New Zealand win by 89 runs

Devon Conway hit an unbeaten 92 as New Zealand claimed a comprehensive 89-run win over hosts Australia at the T20 World Cup.

Victory in their Super 12 opener at the Sydney Cricket Ground was the Black Caps' first over their Trans-Tasman rivals in Australia in any format since 2011.

It was also Australia's heaviest defeat in a T20 World Cup and their second largest of all time in the 20-over format.

England win by 5 wickets

England's bowlers set up a five-wicket victory over Afghanistan as Jos Buttler's side made a winning start to the T20 World Cup in Perth.

Sam Curran took 5-10 - England's first five-wicket haul in men's T20s - in a complete bowling performance, which was backed up by a phenomenal display of catching.

Curran claimed four wickets in six balls at the death after Mark Wood and Ben Stokes had taken two wickets apiece as Afghanistan were bowled out for 112 in 19.4 overs.

As notable, though, was England's fielding - a fine high catch from Adil Rashid and a leaping one-handed grab by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler the highlights.

England's batting order misfired in the chase, slipping to 97-5 against Afghanistan's spin-heavy attack, but the target was never likely to be defendable.

Liam Livingstone ended 29 not out as England, semi-finalists in the 2021 World Cup and among the favourites again, won with 11 balls remaining.

T20 World Cup: South Africa-Zimbabwe rained off in strange fashion..

A frantic Super 12s encounter between South Africa and Zimbabwe in the Men's T20 World Cup ended in bizarre fashion when the match was finally abandoned because of rain.

After persistent yet light rain in Hobart reduced the game to nine overs a side, Zimbabwe made 79-5, with Wesley Madhevere smashing an unbeaten 35 off 18 balls.

Quinton de Kock smacked 23 off the first over of the reply, before a short delay a ball later, with South Africa's target then reduced to 64 off seven overs, but heavier rain returned.

Umpires Ahsan Raza and Michael Gough allowed play to continue initially, but pace bowler Richard Ngarava slipped and injured his thigh in his follow through, with Zimbabwe opting to bowl only spin to protect their seamers.

Wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva also slipped as he moved down the leg-side, prompting spinner Sikandar Raza to say: "We may as well bowl underarm or we won't have 11 players for the next game."

With South Africa on 51-0 off three overs, spinner Sean Williams was set to bowl, but put his arm out in protest. The umpires then decided to take the players off and subsequently end the match.

South Africa had reached the total they would have needed off the minimum five overs required to constitute a game in T20 cricket.

But without the game able to be reduced by two more overs, the target was not revised further and they had to settle for a no result, with each side awarded one point.

Australia win by 7 wickets

Marcus Stoinis hit a magnificent unbeaten half-century as Australia bounced back from their opening defeat at the Men's T20 World Cup with a seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka.

Stoinis smashed 59 from 18 balls as Australia reached their target with 21 balls to spare in Perth.

Charith Asalanka earlier hit 40 from 45 balls as Sri Lanka scraped to 157-6.

The win eases the pressure on holders Australia, who went into the game bottom of Group One in the Super 12s.

I’ve seen a few of the matches and already I will be surprised if the winner is not from Australia, India, England or New Zealand. I’ve got a sneaking regard for Pakistan to possibly do well. Pakistan are so dependant on Babur and Rizwan at number 1 and 2. They do well and Pakistan do well. If they don’t they lose, so a tad vulnerable I think. Looking forward to the big matches.
I think today was the only time I’ve ever seen Marcus Stoines make runs. Always thought he was overrated. People talked about his good run rate of scoring but I never saw him score big. I always look at average and the number of runs a batsman scores so I think I’m a bit out of sync with how they rate T20 batsmen. Today it was a very good innings, very destructive and made it an easy win for Oz.

The Men's T20 World Cup match between New Zealand and Afghanistan was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The wet weather had earlier cut short Ireland's shock five-run victory over England at the same venue.

New Zealand and Afghanistan take a point apiece in Group 1.

The Black Caps, who are the only unbeaten team, lead the group on three points, with four teams on two.

Afghanistan take their first point, but remain bottom of the table.

The washout could aid England's bid to reach the semi-finals - a New Zealand win would have further narrowed their margin for error following the defeat by the Irish.

South Africa win by 104 runs

Rilee Rossouw smashed the first hundred of this year's Men's T20 World Cup as South Africa completed a statement 104-run win over Bangladesh in Sydney.

Rossouw flogged 109 from 56 balls, including eight sixes and seven fours, as South Africa posted 205-5.

He put on 163 with Quinton de Kock in a second-wicket partnership, the highest stand in the tournament's history.

Zimbabwe win by 1 run

Pakistan's World Cup hopes suffered further damage with a shock one-run defeat by Zimbabwe in Perth.

An inspired performance from the Zimbabwean bowlers ensured Pakistan finished on 129-8, chasing 131 to win.

Shan Masood looked to be steering Pakistan out of trouble before he was stumped for 44 off spinner Sikandar Raza, who took 3-25.

It was Zimbabwe's first ever win outside the first round of a men's T20 World Cup.

"It's so special, especially after the work we did to get into the Super 12s," said Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine.
