Is it self destruct or did they forget that with a September 10.30 start perhaps they could have put Yorkshire in having won the toss? Immaterial now, the batting not good enough for the umpteenth time over the oast few seasons. When you look around the country Gloucestershire and Glamorgan all out already. We’re in the month of September, get 400 or even 350+ you’ve a good chance of a win. A long way to go still but not a good start.

North Marine Road is definitely my happy place - the way cricket should be.
It's clear that the pitch was difficult and I suspect Yorkshire may have done this deliberately as they must have results to get a chance of getting into the Championship race. Everyone struggled apart from Harry Brook who looked every inch the prodigy he is being hailed as. A superb innings in the circumstances and I'd like to see him complete a deserved 100 tomorrow although Somerset will rue the late Davies drop that might have been their last real chance to get back into it. They need a clatter of wickets in the morning.
Hard to say what's wrong with Somerset. Lineup looks very strong on paper but apart from Azhar Ali no one looked remotely confident. Hildreth's innings was painful to watch. Full of flailing and mis**ts - he looks like a guy who is hopelessly out of form. Normally one of the most fluent players you can see. At least he battled though. The rest of the lineup had a rabbit in headlights quality - it looked like a collective lack of confidence really. Yorkshire bowled and fielded well (Somerset did not field well - they were poor in field particularly their ground fielding which would have been poor in club cricket) and they are developing an interesting core of young players. Somerset need a good morning session or I may not get the full 3 days I've come here for!

Glad you’re enjoying the occasion! In the Grand eh? I’ve been to Scarborough several times, not for cricket unfortunately, I stayed in the Crown Spa, high above you to the south, big white hotel and the Railway Hotel, by the station for cheap and cheerful. Sounds like it’s taken you a day to discover what we’ve know for a few years! Surprised at the fielding because we’re normally good and Abell keeps up a high intensity approach. Last few years one of the batsmen usually pull something out of the fire but not the last two matches. Banton? Anything straight and he will miss it, too many bowled and LBW though it was a catch yesterday. Can you hear “tractor”? Somerset supporter who goes everywhere and you’ll hear him as the day progresses. He’s very vocal in his support! He was sat in Gimblett Hill where I was sat last Tuesday and Wednesday and said he was going up. You’ll hear him, no doubt! Not a great start either!

We have seen India brush aside100 deficit and will go on to win with plenty to spare this evening. if it is a Somerset loss, huge dent in this seasons title challenge, but suddenly, no Overton and Gregory, it’s no surprise the back up bowling isn’t as strong?

47/6. It’s going to require Botham and Dilley
Okay. not Somerset, and not Essex or Surrey. So who do you think? Warwickshire? Notts?

He was sat in Gimblett Hill where I was sat last Tuesday and Wednesday and said he was going up. You’ll hear him, no doubt! Not a great start either! Of course I know Tractor - I've been going to Taunton on and off for nearly 30 years! I didn't know he'd relocated to Gimblett's Hill after his spot by the executive club was demolished in the rebuild. Aren't I right in saying that he's the son of famous children's author or is that just an urban (or rather Somerset!) myth? Didn't see or hear him today but I guess there hasn't been much for Somerset to shout about really.
What to say about today. The fact that Somerset lost in 2 days off the final ball of the day (possibly penultimate ball I haven't checked) kind of sums up their trip to the seaside. I cannot understand how a team that went into this game top of the championship played with such a lack of character or fight when they have everything to play for. Not just the batting but they didn't seem to be up for it this morning when they clearly desperately needed to be. Again they were bafflingly bad in field (catching was fine - it was the ground fielding that was awfui) something the Yorkshire faithful around me noted and seized on gleefully. Then the batting was just dreadfui. Lots of annoyed Somerset fans who'd been looking forward to at least 3 days watching the game here. The batting had no answer to Yorkshire today and there was much less excuse as conditions today were glorious.
If I was searching for a football cliche I'd say it was a team that had stopped playing for the manager yet this is side with everything to play for and all the motivation in the world. Deeply peculiar but they came 5th in a 2 horse race. Yorkshire looked very impressive - they have some key young pieces in what looks to be a very strong Championship side for the next few years.
I don't particularly recommend the Grand. I mean obviously the history etc means it has a bit of a thrill to it (everyone should have a beer on the terrace here because the view is amazing). But I only booked the room as it was the cheapest at short notice - it's actually a rather odd place. From previous (non-cricket) visits I reccomend the Palm Court.

Another seemingly tortuous day for Somerset against Lancashire 360 odd for 8 and looks like all that promise before the carnival cricket has just disappeared , may be a young side but can be deflating when you were a hot choice for the top prize this season, and if the 100 does really take on then possibly a physiological thing come into play here

Somerset in good position for a draw, considering no play tomorrow, but a good follow on they might even win and be right back in tight title race. Why isn’t Overton playing, there’s no Test cricket.

Since when was Luke Wells an all rounder. Gloucestershire match certainly a draw with the time lost, many of the other Div 1 games can go either way, Somerset still some work to do Wednesday for draw.

Both local counties are on the field, Somerset are on the brink of defeat today and Gloucestershire can probably achieve a draw from here but also, it's Gloucestershire...

All done at Taunton, seems like Hildreth has a flash of Richards in his brain but not in the technique!! just 2 balla in,a stubborn hit out to very late on to make Lancs bat again but rather futile really

Gloucestershire could achieve better than a draw here. Glamorgan 42/3, still 69 behind .
57/6 at close!

Well just got back after two and a half days of deja vu. At least we made a better attempt after the first innings disaster. Lammonby’s ton yesterday brightened up everyone and several other small cameos were a bit better after the last two matches.
At one point it looked like another innings defeat which would have made it three huge defeats in a row. It wasn’t by an innings just 10 wickets! Having seen every ball at Taunton I have to say that whoever wins the Championship will have won a competition with little integrity. Yesterday we saw several occasions when the umpires asked for a televised review on several run out attempts in Somerset’s second innings and on Sunday we had a review on a Lancashire wicket when Croft was out, caught on the boundary. Not Croft’s fault, he walked off before being recalled. Why? It was because we had Sky there the review system was in play. Yet elsewhere, other teams would not have had that facility available. So why use it in Taunton just because Sky cameras were there? Totally unfair on the teams in the other close matches, Yorkshire, Hampshire, Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire. No individual advantage to Somerset or Lancashire but just doesn’t sit right when it’s not available elsewhere.
The first over from Wells yesterday did us. Up to that point I thought we’d post a large total asking Lancashire to get around 150 perhaps which would have been difficult today and tomorrow. As it was MOM Wells changed the match with that over with two top wickets, Lammonby and Abell. He’s a good all rounder and played well for his ton, a top class innings.
Going to be a good week next week. With Hampshire going to Liverpool to play Lancashire I presume Sky will cover that match. Is Liverpool’s ground set up for TV coverage?

Good win. i think it’s important for Gloucestershire to finish in the top three in this “2nd Division”. They should be ok for Division 1 after their promotion in 2019 but if the ECB don’t revert to what it was in October 19 then Gloucestershire’s position may be at risk. Considering Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire were the bottom two and only one was going to be relegated to make it a 10/8 split at that time (Nottinghamshire) I would imagine the ECB would want both in a top division, being test ground counties. All up for grabs I think but Gloucestershire need to do all they can to protect their position and finishing in the top three is important, imo.
