Whichever way this goes I would assume he will not playing for us Saturday at Barnet.

So as far as the two clubs go it probably wouldn't alter anything but think it may not do a lot of good for the player either?

That's not aimed at Gaffney as such, but just an observation.
Players up and down seem to want to leave to play, but aren't seemingly prepared to put in a transfer request. It all seems they huff and puff until the club(s) have to submit

It's the ha'penny and the bun scenario all over again. Many seem to want both.

Its Cambridge's prerogative to do this. We should have had a firmer agreement with them.
I think both sides have been caught out by how well he has done on loan, to be honest. We're suddenly desperate to keep him and its not political for them to let him go easily because their fans are revolting.

Really left-field I know, but with Louis Carey at the Luton game is it possible that a struggling Championship side which cannot score goals is likely to take a punt?!

I'm expecting a bit of brinksmanship. If we do well against Barnet without him we'll probably feel stronger about it
could drag into January, I'd imagine

I can't help but see the similarities in it. If you asked the fans then you would get a huge vote of yes, please sign him. The difference here is we now have a manager who will not be held to ransom and seems to have a very rigid ethic of not paying over the odds for any player. As much as I would love to have him sign, I don't want it to be at the expense of having a player on higher wages than the rest. It's a bloody shame that the verbal agreement was not a solid one as, of course, any club will want more recompense for a player who is performing very well. As I understand it, Gaffney wants to be here though & I hope that this has at least some bearing upon negotiations going on now

I just hope this doesn't turn into another one of those episodes where we chase one player for the whole of a transfer window, don't get him, and take our eye off the ball in all other areas.
DC needs to set a deadline on this - say Wednesday this week, and if nothing is settled, move on.

I agree with you completely.

This is between the two clubs if we can't afford what they want then we have to move on. As for Gaffney's wages I suspect they will be the same as what he is on at Cambridge,as he was happy for us to take over his contract and come here.

I agree with you completely. I don't think it matters all that much - I don think we're really intending to do much business in this transfer window. Possibly bring in Gaffney, possibly bring in a goalkeeper. Other than that is there much more we really need to be doing? Especially given that January is a crap time to do business because it is a sellers market (clubs know exactly how desperate other clubs are for certain players) as Cambridge are giving a perfect example of right now.

A week in football - 4 goals in two games - suddenly the whole world wants you.
Just being realistic but a few short weeks ago no one really wanted Rory, he himself said he was surprised to get a move here.
Sanity will return and people will recall he has played just 12 FL matches in L2 and a few for Limerick in Ireland.
He is not yet Lionel Messi as suggested in some articles. If we want him badly enough we will get him for a fee and possibly an extended 18 month deal to give him extra security & to justify the fee.
Hope he rejoins us but if he doesn't there is still Nathan.....!

Let's be honest. We need Gaffney, and relying on Bliss etc again is not good enough for our future. We want to go places, not be an indifferent going no-where team. Gaffney has had a big impact on our team as a whole, he fits in well with JE and Matty and his goals have been in the right games at the right time. Get him, pay him and play him. Gaffney is a solution staring us in the face. And we want to go up automatically. Period.
