I feel very pleased for Mark McChrystal Have seen a fair few matches this year but not as many as most gasheads but yesterday Macca was fantastic. I know he's not everyone's favourite and perhaps he wasn't as challenged as he might have been against the better teams but as ever he never let us down. I watched him especially and it was noticeable how he was pointing, issueing orders and making sure people were marking or picking players up. On a couple of occasions we had free kicks in the densive areas and instead of rushing he deliberately slowed things down and cut out any chance of a hurried pass that could go wrong. It was leadership. I've liked Hartley, he poses a different threat. The point is whoever plays we need someone to provide leadership in defence and Macca gives that, I haven't always seen that this season. UTG! totally agree with you thought macca played and organised things well ture leader at the back not like locker who rushes and panics a lot.

MM is not going to be the sort of defender that runs around a lot or creates too much, but he is a solid playerer that has a 'no pasaran' philosophy, and leads the defence well. Could he play in the Championship? Probably not now. Could he do a good job for us between now and the end of the season? Almost certainly.
We know DC has scope to bring new players in, but will probably want to loan some out too. What he and Wael won't do is make expensive panic signings in the January window. Rovers are definitely punching above their weight in League 1 this season. I'd be happy with a solid top half finish, but as things stands we're in with more than a shout of a place in the play offs. Shrewsbury and Charlton were disappointing results, but yesterday made up for it, and I'm glad we thumped Northampton. Never liked them and I've never forgiven them for that playoff defeat in the late '90s!

First 30 minutes we did better then anyone expected. We controlled the ball without ever looking threatening and kept Charlton at bay. They made a mistake and Easter finished well. We were then totally overran as a leaky defence lacked any protection from a slow, uncompetitive midfield. We were left chasing shadows for 60 minutes and the result was utterly inevitable. We were lucky to only go down 1-4. Do I ever want to see Rovers put out a side to try and nick a 0-0? No I f******g don't. It's never worked in the 30 years I've been watching Rovers and never will do. If DC wants to try this on a regular basis - please let us know beforehand so that we don't waste time and money going to (literally) pointless games. People seem to have overlooked that defeats like this will inevitably affect the home crowds too.

You seem to have overlooked the weekend's 5-0 win, which will (or certainly should) have a bigger effect on home crowds.

However, football teams will always lose some games. Apart from City, they lose every game

Yes it's frustrating but we are kicking a lot of first division asses with what is basically a conference team a dangerous game to play I know but there seem to be no signs of implosion without Clarkes aversion to a so called rotation system I'm convinced we would be top 4 all day long.

Without Darrell Clarke I agree we'd be in the top 4, only in the Conference.

I'm not sure that I've mentally adjusted this to understand it the right way - apologies if not. Maybe his rotation system is a crucial part of the mix that allows his team to kick asses. Remember McGhee? The same favourites every game, going through the motions, and not kicking any asses. Against that, I'll go with rotation. Maybe it's not always just about getting us through to 5pm, but running a squad over a season. You might get us top 4 all day long, but probably only until about the end of September: DC aims for May.

Football teams- even very. very good ones- will lose some football matches. To my knowledge Arsenal did it relatively recently, and the only other one I know of is Preston North End- in the 19th century! Judge a team or it's manager on the last day of the season, when it actually means something.

So does that leave just Jake Clarke-Salter and Luke James as our only loan players or have I missed someone. I

But the present manager isn't trying to do it with a team built around a group of washed up Scottish players.

Why do people keeping saying we've got "essentially a conference side". This side was too good for the Conference and too good for League Two. Grow up.

Clarke has an aversion to a rotation system? You could have fooled me!

Had the referee applied the rules correctly at Wembley though, we may well not have been 'too good' for the Conference. But he didn't, so it looks like we were.
