Chris Kaba: Met Police shooting case referred to CPS..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/240/cpsprodpb/1714A/production/_126683549_59766014-1a38-4f42-b9e2-f425c8a9aaa6.jpgThe police watchdog has referred the case of an unarmed black man shot dead by an officer to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Chris Kaba, 24, was shot by a Met Police officer through the windscreen of a car in Streatham Hill, south London, on 5 September last year. The family have welcomed the decision but want the officer who fired the gun to face criminal charges. The Met Police marksman who fired the fatal shot was suspended. In a joint statement, they said: "Our family, alongside the community who have supported us over the past seven months, have been consistent in our call for accountability. "This step forward is necessary and welcome. We urge the CPS to do their bit and provide their advice to the IOPC urgently." The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) director Amanda Rowe said the referral does not necessarily mean that criminal charges would follow. She added: "During the investigation, the officer was advised they were under criminal investigation for murder and following the conclusion of our investigation we have referred a file of evidence to the CPS to determine whether to charge the office "It is now for the CPS to decide, applying the tests in the Code for Crown Prosecutors, whether or not to prosecute the officer."

Cambridgeshire: Arrests after men shot dead in 'targeted' attacks..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/240/cpsprodpb/176ED/production/_129218959_e1a3fa8a14cdc394cedf7c4d40694b0c575381b6.jpgThree people have been arrested after two men were shot dead in what police say were "targeted" attacks in villages in Cambridgeshire. Police found the body of a 32-year-old man after gunshots were heard in Meridian Close, Bluntisham, just after 21:00 BST on Wednesday. About 40 minutes later officers called to reports of shots in nearby Sutton found the body of a 57-year-old man. Three people are being held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. A 27-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were detained at a hotel just outside Cambridge in the early hours of Thursday, while a 66-year-old man was arrested in the Worcester area. A white Peugeot 208, believed to have been used by the offender, and a shotgun have been recovered, Cambridgeshire Police said. The force asked for anyone who saw the Peugeot in the area on Wednesday night, or anyone acting suspiciously around it, to come forward. The homes in Meridian Close and The Row, in Sutton - about six-and-a-half miles away from each other - have been cordoned off and there will be an increased police presence in the area. Residents told the BBC Meridian Close is a "very quiet" street and not the sort of area they would expect something like this to happen. One said it was a major operation, with a police helicopter hovering overhead and they were told on social media to stay indoors. Ch Supt John Hutchinson told the BBC it was an isolated incident and believed the two people who died were "closely related". "We do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public in Cambridgeshire," he said. "We think this was targeted at the two individuals. We do have a huge policing response already on the ground and we are making significant progress."

Thomas Cashman guilty of Olivia Pratt-Korbel shooting murder..i2-prod.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/incoming/article26595659.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/1_Thomas-Cashman-edit.jpgCashman, a father of two, claimed he was being 'stitched up'A man has been found guilty of murdering nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel, who was shot dead in her Liverpool home. Thomas Cashman had denied being the gunman who shot Olivia and injured her mother Cheryl Korbel, 46, after chasing a man into their home on 22 August. The 34-year-old has also been found guilty of wounding Ms Korbel, the attempted murder of Joseph Nee and possession of firearms. He will be sentenced on Monday. Ms Korbel, wearing a pink cardigan and holding a teddy bear, sat with her children Chloe and Ryan in the court. There were gasps and tears from Olivia's family as the verdicts were returned. During the trial at Manchester Crown Court, which lasted more than three weeks, the jury heard the schoolgirl ran downstairs after hearing shots outside, saying "I'm scared mummy, I'm scared". The bullet which killed Olivia was fired through the front door, hitting Ms Korbel in the hand before striking the schoolgirl in the chest. Nee, a 36-year-old with a number of previous convictions, was the intended target of the attack, the trial heard. He was injured before he ran towards the house after three shots were fired from a self-loading pistol in the street on Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/490/cpsprodpb/1329D/production/_126639487_402b195f-3ec8-4fb5-8613-be0e26af73e5.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/news/490/cpsprodpb/F836/production/_129224536_0d1eeb3093fa8665f8e44257c061927d76a1cee00_0_3392_22641000x667.jpg

