This forum isn't anti- or pro- board. Before the OF closed, it probably was generally anti, given the fact that members chose to post on here rather than the OF, and the significant number of banned OF posters who caame here. y But since the closure of the OF, the active membership has doubled and views of all sorts are freely expressed. In effect it's a new forum, and all the better for it. The only thing missing from this forum is the entire membership of gaschat, which is full of good ex-OF posters who talk a lot of sense, but who wish to exclude themselves from here, which, like it or not, is clearly now the (un)official forum. It's a shame that people didn't stick around for more than a couple of days before setting up Gaschat. They came to the old indie forum just after we'd been relegated and just after the OF had been closed. It's hardly surprising that the sentiments towards the board were largely negative - and rightly so in my opinion. Over the last couple of weeks old OF posters who decided to stay have found their voice and indeed balanced out a lot of the criticism of the board. The fact that it still appears to be so negative is largely because we're in the bloody conference - I'm not sure what people expect really. Having said all that, I'm not particularly upset to be going without the 'things that look like nobs that aren't nobs' etc threads that have appeared on Gaschat. Not really my cup of tea tbh.

Perhaps they think that about us, that we ought to be on their forum expressing our ahem....sensible views The trouble is now both sets of mods have worked so hard in getting their respective forums up and running there would appear to be little chance of a merger. The perception of this forum by some others is that generally it is anti board, whatever that means. I think many of us are anti failure and desparately want to turn that around, unfortunately the common denominator in all of that is..........

One thing I will say is that I'm extremely impressed with some of the new posters we've gained over the last month. I don't think I've come across Bridgeman or aghast particularly before, but I think they both do a good job of providing balanced criticism, as opposed to the more 'passionate' criticism we've seen previously. I hope they and others stick around for the long term.

I now this wll annoy a lot of people, but I don't care. I think that attempting to unite a divided set of fans is only ever going to be a good thing, despite some objections along the way.
I've posted a few things along these lines now and had a lot of negative stuff, which frankly astounds me.
Does anyone want to join my cause to unite the forums or should I just shut up?

It doesn't annoy me at all! I agree that a united set of fans - at least in terms of where we choose to debate the issues - would be a good thing. I'm just not sure how fruitful any attempts will be. My take on the whole thing is that after 8 years of enforced division, the fanbase had a real opportunity to come together under one umbrella when the OF was shut down. I found it a little sad when some of the old OF posters decided to build those divisions again by setting up their own forum, but it's absolutely their right to do so, and I can quite understand the shock/unease that many of them felt when they first came over to this strange other place that many of them had only heard about in hearsay. I truly believe that if people had stuck around and contributed, then we could have come to a pretty happy understanding where people of all flavours would have been welcome, and happy to post/argue about their differing sets of opinions. Having said that, the divisions are now up, and I don't think people will be persuaded to abandon other forums unless this place becomes so large that people gravitate towards where the majority of matchday conversation is. If it does, then great, but I'm not bothered about another set of fans doing what makes them happy and discussing the things they want to discuss in their own surroundings. Vive la différence!

I hope they and others stick around for the long term. Well I logged on the day after the OF closed and have been posting most days since. I've been head hunted but I've given a firm rebuff and given my reasons that I felt there was in my opinion no reason to run off and start another forum while this one was still in its infancy and developing. What I felt was extemely unfair was the criticism that this forum was mostly about board bashing. There has no doubt been intense criticism of the BoD since the relegation (and mostly well deserved too !) but what got my goat was the closure of the OF without warning and for very implausible reasons and lost me many good contacts of fellow forumers. I've already expressed (tongue in cheek) that I was going absolutely no where regardless of any criticism or disagreement of my posts and that remains the same now. The forum has not only steadily increased in numbers (which is good) but has also expanded its topics of discussion (which is even better). But what has made it even better still is that my mate Oxongas (who I've never met and still owe a pint to) has created another avatar for me to go with my name of one of the bridges that have to cross to come back home. So just to confirm, I ain't going nowhere, I'm staying 'Bridgey'

one thing that really bothers me with the anti board stuff is how could they imagine a massively experienced manager like mark mcghee would sign utter rubbish like oriordan, kenneth and patterson or that the up and coming manager would assemble a poor side, those guys wasted the clubs money,,like now with d clarke they have to try and back him because hes the professional football man,,,does anyone see what im driving at?

Yes I see what your driving at mdkgb and I've posted many times about the fundamental flaw in Nick's strategy of " I employ a manager and let him manage". Every manager needs managing and they all need managing in different ways. IMO all of the managers of recent times could have succeeded if they had been managed properly by Nick and the board. I know, you've heard it all before

Simple answer. You do your due diligence before you appoint and research every point relevant to the prospective manager who you wish to appoint. With McGhee there were a lot of people inside the game who were asking privately where would McGhee find his players as he didn't know the basement division. I think they were right. As for Buckle, I was consistent before his appointment that he would be poor as I had been close to Torquay UTD for two years and no Nick Higgs it wasn't because he sacked my son in law because that never happened. Clarke? Why not I don't think that this is now a job for an experienced league manager who would have to learn about non league.

Yep, count me in on that, perhaps we can do it by stealth and reason by infiltrating other forums with a dfifferent name and then causing so much mayhem and disagreement they'll be glad to join this one and once here will be so impressed with the level of debate and intelligence they'll never want to leave......does that sound doable I do completely agree with you by the way but not sure how possible that will be as I've said on another thread the mods have worked extremely hard developing their respective forums they are unlikely to want to merge. But no, don't shut up

Yes I do, but at some point those who appoint the managers have to accept that they are culpable for the failings of any manager they appoint. If I appoint an employee who turns out to be a poor performer I have to take full responsibility for my error of judgement, I can't blame it on anybody else. The criteria and objectives I use in the interview process is critical to appointing the right person, if I keep getting it wrong I would be failing my company.
