Despite everything that's happened since 2006, I agree with NB's suggestion.
It's surely undeniable that there would be no Bristol Rovers had the Dunfords not taken the club to Bath and then back to the Memorial Stadium. They did an awful lot of work for the club.

No. Can't agree. He's been a constant fixture in the club's decline and quite a lot of people don't like him, despite the sickening Twitter love-in from Monday. The position itself isn't needed and was only in place to show gratitude to one man and sadly that man is no longer here.

In forty years of watching the gas ive only spoken to gd twice, first time at wolves in 89/90, the day dennis scored, id had a couple and in my excitement jumped on the bloke in fronts back, who after i calmed down turned around smiled and shook my hand, made a big impression back then standing with the rank and file, then our lovely red friends waiting at temple meads, wish bob and the boys had been with me, happy days

When the late Denis Dunford resigned as a director of the club I proposed to the board that he should fill the clubs vacant Club President position. Now following the resignation of Geoff Dunford after nearly 30 years service to the club IMO it would be fitting that he followed in his late Fathers footsteps and filled the vacant position. Fair play NB

I wouldn't disagree. regardless of certain things we can all argue about Geoff has still put a lot of his time into the club A positive suggestion from the anti-board, message board. Let us hope that the Chairman doesn't lose this thread of e-mails!

Odd reaction by some of GasChat. I can understand the positions of people who are against as they want a clean break or maybe because of some of the bad blood GoD is perceived by some to have created in recent years, but there are few posters who seem think its part of the famous 'hidden agenda' given who proposed it.
Give me strength.
Anyway 'sack the board'.

What's very interesting is that Geoff Dunford has this morning re-tweeted Nick Rippington's excellent Bristol Post blog where the author urges Mr Higgs to bury the hatchet with supporters who have been ostracised "for questioning how the club is run."
There is no way an astute operator like Geoff would have missed or overlooked the relevant paragraphs so perhaps unity is beginning to break out?

NB seriously who do you think was behind your being banned? Is that anything to do with the original question though? Is it not possible to see the positives in someone as well as the negatives?
Looking at the whole picture there is no doubt that Geoff Dunford has had a positive influence on the Club over a very long period.
On balance this is surely a very apt and fitting title and position.

NB seriously who do you think was behind your being banned? Yes, it would be interesting if he answered the question. I heard that GD had nothing to do with NB being banned.

NB seriously who do you think was behind your being banned? I agree with the above, that's a different issue. For 20+ years of the Dunford ownership myself, my company and family were more than happy to support the club and the owners both vocally and financially. Despite what Paul Seaton thinks I can think of no other suitable candidate to fill the vacant role. What happened 8 years ago and the subsequent ban is in the hands of Nick Higgs but to be honest I have all but given up on him responding despite his promise to do so.

My letter from the club confirms that it was a "unanimous" board decision and this was confirmed by Nick when we met in January of this year. Edit: I almost forgot, Geoff also told me last year during a telephone conversation that he disagreed with how the ban was issued.

I think you are just being mischievous to suggest this now when the Club is in such a perilous position. It would be an irrelevant distraction. There is much more important things then all this nonsense. Come back and suggest it when things are going well, when are marching up the leagues and settled in a new stadium. I am sure it would be more positively viewed in more fitting circumstances.

yes would seem wholly appropriate to reward him for his splendid work (which has largely gone un noticed or he has had stick for) He and his father saved the Club in the late 1980's ...end of story

Geoff will become a Vice President of the club as his is right within the club guidelines. You might see it as nonsense but the general consensus appears to be supportive of the proposal.
