I think that if Cambridge had signed Ben Williamson from Gillingham it would have been quite a different story being told now, because if you recall what Shaun Derry is reported as having said in the Cambridge local press a short while ago, it is quite different to what he is saying now. But then again it's all a game, to which only a few are privy to all of the rules . . . one of them being SO's mate Terry of course.

Maybe our Chairman could have a word with their Chairman. The etiquette of getting players may not allow this (ethically), but DC is respecting the wishes/actions of Derry as he says he would not like his players being unsettled by another club which is fair enough. Bristol Rovers: eternally too nice. That's a very generous thing of you to say about BRFC. Personally I think that we're a little backward, or naive even.

Hmmmmmm.......Derry changes his mind like a bedmi girl changes her knickers (or perhaps that analogy means he has no mind).....methinks we haven't heard the last of this.

C'est la vie, players come and players go.
If Lawrence gets 3 assists and a goal in the next match, we won't be as worried about missing out on Gaffney, as much as I liked him.

Are Cambridge really in charge of the situation over R.Gaffney because as I see it in 4-5 months time he will, if his contract ends will be on a free or he will be disatified and will want to leave his present club anyway. So unless i'm wrong Cambridge will try to get rid of him over the transfer window as the manager is still looking at other players.

Yes, Cambridge are in charge. They hold his registration and don't want to let him leave. He doesn't really warrant a fee just now due to his recent injury history so its in his interest to do the best he can for them so he can command his own destiny in the summer, if he wants to.
He might feel he owes Cambridge for sticking by him during his injury, who knows?

Best of luck to Gaffers. Time to move on, there is no loyalty in football, DC will be selling Taylor any time soon, which will free up some funds and so it goes on. All part of being a Gashead. UTG

UTG Jermaine pennant is on trial in Singapore (for a football club admittedly). Be interesting to see how Liverpool reserves fare against Exeter and whether a young un from the prem is better than a mature un from this league. Perhaps Pulis can lend us Lambert?

From todays Cambridge News . . .
I think that it's possible Shaun Derry may well be playing mind games, but equally I don't think that the deal is completely dead because that statement is a definite invitation to Rovers to come out and play.

Yes - I think you are probably right there. Cambridge clearly want us to overpay for Gaffney at this point - the question is whether the gamble is worth it. Assuming our manager has a budget to work with I think he deserves the leeway to make that judgement.

I guess we may have gone quiet on the deal and now Derry is worried thinking that he's going to be stuck with a player he doesn't want and a player who doesn't want to play for him.
Perhaps "to nice" Rovers should just now look elsewhere to teach Cambridge a lesson?
