It's a strange one this. Being the largest of the forums doesn't necessarily mean we are the most balanced, although you could debate there are more individuals to have differing views, however does it really matter. I think it's an extremely well run forum and feels a good place to be with a good variety of posts and differing opinions. Being a regular user of the now closed Official Forum I have noticed there is a huge increase in the number of guests on this forum (i.e. people not registered but just accessing the site) in comparison to the former OF. Other than notable events happening at the club rarely did you get over 500 guests on the OF, on this one there are regularly in excess of 2,000 (I have a reasonable memory for stats). Can one assume the content of this forum is generating that increased interest ? I would prefer if we didn't have the other forums, that we could just have one where we would all be prepared to tolerate one another but that's unlikely to happen particulary where those who have created the other forums have invested a lot of time in creating them and wouldn't easily want to merge with another one and I understand that. I don't think the other one's are actually 'happy clappy', certainly one was created because the creator's preference was towards just discussing 'all things Rovers' without the content of critical posts. I must admit having viewed that forum many of their thread titles aren't that dissimilar to ours. TBF talking about 2000+ guests on here is based over 24 hours. On the OF the guests were based over 15 mins. So just a slight difference.... So IMO this forum isn't generating more interest per se, just higher numbers due to a longer period of time. To be honest I am not bothered about the numbers. When The original alternative forum had to close I agreed to help Jeff and Ted with the Independent one. We are happy for the forum to go where it naturally will go (as in we hate to edit or delete threads). We then had some technical issues at the same time as the Official Forum closed. This forum was then born. I / WE have actively advertised the forum as we wanted all gasheads to feel welcome (which they are). The more new posters post the more balanced it will become.

That's interesting, so there may have been as many guests if not more on the former OF which just goes to show what an appalling decision was made to not only disenfranchise nearly 10,500 former members but also the possibility of thousands of other guests too, talk about shooting yourself in the foot :wallbang:

As I've said before, I don't see the relationship between forums as a 'them & us' or as some sort of competition for members.
The origins of this forum was the 'Alternative Forum' created by many members who were 'banned' from the OF often for no more than criticising the club or BoD. No surprise then that that forum did have a majority anti board sentiment.
Times have changed and the closing of the OF has sent 100's if not 1,000's of Gasheads looking for an ahem..alternative. This forum is just one of them.
The tone and quality of this forum will be determined by its members and I would prefer a balanced debate as possible. That means we will need people like mdknewgeoffbradford and others to start threads like this to debate the issues.
Although I do find it ironic that a thread of this nature, suggesting alternative forums, would not have lasted more than a few minutes under the moderating policies of the old OF.
Vive la différence.

Hello MDKNEWGF !
I think the meeting on June 10th will reflect a "moderate" view on what is going on with our precious club, at least the three of us who have been the main instigators would probably say that that is our stance. So if that sounds good to you I hope you'll come on Tuesday.

I am very anti-BoD. In my experience the OF attracted a lot of abuse towards them, and other BRFC staff, along with all the other tittle-tattle, and this was tolerated unless it got too close to the truth.
Anyone can gve their opinions on this MB. I don't personally abuse BoD supporters myself and I wish others wouldn't, but I won't sit by and listen to what I consider fantasy about how they are Gasheads just like us and it will all work out if we support them, because they aren't and it won't.

I'd rather have our board of directors to Vincent Tan, but that might not be a popular opinion!
Blimey, another post from me in favour of our board - I think my pro-board posts are starting to outweigh the anti ones now.

If we've ended up where we are when "they are all doing their best", then surely it doesn't bode well for the future? We're all doomed!

We're all doomed! The question is whether it was luck and chemistry that sent us down, or luck and chemistry that was keeping us up for so many years...?

This forum isn't anti- or pro- board.
Before the OF closed, it probably was generally anti, given the fact that members chose to post on here rather than the OF, and the significant number of banned OF posters who caame here. y But since the closure of the OF, the active membership has doubled and views of all sorts are freely expressed. In effect it's a new forum, and all the better for it.
The only thing missing from this forum is the entire membership of gaschat, which is full of good ex-OF posters who talk a lot of sense, but who wish to exclude themselves from here, which, like it or not, is clearly now the (un)official forum.