Some Police in the USA strongly recommend people buy their own guns. There's one Cop leader in Florida goes public, tells burglars etc ,that he's told the public to shoot to kill such criminals,'shoot them alot'! He says if you are a crook you can expect to be 'shot at and shot at alot'. 'Don't just pull the trigger once, keep at it, get em'. Absolutely no messing about. Eg. On YT. Thomas Cashman: 'Brave' ex-partner helped convict Olivia's killer..
"Ruthless killer" Thomas Cashman was convicted of murdering nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel in large part because of his "petrified" former partner's "incredible bravery" in coming forward, police said.
The 34-year-old fatally shot Olivia and injured her mother Cheryl Korbel at their Liverpool home during a botched "execution" of a convicted drug dealer following a chase on 22 August.
Cashman was widely feared in the Dovecot area of the city, where he made up to £5,000 per week as a "high level" cannabis dealer, using intimidation and violence to ensure payment.
Fear of reprisals meant police and prosecutors were concerned they would struggle to ever bring Olivia's masked killer to justice.
But the crucial breakthrough came when a woman, who Cashman went to on the night of the murder, approached police two days later.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had previously had a brief relationship with the killer.
She told detectives she was "petrified" of Cashman, but "this is a nine-year-old child - I want her family to get justice".
The key witness said she was still "terrified" of him as she was giving evidence at his Manchester Crown Court trial.
"When there's a little girl involved, there's no form of grassing in my world," she told the jury.
The man who led the murder hunt, Det Supt Mark Baker of Merseyside Police, said her decision to come forward "was a really important moment in the investigation".
Senior prosecutor Maria Corr said Cashman had used two guns while shooting at his intended target Joseph Nee.
"In the community, people [were] afraid of coming forward - because would their child be next?," she said.
"The privacy and safety of your own home - this ruthless killer didn't care. He shot a little nine-year-old child."

Thomas Cashman: Olivia Pratt-Korbel's killer jailed for life..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/490/cpsprodpb/102B2/production/_129262266_6091820e5b8dd0b333182ad5e35409f2e820c2ca.jpgThe man who murdered nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel has been jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 42 years in prison. Thomas Cashman, 34, refused to go into the dock for the sentencing and none of his family were present in court. He fatally shot Olivia and injured her mother Cheryl Korbel as he chased a fellow drug dealer into their Liverpool home on the evening of 22 August 2022. The judge said his failure to appear was "disrespectful" to Olivia's family. John Cooper KC, defending, said Cashman had not attended the hearing as he claimed the Crown Prosecution Service were singing "we are the champions" following his conviction. He said Cashman was concerned proceedings were "turning into a circus". Sentencing him in absentia at Manchester Crown Court, Mrs Justice Amanda Yip said drug dealer Cashman was "not of previous good character", had made it clear he was a criminal and had "demonstrated no remorse". "His failure to come into court is further evidence of that," she said. She said Cashman "relentlessly pursued" Joseph Nee into Olivia's home, where the schoolgirl had left her bed after hearing the commotion. "She came downstairs to seek the comfort of her mother," she said. "Her last words were 'Mum, I'm scared'. "In a terrible twist of fate, she had stepped directly into the line of fire." The judge said she had considered handing down a whole-life order, meaning Cashman would never be released from prison, but had decided it was not merited because the planning and premeditation in his attack was not directed at Olivia. She also praised the bravery of a woman who gave evidence against Cashman, who was granted lifetime anonymity. Earlier in the hearing, Ms Korbel was in tears as she clutched a teddy bear made from her daughter's pyjamas while giving her victim impact statement in the witness box. "I cannot get my head around how Cashman continued to shoot after hearing the terrified screams and utter devastation he had caused," she said. "He doesn't care. "His actions have left the biggest hole in our lives." Ms Korbel told the court life was "so very quiet" without her daughter, adding: "I just can't cope with the silence." She said she spent every afternoon thinking about the end of the school day and her "sassy, chatty girl who everyone adored" adding: "My mind keeps telling me that I've forgotten to pick her up from school." She added that Olivia's grandmother had died on Sunday night, but had thankfully "lived long enough to see that coward found guilty". Olivia's father John Pratt told the court he was "heartbroken" and had "nightmares about how she died [that] won't go away". Speaking directly to the absent Cashman, he said: "You have denied my beautiful girl Olivia her future. "I will never see her on her wedding day, and walk her down the aisle... and see her grow into the beautiful woman she was destined to become. "We have been robbed of her future. Because of you, she will be forever nine." Cashman, who told the court he made up to £5,000 every week from dealing cannabis in Liverpool, was found guilty of murdering Olivia after a trial which lasted more than three weeks. The jury heard 36-year-old Nee was the intended target of the attack and Cashman, armed with two guns, has been "lying in wait" for his fellow drug dealer. Nee had run towards the open door of Olivia's home after her mother went out to see what the noise was, the court heard. However, when she realised it was gunshots, she ran back into her house and tried to close the door to keep the strangers out, but Cashman shot again. The bullet went through the door and Ms Korbel's hand, before hitting Olivia in the chest. Cashman, a father-of-two, denied being the gunman and had claimed he was at a friend's house counting £10,000 in cash and smoking cannabis at the time of the attack.

