I guess the bigger picture is do you want a Sports Therapist treating injured players during the week or a fully qualified physio? Given all the problems we've had with injured players never recovering in recent years I'm surprised the club didn't stick with a physio, regardless of the cost. Oh yes, clubs definitely need them on their staff.
it's just the being allowed on the pitch rubbish that gets me, why only a physio with x,y,z FA qualification or whatever can go on the pitch when you have doctors and paramedics around
What is two players get injured at the same time? Quite common in football.

What a great service she has done the club and every sensible fan would thank and applaud her. She cannot have gone into this with her eyes closed though; over 5000 people, predominately men, many who have been drinking and go to let of steam, will find something to mock. I am certain, now you have explained the position, that there would be less written banter. I am not sure you would stop the crowd and I sincerely hope that it does not stop Jo volunteering. On behalf of many, please pass on our gratitude. It's strange that in rugby (sorry to mention the "r" word) which seems to have a lot of physios who are female and where people are allowed to drink on the terraces, the crowds don't seem to react in such a manner. Perhaps they get out more.... As you say interceptor, well done to her and many thanks. They probably did at first. Once people get used to it, gender will be all forgotten.

Often the other club's physio comes on, Kitey used to.

But if physios don't have to be qualified, then that wouldn't make any difference.

what's the difference between a qualified Physio and a qualified Physio that has some F.A badge that allows them on the pitch?

I like the way it took someone to point out that Jo is a human for her to get some respect on here.

I don't know Jo but she is doing the Football Club and us fans a MASSIVE FAVOUR so we should give her the respect she deserves.

I do know though that when I did my FA first aid for football course, it was quite different to my work first aid course. There was much more emphasis on things that are likely to occur in football, e.g breaks and sprains rather than strokes and burns. Maybe the FA physio badge is along the same lines?

I am not sure what all these FA qualifications to go on the pitch for a physio are all about. All seems a bit nonsensical to me.
If their is a serious injury the Doctor or paramedics will be needed. I mean what else to footballers go down with strains or knocks they just run off
Yes clubs need qualified Physios, but then there is taking it to the extreme for what seems little real reason
edit:
Thanks for volunteering Jo
I expect the course is held at St George's Park which needs to be paid for.

Does anyone object if I send some of these positive comments to Jo since she is feeling a bit of a target at the moment which has been quite upsetting for her

That's awful. Make sure she knows that those people are just morons showing off to their mates to cover up their own insecurities.

I thought that she was fantastic last night. I could hear her tell our new recruit (Montana)
"Do yourself a favour son, it's early days in your Rovers career, you have just come on as sub, so get to the sidelines and run it off, you wimp. You're the one with so-called baggage and I refuse to use the sponge in mine for a tap on the ankle."
Who needs qualifications, when you have these effective counselling skills?
Kitey, Stephen Peters, Jose (?) would have been proud of your decisive and successful contribution on your first meaningful treatment.
The first half aborted appearance could have been portrayed as a mere tease, but was nothing more than a test for the tannoy announcer, who struggled to be audible last night and missed "debut" announcements for the physio and then Ryan Broom.
She playfully kissed one of the Stewards at half-time (missed that eh?) which shows that she has the confidence to interact with the crowd, probably more so than Roy Dolling ever did.
Quite a debut!

As others have said what she's doing is brilliant, driving up from Devon after her day job to help out her club. Hats off to her. Cheers Jo.

yes Jo used to be a steward to support herself at university and she did kiss me on the touchline but then we have been friends since her stewarding days and often car share to away games so that does not mean she could not feel hurt if people take the micky out of her. continued support for jo is needed from all gasheads. she will not be leaving her secure job with the nhs in Devon as she is a specialist in community physiotherapy with amputees and stroke victims etc and not in treating "fragile" footballers. its a lovely experience for her though given her indisputable passion for the gas

Perhaps you could ask Keith Brookman to run an article about her and how she came to be carrying out the role? If he passed it onto the press then perhaps people might think before jumping in mouth first.

The facts in this case are;
a) She's helping us out in our hour of need after another in club f**k up. b) She's doing it for very little and giving up a lot of her free time. c) If she is capable it doesn't matter what sex she is.
Every team we play away this season will probably wolf whistle and all that bollocks as long as Jo is our physio. She's a member of our team and we should support her.

Perhaps some one could contact Keith since I don't have his email and jo would probably strangle me for doing it although I think it would be a great idea for the programme.

In all seriousness, most of the physios I have attended have been female and it's 2015.
The novelty factor will soon wear off and with it the ironic cheers.
Positive news. She did not need the vultures on the sidelines to carry off Montana, thanks to her "counselling skills'. Jo 1 Vultures 0.
However, I need to see a BRFC physio invade the pitch for a last-minute winner to gain my 100% respect, male or female.
