BRFC CLUB STATEMENT The club's Head of Media Keith Brookman has left the club, after a dedicated and passionate 21 years of service. Keith originally began as a programme contributor from about 1992, producing content for every edition up until 1997, at which point he became a full-time Rovers employee under the role of programme editor. He later took on the roles of summarising on BBC Radio Bristol and becoming the club's Press Officer/Head of Media. Keith built up an esteemed reputation for producing an award-winning matchday programme, increasing the content from 48 pages to 64 and then to 84. He also worked very closely with the first team, travelling with them to all away games and acting as an unofficial player and staff liaison officer, assisting with tickets, travel and food. As a result, Keith was the main port for communications between Darrell Clarke and the press, whilst also interviewing the Manager himself countless times for the matchday programme and website. Darrell had this to say on Keith's departure from his position at the club; "Keith was an integral part of the staff at here at the club and you'd struggle to find someone with more commitment and love for Bristol Rovers. "He's been here ever since I started working at the club and he will be sorely missed by everyone at the Memorial Stadium. "He's become a personal friend of mine in the time that I've been here and it'll certainly remain that way despite his departure. "We all wish him well for the future and hope to see him back at the Mem as a fan at some point." The club would like to extend it's greatest thanks for all of Keith's hard work and effort over the years and wish him well for the future. Here’s the crux of the matter waq Hamer gorridge and all have no real emotional attachment to our club to them it’s a project or a job they don’t live the same life as your average fan I don’t know Keith Brookman but I’ll bet he’s been Gas all his life and then to actually work for them must have a been a dream come true for him and to be cast aside by some newbie brought in to maximise revenue must really hurt many old school Gas heads who kept this club alive by their sponship hospitality etc and do things behind the scenes don’t seem too impressed with this new approach and I know a couple who have not renewed boxes etc these are people who are rovers to the core and while things are going reasonably well they may not be missed but if things were to change these are the ones you’ll need not some prawn sandwich knob who doesn’t really care for our club let’s see in five years time who’s still around people like keith or waq and his gang I hope this doesn’t stop Keith coming to see his life long team and after all the good work he has done he should be made more them welcome. UTG I am not going to say everything is brilliant under The Al-Qadi’s and I have no idea how Keith was treated and will categorically state he will be a loss to the football club I will re-iterate though, that it seems that some people who want evolution or indeed revolution, only want the evolution/revolution they want If people have not renewed or are disappearing now because they are unhappy or what not, I am sure they would be back in Rovers hour of need would they not if they are blue through and through We all would like the new training ground and the new stadium. Unfortunately we cannot have that right now, but the club is clearly trying to make strides to improve its financial viability If we were taking over by even richer owners, I am sure we would see the same, if not more significant change. That are we can go back to the local fan done good ownership approach and be no better off than we were before, bumbling along like we have done for years, but that would be okay because good guys and girls and fans would be involved. That’s not a slight on hard working volunteers or guys like Keith who have given everything and more to the club, because I would never knock that, but I don’t think any of us can have our cake and eat it. It’s not some Utopian world. God forbid we ever actually achieved anything as I am sure the changes would fill some Gasheads with horror EDIT: I will add and ask that in this 'Reign of Terror' where good men and volunteers are being swept aside what are Ken Masters and The SC up to if it's that bad?

that statement reads like one of regret to me. The tribute is from DC as he's not the 'management of the club', but is fulsome in it's praise
it sounds like no-one is particularly happy about it - including TG, Wael and Hani, who may have tried to broker a compromise

A fair point, well made and this was the same argument I used about messing about with the blue and white quarters. In the end though, if this analysis is true, then when programme sales advertising revenue goes down, less shirts are bought etc they’ll still plough on thinking they are right as they do not want to lose face, but then some bean counter looking at the P&L will point things out and some kind of action is taken, but too late, the like of Keith B do not grow on trees.

I do know as a personal friend of three decades or more that Keith Brookman loved editing the matchday programme and dealing with the 25 plus contributors and took great pride in producing an award winning publication. This was taken away from him and given to someone in a print design company and was done without any consultation with him. This was disrespectful and wrong in many peoples eyes and many contributors have now decided not to continue writing for the Pirate.

You think Ken Masters is there to represent fans’ interests? Funniest thing I’ve read all year. He never once stood up for supporters in the decade he was on the board under the old regime, highly unlikely he will start now.

Oh i am under no illusion of KM and The SC, but surely if people are being pushed to the wayside and treated badly you would think they would have something to say wouldnt you of they had anything about them

Keith Brookman is not the only long serving clubman who has 'resigned/retired' in recent years because their position has been made more and more uncomfortable.

How many on here buy a match day programme? Maybe put up a survey.
How much revenue is it currently making? How much will it make?
At the end of last season was thinking, why do I buy it? It does not interest me like when I was a kid. Now days may look at opposition to see who plays, and work out who players are if can't read names, but it's all on net. Well not accessible at half time, but you know what I mean.

Haven’t bought a programme for years. Check the line up in the pub on Twitter at 2, spot in the ground no earlier than 2.50. Half time these days is mostly looking at scores around the leagues.

Keith should do a fanzine.
We used to do one called 2nd of May in 90s. Preferred it to the actual programme.

I always buy a programme. I get to the ground early to park nearby and go in the bar with a pint and read the programme from start to finish.

I presume (please note that I don't claim to know) that, as the new programme producer already prints programmes for other clubs, it will be a generic offering with more content about other clubs and less content about Rovers. Also, I read somewhere that only full-page adverts will be accepted, so more likely to be national than local?
