Very sad news from the USA, 19 under 10 schoolchildren, 1 teacher and the gunman's grandmother have been shot dead by 18yr old Salvador Ramos.
At least Ramos was shot dead by a Border Control Official, others were shot and are in a critical condition at a San Antonio hospital.
President Biden said "Why do we keep letting this happen?" Why are we willing to live with this carnage?"
He also said he was "sick and tired" of responding to mass shootings, as he called for gun control.
"How many scores of little children who witnessed what happened - see their friends die, as if they're in a battlefield, for God's sake," he said. "They'll live with it the rest of their lives."

NRA is America's big problem, they fund political persuasion no end, Republicans tend to be the biggest supporter of this organisation, until this country get's out of their "wild west" attitude ,"i have the right to defend myself" this scenario will happen over and over and pathetic people like the latest assailant will continue to wreak untold misery on families across the nation, when you can virtually walk into a gun store off the street and buy a weapon ,because you can!!! there is the problem, no control over gun ownership

In Texas you have to be 18 years old to buy a rifle. In Texas you have to be 21 years old to order a beer.
Not often I agree with Piers Morgan, but after the Sandy Hook massacre (and the USA did nothing about gun control) - he said that was the end of the debate.

I have been told that this mad person was engaged by armed security/police outside the school. He got away, he was wearing body armour. Body armour, I cannot think of any circumstances whereby a member of the public would require body armour. I have 5 grandchildren in the States, 2 pre school, 1 high school and 2 at University. I am very apprehensive. |

Do you think an image of perpetrator adds anything to the discussion? Though I am with you on this Oldie, that face has been across the globe as soon as it was available.. IMO non of these perpetrators should even have their name emblazoned across the media let alone their face, some have ..so called..did it for their " five minutes of Fame" before they leave this planet, they came into the world unknown and should leave the same way.... My sympathy goes toward all those lost in such a horrific way and their families and friends 💔💔 |

I see Senator Greg Abbott has said it's a 'mental illness' problem Now, that may well be true, but surely Senator Abbott can see the problem with the law that he signed, in his state that allows that 'mentally ill' person to buy a gun no questions asked |

It's been suggested his killers were able to find his address after he accidentally revealed it in a social media post. He has since collaborated with artists such as Ed Sheeran, and released his most recent song, Luv Me Again, just two days before the shooting.

Not a shooting in Texas, but this is as good a place to put this and i understand why sometimes this action is looked upon as justice.
Iowa teen who killed alleged rapist sentenced and fined.
A US teenager who stabbed her alleged rapist to death has been sentenced by an Iowa court to five years' probation.
Pieper Lewis, 17, was also ordered to pay $150,000 (£130,350) to Zachary Brooks' family over his murder in 2020 in Des Moines. She was 15 at the time.
Last year, she pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and wilful injury. Both charges are punishable by up to 10 years in jail.
She could be jailed for 20 years if she violates her probation terms.
Lewis was sentenced on Tuesday by Polk County District judge David M Porter.
Under the terms of her probation, the judge ordered her to be placed in a residential facility, where she must wear a tracking device.
"The next five years of your life will be full of rules you disagree with, I'm sure of it," Mr Porter said. "This is the second chance that you've asked for. You don't get a third."
While he alluded to the controversial nature of Lewis being forced to make payments to Mr Brooks' family, he noted that "this court is presented with no other option" under Iowa law.
"My spirit has been burned, but still glows through the flames. Hear me roar, see me glow, and watch me grow," Lewis read on Tuesday from a statement she had prepared, the Associated Press news agency reports.
"I am a survivor," she added.
In 2020, Lewis was sleeping in a hallway after fleeing an abusive home when a man took her in and trafficked her to others for sex.
She told the court one of them was Brooks, 37, and that he had raped her many times.
The teenager stabbed him more than 30 times in June 2020 in a flat in Des Moines, the capital of the Iowa state in the Midwestern region, when she was aged just 15.
While Lewis accepted she had committed a crime, she defended her actions.
"I took a person's life," she said. "My intentions that day were not to just to go out and take somebody's life. In my mind I felt that I wasn't safe and I felt that I was in danger, which resulted in the acts. But it doesn't take away from the fact that a crime was committed."
Police and prosecutors have not disputed that Lewis was sexually assaulted and trafficked. But the prosecution had argued that Brooks was asleep at the time, and therefore not an immediate threat.
Dozens of US states have adopted so-called "safe-harbour" laws that offer victims of trafficking some level of immunity, but a bill passed by the Iowa House of Representatives has stalled in the State Senate after law enforcement groups raised concerns.

At least 34 killed in mass shooting at Thai nursery.
Summary
At least 34 people have been killed in an attack at a childcare facility in north-eastern Thailand.
More than 20 children are among the dead, with victims as young as two years old.
The attack began when a man armed with a gun and a knife stormed into the childcare facility in Nong Bua Lamphu province.
The gunman, who killed himself after the shooting, has been identified as former police officer Panya Khamrab.
He is also reported to have driven his vehicle into bystanders.
He was dismissed from the police force over drugs offences last year, police say.
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has ordered an urgent probe into the attack and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
In a message posted to Facebook, Prayuth Chan-ocha said he had ordered the police commander to "fast-track an investigation" into how the tragedy had occurred.
He also condemned the "horrifying" attack and offered his "deepest condolences to the families of the lost and injured".
Mass shootings are relatively rare in Thailand, although gun ownership is high for the region.
Global leaders have been offering their sympathies to the families of the victims of this morning's attack.
UK Prime Minister Liz Truss tweeted that she was "shocked to hear of the horrific events in Thailand this morning".
"My thoughts are with all those affected and the first responders. The UK stands with the Thai people at this terrible time," she added.
Australian leader Anthony Albanese wrote that it was "impossible to comprehend the heartbreak" and said "all Australians send their love and condolences".
