Everton sign Ndiaye from Marseille..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/3/d938cb10-12d2-4af2-9183-6f11e28fdd27.jpgSenegal international Iliman Ndiaye joins his international teammate Idrissa Gana Gueye after singing a five-year contract for Everton for an undisclosed fee, Ndiaye spent a year playing for Marseille in Ligue 1, making 46 appearances and becoming a essential component of the French team's run to the Europa League semi-finals. “I am so pleased to be an Everton player,” he told evertontv. “The main reasons I wanted to join were how big the club is, its history and the part I can play in helping the team in the forward direction it is going in. I’m so excited and can’t wait to get going. “Kevin [Thelwell] and the manager both spoke to me and made me feel wanted. My Senegal teammate Idrissa also played a part and spoke highly of the Club and a lot of good things. “As a player, I like to dribble, show skills and get the fans out their seats. I want to score goals and get assists but I also like to work hard. I love running, chasing the ball, getting the team high up the pitch. As a striker, you're the first defender. I love doing that bit. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/594/cpsprodpb/f445/live/d1786b60-3933-11ef-a9d9-4150f59da0fd.jpg

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2f7f/live/95709000-0915-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgWe asked for your views on Ashley Young signing a one-year contract extension at Everton.
Here are some of your responses:
Chris: Not so sure. He was full of errors last season. We should be looking to 25-28-year-olds who want to be part of the Everton narrative and will be in future years at our new ground. Maybe Dyche is looking for experience in our defence with Coleman injured a lot. We need to be buying youthful experience now. Spider: Ashley had a good season, bags of experience and versatility. So another season is a no-brainer. A lot of clubs would want him, so it's good business in my opinion. Tony: Too old and a liability. We should have got rid at the end of the season and kept the younger squad players. Stephen: Ashley Young is a liability, he will concede fouls and penalties costing us points. He has a wealth of experience but his time is past and extending his contract is a mistake. Instead of wasting money on him, we should spend it on a young back-up for Mykolenko.

Atalanta have made a £10m bid for Everton's Ben Godfrey, while another unnamed club has offered £15m for the 26-year-old England defender. Finally Everton are close to signing 27-year-old Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi on a free transfer when his Leicester City contract expires next week. Manchester United would make another move for Jarrad Branthwaite if Everton drop their asking price, but the Toffees are under no financial pressure to sell the 22-year-old England defender. Everton, Brentford, Brighton and Southampton are interested in Millwall's 18-year-old English midfielder Josh Stephenson.

Here is a flavour of your responses:
Mark: I asked a friend who is a lifelong Sheffield United fan and he was glowing about Ndiaye. Reckons he's the best player he's seen in a Blades shirt. That'll do for me. Ian: A good signing. Hopefully he’ll create some more chances than what we did last season and score a few himself. Can’t rely on others to get us goals! Mike: He didn’t do well in France - why have we bought him? Chris: Just what is needed. Young but experienced. We have Neal Maupay coming back from his loan spell at Brentford where he has learned where the net is again, now a good young holding midfielder and a couple of defenders wouldn't go amiss. Andy: I'm underwhelmed, to be honest. He's not shown anything really at Marseille, but hopefully Kevin Thelwell and Sean Dyche know something nobody else does and he turns into a productive and valuable player for us. Bill: Has to be considered as a plus. Adds versatility and dribbling skills to a forward line that has been lacking these qualities - no offence to Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Duncan: It's very important that we add goals to the team and with his record, we might get at least two out of him this season. Obviously most of us don't know what he's like but his record seems underwhelming. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/c5aa/live/4db5ee30-3945-11ef-9232-c937b5b5a15a.jpg

'We want to make the nation proud' - Jordan Pickford..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/44fb/live/8cb4ec90-37aa-11ef-a0e1-0951c7c90507.jpgEngland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on their dramatic extra-time win over Slovakia at Gelsenkirchen on Sunday, which has set up a quarter-final against Switzerland on Saturday: “It was about getting over the line, showing that resilience and mentality. “It's my fourth major [tournament] now and you learn a lot from the past, that is what we can take into these next few games." On getting the win: "It was a lot of relief, but emotion - you know how passionate I am. "Kyle Walker going up for that header and it killed the game off – it was a nice moment. "A lot of work to do and we want to make the nation proud. "Keep believing in us and we will give 100% for the badge all the time."

