You believed when nobody else did. You said we would do "A Bolton". You were mocked and ridiculed. You can have the last laugh, my friend You have my permission to wear your smug face.
Apologies for the long post, but WE HAVE JUST GOT PROMOTED!!!!!!!
Huge Congratulations To Joey B*****. I would 100% have sacked him in October. I was very public about this, and I stand by my comments. Huge credit to Wael for sticking with him. This promotion belongs to both owner and manager. For me, the manner of our promotion has completely erased the ineptitude of our relegation last season. JB's managerial career lay in shreds before Christmas. Thanks to Wael, he has an opportunity to continue up the football league and we have all been impressed with the squad he has assembled, they are full of Gas heroes. I am genuinely excited about our return to League One. I don't think we will simply make up the numbers. THE GAS ARE COMING. So, here we go then. On with the game. Premise: The Gas must win and hope that Northampton draw or lose. Failing that, we must overcome a -5 goal difference to claim the final automatic promotion place. Sounds like a script from Roy Of The Rovers. What a script it turned out to be... At kickoff, I was more excited than nervous and relieved to hear a rocking Mem, rather than a nervous Mem. I believed we could do this, that today was our day. Promotion day. We started the game at 100 miles per hour. A pace that continued throughout the game. Really good first half. After the own goal we settled into fast flowing, passing football. We had free reign to attack and is was beautiful to watch. The energy dropped midway through the half, and the news that Northampton went one up, then two up, then three up did not help. The surprisingly buoyant Scunthorpe fans took great joy in telling us. We certainly shut them up! Then the news that Barrow had scored. Like the Northampton "consolation" goal that changed the momentum back in that Playoff semi in 1998, a subtle shift was felt. Could this be our day? 2-0 was a good score at half time, but with Northampton winning 3-1 we will need to score five unanswered goals in the second half, unless Northampton collapsed (which they didn't). It is still game on, but we need some late, late drama. I wrote that sentence at half time, and was not disappointed... They so need to make a film of our season... I was thinking that At 2-0 we should 100% go for it, but the longer the game goes on we will need to think about the possibility of playoffs and rest players. Tricky gamble for JB. He went for it big-time! I remember saying that at the start of the second half, that we needed two quick goals. This happened. Then I thought that it was well and truly game on. The second half was a bit of a blur if I am honest. I have no idea who scored and cannot remember many of the goals. Today was all about the emotional roller coaster that is football. Evans scored another trademark free kick. A thing of beauty like so many of his goals. Collins scored a beauty, curled around the keeper. Beyond that, I'll have to watch the highlights This team attacked with the free flowing football that we have had the pleasure to witness a number of times this season. We attacked at will, and actually missed a number of excellent chances. Finley hitting the post, Collins missing from short range. Anderson curling wide. A remember another goal-bound Anderson rocket almost knocking a Scunthorpe defender out. We could have won 10-0. Or more! The goals kept coming and the second half had an air of destiny about it. The Gas kept coming and coming. Relentless. Inevitable, to quote The Matrix. Our many Mr Andersons would never give up. Poor Neo never stood a chance. Neither did poor Northampton. Just imagine the afternoon they had... As the 7th goal went in, I showed the live BBC League Two table to those around me. We were in third! Unbelievable. The faces looking back at me were a mixture of shock and disbelief. Pure emotion. It was a shame that the game got delayed following the completely unnecessary pitch invasion. That could have easily for us into trouble or the game abandoned. It also must have made it tricky for the players, who knew the Northampton result when they resumed play. We could so easily have conceded a sloppy late goal. 100% professionalism by the players. We were in an automatic Playoff position for only 10 minutes of the whole season. We got there when it counted. I remember saying months ago that the only table that matters is the final table. How true was that! I was publicly very despondent after the Forest Green game, I thought we had thrown away any chance of automatic promotion. Then last weekend's miracle happened followed by this weekend's miracle. The footballing Gods were certainly smiling on Bristol Rovers today, and with all the s**t that we have had to deal with, we bloody well deserved it! This season was a glorious roller coaster ride. I guess we should have known what was coming after that crazy Oxford FA Cup extra time back in November. A sign of things to come... A perfect, complete Bristol Rovers performance, dominating from start to finish with goals flowing. Probably the best game of football I have ever seen. It even topped Browner's right foot. Unbelievable. I love The Mem. I loved the promotion in 2016. I loved this promotion. The Old Girl has seen two pieces of Gas history. May it see many, many more. Up The Gas. We are going up, say we are going up. The happiest of happy days!

I managed to get into the ground whilst the ref had halted proceedings. Saw the last ten mins or so. Hadn’t been all season. So lucky to have witnessed the final moments of an incredible afternoon. Utmost respect to JB and his young team and congratulations to WaQ for taking a gamble and sticking by his manager. Just a shame the Screen Soccer boys were not present to film today’s game.

Yes, agree that the loss of screen soccer was a big mistake. I only wish the Gorringe (sp) could maybe ask them back but that is not going to happen. They would have made a great video from this.

Mr B***** delivered what he promised, and has instigated a great many improvements behind the scenes, which can only be good for the future of the club, and our ability to attract decent players.

Let's hope so. But what are these improvements behind the scenes you speak of? To name a few (yet again):- Appointed a much more professional medical team - much welcomed by the players Got the spec of the equipment in the gym upgraded - it's of more use to the players now Quality/content of food provided at the training ground - speaks for itself. Everything connected to the team is very highly organised, the club is operating in a professional manner now, rather than chaotic. Much improved training regimes delivered by JB and his assistants - I think we've all seen this come to fruition on the pitch. Quote from one of the players - "Without doubt the best culture, team spirit and working environment I have ever been a part of during my career. A pleasure to be involved with such a special group." Within a few weeks of JB arriving, players were saying that the feeling around the club was very different, lots of positivity. All the above should help us to attract quality players, whether they are permanent signings, or young loanees - Connolly, Taylor and Elliott have had very good experience during their time with us.

That will also have a positive impact when recruiting in the summer.

Absolutely - the experiences of Elliott, Taylor and Connolly should put us in good stead to be trusted with some decent young loanees too.

If we lose all three of our star loaners, it will be quite a task to replace them, especially players who will be able to perform at the same level in L1 as our current young stars did in L2 this past season.

Wael will hopefully give a good budget and we will have to do some fairly quick negotiating due to the season starting earlier, due to the World Cup. I really hope this is a true turning point and we can even push on in league 1, look how Luton have done. We should be able to do the same but the stadium is what would hold us back. We need that and so very much

Although JB did get some of then done early doors last time, so fingers crossed that he's been planning ahead and putting feelers out (or whatever they do). I had wondered why our season starts early, as I didn't think that the lower leagues were having a break during the World Cup? I may well be wrong on that though!
