It's the Rovers way these days Mart, slaughter players when they move on. Wait until Collins comes back playing for Bolton, all those fouls the fans have been screaming for will then be seen as dives. I am generalising of course. Getting £750k for a player who didn't want to stay at the club is decent business. SDG - I saw many of them as dives! I got frustrated at times on how easily he fell over. However, that said, I wish AC well and thought his exit statement was class! One Rovers said to me during a game last season "What does Collins have to do to get a free kick?" I replied that he needs to be fouled first. As you say, class statement and his interview on Having A Gas was also class. Not as classy as Andy Tillson's though. Now there was class act and a true club legend.

The diving and goals drying up went hand in hand with AC, whenever he flew to ground I cringed, thought he/Rovers were better than that, but suppose it is part of the modern game now as all our strikers go down far to easily trying to buy free kicks, not my cuppa in truth. I would like to see straight reds brought in for so-called 'simulation' - this would soon cut it out. I think we are better than that. Off the top of my head, I can't think of another one of our players who got a reputation for diving in the same way as AC. Perhaps I'm naïve, but I like to think that the likes of Ward and Holloway would have told the player to cut it out. Aside from anything else, its entirely counterproductive - once you get a reputation for falling over at each opportunity, referees will treat you more harshly, and rightly so. AC should have grasped this fairly quickly, after he had several legitimate shouts for penalties turned down.

Agree with you, give a red card to stop the diving and then get started on red cards for the the other cheating issues that have crept into the game, 1) Oppo kicking the Ball away when free kicks are awarded 2) Deliberate Time Wasting - any form of deliberate cheating deserves a red card in my book.

After coming on as sub for Bolton Wanderers this afternoon with them losing 1 0 at home to Barnsley he set up an equaliser within a minute to secure a draw.

Yes statistically that's true, but when you see the actual assist itself, it's a sublime cross.
When the ball first leaves his foot, you would struggle to see how important a pass it would go on to be.... Which kinda sums him up, there's a genius in there somewhere.

He’s streaky in front of goal I think O2. When in form he will score for fun and look like a world beater. Out of form he looks like he couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo. Think it’s a confidence thing and that had he stayed MT would have got the best out of him. Now it is down to Evatt. Hope he succeeds as AC is a nice lad who generally gave his best whilst with us despite what Poundland Pep might say.

I remember several one on ones he missed because he took an extra shimmy or another touch to set himself. When a striker is on top of their game and brimming with confidence they know exactly what they’ll do as soon as the chance arrives and slot it away.

I just think as well as those valid points, he's a very open player and plays to his honest persona so that means he has an ego. Heart on sleeve. He just appears to love being there and wholeheartedly loves playing football.
His misses appear sometimes like he doesn't put that much effort into activities, and probably in his mind it's like an innocent naiveness to his application, instead of a hunger 'must score or my life depends on it' mindset.

AC came on in the 79th minute in the 1-2 win at Cambridge tonight, this keeps them 3rd on the same points as Derby in 2nd but with a game in hand.
He has started the games v Wycombe & Charlton, but came on as a sub v Barnsley, Northampton & Cambridge in his 5 games for Bolton...

Sub tonight, came on after just 20 minutes, but still draws a blank, as Bolton go down to a surprise defeat at Wigan....but that is an improvement on their 4-1 drubbing at Blackpool at the weekend....

The Aaron Collins Mem return everyone feared..by Daniel Hargraves.Let's start with what was the most discussed narrative before the game as everyone's fears were proven to be true as former Rovers favourite Collins marked his Mem return with a goal. However, the reception remained warm, even when he was substituted off, and that is exactly how it should have been. Although extremely frustrating that it came against the Gas, that goal could well prove to be colossal in Bolton's promotion charge and, in all honesty, that's what the Welsman left the club for. Having one League One's player of the season accolade last term, the 26-year-old was always going to move onto bigger and better things eventually regardless of a quiet first half of the campaign in front of goal and he has an excellent opportunity to be playing Championship football next season. There was always going to some boos but it was just about whether that was the majority or minority and it was very much a significant minority. Collins is a modern Gas hero for his involvement in the promotion season and his performances last term and, despite getting one over his former side on Saturday, the vast majority of Gasheads will surely be delighted to see their former player in the second tier next term should he get there. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9210395.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_GettyImages-2143487900.jpg Aaron Collins scored for Bolton against his former side Bristol Rovers on Saturday

Before the Bolton match - Matt Taylor talked about Aaron Collins...Inevitably the narrative will be about Aaron Collins returning to the Mem on Saturday. He scored a hat trick on Monday. You worked with him briefly. From your point of view, how much of your focus is on Aaron Collins and how much is on Bolton as a general team? Well he’s part of a very strong attacking group right through the team but obviously in terms of the form he’s hit recently and the performances that he’s been involved in, the goals they scored last weekend and him himself. First of all, it’s great to see him doing well and we really hope that he goes on to be…the reason why he left this club was to go on and challenge at the top end of this league and get out of this league and play Championship football. So I really hope he does well in relation to that but obviously in terms of returning to your former club, it’s always a question which gets asked and it will be answered on the weekend in terms of the way that he plays and we play. But it won’t be about Aaron Collins. It will be about two teams going at it, one with aspirations still to get in that top two if not through the playoff route, and they’ve got a really good chance in relation to that, and one where we want to put down a marker in terms of what we want the game to look like at home. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9206468.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_3544511-1.jpg

'Collins is a modern Gas hero'
Except he isn't. Marcus Stewart is a gas hero, and so are Ian Holloway, Stuart Sinclair and 'Jock' Alexander. Collins was, if anything, underwhelming for most of his time with us, with a purple patch between the end of the D3 promotion season and the first half of the following season. His performances on either side were distinctly underwhelming.
Given his obvious talent, Collins needs to ask himself why he hasn't played above this league, despite reaching the ripe old age of 26-years-of-age. I would suggest that attitude and application are both ongoing issues for him.
If Collins does make it to the championship, I predict he will be found out, just as JCH was.

There weren't many signs of an upturn in his performances towards the end of his time here. 'Streaky' suggests a upturn, which there wasn't really after his drop-off in performances. Not one to defend 'Poundland Pep', but I think he was entirely justified in publicly calling out Collins for the drop-off in performances at the beginning of 2023. If you look at his career, I would suggest that there is an attitude or mentality problem there. Before Bolton, we were the biggest club he had played for, which is pretty damning for a player with his obvious ability.

Aaron Collins and Cameron Jerome keep Bolton automatic promotion hopes alive..by PA sport staff.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1203F/production/_132519737_gettyimages-1669842057.jpgAaron Collins and substitute Cameron Jerome kept Bolton’s hopes of automatic promotion alive with second-half goals in a 2-0 win that sealed Port Vale’s relegation from Skybet League One. Ian Evatt’s side missed a succession of chances and hit the woodwork three times before Collins broke the deadlock after 72 minutes. A rising right foot shot brought Collins’ sixth goal in five games and his eighth since joining the Trotters in January. Veteran Jerome added a second in stoppage time. Bolton must beat play-off rivals Peterborough on the final day of the season and hope Derby slip up against relegated Carlisle, with a favourable goal swing, to stand a chance of going up. In contrast, Vale will return to the fourth tier, two years after gaining promotion. Darren Moore’s side won only 10 of their 45 games, achieving five of those victories in the first six weeks of the season. For manager Moore, Vale’s demotion comes just over a year since he guided Sheffield Wednesday into the Championship with a play-off final success against Barnsley.