Newcastle United's move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, 27, has collapsed after the Magpies were unable to sell their own English striker Callum Wilson. Manchester United will hold a meeting on Monday which will include making a decision about whether to make another bid for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. Everton are confident they have beaten Crystal Palace to the signing of winger Jaden Philogene after striking an agreement with Hull City for the 22-year-old.

Former England goalkeeper Tom Heaton says Everton's Jordan Pickford "knows that he can deliver" for his nation..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/8786/live/8df09b40-3aa7-11ef-bfc3-b343fb6a27dd.jpgAt this Euros, the 30-year-old's 11th clean sheet moved him clear of Peter Shilton to claim the record for the most at major tournaments for the Three Lions. If the team make the final in Germany, Pickford would move to within seven caps of predecessor Joe Hart. Heaton, who is working with the squad at the tournament, told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast: "Pickford has been absolutely brilliant in an England shirt. "I've been nothing but impressed with him. He's got a really good array of distribution and he's got the long-range pass, the mid-range, the short range..., every club in the bag. "Jordan does playing out well and understands where and when to do that, picking the right time for the risk and the reward. He does it really well with both feet, which is a skill in itself. "But I think a goalkeeper's goalkeeper is someone [whose] priority is to keep the ball out of the net and I think he does that really well." Despite progressing to the quarter-final stage, Gareth Southgate's side have not hit top form so far. However, Pickford has been spared criticism and made some crucial saves in his four games. "I think it's difficult sometimes for people to understand there's a lot of spotlight on England players," added Heaton. "There's a lot of pressure to perform, but I think the biggest one is probably the goalkeeper. "Just because what you're dealing with can be difficult, difficult circumstances, and he has been first class with that. No matter what's going on around him, inside he knows that he can deliver. He has that unwavering belief."

Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is sometimes "underappreciated" for his country, believes The Mirror's chief football writer John Cross.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/fcf0/live/26aecab0-3aac-11ef-a477-af5b93844aa1.jpgEverton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is sometimes "underappreciated" for his country, believes The Mirror's chief football writer John Cross. The 30-year-old has 65 senior caps for the Three Lions and he overtook Peter Shilton as England's most-capped goalkeeper in major tournaments after appearing in his 21st game against Denmark earlier in the tournament. He also moved clear of Shilton to claim the record for most tournament clean sheets with 11. "You're defined by what happens in the tournaments. I think Jordan Pickford is definitely in the conversation [of England goalkeeping greats]," said Cross on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "When you consider what England have done under Gareth Southgate, I think it's a huge step forward and he only really championed Pickford just before the start of the 2018 World Cup. He's been his number one ever since. "He's never let us down, has he? He's been super reliable. I think Pickford gets a little bit underappreciated. I think he's a sensational reflex goalkeeper, but he's also got a great ability with the ball. Particularly his long range kicking is really impressive and I do think he needs that sort of appreciation at times." At club level, Pickford has also been a key player for Everton in their recent battles to avoid Premier League relegation. "At times it has been a difficult season or two for Everton, but I think the remarkable thing is he's got such a strong mentality whenever he turns up for England," added Cross. "I always feel that whatever's going on in clubland doesn't really matter and he still produces for for England. I really like him and I think he gives a confidence [to the side]."

