What do you know Henbury? Are you suggesting we may be in talks with south glos regarding an alternative site? Nothing definite from my good friend but a lot of talk in the office about alternative sites available if the UWE pull out. Apparently lots of land on the Ring road the Council own Good to know, i was a little concerned the new owners didn't know the local area but hopefully we can go to uwe and say if you don't play ball we'll build it somewhere else and south glos can back this up with alternative sites. Sounds like if uwe does happen it will require new pp, as i think wael wants the academy next door and at least 30k capacity.

Hopefully UWE will see this is their only real chance of getting a stadium built and be reasonable.

I don't think there is any room for an academy on the UWE site, and definitely not if we increase to 30K - it would mean there would be no parking on site. Getting the planning through the parking had to be maximised, and the parking aspect was also something that UWE themselves needed to use when games weren't on. The advantage that UWE had for planning was the public transport links: Filton Abbeywood and Parkway railway stations in walking distance, and it will be on the Metrobus route. There is also the possibility of parking at Filton retail park on evening games, and maybe it could be negotiated to use the car parks of HP and one of MoD's on Saturdays.

I don't know - UWE is probably slightly better for transport, but Emerson's green is way better in term of the land available. There's loads of land available opposite Sainsburys. Its right next to the park and ride that's being built, so will be linked to the new metrobus system, from both Parkway and from town. Not far from the M32/ring road junction, and very close to the proposed new M4 / ring road junction. Also right by the Bristol bath cycle path.
So you've got loads of land already earmarked for mixed use development, good road links, parking, public transport and cycle access. Also a large community with very few public services on its doorstep, keen to use a new leisure centre and whatever else you build with the stadium. And right next to my work!
I'm off to make an offer for the Willy Wicket...

Well I guess if there is more land available and the council are happy to let it go at a favourable rate the Al-Qadi's may well take that route. Personally I don't mind where it goes and if building on the Ring Road gives us a bigger, better stadium with associated leisure facilities, etc, etc then that may be a much better option.

Is there any land left opposite Sainsburys that hasn't disappeared under the Lyde Green development?

Is there any land left opposite Sainsburys that hasn't disappeared under the Lyde Green development? Yeah loads, its a huge site. Have a look on google maps, the development area is a triangle bordered by the Bristol Bath railway path & the Dramway, the M4, and the ring road. Development has only been started on about half of it.
The new park and ride is being built to the north of Lyde Green roundabout. The area I'm highlighting is over the road from there, bordering the cycle path, opposite the quarry. It must be 5 times the size of the UWE stadium land.

Absolutley no chance of the MOD allowing parking on a match day. The security risk would be a huge problem.

Would be a great site. Close to plenty of pubs unlike UWE. However, the thought of planning again fills me with dread. For me, UWE is the only option.

But if one of the other consortia had taken over tyhen the existing bans would not have been uplifted would they Kevin? Hypothetical but I think it would have been. The consortium which included an ex director would in all probability extended it to a life ban

On a weekend they would surely only need to have 1 operating for staff. One of the car parks isn't directly on their site. No harm in asking if we need extra car parking space.

Probably got the best deal possible, new owner with a sensible approach and a knowledge of the game.Appointing staff/directors who have specific responsibilities and good know ledge to go with them..Sounds professional and makes the future look rosy for the first time in decades.Just need the absent fans to return,no reason not to now,and no unreasonable expectations from fans about buying success, like the post about trying to get Lambert back. Anyway welcome back

Anyway welcome back Thank you Brian, that really is appreciated. I've just had a conversation with one of the club employees and they confirmed exactly what you have said about the new owners. A different class and way above anything they have known before. I can't wait for it to filter through to every tier of the club. It's what we have all wanted since we became supporters and like you I hope the gates improve as the club progresses. A supporter who hasn't been for nearly 4 years is coming with me tomorrow so it's a start.

I expect its all been earmarked for use already. Houses, houses, houses. Let's hope they leave space for the motorway junction the area blatantly needs.

Someone should buy the Royal archer as it closed again just after Xmas. It would be s great pub for us Kingdwood pirates. Have it run like the dedicated sports bars in USA. Get fans to turn up on match days and then have SC coaches pick up and drop off. I saw this in Chigago and loved it. We met at the sports bar and it had videos of the Chicago Bulls and coach etc and it would be rammed with fans. Such a good idea and no worries about driving and having to be strict on the drinking. I think we could learn a great deal from how the Americans treat fans and the quality of service. Beer and food brought to seats and everything geared for that.
