Should have taken it on The Repair Shop (if it was being aired when they first got it repaired) and had it refurbished for free!
Anyone know where exactly it was at the Tote End? This article states: "...it was hung up above the Tote End at Eastville Stadium, Rovers' home ground from 1897 to 1986, alongside other clocks that toted up the odds in the greyhound races that the stadium also hosted until its demolition in 1997."
But I've looked at old photos I have and can't see it showing on any of the Tote End boards. I think there were 2 free-standing versions (one white, one black), before the roof was put up and the board displayed on the facia (before finally being covered by The Hofmeister advert). Wondering whether it was inside so people under the roof could see it. Or around the outside of the bar somewhere?
Plus 'alongside other clocks'? They weren't really clocks, surely?? Maybe best termed 'dials'? I want to say 'totalisers', but don't think they really could be described that way.
Plus 'toted up the odds'? Has that just been made up because it's the 'Tote End'? Should that be 'totted up'? Tote is the company name innit?
Would have been nice to explain how the clock was discovered. If it was up at Eastville until 1997, where was it living until it was repaired and installed at The Mem approximately 20 years later?

David Goldblatt (shares his affections between Tottenham Hotspur and Bristol Rovers) features quite a lot. Interviewed in the documentary as an author and historian.
I wonder whether David has continued following Rovers? Whether he may have stopped under the previous management team?

[ previously mentioned in the 'Rise & Rise of the Gas Girls' thread ] Went to see the film at Vue, Longwell Green last night. Very good. Enjoyed it and would recommend it to others (football fans in general, female sports fans and players). Seemed to be a lot of people there who I imagine are associated with women's football teams. Looks like the cinema run has been extended... I didn't mention this at the time. Now is a good opportunity. Looked back at my messages and on 22/11/2023 I received one to say that Rovers had asked if they can have Joe Taylor on loan. I don't know the exact date of Rovers enquiry, and was told 5 other teams had expressed at interest.
He scored 11 in 25 appearances, in the first half of the season, on loan at struggling League 2 Colchester. He switched to Lincoln on loan, in the January window, and currently has 8 in 12 games (didn't score in the first 5), scoring a hat-trick against us.

That's absolutely crazy! No way you could fit anywhere near 13 pitches on the site of The Quarters. A look at the plans, or google maps, or the aerial shot Swiss posted on page 1, shows that it would be a squeeze to get just 3 extra pitches on land not yet developed. To the east of the car park and clubhouse we could probably get the same as our current 2 pitches and goalkeeping area, that are now earmarked for housing, and maybe another full size pitch south of the gym. ... Unless we've also purchased land north of Horsham Lane, that Ed Ware had planned for a housing estate (ITB would know about that), google maps currently showing those fields are brown, rather than covered in grass. The original Rugby Club plans from 20+ years ago showed 6 full size rugby pitches and 2 half size which appeared to max out the area available. Taking away the two current football pitches for a housing development and allowing for the part lost where the reservoir has been constructed it would be a struggle to get more than two full size pitches plus an indoor pitch and a new multi purpose building on the remaining land. Might well need a bigger car-park as well, if the facilities are expanded, which will take up more space. Plus they can't use the entire footprint, as Hortham Brook flows around the edge of the site. There was talk of leaving part of the site as a nature area. I guess that will change if they want to ultilise as much as they can. Personally, one of the first things I would have done would have been to plant native trees around the perimeter. Arrange it with One Tree Per Child project (if South Glos do the same as BCC), or some similar scheme. Get local kids involved, or the Rovers Ability group, or Extra Time group. Would be nice landscaping while acting as a screen from the motorway and cut down on noise polution.

Thanks for this...We bought 2 tickets and will be there, we watched the Gas Girls way back over 20 years ago with Steff Curtis and the mostly Welsh girls. They played Arsenal and Fulham at the mem when they were the 2 big teams of the day, plus great hard fought games v city. Yes, I went to those 2 games (both FA Cup Semi-Finals, if I remember rightly), and although a couple of decades back I was impressed with the level of skill on show. Around 3,000 in attendance to those games, which was mighty impressive back then.

So how far off playing Chelsea and Manchester United in the Super league? Well going into Tier 4, and with the Super League being Tier 1, it would be 3 more promotions away. Scroll down to the 'Pyramid' section of this link: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_football_in_EnglandTier 4 = 4 divisons. Tier 3 = 2 divisions. Tier 2 = Championship. Tier 1 = Super League.

There is a quote that states we are currently using 5 acres out of 30. Another quote is 13 pitches to be added. That's absolutely crazy! 'Twas amusing listening to the interviews as we drove home on Saturday evening... Firstly a re-run of Hussain AlSaeed pre-match interview, where he talks about the plan to get the average age of the squad down. Then not long afterwards, in Matt Taylor's post-match interview, the plan is mentioned to him and his first reaction is "Who's told you that?" :-) Good for Taylor he then goes on to say you need a balance in the side. As most would agree, a mixture of youth and experience is the way to go. And the AlSaeed interview gives away the fact that George Friend will be the new Head of Recruitment, when it wasn't supposed to be announced until Monday. (Well, it's Monday today and haven't seen an official announcement!) www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0h9rsv523.20 = Re-run of part of Hussain AlSaeed pre-match interview. 37.00 = Start of Matt Taylor's post-match interview. 39.55 = Matt Taylor's reaction to the interviewer saying we've heard the likelihood is next season the average age of the squad will come down next season.

There were a couple of bits of commotion in the East Stand on Saturday - anyone know what they were all about?
1) Block A at half-time and there was some shouting at the top of the main block of seating, something like "Show some respect." several times. It appeared to be aimed at the raised row of seating behind, where I think the press, officials and some player's families sit. I think the target was a couple of the Burton backroom team, wearing their team outfits. Other Rovers fans around looked a bit embarrassed by it all.
2) Block B into the second half. Some shouting at the top of the main block of seating, before a lady got up and left.

Shocking defending.
First Burton goal we have 2 defenders close to their attacker, and both choose to run away from the man on the ball. The player should have been held up. The cross could have been prevented at source. Poor communication. Basics.
Second Burton goal a long ball from deep in their half, first challenge out-muscled, and we are then chasing shadows, always a man spare, not tracking runners.
People on the fickle facebook groups saying Taylor's style is hoof-ball. Well it ain't good, it ain't pretty, but hoof-ball it is not. They are trying to pass out from the back, some nice moves, but overall getting nowhere. And ironically proper hoof-ball worked for Burton!

Brown - ok he picks up an assist for Evans goal, but he fluffed 3 clear chances. First half an air-kick when the ball was squared to him; late second half put through on goal, dallies, and allows the defender to block the shot, then doesn't get a free header on target.
1 goal for us so far, a super curling effort, but not good enough.

Bit weird seeing these mock-ups of the new loanees in Rovers kit. Is this actually Harry Vaughan in action for Hull, with Rovers' colours painted over the top? Or Harry's head stuck on top of someone in action for Rovers, like Luke McCormick? Or his head stuck on some completely random AI created image? http://instagram.com/p/C20oTNCNAmn
