Perhaps Forum members can see now why we wanted to remove that section of the forum. Sorry but my time is very limited at the moment and I refuse to run around in circles. If that post was aimed at me oxon, and there is no doubt in my mind that it was, perhaps you might explain to me why you appear to be offended by what I posted? I was asked a perfectly reasonable question by KP, which I answered as fully as I could without (hopefully) causing offence to anyone. But when you state in your post ''Perhaps Forum members can see now why we wanted to remove that section of the forum,'' then frankly I can't, basing that upon my post. Furthermore I don't know exactly what you mean by your reply, but as your time is limited I don't expect (or necessarily want) a reply from you. Kind regards.

So can I, it's called cognitive dissonance. People who can't handle their world view being challenged with conflicting information tend to bury their head in the sand. When dissonance is present the person will actively avoid situations and information which would likely increase that dissonance. It's the pathetic way of the world now sadly. watch out, the Son of David Icke is back No PM I see, I thought as much. Always the same with your type. Coward.

Perhaps Forum members can see now why we wanted to remove that section of the forum. Sorry but my time is very limited at the moment and I refuse to run around in circles. I think maybe the admins have missed a point. Back when the alternative forum started up a lot of political discussions and circular arguments used to crop up in the football section. It's bound to happen, a forum is just like chatting with your mates down the pub, topics divert in strange directions. As such people complained, there were plenty of people who just wanted to read about football and didn't really want to read about various economic theories or the origins of conflict in the Middle East. The cry at the time was, "Give them a place where they can spout off without bothering the rest of us". And so the, "serious stuff" section was born.
By removing the "current affairs" section I think you may not have got rid of the problems of libellous postings, etc. just simply moved them back to a place where they are even less welcome. There are already the old arguments creeping back in here. Well thought out post splitter, full of good old fashioned common sense. By being a little more hands-on, I don't believe that there would have been as many problems as there undoubtedly were on the Current Affairs forum. Fair but firm should have been the watchword, whoever the posters were. But as it is everyone suffers for a very small minority, and strangely the Current Affairs forum appears to have in part transferred itself to the Gas Guzzler forum. What makes me laugh more than anything though, is that one or two of the posters who posted most of the drivel, are in the vanguard of the now offended. You couldn't make it up, could you?

I think that's right. Perhaps we, as members, should take some responsibility here. For example ZFC, who for the record I have met, makes quite awful statements about some ethnic groups, we should just ignore it. In that way it will be a single post which will fade into history. You might think what I said about Somalians is awful but nothing I said about them was incorrect. Anyone that comes into contact with the Somalian community rarely have anything positive to say about them.We are now at the stage where council workmen refuse to enter their free council houses and flats because of the disgusting smell and squalor these people "choose" to live in despite claiming huge benefits and being entitled to free bus passes and now they have jumped on the free disabled car bandwagon.

After reading the last few posts, I can only assume that the moderator has succumbed, and is now running around in circles.

Wait?! They're getting bandwagons and disabled cars?! When will it end?! It will never end as the Somali women give birth to litters of about 8 all free on the NHS.It doesn`t take a genius to work out how quick this community who refuse to integrate will spread.

PLEASE can we all just ignore this thread and let whoever wants to fight get it out of their systems and maybe chill the f*** up?!
Seriously, for every 1 person that comes here saying we should calm down, in goes another 4 stirring the pot and it never ends!
I for one have been throughly ignoring this thread here but seeing it being updated every single time by different people made me go in here and I already regret reading you all biting each other's heads deliberately and forgetting this is a BRISTOL ROVERS forum.
Sure, forums should and will have these kinds of off-topic discussions, but for f***'s sake just get it in your heads that this is a FOOTBALL FORUM and that if the topic has strayed too far, and you WANT TO - and you CAN - you may take the debate elsewhere and have your fix of arguments and ideals! It's really not that hard! We're in the f***ing internet! Just chat the other person up on Facebook or Twitter or PM the hell out of him, I don't know!
I seriously feel for the moderators for having to put up with this, it's like being parents to children who will not stop fighting no matter how sternly you tell 'em off, and will turn against you if you use "force" (as in, non-violently).
Come on people, let's all grow out of this thread and let it die peacefully, as I hope dies the pointless bickering too.