Virginia teacher shot by six-year-old files $40m lawsuit..By Chloe Kimichef.bbci.co.uk/news/240/cpsprodpb/92AA/production/_129264573_abbyzwerner.pngA Virginia school teacher who was shot by her six-year-old student has filed a $40m (£32m) lawsuit against school officials, alleging gross negligence for ignoring warning signs. The lawsuit, filed on Monday, argues the defendants knew the child "had a history of random violence". Abigail "Abby" Zwerner, 25, was shot on 6 January in the hand and upper chest and spent two weeks in hospital. The school teacher has undergone surgery four times. The boy brought the pistol in his backpack to Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, a city of about 180,000 residents north-west of Virginia Beach. After being shot by the unidentified boy, Ms Zwerner got her other students to safety before calling for help for herself. "She is a trooper, she is a hero," police chief Steve Drew said after the incident. According to investigators, the child took his mother's firearm, which was purchased legally. The board has since voted to install metal detectors at Richneck, which has 550 pupils, and every other school in the district. The superintendent was fired by the school board and the assistant principal resigned, but the boy has not been charged, nor has anyone else. The lawsuit claims the same boy "strangled and choked" his kindergarten teacher last year. It also alleges the boy would chase other students with a belt to whip them and swear at staff. According to the complaint, two days before opening fire on Ms Zwerner as she sat at a reading table in class, the boy had taken the teacher's mobile phone and smashed it on the ground. For this, he had received a one-day suspension. His family says the boy has an "acute disability" and rarely attended school without one of his parents being present. The lawsuit reads: "All Defendants knew that John Doe attacked students and teachers alike, and his motivation to injure was directed toward anyone in his path, both in and out of school, and was not limited to teachers while at the school." Ms Zwerner is seeking compensatory damages for permanent bodily injuries, physical pain, mental anguish, lost earnings and other damages, the lawsuit says. "I thought I had died," Ms Zwerner told NBC's Today show in March. The Newport News school board did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.

Connor Chapman pleaded not guilty today at Liverpool crown court (by video) this is the shooting on Christmas eve when Elle Edwards was killed,he is also charged with 2 cases of attempted murder,3 cases of gbh and possesion of a weapon and ammunition.
Anyone who is reckless enough to fire a Skorpion machine pistol (or any automatic weapon) into a crowd should be looking at a very heavy sentence, perhaps more than the 42 years given out this week.....trial is in June.

Breaking: Louisville, Kentucky shooting sees multiple casualties, police say..ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/BBFA/production/_129322184_28d8ec42300073f6db5714accdb03b2a7facd4d2.jpgPolice in Louisville, Kentucky, have confirmed "multiple casualties" after a shooting in the city. The Louisville Metro Police Department said on Twitter it was responding to an "active aggressor". Members of the public have been asked to stay away from a part of East Main. Video from the area appears to show heavily armed police cordoning off a commercial property in the area. Police are expected to hold a news conference shortly. News footage from the scene shows a heavy police presence, with damaged glass and discarded medical equipment at one location. The incident happened in Louisville's downtown area, close to the Louisville Slugger Field baseball stadium and several blocks from the Kentucky International Convention Centre and Muhammad Ali Centre. Summary
Five people have been killed and at least six wounded in a shooting at a bank in the US city of Louisville, Kentucky, police confirm. They say the suspected shooter has been "neutralised" and was confirmed dead on the scene. Witnesses told US media the gunman opened fire in the bank's conference room. Members of the public have been asked to stay away from the 300 block area of East Main. FBI agents were sent to the scene and are helping local police, the bureau said.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/B1D2/production/_129322554_shooting_reu.jpgLouisville Mayor Craig Greenberg has shared the latest police updates about the shooting, which he said was "tragic". The police, who have been joined by FBI agents, confirmed the shooting happened at the Old National Bank in Kentucky's largest city. There is no update yet on the six injured people, who have been taken to the University of Louisville hospital. Eight people are currently being treated, including a police officer, police told a news conference in Louisville. Dept Chief Humphrey says the heroic response of officers made sure no more people were seriously injured. "We believe this is a lone gunman involved in this that did have a connection to the bank... It appears he was a previous employee," deputy police chief Paul Humphrey says. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/4/10/7c8fa183-b9ce-4eb4-a1b3-f2b18b486db3.jpgGovernor Beshear is also speaking at the news briefing. He thanks the officers who made it to the scene "in a matter of minutes". One officer is in surgery "because he took action to protect the people of Louisville," Beshear says. "This is awful. I have a very close friend who didn't make it today," he says, his voice breaking. "We've got to wrap our arms around these families," the governor says. "Our bodies and our minds are not meant to go through these types of tragedies," he says. He encourages "people who are hurting today" to "get the help they need" with "love and compassion". "I do believe this is a safe community," he says. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/4/10/792b6d60-32e1-4cdf-b542-4589e0972ca9.pngichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/4/10/baa02ab6-21c4-48db-8f23-a9ab5a439359.pngMore mass shootings so far, than days of the year There have been more than 140 mass shootings in the United States so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a "mass shooting" as one in which at least four victims are shot, injured or killed. Today, 10 April, is the 100th day of the year, meaning there's been more mass shootings in America than days in the year. A grim distinction for a country that's extremely divided over how to deal with the scourge of gun violence.