Former Everton defender Conor Coady says Jordan Pickford "is mad" but "you can rely on him no matter what" to produce a performance.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/f800/live/e52b5730-3cfd-11ef-a927-e98950a15ce2.jpgCoady has played with Everton's number one at club and international level and added he is "a world-class keeper" because of his rounded performance. Pickford went the right way to deny Switzerland and Manchester City centre-back Manuel Akanji, as England netted five perfect penalties in the Euro 2024 quarter-final shootout on Saturday. "He gets a lot of criticism but he is just fantastic," said Coady on the Football Daily at the Euros podcast. "I love everything about his process because he sticks to it after doing his homework and putting it on his bottle. That is why he comes up trumps and saves penalties. "It requires research to be a top goalkeeper and penalty-saver and he does all of that. "I have been lucky enough to play in front of him and you know you can rely on him no matter what and that is a big thing for outfield players. "He can get you out of jail and I love him to bits. "His England career has been majestic and I am over the moon for him."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2f7f/live/95709000-0915-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgWe asked for the views of Everton fans on Aston Villa closing in on Amadou Onana. Is it a good deal for the Toffees? Have Villa overpaid or is the midfielder a star of the future?
Here are some of your thoughts:
John: Tatty-bye. He only shows up when he can be bothered and he goes missing in games. There is definitely a good player in there, but how much better is Adam Wharton for half the dosh? Darrel: The £50m price tag is a direct reflection of an underwhelming two years where, quite honestly, all he wanted to do was get dressed up for the shop window by playing well in certain games. Over time, I think he will be shown up as a fraud. He is a good player, but he is unreliable. Evertonians aren't daft, you can't fake application. Dixie: Onana didn't win over the supporters with some of his performances at Everton. He liked to show up for the bigger games but he still didn't perform to the potential he initially offered. Champions League? He was more Championship. It is good business for Everton but he might go on from this and turn into a really class player, just maybe. Ben: Onana has bags of potential but he is a luxury that we cannot afford right now. We need players that are ready today and £50m would buy a few of them. It's a shame because I like him, but much like Stones, Lukaku and Rooney before him, the needs of Everton are more important than holding on to a future great - unless his name is Branthwaite. Jeff: We are not in the financial position to turn this offer down. Besides that, it is good money for such an overrated player. In fact, can't we throw in Dominic Calvert-Lewin for free just to make sure this deal really takes place? Lee: We all knew one of Onana or Branthwaite had to go - I'm happier that it is Onana! We will make a small profit, if the £50m figure is right. I just hope that at least some of it is given to Sean Dyche to spend! ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/67c9/live/16dc7b40-42a5-11ef-b83f-157e38fc9c03.jpg

Everton release new home kit paying tribute to 'The Originals'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/9cfb/live/844b2f20-4410-11ef-96a8-e710c6bfc866.jpgEverton have released their 2024-25 home kit that will be worn during the final season at Goodison Park. According to the club, the shirt pays tribute to the Toffees' first official crest from 1920, with the letters EFC deconstructed within the print. The Blues said: "The traditional royal blue shirt features a round-necked, blue and white hooped collar and pays homage to 'The Originals', a term that recognises Everton's place within its own city of Liverpool and the wider game of football." Club captain Seamus Coleman said: "It is very traditional and has a modern twist. The elements of the original crest from the 1920s woven into the design are a great nod to the past. "I know how much Evertonians respect their history and that will play a major part this season as we prepare to say goodbye to Goodison, a stadium that means so much to everybody."

Full statement from Blue Heaven Holdings and Friedkin Group..ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/cc2a/live/b195a530-45bb-11ef-96a8-e710c6bfc866.jpgEverton have released a joint-statement, external from Blue Heaven Holdings and the Friedkin Group. "Following a period of exclusivity, discussions between Blue Heaven Holdings and the Friedkin Group over a potential sale of a majority stake in Everton have ended and the Friedkin Group will not be progressing with a purchase of the club. "Both Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group entered discussions in good faith to explore whether a sale could be agreed. Those discussions have concluded. The parties agree it is in both their interests for Everton to explore alternative options. "The Friedkin Group will remain a lender to the club and is proud to have played a key role in enabling the new stadium to be built, which will help ensure a bright future for both Everton and the City of Liverpool. "Blue Heaven Holdings maintains a positive relationship with the Friedkin Group and would like to thank them for the time and effort they have put into this process. "When there is further news to share, it will be provided via the club’s official communication channels."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2f7f/live/95709000-0915-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgWith the news on Friday that takeover talks with potential buyers Friedkin Group fell through, we are asked you to have your say on the situation and Everton's future.
Here are a selection of your comments:
James: It's very disappointing but with the amount of debt that Everton are accruing maybe Moshiri will have to lower his asking price. Looks like 777 were the wrong investors to get involved with in the first place. Who else would want buy the club whilst 777 are involved? Spider: It's a little bit of a concern. Until they resolve the 777 problem, will anyone want to buy our club? We must remember, however, we have an amazing new stadium next season, the best supporters in the world and manager and team that in my opinion is going in the right direction. The people's club. Jon: The nightmare continues -777 were always a risk everyone seemed to know about but Mr Moshiri. A proud history being devalued by people you can't trust to buy some groceries. Dave: The mismanagement of EFC before and especially after Farhad Moshiri had taken over is the reason our club is in such a mess. The Friedkin Group are a reputable group, so if they see as too much of a risk, who out there would do what they won't? It's a disaster and I struggle to see a permanent fix right now. Moshiri has a lot to answer for and he needs to do so. John: Terrified to be honest, who else is going to come in now knowing the inherited problems of the loan from 777? Also really worrying that we are relying on Moshiri to get us through this. Carter: The more it keeps on happening, the worse it seems and the worse we look. I fully believe that Dyche took us forward last season and without the drama and stress of our points deductions, the 48 points we earned would have been closer to, or even over 60. We don't need more things getting in our way, the job is hard enough. The future? What future? Simon: Everton fans deserve better... It's as simple as that.

