Let's get this straight, a new owner comes in, pays off all of the old board, pays off Wonga, employs a professional team to go through the shoe box and sort out the paperwork for UWE, buys a new training ground, (buying the site itself is probably the cheapest part of that project) gives the manager the biggest fattest contract any Rovers' manager has ever had, gives the manager the support team that he asks for including a recruitment specialist, we had a playing squad of 35 (largest in our history it was reported). The manager has said that he has funds. He's said that he's looking at bringing in a loan player, did he say that he wasn't going to bring in any permanent signings? Geez, I like a good moan more than most, but even my glass is more than half full at the moment. They said that this was the negative forum, don't go to Gaschat. Wonder what those sad sycophants who used to monitor this forum for the old board members are doing with their sad, lonely lives these days? Actually, come to think of it, I don't care Probably reporting a neighbour's dog that barked once last night, or trying to get someone clamped for parking with one wheel touching a yellow line. Keep up the good work guys

Same old moan... Makes you wonder how we ever got back-to-back promotions. Shame we can't use some of the £millions of debt wasted by the last board. I thought we had entered a new era ? We have. It's called not spending what we can't afford and still end up in the bloody conference!

I totally agree with Trunky -- Its not like we haven't known we've needed a new goalkeeper. And after the match at Charlton we also need further recruitment to keep us in this division. I thought Clark had already had this sewn up weeks ago -- Maybe I was wrong. We are 6 days into the transfer window - relax, stay calm, we have 36 points and can afford to wait to get the right players. No no need for the knee jerk, cash throwing around reaction one can see down the road!

Has'nt DC said he wants to sign players with next season in mind,by that i assume he wants players who may be called upon for 2nd tier duties. I assume he has'nt been able to get these players (probably) and so its into the loan market we go.

I am convinced the more I read some of the criticism that we aren't doing enough to get promotion, that DC doesn't want promotion, that we haven't signed any players, etc etc that some actually hanker after the old days of Higgs etc. Surely with him in charge we would be top of the league in a shinny new stadium.... and we would have had that bus tour! Bloody short memories some, mind you I wonder when GoDs book is out so that we can know the full story behind everything.... he's obviously missed the Christmas sales perhaps he's going for Easter!

Just been reading the "appreciation" page on Facebook. Some of the comments make me wonder that if the posters were stopped by plod and asked "what's in your boot?" they would reply, "5 toes and a sock".

Geez, I like a good moan more than most, but even my glass is more than half full at the moment. Bamber, if you are going to turn the direction of the thread from a bash the manager/board and have a moan towards stating factual content then please don't forget that the club have also employed a full compliment of backroom medical and physio staff, in the space of less than 12 months Bristol Rovers off the pitch is unrecognisable, some don't want to recognise this though unfortunately, it still isn't good enough! In fairness to GD back in his day as chairman, besides acquiring the Mem in a cute deal when Bristol RFC hit hard times financially, the man actually promised nothing and backed that up by delivering precisely nothing to take the club forward. Then under NH's recent tenure we all know what style was adopted there and the predictable results that ensued, following a string of empty promises and watertight contracts, so as the club continued to run as an amateur set up there appeared to be very little challenge to the board from fans towards both past Chairman. Now we have a leader in place who from day one set out his plans clearly, to build the club from the bottom upwards and turn us into a professional football club, he has made it clear from day one that big sums of money on big signings will not happen, and the money will initially go into building the club structure and academy. Absolutely without a shadow of doubt IMO this club has progressed massively in under a year, yet the voices of discontent are getting louder online, I avoid FB fan comments because its clear that far too many so called supporters of the club either didn't listen to Waels plan when he arrived, didn't fully understand it, or don't have a logical way of thinking. For the first time in the clubs history we have an extremely successful businessman who gets it at Rovers and is taking the club to areas never achieved in the past, I think you have every reason to feel you have a glass more than half full and I think there are plenty of Gasheads who feel the same, to some it will never be good enough though unfortunately. If there are no funds being made available for permanent signings in January because money is being used elsewhere to secure the long term future of the club and bring about a new home then there will be no complaints from this little part of South Gloucestershire, because a mid table finish this season is achievable, and not a bad resting perch in the bigger picture of progressing the club that many seem to have forgotten achieved national status for goals scored, winning streaks and home records in recent times. You cant please everyone though!