Atiq Ahmed: Former Indian politician and brother shot dead live on TV..Reported By Mattea Bubaloresize.indiatvnews.com/en/resize/newbucket/730_-/2023/04/gsdgs-1681586964.jpgGangster Atiq Ahmed's last words before being shot dead A former Indian politician convicted of kidnapping has been shot dead live on TV along with his brother. Atiq Ahmed, who was under police escort, was talking to reporters when a gun was pulled close to his head in Prayagraj, also known as Allahabad. After the shots were fired on Saturday night, three man who had been posing as journalists quickly surrendered and were taken into custody. Ahmed's teenage son was shot dead by police days earlier. Ahmed had previously claimed there was a threat to his own life from the police. Video showed Ahmed and his brother, Ashraf, both in handcuffs, speaking to journalists on the way to a medical check-up at a hospital seconds before they were both shot. In the footage, shared widely on social media and TV channels, Ahmed is asked whether he attended his son's funeral. His last words to camera are: "They did not take us, so we did not go." The three suspected assailants had arrived at the site on motorcycles, the police said. A policeman and a journalist were also injured at the scene. Following Saturday night's incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a judicial probe into the killings and banned large gatherings in the districts of Uttar Pradesh. Ahmed, who is a former MP, and his brother were in police custody and had been brought to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, where Ahmed was facing murder and assault charges. They had both been arrested in April in connection with the February murder of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder of Raju Pal, a lawmaker belonging to the regional Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Ahmed was jailed in 2019 after he was convicted of kidnapping. Atiq Ahmed's teenage son Asad and another man, wanted in connection with a murder case, were killed by police earlier this week in what was described as a shoot-out. Last month India's Supreme Court declined to hear Ahmed's petition in which he alleged there was a threat to his life from the police. Uttar Pradesh is governed by the Hindu-nationalist BJP, and opposition parties criticised the killings as a security lapse. "Crime has reached its peak in UP and the morale of the criminals is high," Akhilesh Yadav, chief the opposition Samajwadi Party, tweeted in Hindi. "When someone can be killed in firing openly amidst the security cordon of the police, then what about the safety of the general public. Due to this, an atmosphere of fear is being created among the public, it seems that some people are deliberately creating such an atmosphere," he added. More than 180 people facing various charges have been killed by police in the state in the past six years. Rights activists accuse the police of carrying out extra judicial killings, which the state's government denies.

As Lostinspace reported on the previous page - Alabama shooting: Four dead at Dadeville 16th birthday party..
At least four people have been killed in a mass shooting in the US state of Alabama on Saturday.
Several people were injured following the incident at a 16th birthday party in the town of Dadeville, local media is reporting.
The shooting happened at the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio at around 22:30 (03:30 GMT) on Saturday.
"This morning, I grieve with the people of Dadeville and my fellow Alabamians," state governor Kay Ivey said.
"Violent crime has no place in our state, and we are staying closely updated by law enforcement as details emerge," the governor added in a statement on Twitter.
The governor is a strong supporter of second amendment rights - the right to keep and bear arms - and last year signed legislation abolishing the requirement in Alabama to get a permit to carry a concealed handgun in public.
Her candidacy for last year's governor election was endorsed by the National Rifle Association.
Pastor Ben Hayes, who serves as the chaplain for the Dadeville Police Department and for the local high school football team, said most of the victims were teenagers.
"One of the young men that was killed was one of our star athletes and just a great guy," he said.
"I knew many of these students. Dadeville is a small town and this is going to affect everybody in this area."
A community vigil is being organised for the victims of Saturday's shooting.
There has been no confirmation about what led to the incident, or whether any suspects have been taken into custody.
The Alabama incident follows a shooting on the same day at a park in Louisville, Kentucky, which killed two people and injured four others.
With a population of about 3,200 people, Dadeville is a small, rural town located in Tallapoosa County in the east of Alabama.
There have been more than 140 mass shootings in the US so far this year.
