some interesting comments on the BBC HYS: "Barton turned Fleetwood into a team of thugs that kicked their way around the pitch and he's bang on schedule doing the same thing at rovers. It's a shame because they always bring a good crowd to Fratton and their fans deserve better". "I think Bristol Rovers and football in general would be better off without the likes of Joey Barton. From what I've read it seems like he has been given plenty of opportunities to learn from his mistakes but hasn't". "Barton needs to be gone! He's just a violent thug". "The team is a reflection of the manager. If the manager condones violence that's what his players provide". "Another excellent team effort (Portsmouth), a good 3 points against a bunch of thugs who want to kick their way to a win". "A superb game ruined by the thuggish behaviour of Barton's team. But what else should we expect from a thug".

His career ended by a crude tackle from a Southampton player (a Mike Pickering I believe, from memory) breaking his ankle badly. In his autobiography Ray Kendall says that neither Lawrie McMenemy nor Southampton bothered to enquire about him or offer any sympathy. Happens. Unfortunate, but there you are. I was at the game. The referee was unbelievably biased. Pompey were every bit as physical, probably more so. But football fans eh?

When JB was manager of Fleetwood did you consider him to be the victim of a savage and underprivileged childhood who should not be blamed for his continuous acts of physical and verbal violence towards others ? And at that time did you think he was a great student of the game who enlightened fans with his tremendous knowledge and who’s teams played an exciting brand of football. Or was your opinion the same as 99% of Gasheads . . . at that time ?

JB falls into a similar category to Steve Evans and perhaps even Neil Warnock in that if they are not managing “ your” club then a huge percentage dislike them intensely. I never doubt your sincerity Bas but there is such great hypocrisy over this issue as I think Holmes highlighted in the early days when he found posts from Rovers fans made when JB was appointed at Fleetwood. There is nothing wrong with someone changing their mind about JB but IMO there is an awful lot wrong with haranguing anyone who chooses not to change their mind and accusing them of being disloyal to Rovers. Our loyalty to Rovers remains whoever is the manager or the owner.

My limited brain power was no doubt taken up with trying to understand the 'Ben Garner way'.

Not fit to referee is a under statement.

I'm amazed that any of them saw the game, writing rubbish like that, they are obviously judging on the amount of, non-deserved, free kicks that the inept referee gave them.

We certainly play with passion and are no longer a pushover as we have been in previous times but we are not a dirty team. Outrageous nonsense.