Here are some of your responses:
Michael: Really don't understand the point of this as a sporting event. It was great to see Seamus Coleman coming back to his old club but that's about it. Jenson Metcalfe was probably the best player on show but under Sean Dyche we probably won't see him again all season. Very poor performance when you consider Sligo were playing their reserves! Andy: Just seeing the likes of Mason Holgate and Neal Maupay playing in the royal blue shirt again only compounded the misery for me after the takeover collapse. Another miserable season beckons, I feel. Daire: I was at the game. That first half was one of the worst halves of football I've ever seen. My Sunday league team would have played better. The second half was a lot brighter, though. I have to single out Jack Harrison, Youssef Chermiti and Ilman Ndiaye for great performances - but we should have played better. Bill: Typical pre-season. mix of youngsters and first-team squad. Lots of missed chances by Everton and Sligo took everything that fell their way. Two sets of 11s in each half that will never play a competitive game together. Sligo put up an excellent display as well. Everyone entertained. Stu: I know it’s only a friendly, but is going to be another long season, isn't it? Ho hum. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/80b9/live/7d2f9930-4689-11ef-ac12-f16ca979d7d8.jpg

Amadou Onana move one that suits all parties..by Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport football news reporterichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/67c9/live/16dc7b40-42a5-11ef-b83f-157e38fc9c03.jpgAmadou Onana's £50m move from Everton to Aston Villa has been completed and it is one that suits all parties. The 22-year-old did not fulfil his potential on Merseyside after joining from Lille in 2022, and he will have jumped at the chance of testing himself in the Champions League next season. Unai Emery has worked wonders since being appointed as Villa boss and he will be excited at the opportunity of working with a player of Onana's talent. The deep-lying midfielder represented Belgium at Euro 2024 but was not an automatic starter in his final few months under Sean Dyche at Goodison Park. Many Toffees supporters will be unperturbed by his departure, having not taken to his languid demeanour and feeling like he often went missing in games. The deal will allow Everton to reinvest the cash in other parts of the squad, with firm interest in Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom and Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/dec7/live/2b8cbe70-4a83-11ef-a3ee-091330cb5880.jpgDanish football writer Toke Theilade believes Everton target Jesper Lindstrom, who currently plays for Serie A side Napoli, will be a "very versatile" player in Sean Dyche's squad. It is rumoured that the Toffees are closing in on a loan deal for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder, who would be the club's fourth summer signing. Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside's Phil Munns, Theilade praised the Denmark international: "I think Everton are getting a really exciting player. I have been following him ever since he was a youngster at Brondby and Denmark. "He is a very versatile midfielder, but he is primarily an offensive-minded midfielder and he has a strength in that part of the game. A hard-working guy, very likeable, and the kind of player you love to see playing for your team. "He has really good technique and a lot of pace when on the ball. He isn't a super fast guy in the normal sense of the word but, when he has the ball, he just has another level. He is a very dynamic player. "I think he is definitely best when he plays centrally - that is where he played for both Brondby and Frankfurt - and he was very successful. "He can play either as a number eight or a number 10. He isn't a traditional number 10 because he is more dynamic, good at finding extra space, and he can drift to the wing or a little bit further back on the pitch. He can even be used as a second striker."