Sprout, relax. If you want to close the Current Affairs then that's your business ! It's your sand pit. I personally run a Message Board and I don't really understand your complaints of 'too much work', but hey ho, if that's the reason then so be it. But there are some on this board who are, shall we say, a bit precious, and pandering to their bleating doesn't do anyone any favours.......dare I say it without wearing body armour, but that's a bit like the old Official Forum? Just saying. There's the solution. If Padstow posts a link to his message board, all those wanting to promulgate unpleasantness, and those who bother to squabble with them, can go and do it there and clutter up that one. Our mods won't have to bother with it, and people who want to read this forum in the form that the mods aim to provide it can do so without it being spammed with bile about bogey men or having to zone out of outraged squabbling about something of which no-one else has any interest or else views with distaste. Everyone's happy. Glad to have helped.

Sadly Oldie that kind of discussion which would be well placed within a "serious or current affairs section" always used to reduce to name calling and people slagging each other off. Both you and I and others have been impacted by that. I have been on holiday and missed the deletion of the CA section. I had stopped posting after being called a liar by someone once they had lost their argument claiming incorrectly that I had deliberately misquoted him. It had become much as has been described earlier and very little actual discussion or debate took place with most postings eventually turning into mud slinging name calling competitions or propaganda rants. To be honest I became totally ambivalent about it and to whether it was right or wrong to delete it. My only thought was whether it was needed on a football forum.. One thing I would point out is that as far as I am aware none of the admin or moderators are legal experts and some of the postings had wandered into very dodgy areas. The issue of naming people who had been involved in so called paedophile rings, whether they were or not, would have serious consequences for those that run the forum. And believe me so called celebrities have people trawling the internet to protect their interests, even small football forums. "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" is a legal principle and admin would not be protected by their not fully understanding relevant legal principles or current case law. With regard to the original thread that was deleted ~ which I never read due to being away ~ I understand that in other social media such as Facebook that threads related to the individual had become quite nasty and had erred into areas that would be extremely upsetting for those who had lost a family member. Whilst I understand that the thread had stayed above that type of posting it is a very delicate balance and fine line that the moderators would tread especially if it descended into the morass of claims and counter claims about the individual. To some he was simply a well liked Gashead but to others the spawn of the devil. It may be that the moderator moved too quickly but these types of threads can go down hill quite fast. Do the moderators/admin have time to react to prevent either a legal breach or prevent something offensive being written. It is a very thin line.... I see that every thread about this issue has now turned into a current affairs type thread..... I think all of us need to take a step back, calm down and realise that actually to all of us the most important thing on a football forum should be the football team. And there is a wealth of things to occupy us there! Regards Cheshire Hi Cheshire Yes I agree with just about everything you say.
See you soon
Les. You are right, it looks like a couple of people are so determined to have their say that it doesn't matter if the CA section has been closed, they will continue to post anywhere, everywhere. Just ignore them, deny them the attention that they seem so desperate for and they will go elsewhere. With a bit of luck they are being reminded by admin that this is a football section? I suspect that admin themselves have learned from that thread that was deleted, I doubt that it would play out in the same way again if the thread were started today. I'm still far from convinced about the reasons for closing the CA section, I keep thinking about it and getting stuck at the point of thinking that someone who probably didn't even use it, but didn't like it, was chipping away at admin untill they gave up and closed it down. But whatever, it's done and dusted now. I'll miss the debates about the economy, Nu Labour Vs Real Labour Vs Tory Party, but I certainly won't miss every thread being bombarded with links relating to barmpot conspiracy theories and the rascism that one member seems to think is acceptable social comment. Guess we'll just have to concentrate instead on the performance of Rovers' board and on a manager who breaks down in tears and then lambasts his players for a lack of mental toughness

Very simple football-rule way to mod a CA section- Play the ball not the man. The second someone gets personal suspend them for two weeks. They do it again remove them from the forum. They'll soon learn. Very sensible proposal, if I may say so. The only fly in the ointment, so to speak, would be that everyone would have to be treated equally in order to make it work.

The caribbean community hate the Somalis with a passion are they racist for hating people with the same colour skin? You must be running out of race cards to play..
