Lines always causes differing opinions, in this case especially considering his outburst on Twitter recently GC obviously had difficulties with him, in that situation we see the managers mettle. Clearly there is no place in GC’s squad for a player that upsets the harmony within it. Cardiff looked at signing him some years ago but didn’t pursue it very far.

Cobblers website Northampton Town have signed former Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers midfielder Chris Lines on a 2 year contract, starting from July 1st.
Lines began his career with Rovers, making nearly 200 appearances before playing 53 times in a two year stay at Sheffield Wednesday, helping the Owls win promotion to the Championship during his time at Hillsborough.
He then spent two years at Port Vale and made more than 70 appearances before returning to Bristol Rovers in 2015 and in the last four years he has played a further 155 times for the Gas, scoring 11 goals. He achieved three promotions across his two spells at the Memorial Stadium.
"I am delighted to bring Chris to the club," said manager Keith Curle.
"I think his attributes will really help us. He has a lot of experience and he also has a lot quality on the ball and can help to unlock defences. He is a very cultured player.
"He is a midfielder who can create chances and set things up. He also has a quality set play delivery.
"With a number of young players in the squad, we will need our share of experience for those players to look up to and Chris is ideal to fit that bill. He has won promotion four times in his career, he knows what is required and he is hungry for more success.
"Chris has a first class work ethic and attitude, I think he will prove an excellent addition and he very much fits in with the culture we will have within the squad next season."

I'm not 100% sure about that last line (really don't know), but I wish him all the best. Ta and hope you finish on a high Linesey

Harry - Am I right in thinking that Chris Lines is the only player in Rovers history to achieve this feat?

Is it possible for more than 1 thing to be true about a player anymore?
Chris Lines did an excellent job in his second stint with us and was a key player in both promotion teams. However, it's also true that he's become increasingly peripheral in the last 2 seasons and may not quite have the legs necessary to be a consistent performer at League 1 level anymore. You'd assume he was one of our better paid players so it was probably inevitable that he was going to move on whoever the manager was. Good luck to him in League 2 - he probably has one more contract in him at that level and that does seem a good signing for Northampton.
Why the need to throw the guy under the bus? And people wonder why players don't feel they owe fans any loyalty.....

'the other side of the coin is the ones who got on the bus with me in December, the ones who had my back for the last four months. They have really, really dug deep for this football club and gone above and beyond the call of duty, they need to be rewarded as well' implies that there were those who didn't, I think Players like Lines don't have to run their socks off to go beyond the call of duty. They save their energy doing what comes natural to them; setting up goals, among other things. Good for him for not being a yes man to a style of play that was foreign to him, being Rovers born and bred. and got slagged off when he went to Sheffield Wednesday. On all the boards there was a lot of bile thrown at him. His personal problems have made it so he was not available for a long time, and he wanted to get away from Bristol, hence Northampton and not Wallsall

Fans don't help themselves sometimes and neither do the players
Mr Lines latest deleted social media post for instance
Not using that to have a go out him particularly.I know he has had his fair share of abuse on social media. THese sorts of things just perpetuate attitudes

Yes - I think it just shows that there is a massive gap between fans perception of the game and players perceptions of the game and very little empathy flowing in either direction.
Fans expect a level of loyalty that is just unrealistic in a professional game with a short career shelf-life - they also expect players to understand their obsession. But I don't think a lot of players really understand the mentality of fans and why most people follow the game. Playing the game professionally and properly supporting a club really are 2 very different things and they may produce contradictory value-sets. Players often seem to think it's fans job just to provide unqualified support and see themselves as having their efforts and skills unfairly criticised all the time by people whose 2nd hand understanding of the game they can't respect. I imagine the default among players is probably to have a certain amount of contempt for fans as a group because they will all have stories of taking s**t from people who from their point of view know nothing about how the game is played in reality.
You can see occasional rows on here between people who are 'in the game' to some degree and people who are fans. You can see that big difference in perspective. It shouldn't be that surprising but there seems a total lack of understanding in both directions.

So now its Lines who got Penny the sack, thought Campbell was the ring leader, strange how things change over the years, yet not a mention of the players who got Martyn Dobson the sack some years earlier,is that because they had been successful whereas the later ones were not? Ithink you will find that certain players were made promises under Buckle and when Penny arrived he told them that wasn't going to happen and if they didn't toe the line they wouldn't play for him or the club again, motivational attitude so when he decided to select them they literally said up yours,it was a group decision and wasn't handled well by any of the parties including the chairman. It could easily have been sorted with a bit of leadership in the end it came down to an immovable force against another similar and something had to give so Penny had to go.In a way he was the architect of his own downfall and paid the price If I remember correctly, it was Campbell, Lines and Byron Anthony. It was s crazy period at Rovers. NH basically getting rid of the majority of that squad and Buckle at the helm. I think many would do well to remember how awful it was then. I think it would maybe give some perspective.

It was a collective of all the senior players at the time so to single any one of them out is unfair.Campbell was ridiculed as the ringleader but in effect he ,as captain, was the spokesman for the team
