It would have been good to get Gaffney but he is their player and it's up to them if they sell. Perhaps they did do the dirty and change their mind but it was their prerogative to do so, he was their player. Let's move on and find another target don't let it become another James Constable or JJOT. Yes he was playing well but so were the rest of the team. We move on and DC has signed a midfielder who he seems to be pleased with. Their forum seems very wound up about this. We just need to cool it and move on. I hope that a result today and we will have forgotten about all this in a weeks time. UTG!

Although Cambridge's manager & CE seem to keep stoking the fire with their continued talk about Gaffeny.

Rory only has 6 months left on his contract, perhaps DC has already had the conversation for next season when he will be free. I would imagine that he is not best pleased that Derry went back on his word anyway.

Darrell Clarke knows how football works, he'll recognise the fact that Cambridge were in a bind once Gillingham did the same thing to them with Williamson, and I'd be very surprised if he bore a grudge against Derry.
s**t happens. Meanwhile we need a striker.

But Cambridge must be acutely aware of his contract, so they're treading a fine line.

Hardly. They were prepared to let him come here until their circumstances changed. As it is, he's playing for a new deal for the rest of this season, whether its there or here or anywhere else. Cambridge have absolutely nothing to lose by holding on to him, unless they need to free up his wages, in which case they'd let him go.

If they overplay their hand Rory Gaffney will become a free agent in the summer, leaving Cambridge without potentially a player or a transfer fee. As for the need to free-up his wages, well I thought that this was part of the original plan that Cambridge had when they allowed him to come here.

Not sure cashing in is the right term as any fee should be small given the circumstances and the amount of games he has played. Also if he plays well they may offer a good contract.

I don't think he's worth more than a nominal fee though. He's worth more to them as a player. The loan deal was because he needed games, not wages. The fact he got games and goals meant it couldn't have gone better for them or us.

There will be a conference call tomorrow between the two Chairmen. My two mates spoke to Nick Higgs before the game started today to ask him what the latest position was. So who knows what might transpire next week....fortunately Gaffney didn't score today so maybe they can't get the best out of him

Who knows? But the fact that the two Chairman are talking today (or at all for that matter) is encouraging for BRFC. But that doesn't mean that a deal is imminent, because I feel that Cambridge definitely see themselves as being in the driving seat and will push a hard deal. But I still feel that the deal is ''live'' though.

I did not take that as an indication that he will have signed for us by then, more so talks will take place before the game at Oxford, so we'll have to wait and see. ,

One is a ginger striker the other doesn't know how to tell the truth or give a straight answer.

Hate to bring this up again (and to post a sun article) but pretty clear Rory wants out and mentions this weekend as a time where something might happen.

Didn't someone on here quote NH's as saying after the Barnet match, words to the effect of ''let's see where he is next Saturday.''Fingers still firmly crossed as it's only Wednesday . . . well OK, almost Thursday now I grant you.

Signing in the next week or two for £50k on an 18 month deal. You heard it here first. (Source is my mate Terry) Terry delivers. Get well soon Terry.

But then again no-one ever doubted him, and that it would happen as predicted. It just took the club longer than us fainthearts could bear.

Interesting that now cambridge have got their target.
williamson from gills for undisclosed.
i guess out of all this gillingham might be seen as the financial winners and us the financial losers while cambridge sit on evens in the middle.
a short while ago I guess cambridge were to get Williamson on a free while we get Gaffney on similar deal.
rory messes up by scoring a hatful, cambridge squeeze us for cash and down the line gillingham take said cash from cambridge for Williamson.
final upshot is both league 2 teams get their man. Gillingham get unexpected windfall, cambridge break even and we are left, relatively, out of pocket.
such is life
now lets see, over the remains of the season, who are the main beneficiaries regarding the 2 strikers...
