Manchester United: Glazer family owners consider selling Premier League club..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1860E/production/_127745899_gettyimages-1438632550.jpgManchester United's owners the Glazer family say they are considering selling the club as they "explore strategic alternatives". The Americans bought the Old Trafford outfit for £790m ($1.34bn) in 2005. It comes after years of protest from fans against their ownership. A statement from the club said the board will "consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the company". It added that the process "will include an assessment of several initiatives to strengthen the club, including stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of the club's commercial operations on a global scale" to enhance "the long-term success of the club's men's, women's and academy teams, and bringing benefits to fans and other stakeholders". In 2012, the Glazers sold 10% of their holding via a stock listing and have sold further shares in the following years. "As we seek to continue building on the club's history of success, the board has authorised a thorough evaluation of strategic alternatives," said executive co-chairmen and directors Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer. "We will evaluate all options to ensure that we best serve our fans and that Manchester United maximizes the significant growth opportunities available to the club today and in the future. "Throughout this process we will remain fully focused on serving the best interests of our fans, shareholders, and various stakeholders." American investment firm Raine Group, who handled Chelsea's £4.25bn sale in May, is acting as United's exclusive financial advisor. The statement from the club added: "There can be no assurance that the review being undertaken will result in any transaction involving the company. "Manchester United does not intend to make further announcements regarding the review unless and until the board has approved a specific transaction or other course of action requiring a formal announcement." United, who are fifth in the Premier League, have not won the title since 2013 and have not won a trophy since claiming the Europa League and EFL Cup in 2017. There have been multiple protests against the Glazers' ownership in recent years, including one in May 2021 which caused United's home league match against Liverpool to be postponed. Thousands of supporters marched to Old Trafford in protest before the same fixture this season, in August. United were part of the failed European Super League project which rapidly collapsed in April 2021. Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer later apologised for the unrest caused. He has since attended Fans' Forums in the wake of the supporter unrest and pledged to make shares available to fans. Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Manchester United with immediate effect on Tuesday, criticised the club ownership in a controversial interview last week saying the Glazer family, "don't care about the club" on the sporting side. The move to sell United comes amid Liverpool chairman Tom Werner saying Fenway Sports Group were "exploring a sale" of the Anfield club. A Bloomberg report in August 2022 said that the Glazer family were willing to sell a minority stake in the club. British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe said he would be interested in buying the club before he stated in October that the Glazer family had told him they did not want to sell.

Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo is torn between moving to Newcastle United or Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr following the 37-year-old's exit from Manchester United by mutual consent. (Marca - in Spanish)
Manchester United have saved about £15.5m in wages after coming to a mutual agreement with Ronaldo to end his contract before it runs out in the summer.
Chelsea are set to open talks over Ronaldo as co-owner Todd Boehly sees the appeal of signing the Portuguese on a free transfer, although manager Graham Potter is less convinced.
Chelsea and Newcastle are thought to have distanced themselves from moves for Ronaldo, while Inter Miami are understood to be looking elsewhere.
Ronaldo's goals during his second spell at Manchester United have cost the club £1.2m each.

Manchester United put up for sale by Glazers: What happens now?..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/166ED/production/_127758819_glazer.jpgExecutive co-chairmen and directors Avram Glazer (left) and Joel Glazer (right) are considering selling Manchester UnitedManchester United's owners sent shockwaves round the globe on Tuesday night when they announced they were "exploring strategic opportunities" for the club, which could include selling it. For the fans, who have demanded the Glazers leave from the moment they arrived in 2005 thanks to a leveraged buyout that still sees United saddled with a £514.9m debt - and point to over £600m going out of the club on interest and dividend payments - it is what they have been waiting nearly 20 years for. Yet there is no certainty over what happens next. United have spent big on transfers and wages but it has got them no closer to challenging for major honours, something they have failed to do since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. Manager Erik ten Hag says Manchester United will exercise an option to extend the deals of Rashford and 23-year-old Portugal right-back Diogo Dalot until 2024. Benfica president Rui Costa says they will not allow any key players - including 21-year-old Portugal striker Goncalo Ramos, who has been linked with Manchester United - to leave unless their buyout clauses are met. Newcastle are hoping to sign 24-year-old United States forward Christian Pulisic, while Arsenal and Manchester United are also monitoring the situation.

Marcus Rashford: Manchester United striker compared to Kylian Mbappe by Erik ten Hagichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/991C/production/_127969193_rashfordbody2_getty.jpgMarcus Rashford has four goals and two assists in 14 Premier League appearances this season
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/13548/production/_127967197_mbappe_rashford_getty.jpg
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he sees similarities between striker Marcus Rashford and France superstar Kylian Mbappe. Rashford was England's top scorer at the World Cup in a campaign ended by defeat against Mbappe's France. Ten Hag said: "From the first moment I recognised huge potential. "When Marcus' positioning is on the back of the defending line, there is almost no better player in the world. There is [only] Mbappe in this moment." Rashford will now return to Premier League action for United, with the competition resuming on 26 December after breaking for the World Cup. Rashford struggled last season - failing to make an impact after missing the start of the campaign following shoulder surgery. He scored just four goals in 25 Premier League appearances - the first time he failed to reach double figures since 2017-18 - and lost his place in the national squad. But Rashford has repaid the faith shown in him this season by Dutch manager Ten Hag in his first season in charge of United, scoring eight goals in 19 games in all competitions. With four goals in the league, the 25-year-old has already matched his tally in 2021-22. As well as the threat he poses playing off the last line of defence, Ten Hag feels Rashford is also developing his game out of possession, including the high press, something he was criticised for during Ralf Rangnick's ill-fated spell as interim boss last season. The United manager cited Phil Foden's goal against Wales as an example of the work Rashford is putting in for England. "I see him do that all the time," said Ten Hag. "He has done a really good job there for England." The forward's current deal expires at the end of the season, as is the case with fellow senior players goalkeeper David de Gea, full-backs Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw and midfielder Fred. Ten Hag says United remain in control of the situation because "we have options" to extend those contracts for an additional season and "we will exercise those options". However, there have been repeated suggestions of a big money offer for Rashford from Paris St-Germain - the player's representatives met with the French side in August - and Ten Hag says that while he wants the forward to stay, the matter is not in his hands. "He has to make a decision," he said. "The only thing we can do is show him this is the best club to be in, which has to do with the culture of the club and also in the way we are working, in the way we play and the way we train and if we are offering the right environment to progress. "It's a financial issue as well. Then it is up to him to make the decision. But for one-and-a-half years, he will be here."

I get the feeling that every player worth over £50mil - £60mil is always 'linked' to man u. Because if the agent can make it work we all know man u pay 20-30% over the asking price. And man u have had a decade of buying poor quality for the price they pay...