You cant please everyone though! Just 2 points. The manager says that he has the backing of the owners to bring in new players. I was told that it was the bank that insisted on the clause with the rugby club that ended up Rovers owning what had been their half of the stadium for a peppercorn sum.

why oh why do people automatically assume, wael isn't putting his hand in his pocket for us to sign that top league 1 / championship player we all want ........
because
1) it bloody January all the top talent is tie up under contract and for us too go in would cost over and above what they are worth
2) we have just come up from League 2, we are still a "small club" in league one terms punching well above our weight so who wants to come to an unknown - yes from us fans point of view we are the greatest club in the entire league , we are the Gas and we rock simple as that, but from a professional view - we don't even have a decent training ground! as of yet, the mem doesn't really sell itself as a top flight venue on a cold January morning in the rain and winds.
3) financial flair play rules - we still have to abide by them and our turnover from last season was a great leap.
4) the moaners and fatalist can take a long walk of a very short cliff and go south of the river, Wael has money but it evolution not revolution

Our trialist goalkeeper is GIANLUCA CURCI born 12.7.1985 Rome 6’ 4”; 14 st 3 lbs Career: 1994 Roma (professional, 2004); 25.6.08 Robur Siena (€1,750,000) [68,0]; 1.7.10 Sampdoria (€2,225,000) [35,0]; 24.6.11 Roma [19+2,0]; 16.7.123 Bologna (loan) [51,0]; 15.8.15 Mainz 05 (free); With two Under-19 caps, three at Under-20 level and twenty-two appearances for the Italian Under-21 side under his belt, he could certainly boast experience. Following his Serie A début in Roma’s goalless draw at Cagliari’s Stadio Sant’Elia in September 2005, he had also been on the bench for several Champions League encounters against Manchester United before moving away from the capital. Sent off in Siena’s 4-0 defeat at AC Milan in January 2010, his tenth-minute red card coming before any of Ronaldinho’s hat-trick goals, he also made three outstanding reaction saves in the Tuscan derby against Fiorentina that May. Sporadic appearances came in each season as Roma finished in second place in the league in three consecutive seasons, 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08. After playing in a Champions League qualifier for Sampdoria against Werder Bremen, Curci returned to Roma as back-up for Maarten Stekelenburg. He was on the bench for Roma’s victories in the Italian Super Cup in 2007 and Italian Cup in 2008, as well as both Champions League ties against Manchester City in the autumn of 2014 and was an unused substitute in 23 Bundesliga games with Mainz before arriving on trial at Rovers.

Someone post a copy of the current league table next to the valuation of the entire squad, before anyone else gets manic depressive about how much of a terrible state we are in at the moment.....

According to DC in this morning's papers we will probably have to dip into the loan market again, when are we actually going to get a board prepared to invest in the squad I find it incredible that we didn't have a goalkeeper lined up by the opening of the January transfer window it is the one position on the field that you cant afford to mess about with if we go into Sat's match with what we have got and fail to get a result the blame will lie squarely on the managements shoulders. What do you class as reasonable investment? I am sure it is different to everbody else. Some people suggest we spend 300k+ for Boogle for instance. DC says he wants the right players (permanently) and might have to wait until the summer to get them, hence the prospect of loans now. I guess we may have a keeper lined up but they needed to get him over here to have a proper look at him It's very different to what DC was saying just a short while ago. Remember him saying the owner had given him the green light to strengthen the squad and at least 3 will be coming in ? I don't get the ever changing stories. Something isn't right here in my opinion

Interesting thread and picking through the comments and theories this is my tuppence worth of ramblings.... I'm convinced Wael has a realistic plan to take the club forward and as he stated this starts with ensuring a professional set-up and infrastructure. That in itself is a major step forward from previous regimes..having a plan I mean! The influx of specialist off field experts and the purchase of the training ground is evidence the plan has been deployed and progress is being made. Of course a new stadium is a major part of the plan and I agree that news on its status is overdue. The new stadium is undoubtedly a critical element to the future financial success of the club, the ability to attract the best players and will at last provide a stadium supporters will be proud to call "Our ground". Little wonder Gasheads are chafing at the bit for updates. Wael knows the importance of a new stadium to the club so given the investment he has made to date, his business acumen and his enthusiasm I'm confident he and the team will be doing all they can to make it happen. Wael has made it very clear that big spending on players is not a priority...at this stage. That suggests to me the last seasons promotion may have come 'ahead of schedule' and another promotion this season may jeopardise the planned progression of the club so consolidation is the strategy for this season and maybe even next. While Gasheads need to be patient, after decades of mediocrity the success of the past few seasons should not be understated. Like all Gasheads I hate seeing Rovers lose (especially 4-1!) but we really should put away the moaning and enjoy the ride as under the current leadership I'm sure more success is on its way. COYB!

I think the time to worry is if nothing happens.
