1 0 down.Poor goal to concede apparently. Evans lost his man from a corner, free header.

Sounds like a good effort by Rovers.
Just one more 3rd tier game left, before the transfer window closes.
Hopefully those transfer targets will be signed.

To be fair, you've such a negative view of the manager, that you'd probably whine if he talked about football as if it was a game of vegan chess. And rightly so. He’s a moron and now one of their players is stretchered off, probably to hospital. Whelan should have got a red card. In your highly qualified opinion, please elucidate as to why Mr Barton is a "moron".

From what I saw the player put his leg across Whelan in an attempt to obstruct him. No attempt by him to play the ball. Unfortunate the effect. Not really a foul. In much the same way as Collins put his leg out for the pen. Though he got a push as well.
Itabout time referee's learnt when players are trying to buy free kicks. Couple of times their attackers just jumped in front of a defender about to head the ball. Ref awards a free kick to the attacking side when really should be other way.

Agree with Barton’s views on the Cowleys trying to get whelan red carded. They’re no more qualified to have a view on what is and isn’t a bad tackle than any other PE teacher. I don’t rate them, they won’t take Portsmouth up

Cowley: "Glenn Whelan is an excellent professional and I don't think for one minute he meant to do it". Fair play and hopefully Thompson is back as soon as possible.

Just seen the highlights. Never a pen. The ref played to the play acting and the crowd. Much like the Cowleys he’s never played the game and can’t recognise contact in a fast paced sport from a foul

A very reckless tackle from Whelan who should know better) set the initial tone for the match ,and with both sets of players clearly unsettled by the incidence, it put the ‘ dampeners on the game for awhile..
Absolutely no one, players (or fans) want to see a professional player in such distress and looking at possible career ending injury.
Next was to concede another a very soft goal, the second very soft goal in four days it’s really not acceptable.
Nevertheless we do have do have a great bunch of players, along with a very talented manager in JB (who is not a moron) who ooze spirit, talent and commitment and we deservedly got a goal back to make it 1 - 1 and for me I fully expected the. gas to go on to win the match.l
Then it was the turn of the a real Moron the most one sided, biased immoral official who has more spin that the ‘four tops’
i can only hope, assuming that he wasn’t just doing someone a favour, that he had a bet on the result, that he chokes when spending his winnings as they sure is no skill in predicting when you know which team is going to win.
What’s needed is a real ‘whistle blower’ who can root out the cheats ,crooks and bellends.
Ahhhhhhhhh in case it’s not obvious iam so angry!

Just got back and haven’t read the thread but FWIW: We were better in the second half and our first half was better tha Barnsley so we are improving. I understand why Harry A was rested but he was missed and our full backs provided little threat attacking wise though they did alright defensively. Playing Coutts, Whelan, Rossiter and Finley meant that we were more solid and kept Pompey at a distance but Evans has still to click. Collin sure was good in the second half and stretched Pompey defenders all the time. Marquis never stopped running but apart from the assist nothing stuck to him and our midfield was always under pressure. Connolly played well but I thought Gibson, although he did nothing wrong he was caught in possession a lot of the time and was out-muscled by some of their players. I hope he will learn. I think you have to give credit to Pompey, they played well, were always looking to attack and deserved the win.
I don’t know what’s been said about our pen that wasn’t given but I was sat in the front row of the North Stand (the side where Collins was brought down) and sat level with the 18 yard line. I think I was probably as close as anyone was to that incident. It was a clear penalty. Collins has beaten the defender and he just took his leg. A clear penalty and the referee should have given it although I can’t remember where he was, behind or unsighted. Had the Lino been on my side I’m sure he would have flagged for it. Hard to take esp as they then go up the other end and get a pen. I’ll look forward to hearing JBs post match views, I can guess already what he’ll say!!
Plus points were that we really competed and Pompey knew they were in a match, the team were really up for it. Finley again the MOM for me but blimey he does play on the edge and I was worried he was talking himself into a red when our pen wasn’t given. A much better performance after Barnsley and we were really in with a chance I thought until their pen. Connolly played well. But I’m not sure we’re getting a fair crack from referees and I’m afraid their dislike of JB is colouring their decisions against us. We got few, if any, 50/50 decisions and being so close to the pen I was amazed that such a vital decision went against us. He wasn’t poor as a ref but he got an important decision wrong.
